Gurmit’s supremely elegant creations bring out the hidden, mathematical aspects of nature. It combines the Eastern aesthetic of her heritage with a modern Western sensibility, eroticism and wit. Gurmit’s jewellery rendered in an array of organic and often intricate forms are fluid and tactile. Her collection is as exotic and multifaceted as her own background. Gurmit designs pieces that play on our conventional understanding of jewellery; ‘A ring does not have to sit right on the finger and a necklace does not only have to be worn around the neck’ reassures artist jeweller Gurmit who is influenced by Zaha Hadid as well as other artists including Anish Kapoor, Richard Sera and Anthony Gomley. ‘It fascinates me to see how jewellery and art installations translate our process of being. Examines how our body's perceptions influence what is perceived by our mind.’ Perhaps this interest in defying boundaries is because Gurmit Campbell was born in a traditional and confined Punjabi family in libe ...

Profile: Zaha Hadid, founder of Zaha Hadid Architects, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize (considered to be the Nobel Prize of architecture) in 2004 and is internationally known for both her theoretical and academic work. Each of her dynamic and innovative projects builds on over thirty years of revolutionary exploration and research in the interrelated fields of urbanism, architecture and design. Hadid’s interest lies in the rigorous interface between architecture, landscape and geology as her practice integrates natural topography and human-made systems, leading to experimentation with cutting-edge technologies. Such a process often results in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms. Education: Hadid studied architecture at the Architectural Association from 1972 and was awarded the Diploma Prize in 1977. Teaching: She became a partner of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, taught at the AA with OMA collaborators Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis, and later led her own studio at the AA ...

The impressive design moves the boundaries of current yacht design, while at the same the project is shaped with a true sentiment of Zaha Hadid and her team of architects and designers. The design concept, launched at the latest exhibition of Zaha Hadid’s work at the David Gill Gallery in London, is based around the sculptural form of a master prototype conceived for a 128m yacht. In addition, the Unique Circle Yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss is a family of five individual 90m yachts that creatively explore the design philosophies of the master prototype within the technical requirements of a fully-engineered yacht design.

we had the "cows" and the German Shepherd dogs, here comes the "eggs". A 21st-century twist on traditional Easter festivities, the Big Egg Hunt is a citywide search for 2-foot-tall egg sculptures, decorated by notable artists and designers—Jeff Koons, Zaha Hadid and Ralph Lauren among them—and hidden throughout Manhattan. Egg hunters use a special smartphone app to check in whenever they spot an egg; after an egg has been spotted 10 times, its location is made public on an online map. On April 18, after the hunt has concluded, the eggs will be gathered for a public exhibition in Rockefeller Center, where they'll remain on view until heading off to their new homes on April 26 (they'll be auctioned off for charity on April 22). Politician tells Crystal Palace architects to 'speak to locals' from Building Design 28 February 2014 | By Elizabeth Hopkirk ‘Proposals are all style and no substance,’ says Val Shawcross London Assembly Member Val Shawcross has warned architects including Richard Rogers and Zaha Hadid to speak with local people if their plans for the £500 million reconstruction of Crystal Palace is to have any chance of being accepted. The pair’s firms are among six practices that were shortlisted earlier this week for the scheme in south London which is being masterminded by Chinese developer ZhongRong Group (ZRG). It has said it wants to rebuild Joseph Paxton’s Victorian structure, which burnt down in 1936, restore the surrounding park and put in place a “culture-led exhibition and employment space”. Fresh from the January issue of Vanity Fair, a review of our book: "Art and fashion have always gone hand in hand, but recent years have seen such a flurry of brilliant creative collaborations between the two worlds, it's hard to keep track of who's doing what. Even when artists and designers are not making beautiful music together, they're never entirely separate disciplines. Just look at Dutch label Viktor & Rolf and its sculptural approach to clothing, or artist Cindy Sherman's use of clothing as disguise in her conceptual self portraits. New book Art / Fashion in the 21st Century (Thames & Hudson) is stuffed with photography showcasing the most impressive art and fashion collaborations from the last decade, with work from fashion houses Balenciaga, Chanel and Prada, and artists Zaha Hadid, Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince, and a foreword by famous fashion muse and art lover Daphne Guinness."
Sapevate che . ''In the last two decades, Salerno became one of the most important cities in the world for great contemporary architecture. In fact, there are operas designed by architects as Zaha Hadid (maritime terminal), Ricardo Bofill (Liberty Square and Crescent), Santiago Calatrava (Marina d'Arechi Port Village), David Chipperfield (judiciary citadel), Massimiliano Fuksas and Renzo Piano. The municipal theatre called Giuseppe Verdi has one of the best lyrical programming of Italy and the city of Salerno is the first city in Italy, for its range of population, for the cycle of rubbish and recycle. The luminous and artistic installations of Christmas period, called Luci d'Artista and prepared with collaboration of Turin, are famous in all Europe. Zaha Hadid isn’t married and doesn’t have children. She lives alone in what visitors have described as a stark and impersonal flat down the road from her office. No doubt it works for her, though it sounds a little bleak. I ask when she’s going to design a house of her own and what it might look like, if money were no object and she could let her imagination run wild. Hadid responds with a harried smile and says that she’s too busy, there’s never the time, and who builds a house in central London anyway? She sits at the table, her coat pulled tight against the air-con; a workaholic who builds for others and yet never for herself. On balance, she says, she would rather make an office building because that would be more practical. “I’m hardly ever at my house,” she says. “I’m hardly ever at my home.” by :- Iam Architect

A review of 2 different buildings in Architecture Today 242: 1. SSE Hydro Arena, Glasgow "Completed by Fosters & Partners, Daring, edgy and gives the townsfolk a splash of colour. To find room for a huge venue with space management for vast numbers, who come some distance to attend, so near to a city centre is a major achievement." 2. Serpentine Sackler, London "This is Zaha Hadid's first permanent tensile structure. The Sackler was a lazy commission by the Serpentine Gallery, where Hadid is a long-standing trustee. Presumably the logic was that a signature building would attract popular attention. But it had greater obligations and a gallery should know better than to allow itself to be a passive recipient of genius. The extension doesn't work any idea hard enough and doesn't move the game on. It's a building that might have happened any time in the last 20 years of Zaha-dom."

Zaha Hadid's sport stadiums: 'Too big, too expensive, too much like a *** + London-based Iraqi architect under fire as pressure mounts for designs in Qatar and Japan to be scaled back Oliver Wainwright, theguardian.com - One looks like a futuristic bicycle helmet, stretched across its Tokyo site in an aerodynamic sweep. The other has been said to resemble a *** rising out of the Qatari desert in a great vulvic bulge. Both are in fact sinuous sporting stadiums by the London-based Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, who is facing calls for her exuberant designs to be scaled back. This week Japanese sports officials finally bowed to growing criticism that Hadid's scheme for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium was too big and too expensive, saying they would shrink the design by a quarter. The 80,000-seat venue, planned for the site of the current 48,000-seat national stadium, built in 1958, is described by Hadid as "light and cohesive", its structure forming a dynamic bridge that "creates an exciting new journey ...

"The most difficult thing about Architecture,i think its a terrible profession,i mean i am sorry to say this, its the most demanding of all professions, there is nothing more painful than being an architect,bt it is also the most exciting of all professions and its very fulfilling,it requires tremendous deligence, constant updating and upgrading of your own talents". ZAHA HADID

Finally a city like TOKYO is talking about context. I have always been torn on the designs of Zaha Hadid, I have loved a few, I have liked many more and I've been baffled by most of the projects her office has executed. This design is the winner in a competition for the Main stadium in the 2020 Olympics. While I like the overall fluidity and the HR Geiger aura its giving off I still think this kind of exuberance does not say TOKYO. We have to remember that this rendering and design was part of a number of hypotheticals: bids TO BE A candidate city, bid AS candidate City. And now its no longer a hypothetical, you have a city that is cramped, but efficient. Tokyo -and really most of JAPAN- is Modern but steeped in tradition. If I assumed that those were the criteria that used for the judging of the winning design, how did they end up selecting this? So good for the architects for speaking out. The last bid was lead by Tadao Ando. Come on! You guys can do better than this.
i think it's good...but yeah..maybe "too big" considering the price per meter square for construction in Japan. But...that's Zaha Hadid :)
