SATURDAY'S TRANSFER GOSSIP COLUMN Arsenal are leading the chase for former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, 28, who has struggled to make an impact since moving to Paris Saint-Germain. West Ham and Swansea are monitoring the progress of Barcelona's 19-year-old Spanish starlet Munir El Haddadi. Manchester United will abandon a move for on-loan striker Radamel Falcao, 28, and instead go for former Monaco team-mate Edinson Cavani, 27. Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert fears Fabian Delph could leave Villa Park in January as the 25-year-old England midfielder is yet to sign a new deal. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech could be heading to AC Milan for £7m after Arsenal hinted they were not going to pursue their interest in the 32-year-old in January . Real Madrid say £64m will be enough to prise Isco away from the Bernabeu, prompting interest in the 22-year-old from Arsenal and Liverpool. Manchester United are ready to buy PSG duo Yohan Cabaye and Edison Cavani in January.
I think we need make 2-3 marquee signings that would make an impact straight away. I'd say we should sign Jackson Martinez (£30mil), Marco Reus (£40mil) or Gonzalo Higuain (£35mil) so solve our striker issue and Xherdan Shaqiri (£18mil) so get some goals from midfield. I'd also try sign Yohan Cabaye (£15mil) to add more quality to our midfield. To add to those marquee signings, I'd make an £8mil bid for Dani Alves and sell Johnson as well as a £6mil bid for goalkeeper Neto to give Mignolet competition. -T7N-

Paris Saint-Germain star Yohan Cabaye’s message to Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye congratulates his French compatriot Mathieu Debuchy for his move from Newcastle United to Arsenal. Mathieu Debuchy made the switch from Newcastle United to Arsenal on Thursday, signing ‘a long-term contract’ for a transfer fee that is reported to be £12 million. A number of the Gunners star including Theo Walcott have already welcomed the defender to the Emirates Stadium, and one of his former club teammates has also hailed his move to the North London outfit. Yohan Cabaye knows the 28 year old right back very well, having played with him first at Lille and then at Newcastle. Both players are also part of the France national set-up and featured at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Interestingly, Cabaye could have joined Arsenal himself last summer had everything gone according to plan. Arsenal were on the hunt for a creative midfielder and had targeted 28-year-old Cabaye. Yohan Cabaye sold me on says new signing Remy Cabella.
Rémy Cabella says Former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye sold him on a move to St James’s Park!
Joachim Low, Germany coach I think both teams played well defensively today. There weren’t many goalscoring opportunities, which was part of our plan. We didn’t want to give France chances with the quality of strikers they possess. We closed them down well – and that was the key. They did the same against us, because Yohan Cabaye and Paul Pogba are a great screen for the defence and we knew that we had to go wide in order to create chances, which is why I switched Philipp Lahm to the full-back position. France gave everything to try to force the equaliser, but Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng were excellent and Manuel Neuer did well when called upon. In the last four World Cups we've reached the semi-finals. That is a good achievement. We now need to take the next step.

FIFA World Cup 2014: Nigeria vs France Nigeria take on France in the round-of-16 tie of the 2014 Fifa World Cup at the Estadio Nacional de Brasilia, Brasilia, today at 5pm. France coach Didier Deschamps welcomes back midfielder Yohan Cabaye from suspension. Mathieu Valbuena could also return to the starting line-up but defender Mamadou Sakho is doubtful due to a thigh injury. Meanwhile, Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has some injury problems of his own after the narrow 3-2 loss to Argentina in his side’s final group fixture. Midfielder Michael Babatunde sustained a freak arm injury in that game and is unlikely to return to full fitness before the end of the tournament. Additionally, there are still doubts over the fitness of Victor Moses, who has made just one appearance so far due to a muscular problem. Moses could take Babatunde’s place in the starting XI, but Michael Uchebo remains an option as well after coming off the bench against Argentina. Up front, Keshi is likely to put his faith in Peter Odemw ...

Nigeria's Emmanuel Emenike had a first-half goal ruled out for offside before Vincent Enyeama saved Pogba's volley. Victor Moses cleared Karim Benzema's shot off the line after the break and Yohan Cabaye volleyed against the bar. Pogba headed home after Enyeama's misjudgement before Yobo diverted Mathieu Valbuena's cross into the net. France will play the winners of Monday night's match between Algeria and Germany in the quarter-finals.

Sakho involved in fine France victory Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho completed 65 minutes as France surged to a second World Cup victory, comprehensively beating Switzerland 5-2 in Salvador. Didier Deschamps' charges followed up their opening win over Honduras with another three points to take total control of proceedings in Group E. Having picked up a slight knock, Sakho was withdrawn midway through the second period. Olivier Giroud put France in front with a towering header on 17 minutes, rising highest to meet an outswinging corner and redirect into the opposite top corner with aplomb. The action had barely resumed before it was 2-0. Straight from kick-off, Les Bleus burst forward and Karim Benzema set up Blaise Matuidi in the left channel to rifle home at the near post. Real Madrid striker Benzema won a penalty shortly after the half-hour but watched his blast saved by Diego Benaglio and Yohan Cabaye somehow sent the rebound crashing onto the woodwork. Cashley: The Newcastle owner is hardly strapped for cash despite doubts over him spending it Newcastle face a race against time to spend a £60million bonanza - or face the wrath of fans for making massive profits. Mike Ashley will have made the Geordies one of the most profitable clubs in the world when their financial year ends on June 30, unless some significant transfer business can be done this month. Newcastle have a fortune in surplus cash, unlike many Premier League clubs who are running at a loss. After making a £9m profit up to June 2013, the Geordies, sponsored by pay-day lenders Wonga, have seen their TV income rocket by £33m for last season, and they sold Yohan Cabaye in January for £19m. Their wage bill has remains static, if not lower, and their only permanent signing for the first team has been Jack Colback on a free transfer./mrtoon

As I was just asked about Newcastle Uniteds current situation, I thought I'd share my thoughts on this. Alan Pardew;- I think with the right players he is a more than capable manager. He proved that in 2011/2012 finishing 5th. I think Newcastle, given the troubles at the club at through moment could be worse off without Alan Pardew. Players they need to sign;- Its been evident since January how big Yohan Cabaye was to them. I think they need an experienced midfielder who can encore the middle of the park. Someone like Michael Essien would be great I think. Surely will cost next to nothing, and will provide great stabilty. I also think they need a playmaker, who is consistent and somewhat proven in the premierleague. They need instant success so taking someone from abroad could be a risk. A playmaker in England, who is cheap and reliable;- Jonjo Shelvey maybe? Or Michu? Someone who appears to be able to play with anyone. Finally, I think a striker would be key to Newcastle maintaining some sort of success. ...
Arsene Wenger is poised to finally sign a new deal at Arsenal and will celebrate it with a £70m spending spree that could include a move for Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic. COMMENT By Harry Slavin at St James' Park It appears David Moyes may finally have found the answer to one of the most pertinent questions of his short reign at Manchester United – what to do with Juan Mata. Playing from a central position the Spaniard scored twice and set up another in a 4-0 rout of Newcastle at St James’ Park, and the case for him to take up the role on a full-time basis has never been stronger. The Spaniard has failed to shine in the first couple of months since his £37m move from Chelsea in January and looked uncomfortable as he was forced to take up wide roles as Moyes tried to get the best out of the Wayne Rooney- Robin van Persie partnership. In the absence of the pair against Newcastle, however, Mata was allowed to move infield and United reaped the rewards of his best display in a red jersey. He opened the scoring with a sumptuous free kick just before the break and doubled his tally in the second period when he arrived late in the box to pick up Javier Hernandez’s cut back ...

Chelsea have been linked with a move for PSG star Adrien Rabot, according to the TalkSportwebsite. With 13 starts in Ligue 1 this season, Rabiot is apparently unhappy at being so far down the pecking order in the French capital and has been linked with a £3m transfer away. After midfielder Yohan Cabaye was added in January, Chelsea are said to be keen to offer him the first team action he craves.

RANT Following today’s defeat at home to Manchester United, Newcastle have now lost seven of their last ten games. Beyond the ugliness of that sequence, the real worry has been how many times Alan Pardew’s side have not just been beaten but how often they’ve been out-matched in every department of a game. Newcastle aren’t just known for losing at the moment, they’ve become synonymous with an almost scandalous lack of desire. The three-nil losses to Sunderland and Everton, and the four-nil defeats to United, Southampton, and Tottenham were all characterised not by technical inferiority but an unwillingness play with any sort of pride or application. Newcastle under Pardew have become an abomination. There are background issues at St James’ Park, and neither Mike Ashley’s ownership or Joe Kinnear’s stint as Director of Football have been particularly helpful, but Newcastle’s current troubles are all rooted in the dressing-room. Yes, the failure to replace Yohan Cabaye has been extremely de ...

Watching Ben arfa is so frustrating, we all know what he can do he is strolling around not giving a dam. Haidara is good but his crosses are shocking mind. Watching us in the first half to the way there playing in the second half is just baffling. I can not see our next win coming at this rate, we have sold Yohan Cabaye and went right down hill. 0-3 8 mins to go.
having Yohan Cabaye seems a long time ago.
Newcastle United VRS Man United. The last time Newcastle won by a Yohan Cabaye goal. Are we going to suffer the same faith or is it going to be a revenge time for Man U. Only time will tell. 90 minutes will tell.
NEWCASTLE LATEST 9/1 Newcastle are 9/1 with Paddy Power to score first but lose to Man Utd Bastian Schweinsteiger's clinical finish nine minutes later ensured the Bavarian giants secured a 1-1 draw, but a spirited display from United - who had been widely tipped to be beaten comfortably - gave manager David Moyes heart. Moyes vowed to go "toe-to-toe" with the Bundesliga champions in the second leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday, but he must first turn his attention to Saturday's Premier League trip to St James' Park. United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Alan Pardew's side at Old Trafford back in December to pile more pressure on Moyes, after his former club Everton had consigned them to another home loss three days earlier. But the Premier League champions will be up against a very different Newcastle side to the one that gave the north-east club their first win at United since 1972. Match-winner Yohan Cabaye moved on to Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, while Pardew this week bemo ...

NEWCASTLE v Manchester United (Kick-Off 3:00 UK & Nigeria) Newcastle's injury woes continue, with Moussa Sissoko joining their lengthy list of absentees with a thigh strain. He joins the likes of Tim Krul, Mathieu Debuchy and Loic Remy on the sidelines. Manchester United duo Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are back in training and available to play but Wayne Rooney is out with an injured toe while fellow striker Robin van Persie remains out. Rafael and Ryan Giggs are doubts, but Alex Buttner is fit, while Juan Mata and Patrice Evra return. MATCH PREVIEW It's unusual for this fixture, at this stage of the season, not to be one of importance towards the top of the Premier League. However, make no mistake, it's hugely significant for both of these clubs in their current predicament. In Manchester United's rollercoaster season of transition there have been small signs of hope and recovery at times, only to then be followed by another negative result. Paul Merson's prediction: I'm sure Man United will rest everybody. They are in with a chance of getting to a Champions League semi-final, so what's the point of going to Newcastle and playing the first team? They can't win the league or get in the top four, so I think they'll play as many reserve players as they can. I'd expect to see Javier Hernandez, Nani nd Ashley Young in the team and I'd be shocked if any of the big boys play with their season on the line in Munich on Wednesday. Newcastle aren't doing great, though, so I'm not sure they can take advantage. They won at Old Trafford, but Yohan Cabaye ain't there anymore... PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 -anthony
José Mourinho: 'PSG can have Oscar and Eden Hazard… for £300m' José Mourinho has responded to speculation in France that Paris St Germain want to sign Chelsea forwards Eden Hazard and Oscar by claiming they could sell – but only for £300m. Former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye this week expressed his hope to be reunited with his former Lille team-mate Hazard, while Lucas Moura thinks PSG should move for his Brazil team-mate Oscar. In an era of UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations, PSG should not be able to consider signing the playmaking pair, according to Mourinho, who believes the astronomical spending of the likes of Manchester City, PSG, Monaco and others should be scrutinised by the footballing authorities. However, if FFP is not applied to PSG, Mourinho suggested the pair could be sold - at a price. Mourinho said: "No. It's not irritating. No problem. "If there is Financial Fair Play, they don't have money to buy them. "If there is no Financial Fair Play and they threw something crazy, ...

Cabaye Not Getting Much Playing Time At PSG!! There is a report in L’Equipe tonight, about how little playing time Yohan Cabaye is getting at PSG, since his £20M signing from Newcastle United last month. PSG hae played six games since Yohan arrived in Paris and he has stated only one game against Valenciennes and has a total of 180 minutes of time on the pitch, which averages out at 30 minutes a game. But when you join a new club, especially a big one, you don’t expect to go straight into the starting line-up, and it takes time to settle in. But the worry for Cabaye is that PSG have Italian Internationals Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti, and French star Blaise Matuidi, a Former Newcastle United target as his current midfield competition. And there’s also 18 year-old French U21 International Adrien Rabiot, who is coming through like a steam train this season at the French club. The L’Equipe article surmises that it may be difficult for Cabaye to be a starter at the upcoming World Cup for France in ...

Newcastle say 'player trading' helped increase profits to £9.9m Newcastle said "player trading" was one reason for a 600% increase in profits after tax in the year to June 2013. The club says it made £9.9m profits after tax that year, up from £1.4m in 2011/12. It says £28.7m spent on six senior players in 2012-13 was countered by profits from selling the likes of Leon Best, Fraser Forster and Demba Ba. It added it had made "positive progress in line with Uefa's stringent financial fair play regulations". Some supporters have criticised the club's failure to make any permanent senior signings since June 2013. Strikers Luuk de Jong and Loic Remy on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and QPR respectively, have been the only additions to manager Alan Pardew's first-team squad in that time, with France international Yohan Cabaye sold to Paris St-Germain for £19m in January. Newcastle United vs Aston Villa : Match Preview, Lineups and Prediction on February 23, 2014 Newcastle United vs Aston Villa 23 Feb., 1330 GMT Venue: St. James’ Park Ninth placed Newcastle United host Aston Villa who are currently placed at the twelfth spot at the St. James’ Park on Sunday. Following the transfer of mid-fielder Yohan Cabaye to PSG, Newcastle United have failed to win a single match – losing all three last matches and when they host Aston Villa on Sunday, they will be in the quest to turn their fortunes around. Similarly, the Villians too haven’t had an impressive form as they have registered only a win in their last six games ( 1 W, 3 L, 2 D). However, Aston Villa who impress in the away games more often, won’t leave a single chance to bag all the three points against the out-of-form hosts. For the Toons, Loic Remy returns from suspension and this will certainly be a huge boost for Alan Pardew as they have failed to score in the past four matches. Similarly, Cheick Tiote and Co ...

Norwich v Tottenham (3.30pm, Sun, Sky Sports 1) The fact Tim Sherwood left so many players out of his Europa League squad shows that he knows they have a real chance of getting in the top four. They've been on a roll and are only three points behind Liverpool and six behind Arsenal, so it's opened up for them. Nobody has mentioned them really but I think any of the current top five can still win the title. If any of the top five can put seven wins in a row together then they will win the league - and that includes Spurs. It will be an amazing achievement if they can do that because it really should be between Man City and Chelsea when you look at the squads. MB PREDICTS: 1-2 Newcastle v Aston Villa (12.30pm, Sun, Sky Sports 1 ) Newcastle need to be careful that their season doesn't fizzle out and their fans don't get dis-heartened. Not long ago they were right up there and a couple of wins could have seen them break into the top six - but then they sold Yohan Cabaye and now they can't win a game for toffe ...
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice as Paris St-Germain took a huge step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing last-16 first-leg win over 10-man Bayer Leverkusen. Blaise Matuidi slid the ball under goalkeeper Bernd Leno to give the visitors a third-minute lead. Ibrahimovic then scored a penalty and fired into the top corner from 20 yards within three first-half minutes. Yohan Cabaye sidefooted into the top corner after Emir Spahic saw red. Ibrahimovic's two goals see him move ahead of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo to become the tournament's top scorer this season, with a personal best 10 Champions League goals. Before Tuesday, the Sweden striker had appeared in 30 matches in the Champions League knockout stages but only scored five goals, and he has yet to win the competition despite spells with Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Ajax. Here he was a crucial presence, however, and even without their injured £55m striker Edinson Cavani, PSG sent out a warning to the rest o ...
::: SOCCER NEWS::: Gerardo Martino insists Barcelona will not relax after their 2-0 UEFA Champions League victory at Manchester City on Tuesday. Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the spot shortly after half-time of the first leg of the last-16 tie after Martin Demichelis was sent off for bringing him down just inside the penalty area. Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc praised his side's mentality after their 4-0 UEFA Champions League demolition of Bayer Leverkusen. Blanc's team eased to an emphatic win in the first leg of their last-16 clash in Germany on Tuesday, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring a double after Blaise Matuidi's early opener, before Yohan Cabaye capped off a fine performance with his first goal since joining from Newcastle United last month. Pep Guardiola believes that it would be "impossible" to face Bayern Munich's clash against Arsenal without Philipp Lahm in his squad. UCL: Barcelona down Man City, PSG hammer Leverkusen Two goals courtesy of Lionel Messi and Dani Alves were all Bracelona needed to emerge victorious at the Etihad stadium against a Manchester City team that was reduced to ten men. In Germany, two goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and a goal each from Blaise Matuidi and Yohan Cabaye ensured Paris Saint German humbles Bayer Levrkusen at the Bay Arena. It was a brave effort from ten-man Manchester City but in the end, the numerical difference told and Barcelona took full advantage. A Lionel Messi penalty after the No10 had been brought down by Martín Demichelis and a sublime team goal finished by Daniel Alves has given City a lot to do in the second leg. For PSG, it was a perfect away performance as they overcame Leverkusen by four goals to nil. Blaise Matuidi started things early on and after two Zlatan Ibrahimović strikes; Yohan Cabaye’s first goal for the club put the game to bed. Chelsea's interest in Rooney has been dealt a blow as he chose to extend his contract with the Red Devils in a deal worth £30/wk. Mou continues his war of words with Wenger by saying he didnt respect his achievements at the emirates since he has been in-charge. Newcastle coach Alan Pardew under pressure to deliver as the club continues to struggle after the departure of Yohan Cabaye.
Reports in France say Newcastle received £20m for Yohan Cabaye but are due another £3.23m in bonuses over the next 18 months.
Alan Pardew issued his players with an angry warning that the season is far from over following the abject 4-0 home defeat against Tottenham last night. Pardew’s odds to be sacked were slashed last night to 10/1 with Chris Hughton and Rene Meulensteen ahead of him. And after the painful loss to Spurs, when asked about whether his players were listening to him, he snapped: “They had better get the message because they are going to get it loud and clear this week.” Pardew has also demanded that his players arrived at training at 9.45am this morning. They haven’t won or scored since Yohan Cabaye was sold or tasted that winning feeling since a sunshine break in the UAE. However, Pardew’s tan is fading fast from that trip. He said: “We are in at 9.45am tomorrow.” That was Pardew’s 150th game as Toon boss last night. His win ratio has dropped down to 38% after last night’s defeat by Spurs. He said: “I don’t to stand there in my 150th game and watch a performance like that. “I don’t car ...

Mike Ashley faces a financial backlash from disengaged Magpie fans as dozens of supporters turn in their season tickets in protest. A disastrous derby day defeat, the sale of Yohan Cabaye and the departure of director of football Joe Kinnear has sparked an angry reaction from Tyneside supporters. And now scores of fans have contacted the Chronicle to say they are terminating their affiliation with the club as they vent their frustration. Today, Graeme Cansdale, who is a member of the Mike Ashley Out campaign and helped organise a protest march last year, said the group had been inundated with people pledging to hand back their season tickets. He said: “Fans now need to speak up for themselves, now is the time to do something about the club’s failures. “The team is safe and is not going to be relegated and the fans cannot be blamed for creating a poisonous atmosphere. It needs calm heads and channelling that anger.” He added: “I respect people’s rights to go to the game, but ultimately the only ...

“There will be a couple of changes in the summer that will be significant, and we need to make sure that we come out of it very very strong.” This is a quote from Alan Pardew in his pre-derby press conference, which has prettymuch gone under the radar. The gaffer was discussing the loss of Yohan Cabaye and how the team must recover. The question is – what “significant changes” is Pardew talking about? Is he referring to some of the new signings the club is targeting to replace Cabaye in the summer (which may see a change in the style of play)? Is it about Joe Kinnear and re-assessing the club’s recruitment policy, which then begs the question whether the plan initially was to look at Kinnear’s position in the summer? Is it something to do with Ashley and his plans for the Toon? The quote also tells me that Pardew has been given an assurance that he’s here for the long-term, much to the frustration of those who have been calling for his head in a season where we’ve beaten Chelsea and Manc ...

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew refused to answer questions on the controversial sale of Yohan Cabaye, after NUFC's defeat to Sunderland
Pardew's golden chance Newcastle manager Alan Pardew feared he would not get to the end of January with Yohan Cabaye still among his ranks, and so it proved, with the 19 million pound deal that took the France midfielder to Paris Saint-Germain representing good business for a 28-year-old midfielder who made it clear he wanted to leave Tyneside. Replacing Cabaye is a task that now falls to Pardew, with his belief that the players he has in his ranks can plug the void left by the star of his midfield set to be put to the test in the most fevered atmosphere imaginable. Sunderland come to St James’ Park on Saturday, and you need to spend a few days in the sporting goldfish bowl that is the North East to appreciate just what this fixture means to a region that will come to a standstill for the biannual domestic dustup. From the Mag Explain To Me Again How This Yohan Cabaye Transfer Is Good Business? 3 mins ago by Mark Jensen I keep reading elsewhere about how this Yohan Cabaye transfer is ‘good business’ but can’t quite get the hang of it. I suppose the question should be, good business for who? For PSG maybe, getting a Champions League class player on the cheap (in my opinion), plus he can even play in the remaining rounds of this season’s CL competition. MikeAshley8For the player himself, can’t really disagree there. Cabaye is going to an ambitious club, getting paid more money and no longer has to put up with the amateur running of our club and likes of Joe Kinnear. As for Ashley himself, well maybe he thinks he got more for Yohan now than he would have got in the summer but that can only be down to a bad business strategy, as in today’s market Cabaye is easily worth more than the £19m or so Newcastle will get, for a player in his prime. Put it this way, would you have swapped Cabaye for Mata? Thought n ...

United manager Alan Pardew casts doubt over the future of Yohan Cabaye by admitting he is "not confident" the Frenchman will be at the club when the transfer window closes on Friday. Yohan Cabaye to PSG is almost done & will affect the futures of Remy Cabella & Blaise Matuidi
Yohan Cabaye transfer highlights lure of the superpower The news that Yohan Cabaye will be returning to France with Paris St Germain has come as a bitter blow to Newcastle United and everybody around the club. Particularly stinging is that they were helpless to stand in his way. Hopping from the challenge of securing European football to that of winning a league title, there was never going to be any chance of keeping him once the superpowers came calling. Not for the last time will a club as passionate and popular as Newcastle lose a prodigal son to the elite of world football. The pangs of sympathy at losing such a marvel like Cabaye will not help the club grieve for the talent that will now need replacing with just days of the transfer window remaining. The simple fact remains that once the big guns come calling, that’s it. In the modern era, the lure of the footballing superpower is at an all-time high.
