Walter Matthau

Walter Matthau (October 1, 1920 – July 1, 2000) was an American actor best known for his role as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and his frequent collaborations with Odd Couple star Jack Lemmon, as well as his role as Coach Buttermaker in the 1976 comedy The Bad News Bears.

Here is an incredibly realistic computer rendering of a model made to look like Robert DeNiro. I swear, someone just needs to learn how to model the voice and vocal stylings of celebrities, and studios will be licensing rights to use the likenesses of celebrities into perpetuity. Halogram Tupac was just the beginning. They could make Grumpy Old Men 3 with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
"Grumpy Old Men" should be an Easter tradition. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were splendid together, and Burgess Meredith, portraying Lemmon's 94-year-old father, was hysterical. LEMMON: "Somebody moved into the old Kleckner place -- a woman." MEREDITH: "A woman? Did you mount her?" This is one of my favorite movies.
I received this from an email that I feel needs to be added to Face Book! This is from the baby boomers generation after World War II, if someone is to know these fined men ask one of them. GOD BLESS AMERICA! Subject: Do you remember these MEN? I can only send this to people our age, since today’s young people don’t have any idea who these Men were - and that’s a pity. Sterling Hayden, US Marines and OSS. Smuggled guns into Yugoslavia and parachuted into Croatia. James Stewart, US Army Air Corps. Bomber pilot who rose to the rank of General. Ernest Borgnine, US Navy. Gunners Mate 1c, destroyer USS Lamberton. Ed McMahon, US Marines. Fighter Pilot. (Flew OE-1 Bird Dogs over Korea as well.) Telly Savalas, US Army. Walter Matthau, US Army Air Corps., B-24 Radioman/Gunner and cryptographer. Steve Forrest, US Army. Wounded, Battle of the Bulge. Jonathan Winters, USMC. I’m a young man compared to you like Jack Lemmon was young compared to Walter Matthau.

Watching one of the Best movies ever made Best Comedy Duo in History Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
Ever been to a Hollywood movie premiere? I did. At The Chinese Theater in 1974 "EARTHQUAKE" in SENSOROUND! It was cool. There were speakers under the seats and when a "tremblor" (or the spectacular LONG "big shock") hit, you could feel it, it was loud even the big chandeliers inside swayed a bit! Women were screaming in the theater! It was great. The first ensemble disaster movie and we saw the cast there! Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Lorne Greene, Geneviève Bujold, Richard Roundtree, Victoria Principal, Walter Matthau. It won 2 oscars for(of course) Best Sound Mixing & a Special Achievement for Special Effects. Music by JOHN WILLIAMS got a nomination.
There are some distractions like Walter Matthau being serious and Larry Hagman as the President's translator.

Seriously, how prefect are Walter Matthau and Vic Morrow in Bad News Bears?
A Face In The Crowd is such a great movie. Patricia Neal is beautiful, and Andy Griffith is surprisingly good at playing an *** Bonus: a young, slightly less-wrinkly Walter Matthau.

I love Fox for putting out sitcoms that feature Walter Matthau style grumpy men as their romantic leads. Aces, guys. Nice work.
Probably not good. I've been vacillating between Walter Matthau in the Odd Couple, & Walter Matthau in the Bad News Bears.

Kenan and Kel are finally reuniting, for a remake of the 1968 Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau classic, The Odd Couple. It will be a black version of the film, directed by John Singleton (Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice, Shaft [2000]) from a Quentin Tarantino & Neil Simon screenplay. The film will also star Samuel L. Jackson as Murray the Cop, Meagan Good, and Gabrielle Union, and a "cameo" by the Tupac hologram.
No offense to Walter Matthau, but in Dennis the menace he looks identical to Saddam Hussein.
The original is one of my all-time favourites. Walter Matthau was a genius .

TODAY'S CUTE 60s CHICK: Ewa Aulin... Swedish actress who appeared in a number of Italian and some American films in the 1960s and 1970s. She is remembered for playing the title character in the cult film Candy where she appeared alongside such stars as John Huston, Ringo Starr, Walter Matthau, James Coburn, Richard Burton and Marlon Brando. Biography Ewa Aulin first rose to fame in her native Sweden when she won the title of Miss Teen Sweden in 1965 at age 15. In the same year Ewa had been approached by Gunnar Fischer to appear as the young girl in his short film, Djävulen's Instrument (The Devil's Instrument). Subsequently, she went on to represent Sweden in the first ever Miss Teen International pageant, which was held on April 6, 1966 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Ewa won; thereby earning the title of Miss Teen International 1966. Ewa's success as Miss Teen International attracted attention not only in Sweden, where she appeared on the popular entertainment show, Hylands Hörna, but also of I ...
Watching "Grumpy Old Men" with Catlin. She trying to decide if I'm Jack Lemon or Walter Matthau. Ha ha!
During the filming of HELLO, DOLLY! in 1968, Barbra Streisand gathered the cast and crew together and told them that her baby son, Jason Gould would be a frequent visitor on the set and instructed them to not talk baby-talk to him at any time. That was too good for co-star Walter Matthau. As soon as he spotted Jason with his mother, he rushed over to them and asked him, "Do you wanna make poo-poo, Jason?" Barbra was furious but there was little she could do except keep them far apart. :-)
On this day in 1965 Neil Simon's The Odd Couple opened at the Plymouth Theatre, NYC, starring Walter Matthau and Art Carney as Oscar & Felix
Did you know... ... that today is The Odd Couple Day? In 1965, Walter Matthau and Art Carney opened in The Odd Couple, one of Neil Simon's greatest theatrical triumphs. It would also become a hit on television, with Tony Randall playing the tidy Felix Ungar and Jack Klugman as slovenly sportswriter, Oscar Madison. The play opened at the Plymouth Theatre in New York City. Celebrate today by doing something odd! Or not... ;-)
I feel confident in saying that Hello Dolly is the best musical ever. Louis Armstrong, Walter Matthau, Barbra Streisand, and Michael Crawford (the original Phantom on Broadway's Phantom of the Opera) in one movie. Yes please!

(Me & Robert) ME: Did you know they had wine in a box? HIM: Yeah it's a joke. ME: I didn't think they made wine in a box... how bohemian would that be? HIM: No there is such a thing as wine a box. But it's a joke. Remember how Walter Matthau used to joke about it at my uncle's Christmas parties, when it first came out in in the 90's'? You do remember the 90's, right? ME: Don't be ridiculous. Of course I remember the 90's. HIM: I'm not being ridiculous. You don't remember the 70's or the 80's. ME: Not true. I remember a lot of the 70's. HIM: Okay where did you live in 1979 ME: (silent: can't remember) HIM: How about in 1980? ME: (Still drawing a blank) HIM: 1981 ME: Los Angeles. HIM: Where in Los Angeles? ME: Various places. HIM: Name a few. ME: Hollywood, West Hollywood, Westwood, Venice... HIM: Where'd you live in West Hollywood. ME: In an apartment. HIM: And what street was the apartment on. ME: You're being ridiculous nobody remembers stuff like that. HIM: Everybody remembers stuff like that but ...
Watched the film M*A*S*H last night. Great! It struck me seeing it again how much better Elliot Gould and Donald Sutherland were compared to Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers. Also got me thinking about how much better Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau were compared to Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. IMHO, of course.
You were the adorable little boy. Do you remember Walter Matthau?

Edward Mulhare's Obituary. Edward Mulhare; TV, Film, Stage Actor By Mack Reed Los Angeles Times, May 25, 1997 Edward Mulhare, the lanky Irish character actor best known as the begrudging specter in television's "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," died Saturday at home in Van Nuys after a five-month battle with long cancer. He was 74. Mulhare left behind a rich resume well peppered with credits from stage, screen and TV, ranging from his turn on a London stage opposite Orson Welles' Othello to his recent work with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in "Out to Sea" due in theaters this July. He played in musicals, road shows and TV series, switching readily from the haughty pomp of professor Henry Higgins as the first replacement for Rex Harrison in "My Fair Lady" to a variety of roles in early television dramas such as "Studio One" and "Kraft Theater." "He was brilliant to the end," said spokeswoman and longtime friends Pegge Forrest. "That wit and humor and intelligence went just to the last minute. He was waking up f ...

This post will most likely be of interest only to fans of The Walking Dead. Tonight, on the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, I watched the Oliver Stone film JFK. Although the film contains a great many movie stars, including Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Sissy Spacek, Donald Sutherland, Joe Pesci, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Kevin Bacon, Laurie Metcalf, Edward Asner, Brian Doyle-Murray, John Candy, Gary Oldman and Wayne Knight, the actor who probably had the second most screen time and dialogue behind only Costner was an actor named Michael Rooker. I myself, would never have recognized the name Michael Rooker and I assume most people would not either. However, the face and voice I recognized immediately. It was that of the character Meryl Dixon, brother of Daryl of The Walking Dead. Who knew he had an acting career before starring in the zombie television show?
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon of the dog world . The Odd Couple ❤️
Watching a movie with Walter Matthau in it and geez-o-pete he looks like my uncle. And my grandfather. And probably me, in time.

Today I am celebrating the 16th anniversary of married life with Danny A Bramlett. We started dating in 1989 after I moved to LA. Country girl meets city boy...two more opposites couldn't be found. Somehow we have stuck it out through thick and thin all these years. Really looking forward to the next 16 years as he gets older and grumpier and I get younger and more beautiful...Sophia Loren and Walter Matthau in Grumpier Old Men! Also want to say Happy Anniversary to my in-laws, Ed and Jane Hee and John and Julie Bramlett. Fun to share this special day with these special people.

Privacy Virgins, the Republican Agenda, and HOPSCOTCH, 1980/2013 SLKW In the movie, Hopscotch, a CIA agent, tired of his bosses antics, flees and dares to publish an embarrassing memoir. It's interesting and witty; a classic "get even" movie, with an all star cast of Walter Matthau as Miles Kendig, Glenda Jackson as Isobel, Sam Waterston as Cutter, Ned Beatty as Myerson, Herbert Lom as Yaskov, David Matthau as Ross. Watching a rerun, we see that technology was still in it's infancy, almost non-existent; and the movie's mentality definitely reflected the culture of the Cold War. It shows an America (and a world) that no longer exists, although it does give a wink and a nod to female achievements, sorta, kinda, if you pay attention. But the interesting thing about this film is to review it in the light of relatively recent events like WikiLeaks, and the strange life of Julian Assange, the recent wire tapping accusations that Angela Merkel's cell phone was tapped by the US. Merkel is the German Chancellor. . ...
Everyone says I look like Penn Jillette... I think I look like Walter Matthau. :/ The life of a celebrity look-a-like I guess. Kekeke
Never esteem anything as of advantage to you that will make you break d Walter Matthau to Sophia Loren at 1st encounter
Speaking of Walts in general, now that Breaking Bad is in the books I feel like starting a thread of favorite Walts, fictional or non fictional, alive or dead. Here's a few off the top of my head: 1. Walter White - the man, the myth, the legend 2. Walt Whitman - a poet, touched many a soul, and was a major catalyst in the Breaking Bad series 3. Walter Davis - a character Bruce Willis played in a 1987 comedy called 'Blind Date'. My brother and I watched this movie endlessly for some reason. 4. Walter Matthau - classic 5. Walt Disney - may have been a Nazi sympathizer, but he is ultimately forgiven because of all the great cartoons.
"A lot of parts I want they give to Robert Redford."- Walter Matthau, born 01/10/1920. MT

OK, anyone remember the 1980 film, "Hopscotch" starring Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Ned Beatty and Sam Waterston? [Watch it; despite the foul language, the movie was a bit too funny; watch Ned Beatty's framed photograph's diminishing smile.] The film was was about an American CIA operative who then went underground, then leaking sensitive information. Does no one find the current Edward Snowden situation sadly, eerily and funnily enough to believe that life is imitating art? I can't help but giggle at this white boy getting a new (forged) passport, and dressing as a burka-clad woman. Life gets funnier by the moment.
I must admit I liked this whole globetrotting Snowden thing better when it was grumpy and old and starred Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson.

Hey everyone! I was over at my mom and dad's earlier tonight, and while she and I were watching TV, there was a movie playing on the TV guide channel. We weren't able to catch the name of it because it was almost over and the next show was all they listed, but my mom had seen it before and said I needed to see it. We finished watching it, and it was such a tear-jerker! It had Walter Matthau, who played the father, who was very ill and in the hospital dying. He had three grown daughters, who were played by Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow. Do any of you know which movie this is? Any help would be great! Thanks! :)
If you want to see a movie that presages Snowden's oddessy, find "Hopscotch" starring Walter Matthau, Sam Waterston and Glenda Jackson. Ned Beatty is a foul-mouthed CIA director who steals a great underrated movie.
On this day in 1999, I lost a funny and wonderful man, my father, Jerry Simmons. He was a world-champion shmoozer, who started taking tap dancing lessons at age 70, he founded a seniors performing group while in his 70's, and it was from him that I inherited my love of theatre, my love of singing without embarrassment, and my work ethic and drive. He handed out business cards that said "Jerry Simmons -- Well known person". And that he was. He made every day a fun experience. Miss you, dad.

Well, just for the *** of it I decided to make up my top 10 films list for 1973; forty years ago. "Mean Streets" "Last Tango In Paris" "The Emigrants" / "The New Land" "Day For Night" "Blume In Love" "American Graffiti" "Sleeper" "Badlands" "The Mother And The *** "The Iceman Cometh" You will note this doesn't even include "The Sting", of which I am very fond and which won Best Picture that year. This list is, by the way, just off the top of my head. There was no real thought in making it. Films have never been better? Really?
It's hard to believe almost 40 years have passed since the seminal spring/summer blockbuster "Bad News Bears" first graced the silver screen. The surprisingly raw 1976 comedy about a ragtag bunch o...
Robert Weatherwax My Dog "Betty" in the motion picture "Dennis the Menace..with Walter Matthau and Mason Gamble.
New direction with my story. I want to play a grumpy cartoonist down on his luck who takes in roommates to make his monthly expenses. All sorts of funny bits on various pieces of paper that need to be organized for the next week. I will have to watch old Walter Matthau movies for inspiration as I plan on playing the character.
How the late, great Walter Matthau died...
Watching Walter Matthau play Einstein is leaving me scared and confused.
June 10, 1976 ... * Several hundred gather today in Capitol Square as a statue honoring former Sen. and Gov. Harry F. Byrd is dedicated. His son ... current Sen. Harry Byrd Jr. ... uses the occasion to reveal a deep, dark secret ... that while his father was governor in the late 1920s ... he, Harry Jr. ... climbed the nearby equestrian statue of George Washington and carved his initials on the horse's belly... * And here's a stomach-churner. An analysis of ground coffee served to inmates, guards and other employees at Richmond's State Penitentiary has found "more crushed stone and glass fragments than coffee grounds." Mmmm, good to the last drop... * In sports ... Washington Redskins coach George Allen has signed New York Jets running back John Riggins for a reported $1.5 million over five years... * Movies ... "Won Ton Ton - The Dog That Saved Hollywood" at Ridge Cinema ... Raquel Welch stars in "Mother, Jugs and Speed" at the Chesterfield, Towne and Broad Street Cinemas ... and Walter Matthau and Tatum ...
Watch Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon tonight in The Fortune Cookie on the MGM Channel
Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon were great friends in real life which probably explains their on screen chemistry.
Directed by Billy Wilder. With Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Susan Sarandon, Vincent Gardenia. As a tabloid newspaper editor tries to prevent his top reporter from retiring, an escaped death row convict shows up at the office trying to convey his innocence.
It's OK, we're always like this. We're like Oscar and Felix from The Odd Couple. Except we're both Walter Matthau.
Walter Matthau won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Willie Gingrich in Billy Wilder's The Fortune Cookie.
Walter Matthau...was such a treasure.

A great on-screen duo is hard to find. Tonight on the MGM Channel, Jack Lemon & Walter Matthau star in the The Fortune Cookie.
Watched Bad New Bears (1976). Apart from the inappropriate drinking and driving, underage smoking, racial slurs, swearing, driving without seatbeats and the overall complete political incorrectness.BEST movie ever! Took me back, it did. And you have to love Walter Matthau.
I am going to end up a female Walter Matthau. Just you wait.
Walter Matthau's 1980 film Hopscotch is also recommended viewing this week
It's time for another round of our Eagle Summer Blockbuster Contest! The name of the game is "It takes 2" in honor of The Internship coming to theaters! The first three people to name this dynamic duo will have a chance to win 10 tickets and 10 popcorn/soda combos courtesy of the AAFES Reel Time Theater! They solidified their bromance by being grumpy, but years before they first starred together in "The Fortune Cookie" in 1966. Good Luck!
Everything about Walter Matthau in "A New Leaf" is hysterical. The chemistry and comic timing between Matthau and Elaine May is perfect.
Watched the original "Taking Of Pelham 123" tonight. What a bad *** great 70's caper flick. Starring Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw and New York City as it was in 1974...Man they got the NY language and attitude down perfect. Awesome music score and imagine a flick where Matthau and Jerry Stiller are the heros! If you think Tarantino was being original with rhe character names in "Res Dogs", watch this! It's not that they can't make movies like this anymore, they just refuse to!
Richard Kind is slowly morphing into Walter Matthau.
I'm watching old Walter Matthau movie he looks like the young homer Simpson ha ha
“Walter Matthau” by killer OK band DEERPEOPLE. Get it here:
Early in his career, Walter Matthau was cast in sinister film roles. It took the studio a decade to recognize his comic touch
Walter Matthau's screentest for aired on AMC "Backstory" (2001) starts at 5:20 into the clip

Charley Varrick - Walter Matthau plays a small time crook in what is perhaps one of his best films
Not only is Walter Matthau wearing a glorious pimp suit but he's rockin' the 70s "white guy afro" too.
Walter Matthau as a drunk wearing a colorful pimp suit (complete with a feather in the hat)!
Watched the Odd Couple (Jack Lemmon/walter matthau) again last nite for god knows the one hundreth time. each viewing is just as great as the last, classic Neil Simon at it's best. Tony Randall and Jack Klugman of the tv series had nothing on jack and walters respective performances.
Just think. Fifty years from now, they'll be playing ONE DIRECTION, on oldies radio.
So, dat means Bad News Bears for yoo-hoo, Walter Matthau.
The original "Bad News Bears." Great movie. One of my favorites with Walter Matthau.
Feeling seriously old. After watching Bruce Willis yesterday in "A Good Day to Die Hard" and tonight Christopher Walken (oh, and Al Pacino) in the "Stand Up Guys". both movies about a bunch of old "has beens" with their "last hurrah". wow. Like watching Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in something. okay, action movies. still.
Just watched "The Bad News Bears" with the kids. 1976. He jams the entire team into the back of his convertible and gives all the kids a beer at the end of the movie. Gotta love the 70's!
Happy 18th Birthday, Brady. I am very proud of the young man you have grown into. I Love You, Son.
... I remember the good old days and the films with Walter Matthau and Elliot Gould ...
Adding some humor to the role will be the "Virtual actor" Walter Matthau playing Steve Chen.
Old Country for Old men was a remake of a movie starring george burns, Walter Matthau and Sandra Bernhardt.
Jack Lemmon is the dapperest man, but I'm a natural Walter Matthau. I'll take it.
Watching King Creole. Wife happy Elvis in view!. Washing up beckons but boy the man could sing & Walter Matthau as a baddy.
Call it a rant. call it what you will but I'm going to call it the truth. I can buy a bag of onions for a $1.29 but it cost a $1.79 for 6 onion rings I don't know how often you cook with onions but you can get eight rings from one slice of one onion. you guys see where I'm going with this Dunkin Donuts sells a large ice coffee for .99 yet Starbucks across the street will sell that same large ice coffee for 3.99... and for some unexplainable reason 711 has been able to sell a gallon of soda but under $2, go almost any place else and they will charge you an arm a leg for a thimble full of soda. why don't we pay a fair price for everything that we buy? from now on I'm going to be just like Walter Matthau in that movie my name is not Rappaport when I am in the checkout line at the store and the lady says your cost is 14.99... I will look her squarely in the eye and I will say no ma'am!... I will give you $6 I will probably be asked to leave the store at that point but I will have stood up for what I believe . ...
Instead of painful multiple updates with my every mood. Keywords from the day: original bad new bears, weird haircut, raw yogurt, collegen and protein powder, homemade comfrey compress, pocket aces, annoyed, sand on my hardwoods.
Great mid-day movie selection: Dennis the Menace (w/Walter Matthau) and Weekend at Bernie's simultaneously.
I forgot how much Walter Matthau makes me laugh in Dennis the Menace!
"Why is it when everyone feasts on the pleasures of life, I get indigestion?" -Walter Matthau 'Dennis the Menace' 1993
Watching Dennis the Menace with Walter Matthau. I love this movie:)
I freaking LOVE Dennis the Menace with Walter Matthau. I'm watching it now and laughing my butt off. The whole paintball, thumbtack, water and flour scene is just awesome!!
Walter Matthau does a perfect impression of Will Fathi in the film "Dennis the menace". It's on tv right now, but this is not the first time I've noticed the uncanny similarity.
Watching Dennis the Menace and Walter Matthau comes on screen. Cadie: Hey! That looks like Uncle Andoo (Andrew Carreon) LMAO! I literally almost fell off the couch!!
Tomorrow I get my comic book on, but tonight I shall enjoy some grub and watch Grumpy Old Men.
WARNING- rant rage! I am really trying to understand mean old grumpy people. Our neighbor (mean old man, like Walter Matthau in Grump Old Men times 10) rings the doorbell at 6:55 am (Mind you right AFTER Jon leaves) to introduce himself and then ask if I have a cat. Me- Yes I do Grumpy old man - well he has been getting into our flower beds and gardens. Me - Are you sure it's our cat? Grump old ugly man - I'm pretty sure it's your cat and the Mrs has spent countless hours, time and money in those flower beds. Me - If it's our cat I'm really sorry. He is a free spirited cat and we just moved here so he is exploring his territory. Grumpy old ugly nasty man - Well I wanted to inform you that we are putting poison in our beds and garden so if it is him, he won't be coming home. Me - You ugly SOB! Slam door. I can't keep Bandit inside because of his nature so with a huge heavy heart back to the Joplin pound he goes. I cannot take a risk of Bandit getting poisoned. I CAN AND WILL take a risk of getting caught l ...
In this episode, I take a 90-second trip on a hijacked New York subway car to review the classic 1974 version of The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, starring Walter Matthau as a disgruntled transit authority police lieutenant who must stop the ruthless Robert Shaw and his gang of criminals holding a subwa.

Just watching the original "Odd Couple" with Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. Trying to remember our cast from Passaic County Tech. Crystal Woudenberg Bernard (Gwendolyn or Cecely?) Bob Knight as Oscar and Patrick Maturo as speed. Right? Really great movie.
Thank you for all the birthday wishes..seems strange being 50 the same day my daughter's 30!
That's it! Got the keys to the new flat. Me and the Claydenmeister are going to get leathered now for precisely 12 months.
Just saw a commercial about a brand name of catheters and could have sworn that the man that the spokesman was interviewing was Walter Matthau. I had to look it up to find that Matthau died in 2000. I am an ***
Just watched Bad News Bears on Netflix again. Just love that film. And the Carmen soundtrack.
I'm not sure but I'm kinda liking Walter or Walt . As in Disney. its even close to his puppy name walker, even though he doesn't come to that name yet either.
Why have I never seen HOPSCOTCH before? Hilarious movie with brilliant performances from Glenda Jackson and Ned Beatty - and an outstanding, side splitting Walter Matthau!
Almost all of the films of deadCENTER 2013, squeezed into one explosive minute. 2013 deadCENTER Film Festival Oklahoma City, Oklahoma June 5-9, 2013

Here's a bit of Simpson's trivia for you: Do you know why Homer sounded so different back then? Dan Castellaneta was trying to do an impression of Walter Matthau. The voice eventually evolved into the current Homer and became one of the most recognizable voices in television history.
In the beginning...or at least on The Tracey Ullman Show...
Last night, Bunny and I finished Walter Matthau's "Trilogy of Terse Thrillers" from the 1970s and I highly recommend that you all watch them too. There are not related in any way other than Walter Matthau is in all of them but we watched them in this order: The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) Charley Varrick (1973) The Laughing Policeman (1973)

I woke up at 5am this morning and watched Hopskotch starring Walter Matthau, Sam Waterston, and Ned Beatty on Hulu Plus. Is that okay.
I hadn’t realized, until seeing this 1954 PSA The House In the Middle, that the possibility of nuclear apocalypse was apparently welcomed as an opportunity to bolster American housekeeping. “A house that’s neglected,” it explains, “is the house that may be doomed, in the atomic age.” No surprise t...
