West Point Stonewall Jackson Robert E. He was known to his friends as "Jeb", from the initials of his given names. Stuart was a cavalry commander known for his mastery of reconnaissance and the use of cavalry in support of offensive operations. While he cultivated a cavalier image (red-lined gray cape, yellow sash, hat cocked to the side with an ostrich plume, red flower in his lapel, often sporting cologne), his serious work made him the trusted eyes and ears of Robert E. Lee's army and inspired Southern morale. Stuart graduated from West Point in 1854 and served in Texas and Kansas with the U.S. Army, a veteran of the frontier conflicts with Native Americans and the violence of Bleeding Kansas. He participated in the capture of John Brown at Harpers Ferry. Resigning when his home state of Virginia seceded, he served first under Stonewall Jackson in the Shena ...
![]() Robert E. Lee was born on January 19, 1807 at Stratford, Westmoreland County, Virginia and Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia. General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson is considered by Military historians as one of the most gifted tactical commanders in United States history. He was General Robert E. Lee’s right hand during many battles and…. When Stonewall Jackson passed away, General Robert E Lee was quoted as saying "Jackson has lost his left arm, but I have lost my right". Lee graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1829, second in his class and without a single demerit and Jackson graduated from West Point in 1946, 17th in a class of 59 students. Robert E. Lee wed Mary Anna Randolph Curtis in June 1831 and Stonewall Jackson married twice. ![]() Waiting for Gov. Romney's speech on foreign policy at Virginia Military Institute, known as "the West Point of the South." VMI is 1 of 6 senior military schools in the U.S. Unlike West Point (and other federal govt-sponsored colleges), grads do NOT have to join the military. Gen. Stonewall Jackson (War of 1812 fame) taught there and fGen. George C. Marshall (Marshall Plan) attended. Marshall became a 5star general and, so far. is the ONLY career military person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize. VMI campus is incredibly beautiful (as is Virginia). The college prides itself on the "spartan" existence and "self-discipliined" lifestyle of cadets. It has and has had students from all races and from many countries attend. In 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court in a 7-1 decision said VMI had to admit women and in 1998, women began attending. (Justice Clarence Thomas of the SCOTUS didn't vote since his son attended VMI at the time).
![]() Today, 2nd Lt. David Rylander, 23, and a 2011 graduate of West Point, was laid to rest, after being KIA on May 2. Please pray for his family during this time of tremendous loss, and that they will be comforted in knowing David received the ultimate promotion, and is now face to face with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in whom he has put his faith. And anyone who does the same will see him again!! He is now among fellow warriors, Paul, Peter, Gen Douglas MacArthur, George Washington, Stonewall Jackson, and countless others. Our loss, his gain. "NO greater love than this, than to lay down your life for a friend."
