Jokes apart, Monsieur Arsene Wenger is just a terrible bad loser, always grumbling and complaining. This same Wenger benefited from the services of Yossi Benayoun when we loaned him to Arsenal but today Wenger is complaining of loan rules because he's about to face the unstoppable Romelu Lukaku. Arsenal fans and board should be embarrassed at the antics of Monsieur Wenger. Cry, cry baby.

Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun's praise for LFC and it's fans helped Daniel Sturridge join Liverpool FC.
Daniel Sturridge has revealed to the Daily Mail how former Liverpool striker Fernando Torres convinced him that moving to Anfield was the right choice. "[Torres] always spoke very highly about Liverpool," Sturridge told the Daily Mail. "When we were at Chelsea together he would say, 'Liverpool are amazing'. It wasn’t just him -- it was Yossi Benayoun as well. They both said, 'That club is the best I have played for’. "They said the fans will make you feel amazing and, at the time, I thought I need a bit of that in my life because I was low right then. "I need to feel good about myself, so it was an easy decision to come here. My dad [Michael], my uncle [Dean, the former Derby striker] and I all shared the same opinion: this was the best place to go. "When Liverpool came in, it was one of those situations that I just wanted to get up the M6 as quick as possible, sign on the dotted line and get to work. "I was desperate to get here and show what I could do. I was hungry and I am still hungry. There is s ...

André Villas-Boas: The Project (2011–12) On 22 June 2011, André Villas-Boas was appointed as the new Chelsea manager on a three-year contract, with immediate effect. On 14 August, Chelsea drew 0-0 their first match of the 2011–12 Premier League season away to Stoke City. Villas-Boas won his first match as Chelsea manager the following week after the Blues beat West Bromwich Albion 2– 1. On 22 August, Chelsea and Valencia agreed a deal for Spanish international winger Juan Mata, who signed for £23.5 million. The following week, another new signing arrived in the form of Mexican midfielder Ulises Dávila, who signed a five-year contract. On transfer deadline day, Raul Meireles joined the Blues from Liverpool, whilst Yossi Benayoun and Patrick van Aanholt departed on season-long loan deals to Arsenal and Wigan Athletic, respectively. Gaël Kakuta also joins Bolton Wanderers on loan until 1 January 2012. On 18 September: Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3–1 ...
(And yet another!) The mark of champions? Whisper it, but it just might be They're not going to do it the easy way, are they? Liverpool came from behind twice and edged past a gritty, skillful and well-drilled Fulham in the last minute with a typically cool Steven Gerrard finish from the penalty spot to win 3-2. Craven Cottage is one of my favourite places -- sometimes. On a sunny spring day or summer evening it is a sheer delight, but on a midweek winter night like this, dark and damp, it has thrown up some strange conundrums for the men in red. Something bizarre always happens there. There was an extraordinary game which first hinted that Rafa Benitez was special, coming from two down to win 4-2 despite being reduced to 10 men. There was a second-string defeat which the ex-Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has never forgiven Liverpool for, much to every Kopite's shame and pain (ahem). That magic April night when Yossi Benayoun won the league title for Liverpool -- or so it was thought. The visitors ...
Gerrard spearheading Liverpool momentum As Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard channeled his "inner Yossi Benayoun" with a dramatic last-gasp winner versus Fulham at Craven Cottage, even the most sceptical, pragmatic, disbelieving of Kopites must have thought -- even if just for the faintest of moments -- that "maybe, just maybe, this could be our year." Late Gerrard goals have led to silverware before, of course. Liverpool were in danger of being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage back in December 2004 until Neil Mellor's cushioned header was spectacularly lashed into the Kop net by Gerrard. The Reds famously went on to win the competition that season, but without that late goal from Gerrard against Olympiakos months earlier, it would not have been possible. The following season, Liverpool were trailing 3-2 to West Ham United in the FA Cup final at the Millennium Stadium. With almost the last kick of normal time, Gerrard struck an unerring half-volley into the bottom corner from 35 yard ...
Arsenal’s previous deadline day signings. Mesut Ozil [summer] Without doubt the biggest transfer in Arsenal history, Mesut’s deal was concluded on the in final minutes of the last deadline day. Andrei Arshavin [winter] His signing was so late in the transfer window it probably happened after it closed. Mikel Arteta [summer] Another late deal in the summer window, the Everton midfielder was signed on deadline day. Andre Santos [summer] Yeah. This one didn’t work out too well. Per Mertesacker [summer] Called a panic buy, it’s turned out to be pure genius. Yossi Benayoun [summer] It was only a loan but we loved him while he was with us. I also forgot all about him. Lassana Diarra [summer] He signed a long-term deal and left a few months later. Also, he looked like a dolphin. William Gallas [summer] The swap deal which took Ashley Cole in the other direction. Sad times. Julio Baptista [summer] Arsene finally landed the Beast with Jose Antonio Reyes going the other way. He beasted Liverpol, but that wa ...
On 21 August 2011, Valencia announced they had agreed a £23.5 million fee for the transfer of Mata to Premier League club Chelsea, subject to a medical. On 24 August 2011, Mata signed a five-year deal with Chelsea. He revealed that compatriot Fernando Torres helped persuade him to move to Stamford Bridge, saying "Fernando got me excited about the thought of coming here. He said it would be good for me here, and that me and him together could be good. I also talked to my family and friends about it as well." On 26 August 2011, Yossi Benayoun offered Mata his number 10 shirt. The Israeli captain said, "I decided to give Mata the number 10 — his favourite. For me, it's just a number, not my lucky 15." (Florent Malouda wore number 15 for Chelsea at the time.) Mata wore number 10 for Valencia and for Spain's under-21s in the summer, and expressed his gratitude to Benayoun. "It is a very important number to me so I'm pleased to be wearing it. I want to thank Yossi," he said. Mata follow ...
Watford 0-0 QPR No goals – but Rangers stopped the rot with a well-deserved point to dent Watford’s recent charge. But the worry for Harry Redknapp must be a score blank for the third game in a row. There’s only one Charlie Austin, as fans sing, and he along with stalwart Clint Hill, were missing while Niko Kranjcar was pressed into service as the lone striker. The Croatian displayed the neat touches that he hopes will get him in his country’s World Cup squad – but the manager needs to go shopping in the January transfer window. In fact, it looked there was a fair bit of online sales shopping during a pretty drab first half. Loads of new-looking electronic tablets were being tapped on laps in the hope of a game breaking out. Yossi Benayoun, from distance, skewed wide of the right on 20 minutes. Fortunately for Hoops, a dangerous cross from the right a little later bounced up in front of Troy Deeney - and he could only chest it harmlessly at Rob Green. Diego Fabbrini felt the full force of a perf ...
Watford 0 QPR 0 QPR played without a recognised striker for much of a turgid draw at Vicarage Road. With Charlie Austin out with a hamstring problem and Bobby Zamora joining Andy Johnson on the bench, Niko Kranjcar was given the unfamiliar role of lone forward. He made a decent fist of it, missing the target twice before firing inches wide after a nice Rangers move during an opening half-hour in which Harry Redknapp’s side had most of the possession. The visitors, with Yossi Benayoun making his first start, also went close early in the second half when Matt Phillips’ thunderous drive was pushed over by keeper Manuel Almunia. Diego Fabbrini missed Watford’s best chance, tamely side-footing straight at keeper Rob Green from 10 yards out. Perhaps Fabbrini was still feeling the effects of a superb, crunching tackle by Richard Dunne, who denied the Watford striker as he burst into the box in the first half. Johnson was sent on for the final 20 minutes but was unable to make an impact. QPR (4-5-1): Green, ...

Primarily a left-winger, he can also operate down the middle and outlined his desire to adapt quickly to English football. Yossi Benayoun's anticipated departure freed up his favoured number 10 jersey. He certainly looked at home on his debut, appearing as a substitute against Norwich City and slotting home the final goal in a 3-1 win in late August. That positive performance was consistently replicated throughout his first season in English football, with 11 goals notched by the end of March, including a crucial away goal in Naples, a winning penalty against QPR in the FA Cup and a stunning volley against Manchester United in early February. (Deb) Yossi Benayoun will play no part in tomorrow’s QPR’s clash with Blackpool. The new midfielder lacks match fitness and stays behind at the training ground as he eases closer to first-team selection. The former Chelsea player also missed out on a reserve match against Bournemouth on Tuesday while his work permit was sorted, and needs more time to make his debut, according to his boss. Harry Redknapp said: “Yossi’s not going to play this week, but train all weekend instead.” Defender Nedum Onuoha is fully fit, but Harry hinted the form of central defenders Richard Dunne and Clint Hill will keep the ex-Manchester City man on the bench. Otherwise, only the long-term injured that is Bobby Zamora and Ali Faurlin are missing for the trip to the seaside.

An interesting read. Reality checks, top 4 hopes & the man (team) in the mirror Marco Lopes ponders the Arsenal aftermath – and suggests that while there are lessons to learn, there’s plenty still to play for. Ah, human nature. Who can blame Liverpool fans a bit of confidence, hope and optimism? Yet, in the space of 7 days, the throwbacks to dramatic Yossi Benayoun game-winners and heroic displays on Old Trafford’s turf have come crashing down to earth. Predictions of a win at the Emirates which were layered off the hopes created from the resounding win over the Baggies have rudely wandered off like luck deserting hopeful gamblers in a casino. Many of us were hopeful; some were realistic, and some are downright shocked that Arsenal were that much better than Liverpool on Saturday night. And so come the inevitable anecdotes of reflection, unwelcome but impossible to ignore. Reality check time. Overconfidence challenged. We’ve been brought down to earth, as they say. Kind of like that moment in ...

Farewell to four Blues Chelsea said goodbye to four players this week when the contracts of Paulo Ferreira, Florent Malouda, Ross Turnbull and Yossi Benayoun expired. Popular veteran Ferreira spent nine years with the Blues, after joining the club as a European champion from Porto in 2004. More silverware soon followed for the Portuguese full-back, winning the first of his three Premier League titles in his debut season. Malouda also claimed his fair share of medals during six years at Stamford Bridge, with his finest campaign arguably coming in 2009/10, when he helped us win our first domestic Double and was voted as Chelsea Players' Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Turnbull spent most of his time as Petr Cech's deputy, playing 19 games and being named on the bench for our successful Champions League and Europa League finals. Israeli international Benayoun's three years as a Blue were hindered by injury, but he returned from loan to make several appearances in the second half of last season. Marko Marin, T ...
Paulo Ferreira, Yossi Benayoun, Florent Malouda and Ross Turnbull have been released by Chelsea after their contracts expired, the club have confirmed. Ferreira made 217 appearances in nine years with the Blues, playing a role in three Premier League title wins and the Champions League triumph of 2012. Benayoun arrived in the summer of 2010 as the replacement for Joe Cole but failed to command a regular place in the side, suffering with injuries and spending time on loan with Arsenal and West Ham. Malouda was lured from then-French champions Lyon in 2007 and won domestic and European honours at Stamford Bridge, but spent last season in exile training with the reserves. Turnbull was signed from Middlesbrough in 2009 as a backup goalkeeper to Petr Cech, and made just 19 appearances in four years in west London.

Just looking at some of his signings at Real Madrid gives you an idea as to how Mourinho likes to operate as a manager. Fabio Coentrao, Michael Essien, Sami Khedira, Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil all joined the Portuguese genius at the Bernabeu and all fit the typical workhorse, energetic style of player he likes. And after being officially announced as Chelsea's new manager for the second time, there's no doubt that the 50-year-old needs to address the changes at Stamford Bridge. Florent Malouda, Yossi Benayoun, Ross Turnbull, Paulo Ferreira and Hilario have all left the club following the expiration of their contracts, but it se ...

Chelsea release eight players Chelsea news: Jose Mourinho has released eight players from his Blues squad Malouda rarely featured this season for Chelsea Chelsea have confirmed eight players have been released from their squad. Amongst the list are Henrique Hilario, Ross Turnbull, Paulo Ferreira, Florent Malouda and Yossi Benayoun. Also leaving are young trio Amin Affane, Archange Nkumu and Aziz Deen-Conteh, after failing to meet the required standards at youth and reserve level. Malouda has been cast out of the Chelsea team all year and forced to play with the reserves, so his release comes as no surprise to the player or the fans. Despite his decline in the last few seasons, the Frenchmen should still be remembered for his fantastic 2009/10 season that ended with Chelsea's first Premier League in four years. Paulo Ferreira is a fan favourite for his commitment to the club despite not seeing much playing time on the field. rance winger Malouda, 32, was frozen out of the first-team picture after featuring in last season’s Champions League final win over Bayern Munich, electing to bide his time instead of taking a pay cut to move to his homeland or Brazil, where he has roots and had been reportedly interested in playing. The former Lyon man, who sold him to Chelsea for £13 million in 2007, is now expected to return to France, although he is unlikely to command the £80,000 per week he earned at Stamford Bridge. His Chelsea team-mates Yossi Benayoun and Paulo Ferreira were also released, while another ex Chelsea defender William Gallas was not given a contract extension by Tottenham Hotspur. Gallas joined Spurs from North London rivals Arsenal in 2010, and is joined on the free agents list by one-time England winger David Bentley, who struggled to break into the Tottenham team and spent time on loan at FK Rostov in Russia and former club Blackburn Rovers.
