Willy Caballero bides his time in battle with Joe Hart to be Manchester City No 1: By Jason Burt Forme...
Manchester City are keeping England No.1 Joe Hart waiting on a new contract. City have tied a host of their key players to long-term deals this summer, including Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko. Hart, who will have one year left on his contract next summer, was thought to be next in line to pen a new deal with the Premier League champions. But City have yet to open talks with Hart's representatives, despite the 27-year-old having re-established himself as first-choice keeper after he was dropped last season. City boss Manuel Pellegrini bought Willy Caballero from his former club Malaga for £6m this summer to provide competition for Hart and keep the England stopper on his toes.
Transfer news: Vincent Kompany hails Manchester City's summer business Vincent Kompany has saluted Manchester City's summer business, with fresh faces acquired and new deals agreed. Four additions have been made at the Etihad Stadium, with Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando, Willy Caballero and Bacary Sagna joining the Premier League champions. Their arrival will help to add depth to a squad already brimming with world-class talent. They will also help to complement key men on Manuel Pellegrini’s books. City have worked hard to ensure that the core of a successful side has been retained, with Samir Nasri, Aleksandar Kolarov, Sergio Aguero and club captain Kompany agreeing contact extensions. It feels like a productive window for those in the City camp, with old and new pulling in the same direction.
Who will be where in EPL CHELSEA (Champions) Chelsea bought Spain team- mates Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas this summer for a combined £62m I tipped them for the title last year when Mourinho returned but the lack of a goalscorer - and narrow defeats at places such as Aston Villa and Crystal Palace - ended their hopes. Now that Diego Costa has arrived from Atletico Madrid and Cesc Fabregas is back in the Premier League I believe they will put that right and Mourinho will be a Premier League champion once more. Last season: Third Manchester City (Runners-up) Deserved champions last season despite not being at their superlative best for all of the campaign - an indicator of just how much quality is in manager Manuel Pellegrini's squad. Yaya Toure seems to have got over his hissy fit about his lack of a birthday cake and Eliaquim Mangala has arrived from Porto in a £32m deal, as well as Bacary Sagna on a free from Arsenal, to strengthen their defence. It will be interesting to see whether Willy Caballero e ...
Arsenal kicked off their season with a convincing 3-0 Community Shield victory over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. Olivier Giroud all but confirmed victory for the Gunners in the second half with a dipping drive from distance which evaded new City goalkeeper Willy Caballero. "They came up against a very weak Manchester City side - particularly in defence - but the Gunners played with impressive speed and technique throughout the 90 minutes. "Manuel Pellegrini will feel after this that he needs to re-integrate his World Cup stars as quickly as possible."Santi Cazorla opened the scoring with a well-taken finish in the first half which comfortably beat Caballero. And Aaron Ramsey doubled the lead before half time, combining with Yaya Sanogo before displaying excellent skill to get beyond the defence and fire into the bottom corner.

How Manchester City could line up this season The English champions are looking to improve their fortunes in Europe this season with careful additions in the latest in our series looking at the Premier League's top six sides By Jamie Dunn Jul 24, 2014 14:00:00 After a season in which Manuel Pellegrini guided Manchester City to a Premier League title in his first season in charge, the champions can ill-afford to rest on their laurels this summer. And Madrid-based paper AS claim that Wenger's number one target is Casillas, who was frequently rotated with Diego Lopez by Real boss Carlo Ancelotti last season. The 33-year-old has three years left on his contract at the Bernabeu but his wages decrease year on year and that may force him to *** his options.Wenger is hopeful Casillas' compatriot Santi Cazorla and former team-mate Mesut Ozil can convince him to make the switch to the Emirates. Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Cardiff keeper David Marshall and have had a £6million bid rejected. AS, meanwhile, claim that Wenger will move for Malaga's Willy Caballero or Saint-Étienne's Stephane Ruffier if he can't sign Casillas.

The 26-year-old’s status as City’s first-choice has come under threat after a series of mistakes which has resulted in Costel Pantilimon starting in the club’s last four fixtures, while Goal revealed earlier this month that Malaga's Willy Caballero has been targeted by Manuel Pellegrini. Speaking to Absolute Radio's 'Rock 'N' Roll Football Show with Ian Wright', Seaman said: “I would imagine he’s going through a lot of frustration at the moment you know because, like when I was going through a bad patch the first thing I wanted to do was play another game. “You know to try and get it out of the way and then rebuild your confidence. With Joe he’s going to have a bit of trouble doing that because obviously he’s not playing at City.
