I'd say Calbert Cheaney and Walt Bellamy are at the "big boy table" despite their lack of a national title.
Kristaps Porzingis, AKA the very Walt Bellamy meets the curved Pau Gasol 💊
Gearing up for March Madness next week? Check out this photo of basketball great Walt Bellamy back in 1968!

Dave Cowens also of the Celtics ran the court well. Moses Malone ran the court well.Walt Bellamy also ran the court well.
I liked a video from Walt Bellamy Scouting Video (Hall of Fame NBA Center)
Wilt shot 68% for the whole 1967 season while averaging 24 PPG. Walt Bellamy was 2nd in FG% that year at 52%.
Kareem, Russell, Nate Thurmond, Walt Bellamy, Bob Lanier, Wes Unseld, and Willis Reed are all hall of fame centers
with no 3PTer Kareem averaged 28.6 on 55% Walt Bellamy did 31.6 on 51% before Wilt I don't have to delve into so yes
Walt Bellamy Bob Petit Wilt Elvin Hayes all have averaged 30 points with no 3 point line. It doesn't impress me.
probably what happened that season. That’s why the Walt Bellamy/Dave Debuschere trade made NY Champion contenders in 68
Michael Jordan scored on 69 points against cupcake Craig Ehlo. Wilt scored 62 points on Bill Russell and 73 points on Walt Bellamy
PHOTO: snapped a selfie with Snow White during her visit to Walt Disney World:
Amount of points Wilt scored vs HOF Walt Bellamy compared to how much Kareem scored vs Walt .Wilt is a better scorer
If Wilt was able to score 62 points against Bill Russell and 73 against Walt Bellamy, then he could score 50 against any center
Lucas was a center to start and Willis Reed universally is and Walt Bellamy has an argument.
Walt Bellamy was a scorer Nate Thurmond has highest defensive win shares ever Bill Russell a top 12 player all time
Caron butler, chris webber, Juan Howard, earl Monroe, Gilbert arenas, and Elvin Hayes, or even Walt Bellamy would be better PD's
Bandwagon? I was watching games in Alexander Memorial Coliseum back when Lou Hudson, Walt Bellamy, and Bill Bridges were playing.
Walt Bellamy taught what subject in school. Does Phil know 🙏
Today in History: May 8, 1970, the New York Knicks defeat the Los Angeles Lakers in the seventh game of the NBA Finals to win their first NBA championship. The Knicks managed only one winning season between 1955 and 1966. Desperate to improve, the team took Willis Reed in the second round of the 1964 draft. Reed hailed from Grambling State University, where he had amassed 2,280 career points and averaged 26.6 points and 21.3 rebounds per game during his senior year. A natural center, Reed began his career with the Knicks playing power forward. Although he was named Rookie of the Year for 1965, the Knicks still floundered. A turnaround finally began during the 1967-68 season, when the Knicks hired coach William "Red" Holzman, a defensive tactician who demanded that his team begin to play as a unit. In 1968, the Knicks traded center Walt Bellamy and forward Howard Komives to the Detroit Pistons for forward Dave DeBusschere. DeBusschere, a former Chicago White Sox pitcher, was a talented athlete, and he play ...
Anyone remember Alexander Stadium "when the "Atlanta hawks" played until the Omni was built. I loved the Hawks back then. Walt Bellamy, Super Lou Hudson, Zelmo Beaty...just to mention a few. We went to a lot of the games at the Omni too. The Coach then was Richie Guren? He played in some of the games too. We had dinner with Mr. Guren (accidently) one evening at a restaurant we all happened to be visiting. My husband went over to his table and invited him to sit with us. He told him I was a Big fan of the Hawks. He came over and we had a nice visit. I even gave him some advice..lol
In spite of what D Howard believes, he is an above average center, nothing more. HE will never carry a team. He is Walt Bellamy
Wilt, Walt Bellamy, Nate Thurmond, Willis Reed. Just a few great centers from the mid 50s and 60s. And there are more
So now that Thomas Vanek decided not to sign with the Islanders, his trade value drops precipitously. So let's evaluate that trade. The Islanders lose Matt Moulson, a first round draft choice and a second round draft choice. If they don't trade Vanek, they'll end up with nothing. If they do, they might get a third round draft choice. That must may go down as the worst trade in sports history and should cost Garth Snow his job. At least the Cardinals got Neil Allen and Rick Ownby for Keith Hernandez; at least the Cincinnati Reds got Milt Pappas for Frank Robinson; at least the Chicago Cubs got Ernie Broglio for Lou Brock; at least the Mets got Jim Fregosi for Nolan Ryan, and they got Joy Foy for Amos Otis; at least the Cardinals got Rick Wise for Steve Carlton. At least the Detroit Pistons got Walt Bellamy and Howie Komives for Dave DeBusschere. All those were one-sided, but to trade your teams future on a prayer?...a prayer that apparently will not be answered. I just hope there's more to this de ...
Antawn Jamison -HOF CAREER? Your opinions? Antawn Jamison is 20th player to ever score 20,000 pts., 8,000 rebs., and 1,000 assists. Just digest that collection of his peers for a moment. Will there even need to be a voting process when Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett become eligible for enshrinement? Of course not. Just like none was needed for the 15 players who hit those marks before: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Havlicek, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Robert Parish, Elgin Baylor, Larry Bird, Walt Bellamy, Bob Pettit and David Robinson. Jamison's numbers aren't simply the product of longevity. They're a testament to his dominance, not his endurance.
Bill Russell & Walt Bellamy are the ones I can think of off the top of my head
TDIKH: (1968) "The Trade" - Knicks acquire forward Dave DeBusschere from Detroit for center Walt Bellamy and guard Howard …
While relaxing last night, I was thinking about how blessed Chosen has been. We have opened for Dottie Peoples & Ernest Pugh, sang at Walt Bellamy's funeral, sang for the Mayor's Inaugural Interfaith event all without promoting ourselves.

45 yrs ago the Knicks become the Knicks: Dave DeBusschere trade w Pistons for Walt Bellamy & Howie Komives.
Have you heard stories about former NBA players suffering from concussion syndrome? Walt Bellamy's passing made me think.

On this date in '64, Gus Johnson (41) & Walt Bellamy (40) were the 1st NBA teammates to score 40 points apiece. The Bullets beat the Lakers.
Hall of Fame center Walt Bellamy dies at 74 - ...
USA Basketball and the basketball world mourns the loss of 1960 Olympic gold medalist Walt Bellamy who passed away Saturday. The 6-11 center averaged 7.9 ppg. with the historic '60 U.S. Olympic squad. Bellamy, who was named an all-American at Indiana University, was the No. 1 choice in the 1961 NBA Draft; was the 1962 Rookie of the Year; a four-time All-Star; and was named a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.
always been a problem for Knicks Willis Reed and Walt Bellamy, Spencer Haywood and Bob McAdoo, Patrick Ewing and Bill Cartwright
Walt Bellamy, Hall of Famer and Footnote, Dies at 74 - (NY Times)

I'm watching Lew Alcindor in his 1st game and Walt Bellamy simply cannot guard him. Must've been for Lew.
This is Lew Alcindor being guarded by Walt Bellamy in 1969. Bellamy is listed at 6'11". What does that make Lew?
This Rodman/ Kim Jong-Un thing is eerily reminiscent of the time Walt Bellamy went in halfsies on a Hamptons share w Nicolae C…
People with the same last name that couldn't possibly be more different? Ralph and Walt Bellamy? Cosmo and Wayne Kramer? Vladimir and John Len.oh forget that one. Herbert and Brenda Spencer?

Jerry West, Pistol Pete Maravick, Bob McAdoo, Lou Hudson, Walt Frazier, Julius Irving, Akime EIllijowan. Walt Bellamy, David Thompson, Bryant are the best players to put on Basket ball uniforms in my day (add to the list)
The criticism and ringless talk of Carmelo Anthony continues which is ridiculous and stupid. Why? because this mans career in the NBA is Far from over & remember guys like Chris Mullin, Shawn Kemp, Dave Bing, Connie Hawkins, Bernard King, Walt Bellamy, Nate Thurmond, Lenny, Wilkens, George Gervin, Alex English, Pete Maravich, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins, Patrick Ewing, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, & Elgin Baylor went their entire careers (ABA & NBA) without winning NBA championships & to be realistic with you if Lebron would have stayed in cleveland he's still be ringless. Melo's Career is fare from over. He can't do it alone and organizations that intend on having him as a player have to realize that. & so do all you critics & analyst out there
37 gold legends now! I got pat Ewing, Walt Bellamy, and PENNY HARDAWAY!
With 23 games left for Miami Heat, LBJ (20,637pts.) will surpassed this 3 NBA greats in career scoring leaders Walt Bellamy (20,941pts.),Bob Pettit (20,880pts.) and David Robinson(20,790).
With Michael Jordan turning 50 and Lebron James going on an incredible streak the past couple of weeks ESPN, other networks, and a lot of fans have gone stat crazy. Here's a look at the most dominant player ever (especially just by the stats). He's the reason the NBA lane is 16 feet. It started at 6 feet. People can say he was facing inferior competition, but the average center he faced was 6'10" tall. When he was in The NBA Bill Russell, Nate Thurmond, Bob Lanier, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Walt Bellamy, Spencer Haywood, Willis Reed, Elvin Hayes, Dave Cowens, and Wes Unseld (all Hall of Famers) were active. The NBA’s Wilt Chamberlain (1959-1973) at a glance. 7'1" 265 lbs. 48" measured vertical leap. The NBA’s rookie leader with season averages of 37.6 ppg and 27 rpg. And single game highs of 58 points and 45 rebounds. A career double double-double of 30.1 ppg and 22.9 rpg. Only player to average over 50 ppg and score over 4,000 points in a season. Only player to score 100 points in a game. Scored 60 or m . ...
Also a few side notes: Bill Russell is most overrated athlete ever! Bob Pettit is most underrated NBA player ever. Nobody talks about Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, Gary Payton, Walt Bellamy, Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel, Billy Cunningham, James Worthy, Bob McAdoo, Hal Greer, Alex English, Adrian Dantley, Dennis Rodman, Dominique Wilkins, Vince Carter, Mitch Richmond, Tom Chambers, or Elvin Hayes anywhere near enough. LeBron can and probably will in my opinion end up 2nd best NBA player of all time (never number one) with or without multiple rings (team accomplishment people even in basketball) Bill Russell had 8 hall of famers on his teams and hall of fame coach only 3 to 7 other teams made playoffs back then and way fewer teams and players in league far smaller players and fewer centers of any size as well stupid to keep thinking of him in top 20 to 30 players, couldn't even score. Malone, Stockton, Barkley, Wilkins, Baylor, Chambers, Maravich, Gervin, and many other greats 0 rings, Drexler, Richmond, Mos . ...
I was asked yesterday who in my estimation was the most underrated athlete in the history of sports. I sat down and mulled over the many possible responses. Lefty Grove, Satchel Paige, Lenny Moore, Bullet Bob Hayes, Ray Guy, Adrian Dantly, Walt Bellamy, Frank Robinson, Tim Brown, Steve Largent, Sterling Sharpe, Curtis Martin, David Robinson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Ralph Sampson, Bronco Nagurski, Red Grange, Larry Robinson, Jim Kelly and Sammy Baugh all crossed my mind. Each undervalued in reflection, all deserving of higher distinctions. The more I thought about it though, the more I discerned that there was one player who clearly fit the bill more than any other. Stan 'The Man' Musial, 3-time MVP and 22-time All-Star, played in 22 professional seasons, had 3,630 hits in his MLB career; 1,815 at home and 1,815 on the road and could pitch/field with the best. A more consistent and loyal player there has never been - he defined a city and a franchise for generations. Every bit the player that Say Hey Willie Ma .. ...
Just look at the photos and tell me “Who in today's NBA could stop Wilt Chamberlain?” His offensive arsenal included finger rolls, fall away jumpers from 15 feet out and yes dunks. He didn't dunk that often as you may think as he did not want to hurt other players. Defence? Wow! No centre has ever had his quickness or the ability to get off the floor quicker. Remember he was also MVP of the pro volleyball league. When 6-11 rookie Walt Bellamy entered the NBA and was averaging 30 points per game in his first game against Wilt his shots were blocked nine straight times in the first half! In his middle 40s’ Wilt routinely blocked a young LA Lakers’ Magic Johnson’s shots in pick-up games at UCLA. As a college kid at Kansas Wilt would dunk on 12 foot rims. No greater rebounder in the game. Ever. In his prime in today's NBA Wilt would average 30-35 points, 20-25 rebounds and 7-10 blocked shots per game.
Iverson, Connie Hawkins , Walt Bellamy are a few more
December 19th in Basketball History 1899 - Right: Hall of Fame coach Tony Hinkle, who won 561 games and a national championship at Butler University, is born in Logansport, Indiana. 1915 - Phil Woolpert, who coached San Francisco to two straight NCAA basketball titles, is born in Danville, Kentucky. 1957 - Hall of Fame Boston Celtics forward Kevin McHale is born in Hibbing, Minnesota. 1964 - Arvydas Sabonis (right), considered by many to be the greatest European player of the Twentieth Century, is born in Kaunas, Lithuanian SSR. 1968 - The New York Knicks trade Walt Bellamy and Howard Komives to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Dave DeBusschere. With DeBusschere, the Knicks go on to their most successful seasons in history, capturing their only two NBA titles. In that same period the Pistons made the playoffs only twice. 2005 - The Dallas Mavericks fine guard Darrell Armstrong $1,000. The previous night he grabbed a microphone before a Mavs home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves and yelled, "How ...
Wilt Chamberlain once shook Walt Bellamy's hand before the opening tip, promised Bellamy that he would get demolished, destroyed him for an entire half, and then told him before the second half tip "Okay, now you can score.
Like baseball? I LOVE baseball! In fact, I'm working on a book that will select an all-time all-star team for each state. For instance, here is my NC line-up: CF Otis Nixon 3B BuddyLewis RF Enos Slaughter LF Josh Hamilton 1B Buck Leonard DH Smoky Burgess 2B Tommy Helms C Rick Ferrell SS Hal Lanier (This ends the batting order--now the pitchers. CL= closer). SP Catfish Hunter SP *** Perry SP Wes Ferrell SP Mike Caldwell CL Hoyt Wilhelm State of orientation, not state of birth, is the factor for selection. (Thus Luke Appling is Georgia's shortstop, not NC's. Too bad for NC.) Arguments, anyone? Now the basketball line-up PG: Phil Ford (I gave Pete Maravich to SC, like Sports Illustrated.) WG: Michael Jordan (no arguments here) SF: David Thompson (my bud) PF: James Worthy (Though Bobby Jones and Buck Willams make a case) C: Walt Bellamy (over Brad Daugherty and Tommy Burleson)
In honor of the 2012 London Olympic Games, did you know that Indiana Basketball has produced gold medalists in the 1960, 1976 and 1984 Games? Walt Bellamy (1960), Quinn Buckner (1976), Scott May (1976), Steve Alford (1984), Bob Knight (1984) and Tim Garl (1984) GO HOOSIERS!!!
