2 my surprise Western Isles is just the Outer Hebrides after a quick google, Inner Hebrides also known as Southern Hebrides
I've been able to spend almost a month recently on the Western Isles. Awesome is the only way to describe the Outer Hebrides. Only negatives - Being on the wrong Island when the long tailed skua passage started, the Harlequin Duck going missing (it reappeared a couple of days ago) and a Snowy Owl; same storey as the Long tails. The potential for finding your own birds is massive; I only saw other birders at two locations. The scenery is stunning, the farming low intensive (Singing Corn Buntings, I'd almost forgotten what they're like) and a friendly welcome everywhere.
I'm watching a Martin Clunes prog about the Western Isles of GB. It's making me want to go back to the Outer Hebrides.
As we reported via the website in full detail, in July 2011 Cape Farewell embarked on its biggest project to date, in partnership with Cove Park: a month-long expedition by boat across the Scottish islands from Oban across the Western Isles of Scotland to Lewis. It was a life changing experience for Julie to voyage around the Outer Hebrides with such a dynamic crew, and to spend time in St Kilda and The Monach Islands especially. During the trip, 2 superb atmospheric and haunting videos were shot by the expedition’s Matt Wainwright, of Julie performing one song (‘Fraoch à Rònaigh’) and one tune on the whistle (‘Three Island Reels’). Totally unaccompanied (apart from the sound of the sea!) and with the superb natural acoustics of a cave as her venue, you can view them now by visiting Julie’s YouTube Channel (just a click on the YouTube icon at the top right of the website pages – via the link below) and you will find them both as the first 2 featured videos. We hope you enjoy them!!
