Stuart Lancaster is curious to find out how Warren Gatland has turned around the fortunes of the Welsh team so quickly, so he decides to go to Cardiff and see how Gatland coaches his team. After a day he is not really impressed by the training routines so he asks Gatland how he manages to get his players so sharp. "Well it is simple. I sometimes ask my players a difficult question, and that way they stay really sharp mentally". Of course Stuart wants an example, so Warren asks Mike Phillips to come over to the touchline. Warren asks him: "Mike, answer this question…..he is not your brother, but still he is your father's son. Who is he?". "That's easy", Mike answers immediately, "Of course, it's me". "You see? That's the way you keep them sharp", Gatland says to Lancaster. Lancaster, keen to take this on board decides to bring this into the next England squad session. He calls Owen Farrell over to the touchline. “Owen, answer this question”, he says, “He is not your brother, but he is still your fa ...

After 4 years of anticipation, the British and Irish Lions are back, with Warren Gatland taking his side to tour Australia. The Lions play 6 warm-up games in the build-up to a best-of-three series against the host nation. After each game, we will take a look at those Lions performers who pushed them...
A Welsh-heavy Great British and Irish Lions side opened their Tour with a straightforward 59-8 victory over the Barbarians in Hong Kong. The Lions ran in eight tries – with seven of them coming from Welshmen. Captain Paul O'Connell was the only non-Welshman to get over as he scored the opening try of the Tour while scrum-half Mike Phillips and winger Alex Cuthbert helped themselves to two tries each. Jonathan Davies, Dan Lydiate and replacement Alun Wyn-Jones also went over on a day when Warren Gatland decided to start with nine Welsh players and 11 Lions debutants. England's Owen Farrell had an up and down performance at fly-half before being replaced by Ireland's Jonny Sexton who himself missed three, admittedly tough, conversion attempts. Kahn Fotuali'I off a lovely set-up from former All Black Joe Rokocoko scored the only try for an enthusiastic, but ultimately outmatched Barbarians side who should have had Schalk Brits sent-off for a clear punch on Farrell after just eight minutes only for referee ...
Warren Gatland has selected 11 Welshmen in his squad to face the BarbariansWales will dominate the opening match of the 2013 British & Irish Lions with nine players selected to start against the Barbarians in Hong Kong. Centre pair Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies continue their winning Test partnership in midfield alongside Six Nations try hero Alex Cuthbert. Three Ospreys forwards will start at Hong Kong Stadium including front-row pair Adam Jones and Richard Hibbard as well as flanker Justin Tipuric who gets the nod after tour captain Sam Warburton was ruled out with a knee injury. Tipuric lines up between Newport Gwent Dragons pair Dan Lydiate and Toby Faletau in an all-Wales back-row in front of scrum-half Mike Phillips. The veteran Test number nine will provide crucial experience for half-back partner Owen Farrell who is joined by Saracens team-mate Mako Vunipola. Scotland's trio of tourists, Stuart Hogg, Sean Maitland and Richie Gray all start while 2009 captain Paul O'Connell will lead the team i ...
