A man can know the facts of the Gospel. He cam agree with them. He can even desire to be saved by Christ, but none of this constitutes saving faith. That only occurs when I make a decision of my will to depend on the person Jesus for forgiveness of sin and eternal life with God. - Wayne Grudem.

What the Christian Right Gets Wrong About Sin. In the latest volley of the Christian culture wars, dozens of prominent conservative Christian leaders -- including Rick Warren, Ravi Zacharias, and Wayne Grudem -- have filed an amicus brief supporting Hobby Lobby in the ongoing battle over contraception. Much ink has already been spilled in this battle -- about contraception, religious liberty, freedom of choice -- and I have no interest in arguing those topics that many others have already addressed. But I do believe this brief offers us a glimpse at one of the flawed premises driving our ongoing culture wars. In addition to citing theologies of vocation and freedom of religion, the document argues: "Christian doctrine states it is a sin for a Christian to enable or aid another in doing what the Christian believes to be sin. " (Hobby Lobby Brief, p. 26) Several passages are cited in support of this doctrine: 1 Cor. 8:9-13 (don't wound your brother's conscience); Rom. 14:13-14 (don't be a stumbling block), ...

What I have been reading. Really good sections here about the millennium reign of Christ from Wayne Grudems Systematic Theology. Second paragraph is fantastic but need first paragraph to get context. “During the church age, the good purposes of God are primarily seen in individual lives and the blessings that come to those who believe in Christ. To some extent now … this affects civil government and educational institutions and corporations, and to a larger extend it affects the family. But in none of these structures are God’s good purposes manifested to the extent they could be, showing God’s great wisdom and goodness not only in his plans for individuals but also for societal structures. In the millennium the beauty of God’s wisdom will show forth to his glory from all of these societal structures. Moreover, the millennium will further vindicate God’s righteousness. The fact that some continue in sin and unbelief will show that ‘sin rebellion against God is not due to an evil society ...

This page is not intended to be an evangelistic page, nor does it function as a vehicle for Christian apologetics. My evangelistic and apologetics outlets have other places dedicated to those functions. Everyone is welcome on this page and I enjoy diversity of opinion. My intention for this page is simply to demonstrate how Christianity and classical liberal political philosophy can be compatible. My views do not in any way represent all Christians, and, as a matter of fact, may actually run counter to many other Christians. In order for readers to better understand my presuppositions and worldview, I will provide some insight. In terms of Christianity, I hold to a Calvinist or Reformed theology. Marketplace Justice In Ezekiel's vision of the new temple there is an allotment of land adjacent to the holy district reserved for the prince. God stipulates that the prince is to maintain within his portion just balances and measures. This underscores the close relationship between holiness and right living that we see repeatedly throughout the Prophets. Evangelical theologian Wayne Grudem writes as follows regarding the attitudes of our hearts as we engage in business endeavors: The Ten Commandments end with a reminder that God is concerned not only with our actions but also with our attitudes of heart, for God says, 'You shall not covet! anything that belongs to your neighbor' (Ex 20:17)! In every aspect of business activity, God knows our hearts, and we must glorify him by having attitudes of heart in which he delights. 'May the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer' (Ps 19:14). 'He knows the secrets of the heart' (Ps 44:21; see also ...
"As long as we are in this life, and as long as we see and think about others who need to hear the gospel and trust in Christ for salvation, it should cause us great distress and agony of spirit to think about eternal punishment. Yet we must realize that whatever God in his wisdom has ordained and taught in Scripture is right...we should also long that even those people who most severely persecute the church should come to faith in Christ and thus escape eternal condemnation." - Wayne Grudem "Systematic Theology"
1. Martin Chemnitz, a follower of Martin Luther, described the incarnation in this way: “The Son of God in the fullness of time joined to Himself in a perpetual union which shall not be dissolved for all eternity, a human nature, true, completely, entire, of the same substance of ours, possessing a body and a rational soul which contain within themselves all the conditions, desires, powers, and faculties proper to and characteristic of human nature. This nature is pure, without sin, incorrupt and holy, yet in it are all the infirmities which have befallen our nature as the penalties of sin. This he willingly and without imperfection assumed at the time of His humiliation, for our sakes, that He might be made the victim for us.” Martin Chemnitz, The Two Natures in Christ, trans. J. A. O. "It was not until 1546 at the Council of Trent, that the Roman Catholic Church officially declared the Apocrypha to be part of the canon (with the exception of 1 and 2 Esdras and the Prayer of Manasseh). It is significant to note that the Council of Trent was the response of the Roman Catholic Church to the teachings of Martin Luther and the rapidly spreading Protestant Reformation, and the books of the Apocrypha contain support for the Catholic teaching of prayers for the dead and justification by faith plus works, not by faith alone" - Systematic Theology, by Wayne Grudem
Reading the Bible properly... Everything most importantly the Bible needs to be read from the eyes of the writer. This requires us to make every effort to read it from it's 'genre' is it poetry, historical, psalms/songs, proverbs/wisdom literature, narrative, epistle/letters etc. and it's 'original historical and cultural context.' Before it ever said anything to 21st century American's arguing over mobile devices from positions of privileged warmth and comfort costing many of them no sacrifice, it first was written to its original hearers like Hebrew speaking Israelites and various Gentiles living in desert tents, lean-to's and huts w/o running water, electricity, AC, grocery stores etc. under constant threats of war, famine, drought and disease. Having done this We can then apply the lesson being taught to our own lives today. It does not change what the Bible says, it reinforces it and will embolden the modern disciples' confidence and love of Jesus and our story. The bad news is too many pastors seem ...
So John MacArthur claims that Charismatic's are unsaved. I wonder what John Piper, Wayne Grudem, and CJ Mahaney, have to say about that.
"The fact that we do not know everything requires us to be uncertain about everything we do claim to know. This is because some fact unknown to us may yet turn out to prove that what we thought to be true was actually false. However, God knows all facts that ever have been or ever will be. And this God, who never lies, has spoken to us in Scripture, in which he has to us many true things about himself, about ourselves, and about the universe he has made. No fact can ever turn up to contradict the truth spoken by this One who is omniscient." Wayne Grudem, Bible Doctrine.
"Christians instinctively long to be in an assembly of God's people where they can focus their attention on God long enough that their eyes and minds and hearts are aware of nothing but his presence, where their voices are singing his praise (or perhaps silent in his presence), and where they are free to feel the intensity of their love for him and to sense in their spirits that God is there, delighting in the praises of his children. That is what Christians today really long for. They long to come to church and be allowed to worship and pray until they sense in their spirits that they are in the manifest presence of God." - Wayne Grudem

This is a good answer to John MacArthur's criticism of the charismatic movement. Thanks so much, Dr. Michael Brown. * A Great Big Blind Spot 6:00AM EST 12/16/2013 MICHAEL BROWN Michael Brown On Oct. 24, I began to write a new book entitled Authentic Fire: A Response to John MacArthur’s Strange Fire. By God’s grace, three weeks (and more than 400 pages) later, with contributions from Craig Keener and Sam Storms and others, the book was completed and is now available as an e-book. In the next few articles, I’ll share some of the key contents of the book with the hope that this will help deepen our hunger for God’s truth and God’s Spirit. Here, I’ll focus on Chapter 3 of Authentic Fire, entitled “A Great Big Blind Spot,” where I examine Pastor MacArthur’s claims that: 1. “The charismatic movement as such has made no contribution to biblical clarity, no contribution to interpretation, no contribution to sound doctrine.” 2. “People who have any connection to Judaism and Christianity h . ...
“The virgin birth of Christ is an unmistakable reminder that salvation can never come through human effort, but must be the work of God Himself” – Wayne Grudem
".That is the way that many women (and men) today think of freedom. They judge it on the basis of immediate sensations of unrestrained license or independence. But true freedom takes God's reality and God's purpose for creation into account and seeks to fit smoothly into God's good design. Freedom does include doing what we want to do. But the mature and wise woman does not seek this freedom by bending reality to fit her desires. She seeks it by being transformed in the renewal of her desires to fit in with God's perfect will. The greatest freedom is found in being so changed by God's spirit that you can do with you love to do and know that it conforms to the design of God and leads to life and glory." Recovering biblical manhood and womanhood -John Piper, Wayne Grudem
The Unlying God It is impossible for God to lie. Hebrews 6:18 Recommended Reading Hebrews 6:13-20 In his book of theology, Wayne Grudem writes, "With respect to His promises, God always does what He promises to do, and we can depend on Him never to be unfaithful to His promises. Thus, He is a God of faithfulness...In fact, this specific aspect of God's truthfulness is sometimes viewed as a distinct attribute: God's faithfulness means that God will always do what He has said and fulfill what He has promised...He can be relied upon, and He will never prove unfaithful to those who trust what He has said. Indeed, the essence of true faith is taking God at His word and relying on Him to do as He has promised."1 Among our friends, we have none who is fully trustworthy. Given enough time and the right circumstances, even our dearest loved ones may fail us in some way. But our Lord will never fail, never lie, never disappoint, never betray, never double-cross, never mislead, never forget, or let us down. ...
Is it weird if I get Jon Gruden and Wayne Grudem confused every once in a while?
During Christmas many will ponder on the Virgin Birth of Jesus. Did it really happen? What was the purpose? Is the Virgin Birth of Jesus a necessary doctrine? Although the Hebrew word in Isaiah 7:14 can refer to a young woman of marriageable age, the meaning of Matthew's use of the term "virgin" in Matthew 1:23 is understood by the context of the Nativity story. Both in Matthew 1:18, 20 and in Luke 1:34-35 the Birth of Jesus is explicitly supernatural. Jesus was conceived by the power of the Most High. There are many reasons for the doctrinal importance of the Virgin Birth. Wayne Grudem in his Systematic Theology gives various reasons. First, it shows that Salvation is a work of God, not man. Second, the Virgin Birth made possible "the uniting of full deity and full humanity in one person.” And third, the Virgin Birth protected the Christ Child from inheriting sin. There is much more here, but if we believe God to be Creator of the Universe, the Virgin Birth of Jesus can also be believed. Even more, the ...

Good suggestion by my friend Greg Cowen, in your status line list 10 books that have impacted you or stayed with you in some way... Here's my list (not including the Bible, which is obviously the single most impacting on my life; also I cheated and listed 20 (sorry) as I've been doing a lot of reading in the past 10 years and have had many influential books): Trusting God (Jerry Bridges) Money, Possessions, and Eternity (Randy Alcorn) Not a Fan (Kyle Idleman) A Mind of Its Own: How Your Brain Distorts and Deceives (Cordelia Fine) Shepherding a Child's Heart (Tedd Tripp) The Discipline of Grace (Jerry Bridges) This Present Darkness (Frank Peretti - fiction) Why We're Not Emergent: By Two Guys Who Should Be (Kevin DeYoung, Ted Kluck) Deadline (Randy Alcorn - fiction) Follow Me (David Platt) Placebo (Howard Pittman) The Chronicles of Narnia (CS Lewis - fiction) The Problem of Pain (CS Lewis) The Myth of Certainty (Daniel Taylor) Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (Grudem, et al) Systematic Theology .. ...
Name ten books you've read that stayed with you. Tag ten of your friends, including me, so I can see your list. Maybe we can discover some great new books this way. These aren't necessarily my favorites, but they all made a big impression. In no particular order (other than the first one): 1. “The Bible” – GOD, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to almost 40 different authors 2. “Total Money Makeover” – Dave Ramsey (best book on money ever) 3. “Tell the Truth” – Will Metzger (best book on evangelism I have ever read) 4. “Father, Son, Holy Spirit” – Bruce Ware (best book on the Trinity and how it applies to us) 5. “Systematic Theology” – Wayne Grudem (Best comprehensive book on theology I have owned) 6. “Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus” – Elyse Fitzpatric and Jessica Thompson (Best book I have read on raising children by biblical methods. VERY PRACTICAL) 7. “Spiritual Discipline for the Christian Life” – Donald Whitney (T ...
If we ultimately appeal to human reason, or to logic, or to historical accuracy, or to scientific truth, as the authority by which the Scripture is shown to be God's words, then we have assumed the thing to which we appealed to be a higher authority than God's words and one that is more true or more reliable. - Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology I would add that, as far as I'm concerned, the same applies to appealing to those same things to prove the existence of God.

How can a nation overcome poverty? Theologian Wayne Grudem lists ten cultural values that are key to prosperity of society.
“A man protects his family. To borrow an illustration from John Piper and Wayne Grudem on the essence of masculinity: When you are lying in bed with your wife, and you hear the sound of a window being opened in your kitchen at 3:00 a.m., do you shake her awake and say, “The last time this occurred, I was the one who took our baseball bat and investigated to see if someone was breaking into our house. Now it’s your turn, sweetheart. Here’s the bat!”?6 No! That’s when the man gets up.” Excerpt From: Rainey, Dennis. “Stepping Up.” Family Life. iBooks. This material may be protected by copyright.

Q. Your Case books have helped me immensely. I considered myself a Christian back in my teens but left the faith for thirty years. The recent death of my ex-boyfriend, who was a Christian, knocked me to my knees and I found my grief unbearable. I turned to Jesus again and become a genuine Christian, I’m happy to say. But I’d like to know what has happened to my friend since he passed away from cancer. I know that he is in heaven, but I’m unclear on the details. For example, does he see us now? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. — Lisa A (by Lee Strobel). Thanks so much for writing, Lisa. I’m so sorry about the loss of your former boyfriend, though I’m grateful he was a follower of Jesus and that you’re now part of God’s family. Your grief at the death of your friend is understandable — and don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t experience heartbreak at the death of a Christian. Said theologian Wayne Grudem in his book Systematic Theology: “It is not wrong to e ...

Grudem surveys the Bible and its implications for involvement in governmental affairs. We hope to see many of you at this excellent opportunity!
Wednesday, January 9, 2013 Liberty Institute Weighs in on Important Supreme Court Case IN THE PUBLIC ARENA On January 7, Liberty Institute submitted a brief to the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of distinguished Christian theologians and scholars, supporting a request for the High Court to hear a crucial religious freedom case. Liberty filed the friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of Dr. Mark Bailey, Dr. Darrell Bock, Dr. Stephen Evans, Dr. Wayne Grudem, Dr. Wayne House, Dr. Peter Lillback, Dr. Albert Mohler, Jr., Fr. Ray Ryland, and Michael Thigpen. The theologians seek to overturn a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in the case Galloway v. Town of Greece, which declared the town’s legislative prayers unconstitutional because they were not religiously diverse. Americans United for Separation of Church and State originally appealed the case to the Second Circuit on behalf of two individuals who objected to the prayers. “Americans have every right under the Constitution to pray p ...
"On occassion God speaks to His servants in an audible voice. Clearly these are His very words that may be reported with 100 percent accuracy.Additionally, open visions of the spiritual realm or of future events are familiar modes of communications to those who move in the prophetic realm wth a remarkable degree of accuracy."- Mike Bickle "If NT prophets today, for example, spoke words that we knew were the very words of God, then these words would be equal to Scripture in authority, and we would be obligated to write them down and add them to our Bibles whenever we heard them. But if we are convinced that God stopped causing Scripture to be written when the book of Revelation was completed, then we have to say that this kind of speech, uttering the very words of God, cannot happen today. And any claims to have new Scripture, new words from God, must be rejected as false."- Wayne Grudem

"Our justification from sins takes place at the point of saving faith, not at the point of water baptism, which usually occurs later. But if a person is already justified and has sins forgiven eternally at the point of saving faith, then baptism is not necessary for forgiveness of sins nor for the bestowal of new spiritual life. Baptism, then, is not necessary for salvation. But it is necessary if we are to be obedient to Christ, for he commanded baptism for all who believe in him."- Wayne Grudem
