Yeah tough choice for Ann Margaret between smooth handsome Jack Lemmon and all time shlub HOFer Walter Matthau and his garbage bag face
Two great Walter Matthau quotes: To be successful in show business, all you need are 50 good breaks. and, about Barbra Streisand whom he apparently hated: I'd love to work with Barbra Streisand again. In something appropriate. Perhaps, Macbeth.

Evan Rachel Wood and Rachel Leigh Cook, stopping confusing the *** out of me. Same goes for you, Walter Matthau and Martin Landau.
OK, anyone remember the 1980 film, "Hopscotch" starring Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Ned Beatty and Sam Waterston? [Watch it; despite the foul language, the movie was a bit too funny; watch Ned Beatty's framed photograph's diminishing smile.] The film was was about an American CIA operative who then went underground, then leaking sensitive information. Does no one find the current Edward Snowden situation sadly, eerily and funnily enough to believe that life is imitating art? I can't help but giggle at this white boy getting a new (forged) passport, and dressing as a burka-clad woman. Life gets funnier by the moment.
I must admit I liked this whole globetrotting Snowden thing better when it was grumpy and old and starred Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson.

The Walter Poll! Yesterday's Quarterfinal Results: Dol-gonnit, Luke! Walter Matthau was the real McCoy in his defeat of Walter Brennan, 20 to 8. Today's Quarterfinal Match-Up: Walter Cronkite or Walter Winchell?
The Walter Poll! Yesterday's Quarterfinal Results: With his 13-to-1 losing margin, Walter Mondale got fewer votes in this poll than electoral votes in 1984, which translates into pure sweetness for Walter Payton. Today's Quarterfinal Match-Up: Walter Matthau or Walter Brennan?
Hey everyone! I was over at my mom and dad's earlier tonight, and while she and I were watching TV, there was a movie playing on the TV guide channel. We weren't able to catch the name of it because it was almost over and the next show was all they listed, but my mom had seen it before and said I needed to see it. We finished watching it, and it was such a tear-jerker! It had Walter Matthau, who played the father, who was very ill and in the hospital dying. He had three grown daughters, who were played by Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow. Do any of you know which movie this is? Any help would be great! Thanks! :)
If you want to see a movie that presages Snowden's oddessy, find "Hopscotch" starring Walter Matthau, Sam Waterston and Glenda Jackson. Ned Beatty is a foul-mouthed CIA director who steals a great underrated movie.
On this day in 1999, I lost a funny and wonderful man, my father, Jerry Simmons. He was a world-champion shmoozer, who started taking tap dancing lessons at age 70, he founded a seniors performing group while in his 70's, and it was from him that I inherited my love of theatre, my love of singing without embarrassment, and my work ethic and drive. He handed out business cards that said "Jerry Simmons -- Well known person". And that he was. He made every day a fun experience. Miss you, dad.
Peter Pan is forever young, but only because he's single. If he were married, he'd look like Walter Matthau on a Monday morning by now.
AUBURN -- Ever since Neil Simon put “The Odd Couple” on Broadway in 1965, the names Felix and Oscar have been synonymous with neat-freak and slob. And, thanks to an iconic movie and 114 episodes on television, everyone recognizes the play’s trademark one-liners. That&rsqu...

So much for the producers giving James Caan a spin-off as his Tony Archer character on Hawaii Five-0. He's got a new show premering on ABC in the fall as a Bad News Bears Walter Matthau character.. now my Five-0 storyline is shot..
Walter Matthau's Buttermaker would die of alcohol poisoning trying to manage this team.
I was talking to somebody today and they were talking about how films have never been better than they are right now. Well, just for the *** of it I decided to make up my top 10 films list for 1973; forty years ago. "Mean Streets" "Last Tango In Paris" "The Emigrants" / "The New Land" "Day For Night" "Blume In Love" "American Graffiti" "Sleeper" "Badlands" "The Mother And The *** "The Iceman Cometh" You will note this doesn't even include "The Sting", of which I am very fond and which won Best Picture that year. This list is, by the way, just off the top of my head. There was no real thought in making it. Films have never been better? Really?

New direction with my story. I want to play a grumpy cartoonist down on his luck who takes in roommates to make his monthly expenses. All sorts of funny bits on various pieces of paper that need to be organized for the next week. I will have to watch old Walter Matthau movies for inspiration as I plan on playing the character.
How the late, great Walter Matthau died...
Watching Walter Matthau play Einstein is leaving me scared and confused.

Watched Bad New Bears (1976). Apart from the inappropriate drinking and driving, underage smoking, racial slurs, swearing, driving without seatbeats and the overall complete political incorrectness.BEST movie ever! Took me back, it did. And you have to love Walter Matthau.

The first three people to name this dynamic duo will have a chance to win 10 tickets and 10 popcorn/soda combos courtesy of the AAFES Reel Time Theater! They solidified their bromance by being grumpy, but years before they first starred together in "The Fortune Cookie" in 1966. Good Luck!
Everything about Walter Matthau in "A New Leaf" is hysterical. The chemistry and comic timing between Matthau and Elaine May is perfect.
Watched the original "Taking Of Pelham 123" tonight. What a bad *** great 70's caper flick. Starring Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw and New York City as it was in 1974...Man they got the NY language and attitude down perfect. Awesome music score and imagine a flick where Matthau and Jerry Stiller are the heros! If you think Tarantino was being original with rhe character names in "Res Dogs", watch this! It's not that they can't make movies like this anymore, they just refuse to!
Richard Kind is slowly morphing into Walter Matthau.

Watched the odd couple (Jack Lemmon/walter matthau) again last nite for god knows the one hundreth time. each viewing is just as great as the last, classic Neil Simon at it's best. tony randall and jack klugman of the tv series had nothing on jack and walters respective performances.
Just think. Fifty years from now, they'll be playing ONE DIRECTION, on oldies radio.
So, dat means Bad News Bears for yoo-hoo, Walter Matthau.
The original "Bad News Bears." Great movie. One of my favorites with Walter Matthau.
Feeling seriously old. After watching Bruce Willis yesterday in "A Good Day to Die Hard" and tonight Christopher Walken (oh, and Al Pacino) in the "Stand Up Guys". both movies about a bunch of old "has beens" with their "last hurrah". wow. Call it a rant. call it what you will but I'm going to call it the truth. I can buy a bag of onions for a $1.29 but it cost a $1.79 for 6 onion rings I don't know how often you cook with onions but you can get eight rings from one slice of one onion. you guys see where I'm going with this Dunkin Donuts sells a large ice coffee for .99 yet Starbucks across the street will sell that same large ice coffee for 3.99... and for some unexplainable reason 711 has been able to sell a gallon of soda but under $2, go almost any place else and they will charge you an arm a leg for a thimble full of soda. why don't we pay a fair price for everything that we buy? from now on I'm going to be just like Walter Matthau in that movie my name is not Rappaport when I am in the checkout line at the store and the lady says your cost is 14.99... I will look her squarely in the eye and I will say no ma'am!... I will give you $6 I will probably be asked to leave the store at that point but I will have stood up for what I believe . ...

Watching Dennis the Menace and Walter Matthau comes on screen. Cadie: Hey! That looks like Uncle Andoo (Andrew Carreon) LMAO! I literally almost fell off the couch!!
Tomorrow I get my comic book on, but tonight I shall enjoy some grub and watch Grumpy Old Men.
WARNING- rant rage! I am really trying to understand mean old grumpy people. Our neighbor (mean old man, like Walter Matthau in Grump Old Men times 10) rings the doorbell at 6:55 am (Mind you right AFTER Jon leaves) to introduce himself and then ask if I have a cat. Me- Yes I do Grumpy old man - well he has been getting into our flower beds and gardens. Me - Are you sure it's our cat? Grump old ugly man - I'm pretty sure it's your cat and the Mrs has spent countless hours, time and money in those flower beds. Me - If it's our cat I'm really sorry. He is a free spirited cat and we just moved here so he is exploring his territory. Grumpy old ugly nasty man - Well I wanted to inform you that we are putting poison in our beds and garden so if it is him, he won't be coming home. Me - You ugly SOB! Slam door. I can't keep Bandit inside because of his nature so with a huge heavy heart back to the Joplin pound he goes. I cannot take a risk of Bandit getting poisoned. I CAN AND WILL take a risk of getting caught l ...
In this episode, I take a 90-second trip on a hijacked New York subway car to review the classic 1974 version of The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, starring Walter Matthau as a disgruntled transit authority police lieutenant who must stop the ruthless Robert Shaw and his gang of criminals holding a subwa.

I hadn’t realized, until seeing this 1954 PSA The House In the Middle, that the possibility of nuclear apocalypse was apparently welcomed as an opportunity to bolster American housekeeping. “A house that’s neglected,” it explains, “is the house that may be doomed, in the atomic age.” No surprise t...

Just thought I'd tell my fb friends about the new season of The Push Girls on the Sundance channel. They are 4 very beautiful women who happen to be in wheelchairs, but don't let that stop them from living a normal life..just like me & my girlfriends. Their catch phrase at the beginning of their show is: If you can't stand Up..then stand Out !!! This is not a Housewives of New Jersey/Atlanta reality type show. They love each other, have each other's back, support each other & have fun doing it !! Oh, one more thing..if you've never seen the movie A New Leaf (1971) with Walter Matthau & Elaine May, & want to laugh out loud, try to rent/buy it, or come on over to my place..I bought the dvd and it came today !! Remember to call first...lol
Did I just fall into a time warp? Am I on glue? I just called someone and I got A BUSY SIGNAL. I'm completely flummoxed. I almost want to call the operator and do an "emergency break" like it's 1980 and my mom is on the phone with her sister and I'm trying to call her from the mall telling her I'm going to the Serramonte 6 to see Little Darlings.
This question doesn't follow the page theme, but oh well. So who played the part of Morris Buttermaker the BEST in the movie 'Bear News Bears' Walter Matthau or Billy Bob Thornton?
First day of football camp is in the bag! I need a beer or ten
Why is so many people at the hospital thinking Roger Artz is Walter Matthau? I don't see it except the nose!!

Gotta love any movie Walter Matthau is in.. Lol. Watch it if you ever see it on.
Doctor's appointment today! Starting this journey again! :-) Getting our first ultrasound today (I think)! Yay!
There should be a big sign that says "If you don't want bags, tell us, failing which we will immediately leap to the conclusion that you would rather have bags than carry all the stuff you just purchased in your pockets".
Good morning, friends. It is June 3, 2013. “My doctor gave me six months to live, but when I couldn't pay the bill, he gave me six months more.” ~Walter Matthau (Sometimes, you just gotta laugh...and today is one of those days..) Missed my Addi getting her touchdown yesterday… weather was a bit inclement for me.. but I was there in spirit and she was on fire! High 5 hot shot! Enjoyed a nice dinner with friend Ann – as I said in a past journal, that girl can make me laugh.. What was a bit odd this time around is that I discovered that in my “condition”, it actually hurts to belly laugh.. and we laughed about that too.. I never thought it would be so great to “hurt to laugh”. I refuse to stop! This morning, Nicole and I are heading to the University of Chicago… oh dear, it’s the blind leading the blind for us to be driving to Chicago together – alone-- but we will find our way… I was told to report to the hospital today for a clinical study blood draw to make sure that my bilirubin . ...

Good lord. Old men. Please Dear God. When I get into my 70s and upwards, let me be more like Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future or Peter O'Toole in Bright Young things than the horrible preening old birds I presently am having to deal with.
Just re-watched The Bad News Bears last night with my kids. Walter Matthau and Bill Lancaster are geniuses. a couple of 9it didn't seem so bad to hear kids say that in 1976 but now?? . eesh.) kind of moments but a great movie. Makes me want to avoid the sequels and the remake like the plague.

Worst Parent in the World Update: I suggested that we (as a family) eat pizza and watch the Bad News Bears (1976 Walter Matthau version). Wow. We have been watching an hour and have heard endless rants about Jews, *** *** *** drunks, etc. Good grief. :0
OMG as a fluke I decided to watch A New Leaf, old comedy starring the immortal Walter Matthau and the absolutely beautiful and talented Elaine May. And I will tell you: there is nothing on this earth, now or in the Mesazoic Period, funnier, than Jewish comic actors who know how to be FUNNY, regardless of the script. This. Movie. Killed. And Elaine was gorgeous!
A New Leaf (1971) is a dark comedy film based on the short story The Green Heart by Jack Ritchie, starring Elaine May, Walter Matthau, George Rose and James Coco. Better known for her collaboration as a stage comedienne with The Graduate director Mike Nichols, May also wrote and directed (in her deb...
I watched a terrific film last night from the early 70s with Walter Matthau and Elaine May called, "A New Leaf." May's character, a wealthy wacky botanist says to a wine connoisseur: "Have you ever had Extra Heavy Malaga Wine, spritzer and Lime Juice? It's called a Malaga Cooler and every year is good." This film is SO CHARMING I can not believe I have never heard of it!! A great reason to celebrate and drink these wine coolers this weekend! A lovely weekend to all!! CHEERS!!
and y'all thought Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were the Odd Couple!?
From "The Devil's Guide to Hollywood" by Joe Eszterhas: If you make it, don't brag about it. My fellow Hungarian, actor Tony Curtis: "It was a miserable, rainy late afternoon, my chauffeur drives me down 48th Street, and who do I see out front, standing under the marquee, but Walter Matthau. He's got a long, heavy coat on and looks as grumpy as he's ever looked in his life...he's looking out at this cold miserable world he's got to live in. He hates it. I'm getting this reading as I'm sitting in my limo, warm and comfy, looking at this poor guy on the sidewalk staring into the gutter and saying to himself, 'What's ever going to happen for me? Nothin'.' You could see that on his face. "So I say to the driver, 'See that guy standing under the awning? Drive up to him as slowly as possible, and when we're alongside of him, stop.' He says okay, so we drive up, and I see Walter watching this limousine come rolling up, and it stops right where he's standing. I roll the window down, I look at him, and I s ...
Seriously thinkin of installing cameras on our patio! Enjoying some late night beer and BBQ with Walter Matthau aka Chandler Pavlis and Jack Lemmon aka Scott Purgerson @ casa de Los tres amigos ! Always entertaining and laughter to share !
Staying up too late watching the original THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE, TWO, THREE.
I've been watching "1941" on TCM's "Friday Night Spotlight". This month's theme is "films that deserve a second look". This one didn't. Good lord, what an overproduced mess of a movie! The only good thing in this picture is the John Williams score (dependable as always).
Just watch my step-father's film A New Leaf by Elaine May. Gayne shot the film and Walter Matthau... can't make those films now.
We are watching an old favorite movie of mine: A New Leaf--Elaine May and Walter Matthau. There are lines in this movie that are laugh-out-loud funny. They just don't make 'em like this today.
Okay...last one, I promise, A New Leaf is a great, funny, movie.Elaine May and Walter Matthau are hilarious together ...true love overcomes greed.
President Obama in "A New Leaf" when Walter Matthau got to the man.
Just watching A New Leaf on TCM... A film made in 1971 that I watched in 1974 or 1975. I was and still am, for some unfathomable reason, a fan of Walter Matthau. I barely remember it but it's a wonderfully offbeat film. With Ileana Douglas introducing the movie, I found out Elaine May, the female lead, was also the director. And an Oscar nominated writer.
Right now, (Fri May 31, 8pm onwards) Turner Classic Movies is showing one of my very favorite comedies "A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau & Elaine May. I never get tired of watching it.
"A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau is a great old movie. It's on now!
One of the funniest movies ever made comes on tonight at 8:00 pm on TCM: "A New Leaf." It stars Elaine May and Walter Matthau. It's a real treat! I'm staying in tonight!
In your best Walter Matthau singing voice: 'We're having a heat wave! A tropical heat wave!'
Going way back to Summer of 1974, Little League Baseball, Coach Earl Summers, with Charles Summers, and Ken Cooperman. Please help tag the rest.
Several famous actors were decorated during WWII. For example, Henry Fonda won a Bronze Star in the Pacific, Walter Matthau was awarded six battle stars while serving on a B-17, and David Niven was awarded the U.S. Legion of Merit. Christopher Lee was a pilot in the Royal Air Force and also won a number of awards.
Good news for movie buffs. The obscure cult classic A New Leaf is on TCM tonight at 8PM East Coast Time. Written and directed by the astonishing Elaine May who acts in it along with Walter Matthau. It is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. And it's apparent low budget adds to its charm. Hard to find. Rare to see. Party time.
At the movies we saw the preview for ENDER'S GAME, which looked pretty good. (Hey, just about anything with Harrison Ford looks good to me.) I know nothing about this book except that my kids and even grandkids have read it repeatedly. Those who know my reading tastes--do you think this is something I might enjoy?
May 20th - We have sailed up the English Channel through the night and are now in the North Sea. We will not arrive at our first port, Stavanger, until tomorrow at 8:30am. Options on board the ship are endless - this morning there are body workouts, yoga or pilates available in the Royal Spa Fitness Centre, beginner or intermediate bridge lessons, bingo, line dancing, presentations on the ports of call, seminar on Ipods, Ipads, and Iphones, a seminar on digital cameras, trivia, watercolor art class, art talk on the history of impressionism, table tennis tournament, a lecture on Christine Keeler and the Profumo Scandal or the History of Cunard, ballroom dance class on the cha-cha. The afternoon offers a lot of the same as well as shuffleboard, paddle tennis, golf putting tournament, darts competition, a movie in the Royal Court Theatre. And of course there is always shopping in the boutique shops and the casino. Or maybe just curling up in the impressive library with a good book, watching the sea go by. O ...
He was a 215-pound 12-year-old when he starred as Mike Engelberg in the original Bad News Bears film back in 1976, but today Gary Lee Cavagnaro is a successful businessman in Dallas and lives five blocks from me. He spent some time with some of my co-workers today and is a great dude, with some fantastic stories including what a truly classy and nice guy Walter Matthau was.
Come to think about it, if Walter Matthau were still around he'd be a better Manager and hitting instructor for the Kansas City Royals as he was in that movie "The Bad News Bears"!
I realize it's only the top of the 4th inning but evidently bringing George Brett on as hitting coach hasn't helped the Kansas City Royals problems!
How is that a French made rom-com with Audrey Tatou can be so simple, bittersweet and captivating. And American made rom-coms make we want to punch Zac Efron. The film is "Delicacy", check it out.
For film fans there are some in each genre that are must see. Tomorrow, Friday, "A New Leaf" with Walter Matthau, Elaine May and Jack Weston is on TCM at 7 PM CDT. A must for alll with a wry sense of humor and a taste for dark comedy.
Ok, so this morning I am beginning to realize that my little Joseph does not know what stop talking, close your mouth, not another word, and don't back talk, mean. You know the "Dennis the Menace movie with Walter Matthau" that came out in 1993? If you haven't seen it, it is pretty humorous. Anyway, the little boy that plays Dennis in that movie is an incredible actor. In the story he is kidnapped by a bad villain, and the villain is upset because Dennis won't shut up. He realizes he picked the most annoying kid he could have to hold hostage. Well, that would be my Joseph. There is ALWAYS noise coming from him in one form or another. It isn't always words. Sometimes it is singing, humming, mouth noises (I must admit he makes a REALLY good airplane sound that I can't copy), and he can even use his arm to make noises. Yes, that one. LOL Sometimes everyone in our house just has to rest their ears from his incessant chattering. Poor kid. He just has a lot to say, and we are required to listen ev ...
AN OVERLOOKED CLASSIC There’s a shot of Kirk Douglas in the 1962 film LONELY ARE THE BRAVE that brought tears to my eyes. It’s a close-up of Douglas turning and looking over his shoulder toward camera and smiling that charismatic Kirk Douglas smile. It’s Douglas at his best. Also starring the beautiful, young Gena Rowlands and an understated Walter Matthau, the film deals with a cowhand reluctant to make the transition into the present day. The film’s in stunning, gritty black and white and showcases incredibly beautiful mountain sequences and fantastic performances particularly from Douglas, Rowlands and Matthau. Written by Dalton Trumbo, from a novel by Edward Abbey, and directed by David Miller, the film was released as standard western and didn’t make much of a mark. Finally now, the film is being appreciated. Douglas says this is his best film. I couldn’t agree more.
hate to say BUT honestly Walter Matthau in Grumpy Old Men the movie aint got nothing on me. SOOO was at monterey house for dinner tonight, seen a lady i kind of know setting alone eating SOOO i had her waitress give me her bill so i could pay for it. :) she was VERY thankful.

My nephew Barry recently asked me what my favourite films are. Here are some. Feel free to share your own with us all! Said "I'm Jim Dale meets Walter Matthau". Ha ha. Not exactly over-generous to yourself, but hits the spot. Italian hitman maybe?
Have you finally given up on becoming a sex god, movie star, billionaire or genius during your life? You may be ready to become a curmudgeon! Curmudgeons are falsely believed to be Grumpy Old Men, along the lines of Walter Matthau or Andy Rooney. The truth is we can be any gender or any age. Curmudgeons are supremely independent thinkers, very wise, and have excellent senses of humor! Steps Curmudgeons are not pleasers! You must not care to be popular or liked. If that matters to you, go to therapy! Curmudgeons are not crabby - that is a myth. We tell the truth, and some people don't like that. Tell Junior what you really think of his writing. Tell Aunt Ida that she's got bad breath. Don't be mean about it, but don't try to make everything sound pretty! Curmudgeons do not follow 'trends'! You must learn to think for yourself! If a popular media figure says something is great, you don't care for it. If most of the people around you like a TV show, gadget or movie, it makes you yawn. You may need to try for ...
MONICA AFTER MIDNIGHT: This clip from the Don Siegel-directed, R-rated 1973 crime drama CHARLEY VARRICK, starring Walter Matthau and Joe Don Baker, finds me in the fictitious role of a big-haired madam running the (in)famous Mustang Ranch brothel outside Reno, NV. I was 51 at the time. My husband, Jennings Lang, executive produced the film, and the director approached me personally about taking the small part -- which I agreed to do only if my spouse appeared as one of the brothel's "customers" (Jennings ultimately managed to evade that obligation). The Mustang's female staff served as extras, and the ranch's storied owner, Joe Conforte, made a fleeting appearance in this scene. PLEASE NOTE: This video is mature-themed and should be viewed by adults only as an example of the kind of gritty, realistic and critically lauded American filmmaking that prevailed in the early 1970s. Love, Monica
Check out the 389th Edition of my blog series if you haven't yet which includes Walter Matthau, Emma Stone, Mike Myers, Tilda Swinton, Gong Li, Spencer Tracy, Ed Helms, and many others.
Walter Matthau was Scorsese's original choice for the role of Travis Bickle in "Taxi Driver".
Nick Knowles, with your face like a slightly ironed Walter Matthau.
You know which movie I love which nobody seems to talk about? The original "The Taking of Pelham 123" with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw.
Of the main cast members in 1993's 'Dennis the Menace,' only Walter Matthau (Mr. Wilson) and Paul Winfield (Police Chief) are dead. RIP.
Today's sketch of the day is Walter Matthau. You may remember him from
Shot 'Dennis The Menace' near here and Walter Matthau played Mr. Wilson. Met him at Chicago Film Festival when he and Jack Lemmon-Honored!
I'm just sorry this movie wasn't remade with William Shatner, Walter Matthau and Ed Asner.
This afternoon's movie is" I'm not Rappaport" starring Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis
Hopscotch is marvelous Walter Matthau/ Glenda Jackson film. Lots of smiles. God bless and heal you.
A series of Anne Geddes baby pictures but with Walter Matthau in place of a baby.
Jared: We’ll be like, this generations Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Jensen: It’ll be great. We can go on tour as the Smothers Brothers.
So many great lines in "The Front Page" with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, right now on HBO Family.
I only want to watch a Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau movie if it's The Odd Couple.
Old Men# Two of the greatest actors ever.. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau they were always great together. ~Independent Lady~
When George Kennedy, his mechanical arm, and James Coburn are menacing you, even Walter Matthau seems reassuring. Whoops.
Taking pictures while watching Grumpier Old Men and wishing we had men like Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon.
Bit like Grumpy Old Men seeing as Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Ossie Davis and Burgess Meredith are all dead but at least they were old
Odd Couple with Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon. One of the greatest comedies ever
New favorite old movie? Hopscotch. Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, Sam Waterston and Ned Beatty. Bonus: the soundtrack is to die for. Out.
Here's something I find interesting: Jack Lemmon (movie Felix Unger) and Jack Klugman (TV Oscar Madison) both were in "In Days of Wine and Roses". Does anyone know if Tony Randall (TV Felix Unger) and Walter Matthau (movie Oscar Madison) ever did a movie together?
Watching "Grumpier Old Men" with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. I have forgotten how funny this is. Woody and I are laughing non stop!!
Watching "Grumpier Old Men" movie. I've seen it sooo many times, but just love watching it time and time again. I loved the original "Grumpy Old Men" . I really do like Jack Lemmon , but Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are soo funny together - just a feel good easy movie-- which when it is over makes your heart feel good - as I like happy endings ! What is better than laughing and your heart feeling good !!
Did you ever see the movie HOUSE CALLS with Walter Matthau and Glenda Jackson (there was a series based on it)? Very funny
I miss Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. It's hard to believe they have been gone more than a decade. Grumpy Old Men lives on!!
OMG the "Grumpy Old Men" movies crack me up...I swear Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau we're two of the FUNNIEST actors of ALL TIME!
Rick Wade, I just realized that Howard is Walter Matthau and you are Jack Lemmon. We will know for sure in about 30 years!
Whenever I call "Pelham" I always think of Robert Shaw and Walter Matthau in the 1974 classic, "The Taking of Pelham 123."
So was just watching Grumpy Old Men with one of h great comedy duos of all time, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. An it t me thinking, who would u consider the 5 greatest comedy duos ever can be tv or movies? Mine would be.5. Tim Conway/Harvey Korman, 4. Lemmon/Matthau, 3. Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis, 2. Groucho and Harpo Marx, and 1. Jackie Gleason ad Art Carney. What r urs
Last week I stumbled across this almost impossible to watch gem while searching for some information on the Academy Awards. According to moviephone this is the 3rd worst Oscar moment ever. (Only 2011's "bored to the point of catatonia" James Franco and "irritatingly manic" Anne Hathaway as hosts and 1989's opening duet between Rob Lowe and Snow White are listed as worse.) Regarding this clip, per moviephone: Walter Matthau, Liza Minnelli, Dudley Moore, and Richard Pryor (1983). Veteran Oscar show writer Buz Kohan called this quartet of hosts the worst ever. As he explained to Entertainment Weekly, "I had written the opening number, called 'It All Comes Down to This.' They were all scared stiff, but ordinarily if you're scared, then you put in the time and rehearse. They took the opposite approach. So Liza was forced to carry the number, Walter was singing in his own zone somewhere, Dudley was just trying to walk down these steps without falling, and Richard Pryor well, I think they told him the next day . ...
March 5, 1976 ... * Boy, how times change. The British pound ... once a proud currency for international trading ... has dropped below the $2 level for the first time ever... * And NBC's about as red as one of those peacock feathers. The network spent $750,000 for its new network logo ... which, it turns out, looks just about the same as that used by the Nebraska Educational TV Network ... which paid less than $100 designing theirs. So now ... NBC has agreed to pay another $55,000 to the Nebraska network as an out-of-court settlement... * In sports ... sixth-seeded Virginia wins a spot in the ACC tournament final against North Carolina after defeating third-seeded Maryland 73 - 65... * At the movies ... Walt Disney's "No Deposit No Return" with David Niven and Don Knotts is playing at Ridge and Cloverleaf ... Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn star in "Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother" at Broad Street and Trans-Lux ... and Walter Matthau and George Burns star in Neil Simon's "The Sunshine Boys" at Chesterfield ...
Yo forreal though, Walter Matthau used to be a badass. Dude could get his.
Watching movie from 1974 and Walter Matthau uses the 'f' word, and he wasn't nice about it. How times have changed.
Walter Matthau is a legend of an actor.
Walter matthau what a legend! love watching anything with him in
When I was a girl Sofia was not such a popular name so most of the time when I would give people my name they would say oh like Sophia Loren.
A pity that Walter Matthau is too dead to teach him the fundamentals. Sorry you hurt yourself in your photography experiment.
New York through the medium of fil..Breakfast at Tiffanys, Empire State (Sleepless in Seattle) , Statem Island Ferry (Working Girl) and ice rink in Central Park (Serendipity)
Saw "The Odd Couple (female version)" last night at TTC, I went with some trepidation, as I found the film of the male version, a bit tedious (Walter Matthau, and Jack Lemon). Need not have worried, it was hilarious, well done Tracy Frankson, H, and all the cast and crew. Tracy in particular showed what a professional she is by going on, whilst suffering from Tonsilitus.
Watching The Apartment last night for the zillionth time, I was struck by Billy Wilder's consistency. Most directors or screenwriters would be happy to have any one of his classics, let alone all of them. (A partial list of my favorites includes Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, The Fortune Cookie, a remake of The Front Page and Some Like it Hot.) What a genius. And he couldn't work later in life because he was too old for the insurers to guarantee. Incredible legacy.
Just watched Cactus Flower--Ingrid Bergman, Walter Matthau, and introducing Goldie Hawn who won an for her role. Fab 1960s comedy.
Still upset that Walter Matthau didn't win an Oscar for "Bad News Bears", and my parents weren't married when that movie came out.
Barry Larkin is managing Brazil's World Baseball Classic team, because Brazilian Walter Matthau is busy this week.
Took a CPR/First Aid/AED class today. The instructor was a retired doctor. Funny guy (not intentionally funny, but imagine Walter Matthau teaching the class). The cool part about having a doctor teach it: he actually tells what is happening medically in CPR. The bad part- I felt like an *** because I didn't know half the terms that used (he did explain them).
Kicking back, resting my knee & cozy watching "Grumpier Old Men" it's a oldie but a goody :) one of my all time favorite movies I think :))
Sitting on the couch with the wife enjoying some popcorn & the Walter Matthau classic film Hopscotch -
did you know he's buried next to Walter Matthau? I have photographic evidence.
so far i've watched Argo; Game Changer; Anna Karenina; Some Like It Hot; and currently watching The Fortune Cookie, which is set in Cleveland with Walter Matthau & Jack Lemmon.. too funny.
The gem that is the Walter Matthau "The Taking of Pelham 123"
saw Some Like It Hot, Billy Wilder's 1959 cross-dressing comedic masterpiece that's probably doesn't need him to heap praise on it at this point, but if you've never seen it, you need to. Watching it again, the effervescence of the film's dialogue, pacing and performances really stand out, and the way the film juggles all its characters and disparate plot elements is impressive and shows tight control of the film by director Wilder, and it also shows how themes and tropes that this movie pioneered that we now hate, due to slapdash execution by thousands of later movies (men in drag, mistaken identities, the liar reveals), can actually work when the people involved actually give a *** about making a good movie, as opposed to a profitable one. Bottom line; see this if you haven't and if you have, it's well worth revisiting; 4 stars, and did you really expect it to get anything less than that?
The Fortune Cookie is on TCM. Watch it if you haven't seen it before. First pairing of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
"Fortune Cookie" on Turner. Yes, the Browns and Cleveland in a movie. Walter Matthau won an Oscar.
Today on TCM two great movies back to back. First is The Fortune Cookie starting Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Matthau won an Oscar for best actor in a supporting role. Second is one of my all time favorites The Apartment starring Jack Lemmon, Shirley McLaine, and Fred MacMurray. This film was received 10 oscar nominations and won best picture in 1960.
So I just told Frank he looked like Dennis the Menace because he hair is sticking up...he said who is that? Lol guess I'm old
Directed by Joseph Sargent. With Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam, Hector Elizondo. In New York, armed men hijack a subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers. Even if it's paid, how could they get away?

Weird how Walter Matthau was born in his forties.
Walter Matthau looked middle aged in his debut film.
I didn't know Walter Matthau was in The Kentuckian... Turns out it was his screen debut.
The movie "42" is coming out about Jackie Robinson, plus it's spring training which brings up the question, what's your favorite baseball movie?
Is there a better grumpy old man than Clint Eastwood?
Video on Today: Members of the Colorado College ultimate Frisbee team, who filmed themselves doing the “Harlem Shake” on an airplane, talk about the FAA investigation into the incident, saying they asked permission from flight attendants to perform the stunt.
Another great quote from Queen Palosi this morning "the budget is a reflection of our national values". Excuse me but borrowing and spending my *** into oblivion is not included in my value set!!!
(4/4) ... double-bill of Walter Matthau films with THE LAUGHING POLICEMAN and CHARLEY VARRICK. You can't argue with that eh?
Just sent my handsome, fresh-faced husband off on a to Philly. Fully expect him to come back looking like Walter Matthau.

Walter Matthau-a-thon is about to morph into a Neil Simon-a-thon.
I'm not sure I want my daughter growing up in a world where Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are dead

Can you imagine Walter Matthau and Jimmy Stewart having a conversation during a battle on an airplane? :)

Hi. Hey. We're shooting a video and we need an older couple. Like 70's...for about 10 minutes. They just need to be awesome...and like to dance...Please message me if you have anyone in mind! (West Chester/Philadelphia Area)
Older people who have low expectations for a satisfying future may be more likely to live longer, healthier lives than those who see brighter days ahead, according to new research.
Sitting at the Watson Chapel McDonalds listening to the retirees talk is FUNNY!! I just can't tell which one is Jack Lemon and which one is Walter Matthau
