Peck has been booted out of a number of California counties because of her animal hoarding including Los Angeles, Burbank, Kern County, San Bernardino. In the past year, Kimi Peck was booted out of Weld County, Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Also in 2014, Peck was forced to surrender over 50 neglected dogs and puppies (born on Peck's watch) to Cheyenne authorities and Weld County charged Kimi Peck with animal cruelty. From there, it will travel to WCR 60.5 then head south on Highway 85 to WCR 22. Cooperation among Weld County, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado State Patrol helped identify the safest route for this haul with regard to the traveling public and to identify county infrastructure strong enough to handle the 1.2 million pound load. Environment Colorado faces oil boom "death sentence" for soil, eyes microbe fix By Bruce Finley; The Denver Post - POSTED: 05/04/2014 A pair of nesting bald eagles watch night fall last month within sight of an oil pump in Weld County, the heart of Colorado's oil and gas boom. (Karl Gehring, The Denver Post) Colorado's intensifying oil and gas boom is taking a toll on soil — 200 gallons spilled per day seeping into once-fertile ground — that experts say could be ruinous. The state's approach has been to try to compel companies to excavate and haul the worst muck to landfills. But with support from state regulators, oil companies increasingly are proposing to clean contaminated soil on site using mixing machinery and microbes. This may be cheaper for the industry — and could save and restore soil. But it is not proven. "I'm comfortable with it. It is another example of innovation and opportunity by the oil and gas and service industries," Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission director Matt L . ...

The town of Tipperary, CO, named for the green country around Tipperary, Ireland, was located in Weld County, near the Weld - Morgan County line. Established in 1909, the town began developing with the opening of a post office in 1915. The first and only postmaster of Tipperary, CO. was Albert T. Flood. The same year the post office opened a school was established, giving promise to longevity for the town. Unfortunately, the drought of the late 1920s led to the demise of the town and the town site was abandoned in 1932.

March is Developmental Disability Awareness Month. I have been so blessed to work with the Arc of Weld County in providing education, awareness, and assistance to people with disabilities and their families. People with disabilities want us to focus on their abilities, and see them for who they really are. As Dr. Temple Grandin reminds us, "Not Less, Just Different." Last year I pushed to retire the word "retard" and all its associated hatefulness. Most people just don't realize that the word itself makes people want to cry. This year my focus is educating the public on the sexual abuse of people with disabilities. It is happening at an alarming rate, and we must work to make sure that our friends and family with disabilities are not targeted. Let's agree that this year EVERYONE deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, age, gender, or disability. And to special education teachers out there: Thank you for what you do!

My economic headlines for KGNU from last night: Criticism is growing over Governor Hickenlooper's appointment of Glenn Vaad to the Colorado Public Utilties Commission because of his leadership role in ALEC, the secretive American Legislative Exchange Council that pushes industry-backed legislation. In a Daily Camera letter to the editor, Boulder-based clean energy strategist Cameron Brooks says ALEC is focused on dismantling existing renewable energy laws. A spokesman for the Governor defended the nominee in an email to the Denver Post, pointing to Vaad's support for increasing renewable energy requirements at rural electric cooperatives while he was serving as an elected Republican from the Weld County area. Then again, Vaad received a “Legislator of the Year” award from ALEC in 2012. ALEC paid Vaad so-called scholarships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 while he was in office, according to a report by Common Cause called Buying Influence. Fugitive who left shoe at crime scene arrested SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Federal agents have apprehended a fugitive near San Antonio two years after he left a shoe behind while allegedly trying to storm a Colorado home with others. Mario Andreas Godinez was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Service on a charge of attempted murder. The 20-year-old was being held at the Bexar (bayr) County jail awaiting extradition to Weld County, Colo. Service spokesman Chris Bozeman says Godinez and two others are accused of attempting a 2012 home invasion in Greeley, Colo. When they were unable to get inside, Godinez allegedly shot through the front door. He left behind a shoe when the trio fled in a vehicle. Bozeman says the shoe could be an important part of prosecution efforts. Godinez was arrested at a home outside San Antonio.
Greeley Museums seeking donations to preserve unique historic artifacts: Last week, two fourth-generation Greeley/Weld County residents visited the Greeley History Museum and offered to sell 320 letters from prospective Union Colony colonists, all written in December, 1869, along with a small Bible given to Arvilla Meeker, by her son, Ralph, in 1864. These letters were written in response to an article in The New York Tribune, by Nathan Cook Meeker, Greeley’s founder. Meeker, having visited Colorado Territory in October 1869, returned to his home in Brooklyn, NY with visions of founding a utopian temperance and agricultural colony here. Meeker’s article encouraged those interested in joining this colony venture to write to him and within a month, over 3,000 people wrote letters to Meeker, many ready to jump on the train and “head to Colorado Territory.” In April, 1870, Meeker’s joint-stock colonization company known as the Union Colony, established the town of Greeley, CO. “What a delightfu .. ...

An estimated 1,500 homes are destroyed. Some 1,000 people in Larimer County, north of Boulder, were awaiting airlifts that never came on Sunday — they were called off because of the foul weather. The floods have also triggered other problems that have gotten a lot less media attention: Fracking infrastructure has been inundated and its toxic contents have spilled out. Pipelines that transport fossil fuels are sagging and snapping under pressure. Tanks that store chemicals and polluted water are being overwhelmed and toppling over. Oil and gas wells are flooding. The Boulder Daily Camera reports: Lafayette-based anti-fracking activist Cliff Willmeng said he spent two days “zig-zagging” across Weld and Bould ...
Voters in 11 rural counties in northern Colorado will go the polls Tuesday to decide whether they want to continue living in the 137-year-old state or break off and form their own. Even if a majority of voters in the referendum approve secession, breaking away would be a daunting, perhaps nigh-on-impossible path. A new state would require approval first in the Colorado legislature and then from the U.S. Congress, as laid out by Article IV, Section 3 of the Constitution. But then, that’s not the point. The point, says Sean Conway, is to send a message “to the governor. Send a message to our legislators,” said the commissioner of Weld County, the most populous of the 11 counties seeking to secede. “We’re tired of being ignored, we’re tired of being politically disenfranchised, and if you don’t wake up and you don’t start to change things, you’re going to see more movements like this begin to take a more serious face and move towards creating our own political entity that we believe will pr ...

From the Greeley Tribune. County crews to reopen vital Greeley-Kersey link today Weld County public works officials have reopened a vital route connecting eastern communities into Greeley off of U.S. 34. The county minutes ago opened Weld County Road 58 from Weld 47.5 to the Fern Avenue Bridge, into east 18th Street leading into Greeley. “This is has been our No. 1 priority in the immediate Greeley area to get folks a route from Kersey into Greeley because of the closure of U.S. 34,” said Weld County Commissioner Sean Conway. County road and bridge crews were able to work a miracle, Conway said, in repairing two damaged bridges, building up a crumbled roadway and putting blacktop on this section, which essentially cut off traffic and commerce to farmers, oil and gas workers, and other commuters needing a more direct route into Greeley. U.S. 34 has been closed since the flooding of the South Platte River, which peaked at nine feet above flood level more than a week ago. The rising river washed out an e ...
Colorado flooding has not only overwhelmed roads and homes, but also the oil and gas infrastructure stationed in one of the most densely drilled areas in the U.S. Although oil companies have shut down much of their operations in Weld County due to flooding, nearby locals say an unknown amount of chemicals has leaked out and possibly contaminated waters, mixing fracking fluids and oil along with sewage, gasoline, and agriculture pesticides. “You have 100, if not thousands, of wells underwater right now and we have no idea what those wells are leaking,” East Boulder County United spokesman Cliff Willmeng said Monday. “It’s very clear they are leaking into the floodwaters though.” Photographs shared by East Boulder County United, a Colorado environmental group that opposes hydraulic fracturing, show many tanks have been ruptured and others floating in the flood. At least one pipeline has been confirmed broken and leaking. No one, from oil companies to regulators, seems to know the exact extent of t ...

Driver in triple fatal crash charged with careless driving The accident on U.S. 85 in Colorado left three locals dead after the driver fell asleep at the wheel. By Kelsey Bray kbray-- The local man who was driving during a one-vehicle crash that killed three people last week apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Anthony Alacca, 22, was driving southbound around 5:40 a.m. Thursday with four passengers from Cheyenne on U.S. Highway 85 in Weld County, Colo. He failed to negotiate a curve, and the car went off the roadway, hit an embankment, went airborne and landed on its top. Mariah Motschman, 21, was flown to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo., with serious injuries. She remains in critical condition. A Pensacola, Fla., man who died Wednesday after the motorcycle he was riding went off the road in eastern Weld County has been identified as John Anderson, 52, according to Weld County Coroner Mark Ward. The crash happened about 12:15 p.m. on Colo. 71 at mile marker 224, near the Nebraska state line. Anderson was riding his motorcycle when he went off the right side of the road, down an embankment for more than 120-feet and hit a large rock and metal culvert. He continued across a creek, where he was thrown from his motorcycle, and landed on the south bank of the creek, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Josh Lewis said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet and investigators do not suspect drugs, alcohol or excessive speed as contributing factors in the crash. Lewis said the coroner will determine whether the ...

Greeley, Weld residents fight two well site proposals in city A group of Greeley and Weld County residents are up in arms over a plan to drill a potentially record number of wells on one pad in south Greeley and on another off of U.S. 85. Mineral Resources Inc., a Greeley-based drilling company, received approval from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to locate 67 wells on a pad behind the 23rd Avenue Wal-mart and 37 wells near 16th Street and U.S. 85. Logan Richardson, president of Mineral Resources, said the company’s permit applications with the city will only be for half that number of wells. Todd Hartman, spokesman for the COGCC, confirmed the site locations have been approved, but each well must be permitted individually, a process which Mineral Resources has not yet gone through. Still, Weld Air and Water, a group of about 100 residents that has vocalized concerns over the proposed projects, say the well pads are too close to schools and homes. The south Greeley project is less tha ...

God - the Great Mystery, the Great Beyond - is not a particular being or object of thought. Rather, God is the vastness - the backdrop, the horizon - out of which all particular beings arise. Whenever we try to grasp the Great Mystery, we are immediately pointed to particular creatures instead. For God is innately humble and self-emptying, continually turning our attention away from him and toward the innumerable creatures that are grounded in his love. When we use the term "he" to refer to God, we don't really mean that the Great Mystery is male. Rather, we understand that beyondness and transcendence are masculine traits, just as the corresponding traits of this-hereness and immanence are feminine, ascribable to Sophia Wisdom - to Mother Earth, the Goddess. Ok, friends. I've had enough panic attacks and I'm finally asking for help. I have a couple of big events next week. One of my biggest stresses right now is not having the volunteers that I need, so I'm reaching out to see if anyone is interested in helping. Thursday, March 7th: Taste of Weld County, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Island Grove. This is a fundraiser to benefit Lutheran Family Services. They provide services for Foster/Adoption, Elder Care, Refugee Resettlement, and Family and Parenting Classes. Last year, they absorbed the CARE program as well. I'm on the planning committee and am in charge of the Silent Auction that night. I need 2-3 volunteers to help me man the auction tables to make sure everything stays fair. Time for Boulder to ban fracking By Neshama Abraham Posted: 01/13/2013 01:00:00 AM MST Does the City of Boulder need a ban on fracking? I say yes and here's why. We have 16 wells already in the City of Boulder -- many immediately next to residences and open space areas. These existing wells are likely candidates for fracking to access the valuable hydro-carbons resting about 1,000 feet under our homes, schools and office buildings. Boulder sits on top of a large "shale play" extending as far north to Canada, south into New Mexico and east to Kansas. It is part of the same shale layer with economically-recoverable oil and gas that is actively being fracked in Weld County, where there are more than 19,000 active wells. While you might think, "This is Boulder. No oil and gas operator is going to start fracking here." The fact is they can, and right now we have no legal defense to prevent the oil and gas industry if they chose to frack in our city. It has only been in the past year that the first peer-revie . ...

I feel the same frustration as the P & Z Commission does with the Loveland City Council. You are NOT well informed and you are NOT listening to any of your constituents – and it shows. The relationship between the city staff, council members and the staff of Anadarko is completely inappropriate. They do not live in this area- they should NOT be making the final decisions for our population and our community. The City Attorney and Director of Development said many things last night – they seemed to be wanting to hide the truth on a few issues. That we are in the GWA – Greater Wattenburg Area – and thus groundwater testing will be that of Weld County, and not of the new COGCC rules. Membe ...

Politicians and knee jerk reactions. When a bad event happens politicians must think to themselves "I have to do something, even if it's stupid I have to do something just to prove I am doing something" Of course I'm talking about the gun control bills in the CO legislature. These bills are unenforceable and will do NOTHING for public safety yet will have direr consequences. Magpul a company that makes magazine clips said they will leave CO and take their 200 jobs with them if the ban on high capacity magazines passes at the Capital (and BTW Magpul is a Weld County Company). It doesn't stop there, Lawrence Tool and Molding said they will move at least 38 jobs out of the state (1/2 their workforce) if Magpol leaves plus Alfred Manufacturing will relocate jobs out of state and has placed a $1 million expansion project on hold. After a brief struggle, Gilbert was taken into custody. Taxpayer-backed solar firm under fire after bankruptcy, questions over defective panels Friday, October 26, 2012 Another solar company that received taxpayer support before going bankrupt is facing tough questions from Congress and a criminal investigation --following in the footsteps of solar-panel firm Solyndra. The company facing scrutiny is Abound Solar, based in Longmont, Colo. Colorado's Weld County has launched a securities fraud investigation following allegations that Abound may have misled investors and a bank before securing funds. "Our goal is if crimes were committed to make sure individuals are held accountable," said Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck. It's a stunning turnaround for a company that appeared to be on a roll. In December of 2010, Abound had just secured a $400 million federal loan guarantee. Like Solyndra's more than $500 million loan, it was part of President Obama's green energy stimulus program. Eighteen months later, though, Abound was filing for bankruptcy protection ...

Neo-Nazis at Potato Day, Greeley, Colorado I'm not making this up. I went to 'Potato Day' in Greeley Colorado last Sunday September 16th with my GF and her grandchildren. A beautiful day at a city/county sponsored event and would you believe there were guys and gals dressed up as Nazis with weapons, tents, vehicles and a display of WWII German army and SS stuff. All the other displays and events were children oriented and actually quite nice and enjoyable. And to give credit to the Weld County parents attending the event, few were giving the Nazis any attention at all. I talked to a couple of other adults and they all agreed that the Nazis thing was creepy and disturbing. Over the past 10 years I have measured the state of the economy by what I discover at the Catholic Charities Mission in FoCo where I am a volunteer cook. As the recession goes, so go their larders. Tomato products and baked beans, pasta and rice and cans of soup. There was pancake mix and even cake frosting and sprinkles!
