We went to see Selma yesterday at Boston's downtown megaplex. When the movie was over a group began singing a song: I hear my neighbor crying 'I can't breathe." I'm in the struggle now and I can't leave. Calling out the violence of the racist police, We ain't gonna stop till our people are free. They (about fifteen people, I think) continued as they walked out of the theater, gaining a few additions to their group (see video). I wonder if this is happening around the country at theaters showing the movie? Anyhow, between the movie and the incidents that prompted the singing, brought back to me an exchange from the West Wing, fifteen years ago probably, The issue is whether the leader of Sinn Fein should be invited to the White House. WASHINGTON D.C. — On a trip to Afghanistan during President Barack Obama's first term, Defense Secretary Robert Gates was stunned to find a telephone line at the military's special operations headquarters that linked directly back to a top White House national security official. "I had them tear it out while I was standing there," Gates said earlier this month as he recounted his discovery. "I told the commanders, 'If you get a call from the White House, you tell them to go to *** and call me.'" To Gates, the phone in Kabul came to symbolize Obama's efforts to micromanage the Pentagon and centralize decision-making in the White House. That criticism later would be echoed publicly and pointedly by Gates' successor, Leon Panetta. The president's third Pentagon chief, Chuck Hagel, was picked partly because he was thought to be more deferential to Obama's close circle of White House advisers. But over time, Hagel also grew frustrated with what he saw as the West Wing's insularity. There have been similar g ...
At this late date in the Obama presidency, there is no surer way to elicit paranoid whispers or armchair psychoanalysis from Democrats than to mention the name Valerie Jarrett. Party operatives, administration officials—they are shocked by her sheer longevity and marvel at her influence. When I asked a longtime source who left the Obama White House years ago for his impressions of Jarrett, he confessed that he was too fearful to speak with me, even off the record. This is not as irrational as it sounds. Obama has said he consults Jarrett on every major decision, something current and former aides corroborate. “Her role since she has been at the White House is one of the broadest and most expansive roles that I think has ever existed in the West Wing,” says Anita Dunn, Obama’s former communications director. Broader, even, than the role of running the West Wing. This summer, the call to send Attorney General Eric Holder on a risky visit to Ferguson, Missouri, was made by exactly three people: Holde ...

King Ding-A-Ling says he's never heard of Jonathan Gruber. The White House visitor logs say Gruber made about two dozen visits to the west wing to meet with Opossum, but Opossum has never heard of Gruber. Besides the fact that it's a stretch to see Katherine Heigl play some CIA analyst out to kill some terrorists, no one shows up to the Oval Office in the White House to meet with the president (even if she is a black female, another stretch these days, even if Alfie Woodard does a halfway decent job) wearing a leather skirt and a leather jacket. No one. Not in this town, Hollywood. It would be best for NBC to air reruns of West Wing and leave the serious White House stuff to Shonda Rimes over at ABC. Yeah that's my review of State of Affairs.
Oh, Katherine Heigl, you are gorgeous. Just not gorgeous enough for me to care anything about yet another White House (probably) liberal fantasy soap opera. I was literally so over than before the first episode of West Wing aired. And I'm not getting any less over it.

Jay Carney is stepping down as White House Press Secretary over 'strain' on his family life, he announced today. But the decision to leave the Obama administration came weeks ago, multiple sources including one in the West Wing . The lying is catching up with everybody. 'He first started talking about it in late April,' Obama and his cabal force their soldiers to walk lying lock step with the Party LIE!! the White House insider said Friday after the decision was made final. 'But the president had the prerogative to pull the trigger when he decided to.' That time ended up being Friday, just hours after Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki resigned amid a major scandal involving faked wait-lists and denied medical care in the VA health system. 'To be honest, the move was more about how to deflect attention away from Eric Shinseki's resignation, and less about giving Jay a thoughtful send-off,' the White House official said. Now Carnmey has to worry the rest of his natural life about CONCRETE BOOTS OBAMA ...
Former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin, who worked for the Obamas from 2008 through 2011, pulled no punches in a recent article about the nightmare that’s going on at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., proclaiming that Michelle has turned the White House East Wing, where she rules, into “the Worst Wing.” In the piece, published in the New Republic, Cherlin wrote: “(The) First Lady’s office can be a confining, frustrating, even miserable place to work. “Jealousy and discontentment have festered, as courtiers squabble over the allocation of responsibility and access to Mrs. Obama, both of which can be aggravatingly scarce. “While Michelle has been slammed for destroying the ‘East Wing,’ where the First Lady’s offices are located, the fact is she’s made the famous ‘West Wing,’ where the president works, the worst wing because when she comes over she makes Barack’s staffers walk on egg shells because of her explosive behavior – which seems to only grow worse eac ...

In the days after HealthCare.gov went live, White House chief of Staff Denis McDonough quietly dispatched Jeff Zients, a favorite West Wing fixer, to *** the operation and report back. When Zients did, President Barack Obama learned the project was in worse shape than suspected — riddled with coding problems, management issues and communication gaps, according to a senior administration official.
Ed Rogers in the Washington Post: "With Democrats now stuck in a downward spiral, lying about the Obamacare lies, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) offered Team Obama a way out at Wednesday’s Senate Finance Committee hearing. He asked Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, “Why not shut it [the Obamacare Web site] down and do it right?” But inexplicably, rather than trying to reboot, the White House continues to stare straight at the camera and stand in front of audiences everywhere and tell one whopper after another, even though everyone knows officials aren’t telling the truth. This is bewildering, insulting and corrosive, all at the same time. And everyone gets that, except for a few isolated souls in the West Wing."
Meanwhile... At The White House . "Now in its second week, the partial government shutdown has taken its toll on the White House, where about 3 of 4 staffers have been furloughed, barred even from checking the BlackBerrys they usually clutch like worry beads. Of the 1,701 advisers, assistants, number-crunchers, butlers, chefs and landscapers who work at the White House on a normal day, fewer than 450 are on duty, according to President Barack Obama's budget office. The rest fall under an unfortunate label that has kept hundreds of thousands of federal workers home: "non-essential." At one entrance to the West Wing, a wall that normally displays clippings from the day's newspapers hasn't been updated in over a week. "Congress slips toward shutdown," reads one outdated headline in a near-empty press office. With a full array of official duties that must be carried out despite the impasse with Congress, Obama's aides have strived to maintain normalcy. But the logistical gymnastics of running the federal gove ...

So, some thoughts on Olympus Has Fallen... 1. West Wing did it better. 2. The opening scene was completely useless. 3. The kid was completely useless. 4. Dylan Mcdermott was completely useless. 5. Morgan Freeman was completely useless. 6. 90% of the rest of the cast, including all of the non-Butler Secret Service were completely useless. 7. The Secret Service need to practice more action plans than "stand out of cover holding your gun aimlessly forward, waiting to be shot"... 8. The Secret Service probably shouldn't allow the entire Korean army to enter the White House Bunker with the president. 9. The Secret Service probably shouldn't continue to trust the Koreans in the bunker after they are told that the Koreans up at the White House (who they came in with) starting shooting everyone. 10. The Secret Service really shouldn't be surprised when the Korean army that has accompanied them into the White House bunker decides to start shooting all of your security, especially after already being told how their ...
'West Wing' star Rob Lowe on I'm not really into a bubble gum romp about White House being destroyed
When will NBC wise up and make a West Wing sequel? Here's my proposed premise; Matt Santos (Jimmy Smits) fails to get re-elected and the Republican Party takes over the Presidency, and Congress. Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe) despite being the underdog for the Democratic nomination secures it through a flourish of inspirational speeches. The first season is about his campaign, getting the band back together (along with new faces). His VP running-mate is Charlie Young (Dule Hill) take the White House making Jeb Bartlet (Martin Sheen) a proud man just before his death. There you go Hollywood..you are welcome.
In 1974 a US Army Private stole a helicopter and landed it at the White House...Twice. In 1974, Robert K. Preston, a United States Army private first class, stole a United States Army Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter from Fort Meade, Maryland, flew it to Washington, D.C. And hovered for six minutes over the White House before descending on the South Lawn, about 100 yards from the West Wing. There was no initial attempt from the Executive Protective Service to shoot the helicopter down, and he later took off and was chased by two Maryland State Police helicopters. Preston forced one of the police helicopters down through his maneuvering of the helicopter, and then returned to the White House. This time, as he hovered above the south grounds, the Executive Protective Service fired at him with shotguns and sub-machine guns. Preston was injured slightly, and landed his helicopter. In a plea bargain, he pled guilty to "wrongful appropriation and breach of the peace," and was sentenced to 1 year in prison and fine ...
Theodore Roosevelt (TR) was one of the most interesting of US Presidents in American History. He was a Hero in the Spanish War (Rough Rider) when he was younger. He became US president in 1900 and Immediately He painted the Exacutive Mansion white and Called it the White House and later added the West Wing to it. He tried to build a Canal in Columbia. the Columbian Government did not let him so he created a country called Panama and then built the Panama Canal. He was the First president who refused to lay back and act as a King (like all others before him), instead He was on his feet to serve the people who elected him and that became a habit of all future presidents. He established National resourses as National Parks to owned by the US Government so they will stay untouched for ever. He never drank Alcohol but He drank a gallon of Coffee every day
6/4/2013 - David Limbaugh Isn't it rich that the White House is accusing Attorney General Eric Holder's critics of being "partisans who seem more interested in launching political attacks than cooperating with him to protect the security and constitutional rights of the American people"? Partisan? Launching political attacks? Well, if the White House and Holder were not so partisan and attack-oriented themselves, we wouldn't be having this discussion about Holder, the IRS or the AP. Indeed, politics, partisanship and self-interest dominate the thinking of this White House to the detriment of the national interest. The New York Times is reporting that "some in the West Wing privately tell associates they wish (Holder) would step down, viewing him as politically maladroit. But the latest attacks may stiffen the administration's resistance in the near term to a change for fear of emboldening critics." Study that quote -- both sentences. The stated reason some in the White House want Holder to go is not becau ...

Introverts: The Best Leaders for Proactive Employees We often expect corporate executives to conform to certain extroverted CEO stereotypes: C for charismatic, E for effusive, and O for outgoing. To wit: Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson, who very publicly flew around the world in a hot air balloon; former General Electric CEO Jack Welch, a guest player on the sitcom 30 Rock; and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, the swashbuckling yachtsman. But then there are the introverted CEOs—calm, eremitic, and observant—who prefer flying below the radar. You've never heard of them because they don't like the spotlight. Take Peter Rouse, who last week was named interim White House chief of staff, replacing the extraverted Rahm Emanuel. Barely known outside of Washington circles, Rouse is a quiet politician who seems to eschew the public eye, preferring instead to hunker down and deal with problems. Within the walls of the West Wing, he is reportedly known as a "fixer." Both types of leaders, the extraverts and the . ...
Here's a BIG read! Look who's named as co conspirators in the IRS scandal! Please read and share!: By KARL ROVE The Obama administration finds itself in perilous political waters amid three unfolding scandals. First came last week's congressional testimony by three highly credible officials, plus some excellent reporting, which showed that the Obama administration consciously misled Americans after the Benghazi attacks that took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. The White House and State Department knew the attacks were the work of terrorists, not the spontaneous reaction of viewers to an anti-Muslim video on YouTube, as they insisted for two weeks. If the author of the fanciful yarn that a video provoked the attacks works in the West Wing or on the State Department's fifth floor, powerful heads should roll. Already, officials in both buildings are quietly suggesting someone in the other building is at fault. Related Video American Center for Law and Justice Directo ...
Abc News analyst Trey Hardin regarding the IRS scandal: “I will tell you this on the IRS front. I’ve worked in this town for over 20 years in the White House and on Capitol Hill and I can say with a very strong sense of certainty that there are people very close to this president that not only knew what the IRS were doing but authorized it. It simply just does not happen at an agency level like that without political advisers likely in the West Wing certainly connected to the president’s ongoing campaign organization.”

APPARENTLY WE MUST BE GETTING SOME BAD INFORMATION. While millions of Americans are trying to figure out how they will provide the next meal for their families after months or years of unemployment...and the worst debt crisis that we, as a nation have ever faced.the White House is getting a taxpayer funded makeover. It's good to be the king. 2nd Oval Office Readied in White House Rehab Project This summer there will be two Oval Offices in the White House complex, and it won’t be a case of double vision. Rabin formally opposed a Palestinian state more than a year after White House handshake, letter from 1994 shows Asked what prime minister really intended, top aide Haber gives mixed response, says bitterly, ‘Perhaps you should ask the assassin’ By RAPHAEL AHREN More than a year after his hesitant handshake on the White House lawn with PLO leader Yasser Arafat in September 1993, prime minister Yitzhak Rabin remained formally opposed to a Palestinian state, a December 1994 letter signed by his top aide makes plain. The brief missive, dated December 25, 1994, and made available to The Times of Israel on Monday, states: “Concerning your letter to the prime minister with regard to a Palestinian state I am replying: The prime minister is of the opinion that there is no room for a Palestinian state.” The letter is cited in a Monday blogpost on The Times of Israel by Yair Shamir, son of former prime minister Yitzhak Shamir and a high-ranking Yisrael Beytenu candidate in next month’s elections. I've had myself a little West Wing marathon today which I have very much enjoyed. It's made me long for the good ol' days when Martin Sheen and Rob Lowe were running the White House.
it just would have been white maie land owners--Romney would have gotten 80% of the vote::: IT makes sense that Mitt Romney and his advisers are still gobsmacked by the fact that they’re not commandeering the West Wing. (Though, as “The Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver jested, the White House might have been one of the smaller houses Romney ever lived in.) Team Romney has every reason to be shellshocked. Its candidate, after all, resoundingly won the election of the country he was wooing. Mitt Romney is the president of white male America. Maybe the group can retreat to a man cave in a Whiter House, with mahogany paneling, brown leather Chesterfields, a moose head over the fireplace, an elevator for the presidential limo, and one of those men’s club signs on the phone that reads: “Telephone Tips: ‘Just Left,’ 25 cents; ‘On His Way,’ 50 cents; ‘Not here,’ $1; ‘Who?’ $5.” In its delusional death spiral, the white male patriarchy was so hard core, so redolent of country clubs ...
For those of you who may not have followed West Wing, the last season was about an election. Jimmy Smits represented the Democrats and Alan Alda the Republicans. It was a grand portrayal of how a good honorable campaign should be run. In the end Alda loses to Smits but is offered the position of Secretary of State by Smits. I just sent a message to the White House that some such magnanimous act be made toward a descent man and patriot, Governor Romney. It could go a long way to bringing the log jam in Congress to a demise.
Barack Obama: Closing Arguments By Troy Senik Thursday, November 01 2012 Whether he [President Obama] will gain another term remains in question. Whether he deserves one does not. Almost exactly four years ago, as a speechwriter serving George W. Bush in the final days of his presidency, I stood on a terrace outside of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building (the gargantuan facility directly adjacent to the West Wing) puffing on a cigarette – the only fleeting respite one could find from the manic schedule of a White House employee. Only a generation prior, a staffer taking up residency in the EEOB would have found his new office supplied with a gleaming ashtray. By the time I was there, we were sequestered to this outdoor holding pen, rain or shine. Somewhere in the interim, I used to joke with colleagues, we lost the Republic. This was the only chance one had in the course of a normal day to make Small Talk with fellow staffers outside of an immediate circle of colleagues. And by the time Election Da ...

Just finished "Excelsis Deo" from Season 1 of the West Wing. In the show, White House Communications Director, Toby Ziegler, just before Christmas, is called by the DC police believing that he may know a homeless man who died of exposure on the mall in Washington. It turns out the deceased man was wearing his coat that Ziegler donated to Goodwill. It also turns out that the man was a homeless Korean War veteran... down to the end of the program, the White House, with a little string pulling by Ziegler using President Bartlet's name, arranges a proper military funeral with an honor guard. The last 5 minutes of the show is a masterpiece of TV... President Bartlet asks Ziegler, "You know, if we do this, every homeless vet will come out of the wood works to expect a full honor guard for his funeral." Zeigler responds, "One can only hope, sir" A small ceremony with 21 gun salute, presentation of the flag to the homeless man's homeless brother, and the song, "Drummer Boy" makes for one of the most respectf ...
Would the Zetas shed some light on the the purpose of the huge underground construction going on at the White House? My hunch is PX-related however the construction appears (to me) to go way beyond normal safety expectations for PX sojourn. [and from another] The construction project — officially a long overdue upgrade of White House utilities — began in September 2010 with the excavation of a huge, multistory pit in front of the West Wing, wrapping around to include West Executive Avenue, the street that separates the White House from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The General Services Administration, which oversaw the work, said it was to replace aging water and steam lines, sewers, storm sewers and electrical wiring conduits. Heating, air conditioning and fire control equipment also are being updated. However, what reporters and photographers saw during the construction appeared to go well beyond that: a sprawling, multistory structure whose underground assembly required truckload after ...

The white house in US Built in 1792, this magnificent 132-room mansion is the rarest of homes in the U.S. since it is not only the residence of the U.S. president and his family, but it also has two wings with offices for the president, the First Lady, top staff and aides. Designed by Irish architect James Hoban, it was built during the Federalist period (late 1780-1830), but is considered Georgian in the Palladian style with neoclassical influences. After the cornerstone was laid on October 13, 1792, it was built by slaves, free African-American laborers, immigrants, and salaried Europeans. Second President John Adams and his wife, Abigail, took occupancy on November 1, 1800. Made from sandstone, brick and wood, the White House was composed only of the "Residence" and was completed for a cost of $232,371.83. There are three parts to the White House: The Residence (where the First Family resides), the West Wing (Oval Office and top executive offices) and the East Wing (First Lady and offices for her staff ...

If the Justice Department refrains from airdropping lawyers onto the SEAL’s hometown, it will send a message that nondisclosure agreements are mere formalities. But if it does go after Bissonnette, it will signal that the only leaks actively pursued are those inconvenient to the White House. After all, if the Justice Department really cared about illegal revelations of the Osama bin Laden raid, half of the West Wing would be in chains today."
The First Lady of the United States is not elected, has no constitutional duties and receives no salary, but that doesn’t mean the position is without its privileges – including a staff of 22 White House employees who make a combined nearly $1.5 million per year. Various journalists have scoured the White House’s annual report to Congress on the West Wing payroll and listed those names that serve as members First Lady Michelle Obama’s staff. Combined, their salaries total $1,495,700. By comparison, a similar examination of the 2008 payroll, printed in the Washington Post, shows First Lady Laura Bush tallied 17 staffers, who combined made roughly $1.28 million. News of so many taxpayer-funded salaries attending the First Lady – which doesn’t include the White House servant staff or the Secret Service detail assigned to the First Family – has prompted some commentators to question if so many staffers are necessary. “[Michele Obama] doesn’t perform any official duties. But this hasn’t det ...
You know I've really really really wanted to like Newsroom on HBO because I did enjoy West Wing even if it was a little, okay a lot, preachy and kind of overdid the White House as having about 7000 rooms with about 12,000 people working there. I even tolerated all that elitist limousine liberalism with people obviously making a half a million dollars a year pretending they know what its like to make about a tenth of that. However, that show had substance--it was about the White House and the President and making big important decisions about big important stuff like war and peace and spending trillions of dollars. Newsroom is about people who think they are important because they get paid lots of money and talk about important stuff, but please spare me the self-important stuff. If you want to show me how a newsroom works great, but don't waste my time with lots of speeches about how important the job they are doing is and how they are all one big happy family cause its all bull*. And why is Jane Fonda's ...
You can say that about EVERY show... Like the West Wing taking place in the White House or a Few Good Men in a courtroom.
Harold & Kumar star Kal Penn braved similar disillusionment when he took a break from acting to work in the White House Office of Public Engagement. As he told The New York Times last year, “I was there my first night until 11 P.M. and I was like, ‘Sweet, let’s order Chinese food.’ And everybody was like, ‘You can’t actually order delivery to the White House.’ I was like, ‘But they do it on West Wing!’ ”
Today is, perhaps, Romney's best day yet; his speech to the Veteran's of Foreign Wars was a powerful affirmation of American Exceptionalism. Arguably his best line of the speech was, “The surest path to danger is always weakness and indecision," i.e. Obama's way. Another direct shot at the sitting president was this: "It is reported that Bob Gates, the President’s first secretary of defense, bluntly addressed another security problem within this administration. After secret operational details of the bin Laden raid were given to reporters, Secretary Gates walked into the West Wing and told the Obama team to 'shut up.' He added a colorful word for emphasis... "This isn’t a partisan issue; it’s a national security crisis. And yesterday, Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said, quote, 'I think the White House has to understand that some of this is coming from their ranks...' And then comes the zinger: "And let me be clear...What kind of White House w ...

Bill Sobel shared a Interesting commentary from longtime journalist, reporter and media consultant Cameron about HBO's The Newsroom. Not sure I totally agree but would love to hear some feedback from our intelligent and eclectic readers. "I wish I could be more enthusiastic about the new HBO series "Newsroom". But based on the first three episodes, despite Aaron Sorkin's great writing, this series is not a realistic look into the sausage-making of a great newscast anymore than "West Wing" was a realistic portrayal of the White House. The "Newsroom" hero, Will McAvoy, seems like a cross between Keith Olbermann and Lou Dobbs (both of whom seem like parodies of Stephen Colbert). The character becomes more of a prosecutor than a reporter. It's fun TV, but not very enlightening about the challenges of the news biz." FOR MORE GREAT STUFF FROM JIM FOLLOW HIS BLOG AT:
Wendy Williams discusses the claims in a new book, The Obamas, that Michelle Obama is a strong force and source of conflict in the West Wing of the White House.
Spotted at White House: Glee's Jane Lynch, walking from West Wing, thru colonnade, and to South Lawn to watch Marine One departure
Had an amazing visit to the White House today. Macon Phillips, head of social media there hosted. Ate at the White House Mess in the West Wing (run by the Navy) and strolled through the offices, including by the Oval Office. The POTUS wasn't in, though. Ended with a tour of the Digital Strategy office. A day to remember.
During their champions visit to the White House, several New Orleans Saints players took some time to cook up Gulf Coast Shrimp with Assistant White House Chef Sam Kass. Watch as the players take their cuisine to the West Wing and the Press Briefing Room.
What kind of day has it been. This is the title of every Aaron Sorkin season one finale (Sports Night, West Wing, Studio 60). Now where my life may not be as stressful as people who work in television or in the White House, this last school semester was not easy. Taking Astronomy, Middle Eastern Humanities, Western Civilization 1750 to present, Spanish 2, and Romanticism and Enlightenment, along with My Mac going nuts twice with the second time costing me my hard drive, and trying to volunteer at the Florida Film Festival, I would say difficult is just one of many words to describe these last few months. In the end however I got four B's and one A, earned my two year degree, and will going to UCF in the Fall for my bachelors in something. Overall worth it
Just got a peek at the Oval Office :) (@ White House - West Wing w/ [pic]:

today we got to go into the white house gardens, and I saw the actual West Wing and Oval Office close up!
This week, the President hosted a forum on Women and the Economy, welcomed the President of Brazil, traveled to Florida to urge the Senate to pass the Buffett Rule, and took part in the great annual White House tradition, the Easter Egg Roll. That's April 6th to April 12th or "You're Proof of Change...
In their continuing effort to make the White House more accessible, President Obama and the First Lady have teamed up with the Google Art Project. People all...
Aaron Sorkin is making a new series about national newsrooms. He made West Wing which was deliriously wonderful (although about as far from the real thing as one could possibly get). I wonder if Newsroom is going to be the same way, brilliantly written but filled with the mythology rather than any dose of reality. I worked for the White House for a time. Went there many times. Even with all that experience (which was entirely different than the show) I was enthralled too. I wanted it to be like West Wing so badly.
Watch the new version for 2010! if Obama's administration was put to the theme of The West Wing? Well, now you can find out! 100,000+ views, thanks for watching!!! I just thought this little mashup was a fun idea - I'm not trying to push a political agenda here! I just thought it'd be fun to imagine if we were to see the grandure of the idealistic "West Wing" in real life. This was shown on CNN's Showbiz Tonight!! into the video. ~ What if Barack Obama's top advisors were part of the show The West Wing? As promised, a new video introduction of senior White House advisors, in the style of the tv show, The West Wing.
