Novak Djokovic continued his bid for a first Roland Garros title, which would complete his set of all four Grand Slam championship titles. The second seed improved to 22-0 in sets against Jeremy Chardy, when he beat the Frenchman for the ninth straight time 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon for a place in the third round. “I managed to play some good tennis and [I am] already feeling like I'm improving my game as the tournament progresses,” said Djokovic. “I managed to make him play an extra shot. I managed to stay solid from the baseline and I think that forced him to make a lot of unforced errors, which definitely helped me to win in straight sets." Djokovic has a 33-match winning streak against French opponents dating back to November 2010 at the BNP Paribas Masters (l. to Llodra). Djokovic will next play No. 25 seed Marin Cilic, a winner of two ATP World Tour titles this year, who fired 49 winners - including 19 aces - past Tobias Kamke in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win mid-afternoon. “I'm going ...
2014 Roland Garros Preview The 2014 European clay court seasons has been one of the most surprising that the world of tennis has seen in quite some time. For one thing, world # 1 Rafa Nadal failed to win a single tournament in April and thus far he has won just one title in Europe thus far this year. What’s even more surprising is that world # 2 Novak Djokovic didn’t win anything in April either, and neither man made into a final that month. Although both Nadal and Novak claimed Masters titles in May, neither of the top two guys look as indestructible as they did last year, or for that matter, any season in recent memory. Before reaching the Final in Rome, Nadal went through three straight three-set matches and Djokovic nearly lost in the Semi-Final against Canada’s Milos Raonic. The standard of play the top two players have set is so high that both men are under increased scrutiny despite the fact that Nadal still leads the ATP World Tour in wins this season and Novak jut claimed his third titl ...
Rafael Nadal, Stanislas Wawrinka, David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Grigor Dimitrov are all in the top half of the draw while Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori, Tomas Berdych, Jo-Wilfred Tsonga and Milos Raonic are in the bottom half of the draw. ROLAND-GARROS ATP World Tour
Richard Gasquet doesn't like to be trivial in his interviews. Away from the courts, hoping to make a comeback from a back injury that threatens to take him out from the French Open, Gasquet used some of his time off to concede an interview to the magazine Sport&Style. And Richard had a lot to say about his famous colleagues in the ATP World Tour. "Federer and Nadal are not as confident as they may look like. Novak Djokovic instead, has a lot of self-confidence. What strikes me about Rafa is that even if he is facing the World No.100 he always is worried. I am sure that neither Federer nor Nadal have ever used doping substances. I can say the same thing about all the players that currently sit ahead of me in the ATP rankings" revealed the French, currently ranked at World No.11. "I will never become a TV commentator. Whoever does it, tells just a whole lot of baloney. Former players forget too soon that once they were tennis players, and it is too easy to give advice or talk bad about former colleagues" al ...
EMIRATES ATP RANKINGS 2014 Federer Back Up To No. 4 Roger Federer is back up to No. 4 in the Emirates ATP Rankings this week after reaching the quarter-finals of the Sony Open Tennis in Miami (l. to Nishikori). We’ve seen some tough matches at the 2014 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells Tennis Garden, but Sunday means we’ve finally reached the end of the road. Who do you think will come out on top in the WTA and ATP World Tour competition?
February 8 2014 Dubai UAE Novak Djokovic is accustomed to defending titles, but his defence of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships crown he claimed in 2013 will have a special edge to it. The Serbian will not only be bidding to equal Roger Federer’s record title tally of five when play in the ATP World Tour 500 Series Event begins on 24th February, he will also be trying to accomplish a career-first and win a title for the fifth time. So the pressure will be on as he faces a spectacular field that includes not only arch-rival Federer but 2013 semi-finalist Juan Martin Del Potro, recent Australian Open semi-finalist Tomas Berdych and the entertaining Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. “The pressure is always there as a top player. I do feel there's always high expectations,” said Djokovic, who won the title in 2009-11 as well as 2013. “But it's all part of our sport. It's what we need to deal with. It's what we need to accept and, you know, try to use it in a positive way. “By saying that, I ...
World No. 8 Stanislas Wawrinka reached the Australian Open third round for the sixth year in a row on Wednesday night as he held off Alejandro Falla for a 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-4 victory. The Swiss prevailed in two hours and 47 minutes as he converted six of his 17 break points and hit 61 winners to just 26 from Falla. "I was expecting a tough match," said Wawrinka. "I was focused on myself, trying to be more relaxed, trying to be more positive with myself. At the end the most important thing is to win it. I'm quite happy about that. I'm now looking forward to the next one." The 28-year-old Wawrinka reached his first Grand Slam semi-final last year at the US Open (l. to Djokovic) and also made a riveting run at the Australian Open, pushing Novak Djokovic to a 12-10 fifth set in the fourth round. The right-hander is unbeaten thus far in 2014, opening his campaign with his fifth ATP World Tour title at the Aircel Chennai Open (d. Roger-Vasselin). Wawrinka goes on to face Canadian No. 28 seed Vasek Pospisil, w ...
David Nalbandian headed into retirement on the back of an exhibition defeat to world No 1 Rafael Nadal. Playing in front of a crowd of almost 10,000 in Buenos Aires, the Argentine went down 6-3 6-4. Nalbandian had beaten Nadal in Cordoba on Thursday. Their second match of the week was again a light- hearted affair with Novak Djokovic, who will face Nadal in another exhibition match on Sunday, also playing a starring role. Dressed as a medic, the world No 2 came onto court at one stage to 'treat' Nalbandian. Djokovic and Juan Monaco, later joined Nalbandian and Nadal on court for a doubles match. Nalbandian announced his retirement earlier in the year due to long-standing hip and shoulder injuries. The former world No 3 is regarded as one of the best players never to win a Grand Slam title. He did reach the Wimbledon final back in 2002, losing to Lleyton Hewitt. Nalbandian also captured 11 titles on the ATP World Tour.
Rafa Nadal will play Novak Djokovic in the final of the ATP World Tour in London. Nadal beat Roger Federer and Djok beat Stan Wawrinka.
Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer for the second. time in three days to get his ATP World Tour. Finals defence off to a solid start.
Paris Masters Tennis - World number one Rafa Nadal broke the stubborn resistance of Poland's Jerzy Janowicz's to win 7-5 6-4 and reach the last eight of the Paris Masters. In the semi-finals of the Paris event - one of only three Masters titles the Spaniard has yet to win - Nadal faces local favourite Richard Gasquet who, along with Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, have completed the ATP World Tour Finals line-up. Both players won their third-round matches at Bercy but it was Canadian Milos Raonic's defeat by Tomas Berdych that sent them into next week's season-ending showdown in London. They join Nadal, Novak Djokovic, David Ferrer, Juan Martin Del Potro, Berdych and Roger Federer in next week's showpiece. All eight reached the Paris Masters quarter-finals on Friday. World number two Djokovic and 17-times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, who is ranked sixth, also advanced. Nadal, who has yet to win the Miami and Shanghai Masters either, broke decisively in the 11th game of the opening set and, after an early ...
Gotta except this fact: Nole lifts the trophy and Rafa goes on top. Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal in China Open final 63 64. On Monday Rafa will return to on ATP World Tour ranking. Congratulations for Rafa and Nole.
This is a little late but I've been looking at my predictions from the beginning of the year for the Grand Slam championships this year and they've been surprisingly accurate. 2013 Australian Open: Novak Djokovic defeats Andy Murray. (Correct) 2013 French Open: Rafael Nadal defeats Roger Federer. (Correct champion, incorrect runner up) 2013 Wimbledon: Andy Murray defeats Novak Djokovic. (Correct) 2013 US Open: Andy Murray defeats Juan Martin Del Potro. (???) I also predicted the year end top four players would be as such: 1. Novak Djokovic 2. Andy Murray 3. Roger Federer 4. Rafael Nadal So so far I've been pretty accurate with the mistake of the French Open runner up being David Ferrer instead of Federer and it seems very unlikely Federer will make it back up to three before the year ends but I'm pretty proud of the Australian Open and Wimbledon predictions. My next prediction is that the World Tour Finals will be a close match between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic which Murray will win ...
