Kayjay Seems 4:10pm Mar 14 « Breaking News » Palestinians to Obama: Stay off Temple Mount! DEBKAfile March 14, 2013, 9:48 AM (GMT+02:00) The Palestinian Authority has advised the White House in Washington to call off President Barack Obama’s tour of the Western Wall and al Aqsa mosque on Temple Mount under the escort of Israeli security personnel. Obama is to spend March 20 and 21 on a visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah. His visits to those shrines, said the PA, would be an affirmation of Israeli sovereignty. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad called on its supporters to prevent the US president setting foot on Temple Mount with a hail of rocks and eggs.
“Western Wall (Wailing Wall) brings tears to my eyes! I remember the prayers I put there!
On This Day: 0515 BC - The building of the great Jewish temple in Jerusalem was completed. This was the second great temple – the first had been destroyed by the Babylonian conquest. Herod the Great renovated the temple – really demolishing it and building a far larger one - in 20 BCE and it was this temple that the Roman’s destroyed on 70CE while crushing the Jewish Revolt. It is the lower level Western Wall that survives today as the “Wailing Wall.”

Shalom Tarah, Visits to the Jewish People’s Holiest Site Up in 2012 “After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us, that we may live in His presence.” (Hosea 6:2) According to the Israeli police, visits to the holiest site accessible to the Jewish People, the Western (Wailing) Wall, rose in 2012 Last year, an estimated 10.5 million people came to the revered Western Wall (Kotel or HaKotel HaMa'aravi in Hebrew), which is located in the Old City of Jerusalem. (Arutz Sheva) Since only 3.5 million tourists visited Israel last year, the large number of visitors to the wall represents the close ties that Israelis have to this last remaining section of the Second Temple’s surrounding courtyard wall believed to have been built by Herod the Great about 19 BC. The tradition of calling the Western Wall the “Wailing Wall” reflects the grief of the Jewish People over the destruction of the Holy Temple by the Romans in AD 70. After that destruction, the Jewish People were prohibite . ...
Fringe Benefits? 03/05/13 Elicia Brown Special To The Jewish Week Not so long ago, I felt my first stirrings of tallis envy. It struck me not as a deep-seated jealousy, but more as a growing curiosity, a desire to learn more. Then, just a day or so after I’d begun to imagine what it might feel like to drape that silky fabric around my shoulders, enveloping me in prayer, just as I’d begun to consider which of the many possible designs would be suitable, the tallit (or tallis in Yiddish) was once again dragged into the media spotlight. The news wasn’t pretty. Once again last month, women were arrested at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, at Judaism’s holiest site, for wearing what The New York Times called, “traditionally male garb.” Ha! I thought. Here on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a woman who attends a morning minyan at a liberal congregation without a prayer shawl may find herself far outnumbered by females wrapped in the flowing cloth of a tallit, its four corners dangling with the soft ...

ARAB-ISRAELI WARS May 14, 1948 The Jewish National Council declares the establishment of Israel. War breaks out between the new state and surrounding Arab nations. When the war ends in 1949, Jordan controls the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Egypt controls the Gaza Strip. Israel is established as a nation, but without access to the holy places in Old Jerusalem! David Ben-Gurion becomes Israel’s first Prime Minister. July 1956 In the wake of Egypt’s nationalizing the Suez Canal Zone, Israel invades Egypt and takes control of the Gaza Strip and Sinai Peninsula. Israel later withdraws after the United Nations establishes a security force in these areas. June 1967 In what came to be called the “Six-Day War,” Israel fights the combined forces of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Israel takes over the Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Israel now has access to its historic holy places, including the Western Wall at the Temple Mount. One Purim, shortly before my second daughter, Hallel, turned 5-years-old, she sat rapt, listening to the Book of Esther. The story opens with King Ahashverosh hosting a banquet, and demanding that his wife, Queen Vashti, come dance for the male merry-makers. She refuses. When Hallel heard Vashti say no to the king, she sat up straight, her eyes widened, and she called out, "Like Rosa Parks!" Again it is Purim, and again Hallel will celebrate a birthday. Rabbi Sue Levi Elwell sent this Jerusalem Post article to me. Women on the Centennial Trip in March will celebrate Rosh Chodesh at the wall...get ready ladies! Shabbat shlaom all! The great Kotel schlep By HALLEL ABRAMOWITZ-SILVERMAN 02/20/2013 23:48 Jerusalem Post On Purim at the Kotel, I will refuse pompous demands – in this case that women keep quiet. Last week, on Rosh Hodesh Adar [the New Moon] , my mother, eight other women and I were detained by police for wearing a tallit and singing at the Western Wall. Halfway through our detainment some of us were moved, without our lawyer, to a different police station. A police officer presented me with an agreement to stay away from the Kotel for 15 days. I nervously and reluctantly signed. In the story of Purim you read about two courageous young women, Vashti and Esther, who have always been role models for me. Shortly before my fifth birthday, listening to the megila, I heard Vashti say “no” when the king summoned her. I perked up immediately and .. ...
Today is Day 6 for our Holy Land travelers. Dr. Martin describes the emotional journey as they walked in Jesus’ final footsteps and viewed the site of His resurrection. Today was spent inside the walls of Old Jerusalem. I am tired and overwhelmed spiritually and emotionally. I can only eat so much chocolate pie, and I am going to need the rest of my life to ponder and absorb what I have experienced and seen in this one day. We entered in through the Lion's Gate and visited the Western Wall. We were allowed to spend time watching and praying. I did some of both, acutely aware that I was in a site more sacred than words can describe. There were several Bar Mitzvah celebrations happening throughout the area -- and I do mean celebrations. The blowing of horns and beating of drums as young Jewish boys carried the Holy Scriptures in scrolls wrapped in sacred coverings. Young girls and boys were throwing candy at each other. It was a mixture of sacred and secular without a hint of scolding. Everyone seemed thr ...

A few words about my trip to Israel. Feb 9. Flight via Riga, and landed in Ben Gourion airpoirt at 4 p.m., contrary to my expectations immigratios procedures were painless, 10 mins later I was in a sheerut (collective taxi) and 35 mins later I was walking down towards Damascus Gate next to my hotel in the muslim area of the old city. It was end of Shabbat, quick I made my way to the Western Wall and witnessed one of the most intense religions scenes I have seen since Varanasi, India, hundreds of men all clad in black, and wearing huge fur hats, all 'rocking' back and forth, praying and knocking their forehead against the wall. I am in Israel.at last. Day 2 was very special. I started with the Via Dolorosa, saw first the place where the Virgin was born (now a French church), and followed the stations of the cross, indtil the Holy Sepulchre, where hundreds of pilgrims congregate, touch the holy stones, rub them with oil... Jerusalem Jerusalem is the most-visited city with 3.5 million tourist arrivals annually. One of the oldest cities in the world, it is the capital[i], and largest city of Israel if the area and population of occupied East Jerusalem are included. It is a holy city to the three major Abrahamic religions-Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and hosts a myriad of historical, archaeological, religious and sundry other attractions. East Jerusalem was captured by Israel in the 1967 Six-day War and is recognized by the international community as being under Israeli occupation. It is the location of: The Old City of Jerusalem, traditionally divided into four quarters: Armenian Quarter, Christian Quarter, Muslim Quarter and Jewish Quarter. Most importantly, the Temple Mount (known in Arabic as Haram ash-sharīf, the Noble Sanctuary), site of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem with only the Western Wall at its foot remaining, and now with the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Spring, the beautiful season of resurrection, is just around the corner. Living in these last days, nothing quite epitomizes new life as the restoration of Israel as a nation. The Fig Tree has budded again in our day! This amazing reality of God’s Word coming to pass is celebrated every May 8th. All Israel rejoices this day - when after nearly 2,000 years God’s Word was proven true. This is the day Jerusalem and the Temple Mount were liberated in the victorious six day war in 1967! When one visits the unique land of Israel, it is not just the things one sees that is special – but what one does when there. That is why when hosting a Tour to Israel was first envisioned, my burden and objective was for believers to experience Israel in a current and living way. Being in Israel on Jerusalem Day and seeing literally tens of thousands of flag waving Israelis celebrating in the streets and at the Western Wall, is one of many unforgettable events we’d like for you to experience. A question concerning the name of the gates came up and the answer is stated below for your information: Jerusalem’s Old City walls, built in the early 16th century by the Turkish Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, have eight gates. All but one (the Gate of Mercy) still serve Jerusalemites and visitors streaming to its markets, and sacred and historic sites. Below is a thumbnail description of the gates, counter-clockwise from south to west: The Zion Gate: Bearing Jerusalem’s earliest biblical name in Hebrew and English, this gate’s Arabic name is the Gate of the Prophet David, as the Tomb of King David, on adjacent Mount Zion, is only a few steps away. Zion Gate leads directly to the Armenian and Jewish quarters. The Dung Gate: This gate’s unusual name derives from the refuse dumped here in antiquity, where the prevailing winds would carry odors away. Nehemiah 2:13 mentions a Dung Gate that was probably near this one. This gate leads directly to the Western Wall and the Southern Wall Archaeologica ...
Interesting fact of the day on from yesterday`s riveting fact,,,Although one of Jerusalem`s most famous landmarks is generally known here in the west as the Wailing Wall, this name finds no truck with the Jewish community who pray and lament there, they know it as the Western Wall and most feel insulted by a nickname they feel denegrates the emotions expressed there, Jarusalem`s religious significance and its location in the Middle East had great influence on early mapmakers, funded mainly by the church cartographers wisely placed Jarusalem at the centre of their maps believing this place to be the centre of the world, (we now know that Skegness is the centre of the known Universe),, all other cities and countries were placed around Jarusalem, the east became known as the Orient ( meaning rising) which led to the word orientation, spiritually speaking everything went sort of down hill the further west you went which led to those lands being referred to as the Occident, the land of the falling away, now k ...

Only two more days left in our visit to Israel. It's been a wonderful 2 weeks. Lots and lots of awesome family time, wonderful visits with old friends, the unequaled experience of walking through Jerusalem and the Old City, praying at the Kotel (Western Wall).and eating at far too many restaurants! 5. Religious significance Jerusalem has been sacred to Judaism for roughly 3000 years, to Christianity for around 2000 years, and to Islam for approximately 1400 years. The 2000 Statistical Yearbook of Jerusalem lists 1204 synagogues, 158 churches, and 73 mosques within the city. Despite efforts to maintain peaceful religious coexistence, some sites, such as the Temple Mount, have been a continuous source of friction and controversy. Jerusalem has been sacred to the Jews since King David proclaimed it his capital in the 10th century BCE. Jerusalem was the site of Solomon's Temple and the Second Temple. Although not mentioned in the Torah / Pentateuch, it is mentioned in the Bible 632 times. Today, the Western Wall, a remnant of the wall surrounding the Second Temple, is a Jewish holy site second only to the Holy of Holies on the Temple Mount itself. Synagogues around the world are traditionally built with the Holy Ark facing Jerusalem, and Arks within Jerusalem face the "Holy of Holies". As prescribed in ...

4. Etymology Jews may often be seen sitting for hours at the Wailing-place bent in sorrowful meditation over the history of their race, and repeating often times the words of the Seventy-ninth Psalm. On Fridays especially, Jews of both genders, of all ages, and from all countries, assemble in large numbers to kiss the sacred stones and weep outside the precincts they may not enter. 1881. Early Jewish texts referred to a “western wall of the Temple”, but there is doubt whether the texts were referring to today’s Western Wall or to another wall which stood within the Temple complex. The earliest clear Jewish use of the term Western Wall as referring to the wall visible today was by the 11th-century Ahimaaz ben Paltiel. The name “Wailing Wall”, and descriptions such as "wailing place" appeared regularly in English literature during the 19th century. The name Mur des Lamentations was used in French and Klagemauer in German. This term itself was a translation of the Arabic el-Mabka, or "Place of Weep ...
The Prayer of an Atheist Here is a true story about a young man who got his prayers answered: Many people who visit Jerusalem are tourists who come to get a sense of Jewish culture and history. One day, a young tourist named Jeff was brought in to meet me at Aish HaTorah. "What are you doing?" I asked him. "I'm working for my MBA at Harvard University. And I'm an atheist." "Fantastic! A real atheist! Whoever was able to convince an atheist like you to speak to a rabbi like me deserves a medal." "Nah," Jeff says, "he doesn't deserve anything. I'll tell you how I came..." Jeff had been in Norway, visiting his Norwegian fiance. And he decided it was now or never: either he is going to come to Israel or he'll never make it. So he headed for Jerusalem and the Western Wall. He figured he would stop by the Wall to see some old stones. Yet upon his arrival he was amazed. He felt something heavy. He was moved. Jeff stood before the Wall, and made up an atheist's prayer. He looked at the stones and said: "God, I do ...
Can Natan Sharansky fix the Western Wall? Woman and the Western Wall By Ben Sales Tel Aviv (JTA) -- He brought unprecedented attention to the plight of Soviet Jewry. He stood up to the KGB. He survived nine years in Siberia. He served in Israel’s fractious government. Now, Natan Sharansky is facing his next challenge: finding a solution to the growing battle over women’s prayer restrictions at the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site. In recent months, Diaspora Jewish activists have grown increasingly incensed by the arrests and detention of women seeking to pray publicly at the site in keeping with their religious practices – but in violation of the rules of the wall under which women may not sing aloud, wear tallit prayer shawls or read from the Torah. The controversy threatens to drive a wedge between Diaspora Jewry, where egalitarian prayer is common, and Israel, which has upheld Orthodox rules at the wall, also known as the Kotel. American Jewish leaders in the United States say the rules ali ...
Up and down day: Somehow I got sick before Israel, during Israel and on the way back: I got sick again! Major congestion, stuffy head. What made me feel better? The guy who runs Ellen DeGeneres' TV company wants one of my sitcom ideas to develop into a series. My POV on these things: be flattered before you get flattened. So last week it was Christie Brinkley and now Ellen. Hey maybe that Western Wall works! Time for bed...humility and humidifying.

A Diaspora campaign, promoted by the NY Times, is pressuring Netanyahu to consider a radical change in traditional Jewish customs held for generations at the Western Wall, known as the Kotel in Hebrew, and and allow women to pray with men’s religious prayer shawls there. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has stepped in to ask Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky “to study the issue and suggest ways to make the site more accommodating to all Jews,” New York Times new Jerusalem bureau chief Judi Rudoren wrote Wednesday. “The Prime Minister thinks the Western Wall has to be a site that expresses the unity of the Jewish people, both inside Israel and outside the state of Israel,” Netanyahu’s senior adviser Ron Dermer told her. “He wants to preserve the unity of world Jewry. This is an important component of Israel’s strength.” A woman who prays regularly at the site responded to Arutz Sheva, saying that the Prime Minister did not define what "accommodating to all Jews" might entail, but .. ...

Jerusalem is the Venice of God - Yehuda Amichai Jerusalem a port on the shore of eternity. The Temple Mount a huge ship, luxury cruise liner. From the portholes of her Western Wall peer jolly Saints, the passengers. Hasids on the platform wave Goodbye, shout hurray see you. The ship Always arrives, always sails off. And the fences and piers And the police and the banners and the tall masts of churches And the mosques and the smokestacks of synagogues and the boats Of praise and the waves of mountains. Voice of the Shofar is heard: one More sailed off. Yom Kippur sailors in white uniforms Scale ladders and ropes of tested prayers. And the give and take and the gates and the golden domes: Jerusalem is the Venice of God.

That's utterly disgusting and ridiculous. Judaism and the Western Wall are not only for men or the ultra Orthodox.
Despite arrests, attacks, group of Israeli women seeks to pray their way at the Western Wall
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli security guards at the Western Wall on Friday searched women worshippers arriving at the holiest place where Jews can pray for a seemingly inoffensive object — the Jewish prayer shawl, which under the Orthodox tradition can be worn only by men. Once the shawls were found, dozens of women had to deposit them before proceeding to pray in the section reserved for women. A few, who managed to sneak the shawls in under their coats and wrapped them around their shoulders, were promptly evicted or detained. Similar scenes have played out almost a dozen times every year since the group known as Women of the Wall was first established nearly 25 years ago. Its members have endured arrests, heckling and legal battles in a struggle to attain what they consider their inalienable right — to pray and worship at the Western Wall like men do. Under Israel’s predominantly Orthodox Jewish tradition, only men may wear a prayer shawl, a skullcap and phylacteries. Liberal Reform Judaism, margin ...

The IDF Widows and Orphans Organization,a non-profit organization registered in Israel in 1991, is the sole organization recognized by the State of Israel, representing the widows and orphans of Israel’s fallen soldiers. The organization's goal is to provide social, emotional and financial support to widows and orphans who have suffered the greatest loss: that of a husband and father. With that horrible knock on the door, the world collapses around the new widows and orphan s, who then need to gather all their strength to go on living. This is where the IDFWO steps in. Our projects: Education scholarships for orphans (for academic or vocational training) Annual summer camp in the United States – designed to strengthen the bonds between our children and Jewish American children Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration, including a visit to the President's Residence, ceremony at the Western Wall and more Mazal Tov wedding gift for orphans Special event honoring IDF orphans enlisting in the army or national service M ...

J'lem to rebuild iconic synagogue destroyed in 1948 By MELANIE LIDMAN11/28/2012 17:39Anonymous donor donates money to rebuild Tifereth Israel, located near Western Wall. PHOTO: TIFERETH ISRAEL ARCHIVES The Jerusalem Municipality awarded initial approval to a plan to rebuild the Tiferet Israel synagogue in the Old City’s Jewish Quarter, a magnificent domed synagogue from the 19th century which was destroyed in the 1948 War of Independence. The project will recreate the three-story-tall synagogue as well as the iconic dome on the top, with only minor changes to the original, such as the introduction of an elevator to make the building more accessible. On Tuesday, the municipality’s Local Planning and Building Committee approved the plan for the next step of the process, where it must receive the approval of the Interior Ministry. An anonymous donor who has been active in previous rebuilding projects in the Old City donated nearly NIS 50 million needed for reconstruction, said Shlomi Attias, the Old City ...
Ultra-Orthodox control of the Western Wall is an outrage! They exclude most North American Jews from worship at our holiest shrine. Protest!
Holy fire, God is an all cosuming fire, John the baptist said that Yeshua would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire, Nicky Cruz wrote a book called Holy Fire, Dr Michael L Brown ministry is called Fire School of Ministry and his radio show is called The Line of Fire, the Jewish Yeshiva in Jerusalem at the Western Wall is called Esh HaTorah (fire of Torah). This is a good fire, like light, like love, like the Spirit of God that was on the music of David the ancient worshiper and king in that order of the ancient Jewish nation. It was fire that protected Elijah from Jezebel and her military, the angels are descibed as flames of fire, this holy divine fire of the Spirit of God Almighty engulfs you like a full submersion water baptism so that it is fulfilled the words of John the water baptizer, that Yeshua, baptizes all who ask and seek, this full immersion baptism into the Spirit and fire of God the Eternal One!

Character has been defined as personal conduct and values put into practice when no one is watching. I have always believed that Barack Obama is a sincere and sensitive person of character and intellect, high moral values, honesty and integrity. Multitudes of people around the nation and around the world hold the same sentiment. This is the basis for his likeability as a human being nationally and internationally. There was an incident involving Obama that took place in 2008 which confirmed my beliefs. In 2008 during the presidential campaign, candidate Obama visited Israel. While in Jerusalem he went to the Western Wall. It is a tradition for the millions of visitors to the Western Wall, one of the holiest locations in Judaism, to place inside the cracks in the stone written prayers or requests to God. The rabbi in charge of the wall collects the notes periodically and buries them on the Mount of Olives. Following this tradition, Obama wrote his private prayer request on a piece of paper and inserted it ...
Hello America, I’ve been telling you for months that we are facing the most critical election of our lifetime. I truly believe that America will be drastically changed by the choice we all make today in the voting booth. We can either get four more years of big government progressivism (and don’t forget he doesn’t have to worry about re-election this time), or we can get someone in office who might just start to turn things around. So much has changed in the past four years. When I look back at everything that has happened and how my life and our country has changed…well, the one constant has been that we have always been together. In Washington, DC at the Lincoln Memorial. In Israel next to the Western Wall. In Dallas, TX just a few months ago at Cowboys Stadium. You’ve been with me in more states than I can count, on three different networks and literally on the other side of the world. I hope you’ll join me, and the entire team at TheBlaze, on this historic night. But I really want to tell ...

Even with three leaders detained by police, we continue our prayer at the Kotel. We will not be intimidated. We will continue to demand equality and religious freedom

The Shri Mahalakshmi Temple of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, India, is one of the Shakti Peethas listed in various puranas of Hinduism. According to these writings, a Shakti Peetha is a place associated with Shakti, the goddess of power. The Kolhapur Shakti Peetha is of special religious significance being one of the six places where it is believed that one can either obtain salvation from desires or have them fulfilled. The temple takes its name from Mahalakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, and it is believed that the divine couple reside in the area. The temple belongs architecturally to the Kannada Chalukya empire and may have been first built in circa 700 AD. Mounted on a stone platform, the image of the four armed and crowned goddess is made of gemstone and weighs about 40 kilograms. The image of Mahalakshmi carved in black stone is 3 feet in height. The Shri Yantra is carved on one of the walls in the temple. A stone lion, the vahana of the goddess, stands behind the statue. The crown contains an image of the ...

Saw the Dead Sea scrolls at The Franklin Institute. Seeing a fragment from the Book of Enoch was worth the trip, as was seeing a single stone from the Western Wall. Of course, Isaiah, and Psalms fragments were also worth seeing. Lots of other great artifacts as well, including ostuaries, shekels, various pieces of earthernware, royal signets, and various other pieces of interest. What wasn't good about the trip was the parking meters only allowing 2 hours, which meant going through the exhibit at a quicker pace than desired.
