Wall Street & Big Business

Wall Street refers to the financial district of New York City, named after and centered on the eight-block-long street running from Broadway to South Street on the East River in Lower Manhattan. Big business is a term used to describe large corporations, in either an individual or collective sense. 5.0/5

When the Supreme Court decided the Citizens United case, there was a great hue and cry from both Democratic politicians and the public. The Court had ruled that corporations are persons within the meaning of the First Amendment, and that they have the right to political free speech. Political free speech, in America, means the freedom to bribe candidates for office and elected public officials. Political bribery is the means special interests and Big Business employ to ensure that legislators vote their way. That they get special tax treatment. That their industries aren't too regulated. That they get sweetheart contracts from government. That consumers and employees do not gain enough power to impact business. Political bribery is what makes the US a fascist country. Fascism isn't stiff-arm salutes and goose-stepping troops. It is the merger of corporate and government power. And it is no more in evidence anywhere on Earth than in the halls of the US government. So long as Congressional limitations on po ...
We should hold uber to the same high standards we hold for Public Utilities, Schools, Government, Big Business and Wall Street. Wait, what?
" I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American Republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents." - ...
Before the end of the year, there's a bipartisan-- in the worst sense of the word-- push to renew tax breaks for special interests, generally special interests that bribe Members of Congress with massive campaign contributions. Two of the sleaziest characters in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, a Wall Street Democrat, and Mitch Mcconnell, Big Business' top senatorial *** are shamelessly leading the charge. - See more at:
Smaller Government is not about furloughing people, firing people, laying off people, It is about cutting the wasteful spending that our Leaders have done over a period of decades. It is about giving Tax Breaks for years to the top 1%. It is about de-regulating big corporation whereby the workers are at risk of injury & or death, it is about taking the Cap off of payroll deductions for Soc. Sec. It is about getting rid of Subsidies to Big Business like Big Oil & corp that sent American Jobs over seas, it is about catering to the big money given to leaders on the hill to do their bidding, but not the Average Americans bidding. It is about all the pork over many decades that was given to their states, districts etc. It is about allowing Wall Street & Big Banks to get away with their Bad Behavior & not paying the consequences of that bad behavior. It is all about SOLUTIONS to the PROBLEMS that they the Leaders have created over decades by ALL PARTIES, no one is EXCEMPT from these problems. But it see ...
There are three things congressional Republicans should do now to win the battle with President Obama over the continuing resolution. They are good for the country and popular with the people. 1. What’s Good for Big Business Is Good For The American People Demand that the individual mandate be postponed for a year, just as President Obama did—again, illegally—with the business mandate. Why should Big Business get a stay of execution from this dreadful legislation and not the American people? Make this another non-negotiable demand. A postponement would be immensely popular and would be a huge setback to ObamaCare. 2. Don’t Tamper With Medicare! Demand that no money from Medicare be diverted to financing ObamaCare. Be the champions of protecting the integrity of Medicare. Let’s enjoy the spectacle of Harry Reid and the White House opposing this. This demand will also be popular with defunding-minded Republicans. 3. Eat Your Own Cooking Under ObamaCare Congress and its staff are supposed to bu ...
“It’s five years this month since the collapse of the financial services firm Lehman Brothers, and we’re still waiting on the perp walk of a millionaire to jail.” I wrote in my Thursday column – just posted in my online archives: Big Banks have gotten too big, said U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who’s criticized U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for failing to fully investigate or prosecute Wall Street and condemned the U.S. Supreme Court as a “subsidiary of Big Business.” Warren said Big Banks should not be “too big to fail or, for that matter, too big to manage, too big to regulate, too big for trial, or too big for jail.”
Someone said my page was too far left to which I gave the following reply: "My conclusions about the state of politics in America has been formed from extensive research. I was once brainwashed by the far-right. I once believed the Republican nonsense about free-markets. The truth is we have corruption in our Political System which impacts both sides (left and right). Both sides receive money from Wall Street and Big Business, which significantly corrupts their judgment. That said, the Democrats are still pushing for policies which will strengthen the Middle Class and create jobs here in America. There is plenty I do not like about the Democrats, but the fact remains they are trying to invest in education, infrastructure, and scientific research. Additionally they want to raise the minimum wage and they have taken steps to greatly improve our healthcare system through the Affordable Care Act. On issues of freedom Democrats are hands down ahead of the Republicans. Democrats support *** rights, women's righ ...
America it seems, cannot find the political strength to do what is necessary to fix the global architecture. More free markets and financial liberation - all under the mantra of the Washington Concensus - cannot be supported if those markets and players are not regulated. The world today is under the yoke of a capitalist plutocracy that reaps benefit from the misery of millions all around the world. How is it that the Sub-Prime Crisis in America can lead to millions world-wide losing their life savings - is a question that many are perplexed by. It is unfortunate that this situation is allowed to persist unchecked. It seems to me that the current Obama Administration and future Administrations - ought to make Financial Regulation of Wall Street a major issue. It cannot be left to those with a vested interest in Big Business. If America fails to call to account these financial plutocrats - then I fear that she may lose the respect and trust of some of her allies. What is important to remember - is that Ame ...
Financed by a few wealthy families & Wall Street interests, bolstered by systematic attempts to suppress the vote & intimidate working class voters, even employing a strategy of threatening to close down businesses if their candidate loses the election, 2012 was hardly the first time the GOP used anti-democratic tactics in a presidential race. The election of 1896, which pitted populist Democrat William Jennings Bryan against Big Business *** William Mckinley, was the model for how conservatives would use electoral politics to undermine democracy and promote plutocracy. If the Karl Rove role was played by Mark Hanna, Adelson & the Koch Brothers were certainly J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie & John Rockefeller. bit.ly/110dHhQ
"Several Republican congressmen are extremely concerned with House Armed Services Chairman Buck McKeon's immense and unreported gambling debts to Organized Crime figure-- and possible agent of at least one foreign power-- Sheldon Adelson. More than a few Democrats are concerned that their party caucus is about to elevate one of its most corrupt members, Joe Crowley (R-NY), to an important leadership position. Crowley, who was recently let off the hook for the House Ethics Committee-- along with Republican Tom Price in an apparent *** for-tat deal-- after he was caught trading votes on the House Ways and Means Committee for K Street lobbyist cash. In the middle of the intense fight over the Wall Street reform bill, Crowley and Price left the House to attend a fundraiser thrown by Wall Street lobbyists and then, pockets bulging with checks, returned to vote against the amendments opposed by Big Business. One member of the committee told me that Crowley was the sleaziest Democrat on the committee and that he ...
"This is not about the haves vs the have nots; its about the have it all vs the rest of America." Hollywood saw it coming 25 years ago! See the clip of Michael Douglas in the movie "Wall Street" within the Moyer video below. "If you‘ve missed this edition of Moyers & Company, we hope you’ll watch before you cast your ballot on Tuesday. And if you’ve already seen it, take another look and remind yourself as you prepare to enter the voting booth of how we’ve been maneuvered by Wall Street and Beltway insiders, politically engineered into a state of inequality and the disproportionate power of a very few." In its premiere episode, Moyers & Company dives into one of the most important and controversial issues of our time: How Washington and Big Business colluded to make the super-rich richer and turn their backs on the rest of us. Bill’s guests – Jacob Hacker and Paul Pierson, authors of Winner-Take-All Politics: How Washington Made the Rich Richer — And Turned Its Back on the Middle Class, arg ...
Don't worry, the person we elect will be good for Big Business. Otherwise, we would have Rick Santorum and Dennis Kucinich running against each other. I'm afraid both of our current choices are willing to bend to the wants of Wall Street. One's a people pleaser; the other an ad man.
"Today the forces of liberalism face a crisis. The people of the United States must make a choice between two ways of living -- a decision which will affect us the rest of our lives and our children and our grandchildren after us. The Republican's have not changed much in the last 60 years. A political conundrum, made clear by President, Harry S. Truman: "On the other side, there is the Wall Street way of life and politics. Trust the leader! Let big business take care of prices and profits! Measure all things by money! That is the philosophy of the masters of the Republican Party. Well, I have been studying the Republican Party for over 12 years at close hand in the Capital of the United States. And by this time, I have discovered where the Republicans stand on most of the major issues. Since they won't tell you themselves, I am going to tell you. They approve of the American -- but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home -- but not for housing. They are strong ...
Today I awake with the thought of why the Political System in the U.S. is so screwed up. Every side is saying the other side is the reason for our economical situation. Lets take a look at what it really is... Big Business is refusing to hire. Small Business is not supported. Governmental Aid is based on political affiliation. Then to top it off...Wall Street is flourishing and is ungrateful for the bail outs. So we must really think about how much longer we (the Average Joe) will keep accepting this BS. Our Great Country was formed from true freedom. We need to get back to this. True Free Enterprise. Freedom of Speech. Freedom to be FREE!!! On another note, We have set up all of these new Democratic Republics and they are crumbling. This is the best examples that shows the world that Democracy is not for EVERYONE. So we should just let what happens to them happen.
I understand neither political party in America is perfect but I would however like to point out a few things. The Republican Tea Party and yes I refer to the Tea Party as part of the Republican Party because they have essentially taken over what used to be a party that would compromise. As long as I can remember the Working Middle Class and the poor have always fared better under a Government with Democrats in control while businesses and the wealthy fared better under a Government with Republicans in control. The same can be said for the judicial system. I look back since I was 16 and researched how the socioeconomic classes of Americans fared from 1978 forward and the above statement proved out. Over the last 20 yrs the Republican Party has drifted farther and farther to the right and walked away from Middle Class America about the same time Big Business broke their unwritten agreement with the American Labor Force and started closing down businesses and shipping jobs to other countries and over the ...

Politics... I dislike politics. I've been a registered Independent since I was 18. I always figured Big Business ran the globe, and so, as long as there was an electoral college, who votes for whatever interest group has bought them anyway, there was really no point in getting to charged up about the Presidential election. (Recent case in point, the hanging chad election, which put the worst President ever in office, Bush Jr.) This past 4 years have done nothing to change that view, but have helped to re-inforce my perspective. ie. Elect someone who has to clean up after his predecessor (at LEAST 2 year project), in the interim, get people in that would impede him from progressing (elect a republican congress who will stall or kill any reforms the current democratic leader attempts), and wait to the next election, claiming the former pres wasn't adequate, just so big business can get one of theirs in again to rape the middle and lower class and make more money that they can pocket. I have learned, "trickl ...
I am running as an "Independent - Write - In - Candidate" for Representative from the 4th Massachusetts Congressional District, against Republican Sean Bielat, and Democrat Joe kennedy III.and several others.!! May ideas are 100% better than theirs, and I will make everyones' life better and more comfortable to live...!! I will truly Represent Y O U..!! They represent Big Government, Big Banks, Big Business, and Insider Traders on Wall Street.!! It's your decision, make the right choice, or continue to pay for bad choices, by voting for people who do not represent Y O U..for one Iota...!!
President Bush demanded bailouts of Wall Street and Detroit in late 2008, most Republicans said no. Today in the U.S. House there are only six Republicans who voted yes on the auto bailout and both bank bailout votes. One of those congressmen is Paul Ryan... In the Bush era, Republicans spoke of free markets and limited government, but they regularly expanded the government when Big Business asked them to. And Paul Ryan consistently took the Big Business-Big Government side."
I don't usually believe in conspiracies; however, I do think there was definite collusion going on in Big Banks and Big Business and Wall Street in cahoots with the Koch Bros. et al to convince people to buy homes backed by toxic mortgages with variable interest fees and at the same time decimate the Middle Class by laying people off or not giving them raises; and then Big Banks insured themselves against the toxic mortgages not being paid and sold those mortgages to Wall Street as securities.what a vicious, ugly, horrible circle of deceit that was!
Custom Rider You really should keep your misogynistic comments to yourself...and you certainly didn't have to post that... The comparison that includes the word "slaves" and the first elected Black president in the same tirade is hard to not interpret as a racist tirade. Especially considering George Bush brought us to economic collapse after fighting 2 wars for 8 years that cost us $40 Billion dollars a month. Bush inherited the largest Surplus in US history and wasted it while serving Big Business and not the American people. Wall Street and Big corporations got richer while the tax payers footed the bill and we are still climbing out of the deep pit that 8 years of Republican rule and George W. Bush dug for us...to say that Obama's economic plan has failed is stretching the truth quite a bit...yes unemployment is high and...no the 3.5 years of Obama's presidency didn't cause that...yes, the economic recovery is shaky but that reflects how deep was the Bush 8 year economic & military policy pit that was ...
Ah Yes! Kill Medicare and SELL Social Security to "Big Business," give to the Rich and Take from the poor, give Wall Street a Get Out Of Jail FREE card ... Forever, blame the President for what happened under "Bush-Cheney" AND the Current REPUBLICAN Do "Nothing" Congress. Maybe if they Shout it LOUD enough, the American people will cover their Ears, as WELL as their eyes!
Paul Kengor, author of Mercury Ink’s latest book The Communist, believes you cannot understand a man if you don’t know his mentor. As it turns out, President Obama had a mentor that we know absolutely nothing about – Frank Marshall Davis, a card carrying member of Communist Party USA. The left and the media have conveniently ignored Davis (and the fact that he is mentioned in Obama’s book, Dreams From My Father, a staggering 22 times), but Kengor has found indisputable facts about the man Obama regards as a mentor that will make your head spin. Davis was so radical the FBI placed him on the government Security Index, and his FBI file exceeds 600 pages in length. A columnist by trade, Davis edited and wrote for communist newspapers around the U.S., where he frequently used words like ‘change’ and ‘fundamental transformation.’ His writings indicate that he demonized big business, despised oil companies, considered Wall Street to be a group of “greedy millionaires,” and bashed Republican ...
This weekend, continuing its sharp multi-episode focus on the intersection of money and politics, Moyers & Company explores the tight connection between Wall Street and the White House with David Stockman – yes, that David Stockman — former budget director…
What's the Impact of Cory Booker's "Nauseated" remarks on "Meet the Press"? I believe this situation has taught Mayor Booker a Valuable Lesson. PUT YOUR FAITH & TRUST IN GOD NOT MAN BECAUSE HUMAN BEINGS WILL FLIP ON YOU! Cory Booker is a Politician just like Pres. Obama! So how can Pres. Obama's people criticize Booker for sticking up for Big Business when Wall Street gave Pres. Obama $42 Million back in 2008? That Seems Hypocritical to me. And. I don't recall Cory Booker speaking about Pres. Obama's campaign in a Nasty way Sunday on "Meet the Press" do You? As usual he was articulate, intelligent & polite. Just like Pres. Obama conducts himself. So what's the Problem? Isn't Mayor entitled to his OWN Opinion? I mean all Booker did was offer Pres. Obama's people some Constructive Criticism. He was NOT Mean, Negative or Divisive. So what's the Problem? Why is the BLACK Community & Mainstream Media now Bashing & Ostracizing Mayor Booker? I personally think that there were People within the Democratic Party ( ...
Willard Romney is the "Anti-President". He's Anti everything. He's anti poor, abortion, immigration, labor, healthcare, regulations, *** and privacy. He's for taxes for everyone but the top 2%. He's for Big Oil, Big Business, Wall Street crooks, and apparently elevators for his cars. No choice there for a thinking, caring person.
