Students of University of Port Harcourt call for sack of their Vice Chancellor.
My Friend, my mentor and my V.C. in ESUT has become the minister of power. CHINEDU OSITADINMA NEBO, Minister of Power-Nigeria Chinedu Ositadinma Nebo, born June 3, 1952 in Kafanchan in Kaduna State of Nigeria to Mr. Christopher and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nebo of Udi in Enugu State was appointed on the 4th February 2013 as the new Minister of Power for the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the President His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR. Prior to this appointment, Professor Nebo was the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (February 201 - February 2013), one of the nine (9) new start-up Federal universities in Nigeria and prior to that he was Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), between 2004 and 2009, serving meritoriously and successfully with several awards to his credit. Professor Nebo, a diversified and detribalized Nigerian in every sense, had his primary education in Ibadan, Kafanchan, and Port Harcourt; a result of the nature of his father's work while engaged with the Ni ...
Prof. Pius Adesanmi wrote: .For the umpteenth time, we must warn career Jonathanians that what their Orisha holds is not a doctor of philosophy. President Jonathan holds a Powerful High Degree. I am still interested in seeing his dissertation. President Jonathan's intellectual shallowness is a permanent indictment of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Port Harcourt. The Dean of Graduate Studies and the Vice Chancellor of Uniport ought to be taken to the Eagle Square and publicly flogged. President Jonathan is arguably the worst advertisement for their graduate programme. Put him on stage with Sule Lamido (A secondary school certificate holder from Barewa college) on any issue and Lamido will floor him completely.
The Rivers e-Library? As I waited for my flight back to Port Harcourt yesterday, my eyes needed to read. I pulled out a tablet and thought it would be nice to scan for updates on the activities of the Chadian-Nigerian demons of the North East. Before I could refresh, an update by my good friend Kelvin hit me. He had shared the good news posted by a certain Ibim Seminatari that the state long expected e-library was finally up. Exciting! I thought. I had done a long search in Barnes & Noble, New York for Nigerian authors, and had only managed a feeble smile as only two Nigerian authors, Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Adichie, made their shelves. During my long scan, I bumped into Prof. Nimi Briggs, former Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, and Chairman, Rivers Economic Advisory Council. He told me of the laudable technology integration planning work he and his team were working on. I thought it was a great idea. As we parted, the renegade in me wondered if the prof ever advises the governor or if t ...
Overheard with one ear from Kenyan newspaper, Daily Nation: Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho earned his degree from Kampala University legitimately, the institution's Vice Chancellor has said. Speaking to reporters in Nairobi on Sunday, Prof Badru Kateregga said Mr Joho attended the university from 2009 to 2012. “As far as Kampala University is concerned, the degree awarded to Mr Hassan Ali Joho is bonafide, lawful and authentic. (It) was genuinely awarded and Kampala University Senate cannot and will not recall, revoke or cancel an award that it deems to be valid, authentic and genuinely awarded,” he said. The Uganda National Council for Higher Education has doubted the validity of Mr Joho's degree. “There was no clear evidence that academic due process was followed from admission to graduation regarding a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Human Resource Management option) awarded to Mr Hassan Ali Joho by Kampala University,” the council said in a resolution. It will be recalled that Zenith Bank reached an agreement with the Rivers State Government to build the school. Amaechi spoke when the Acting Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, Reverend Walter Eneji, led a delegation of principal officers, including the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, on a courtesy visit to him at the Government House in Port Harcourt. “One thing I can tell you is that the things I had promised you before, like the Aluu Road, I will do. UNIPORT KILLED STUDENT The unwholesome pictures and video clips all over the social media last week about the summary execution of four students of the University of Port Harcourt have continued to make news with all sorts of story lines. In this report, Bolaji Ogundele narrates the agony of the victims' parents as well as the various stories about the victims and the questions bugging them. IT started out as “they had it coming, all robbers must die shameful death”. But that was still in the earlier hours of Friday, probably while their un-commissioned executioners were still at the task of murdering innocence. By mid-day same day, the story had started gaining a life of its own, something the earlier commentators never imagined could turn up. Then by the time the unsightly pictures and the repugnant video of the gruesome 'jungle justice', something reminiscent of videos from civil war ravaged Liberia started filling the social media space, the tune changed. But the parents never did have it coming. ...

Prof. Olusola Oyewole VC, Fed. Uni. of Agric, Abeokuta: Life as a locomotive driver’s son Our Reporter November 5, 2012 For Professor Olusola Oyewole, the fifth substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), growing up in a polygamous family of a locomotive engine driver was challenging. But it was nevertheless interesting. “Challenges are part of human beings, because they are necessary for one to become great in life,” he says. “As a mortal, one must face challenges, but when they come, as they must come, they must not be stumbling block. They should be seen as a phase in life that has come and must go. When challenges come, you learnt and move ahead. Challenges should not be a stumbling block to one’s prospects in life. He was born in Kaduna on September 30, 1955 to a railway locomotive driver father. While his father hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, his mother hails from Ogbomoso, Osun State. Oyewole read microbiology, but he is today a professor of ...
The Amanyanabo of Abonnema, King Disreal Bob-Manuel, who spoke at a press conference shortly after a protest march in Port Harcourt, said that Kula, Suku, Idama, Elem-Sangarma and other communities purportedly ceded to Bayelsa had been part of the Kalabari kingdom right from the creation of old Rivers State in 1967, adding that even after the creation of Bayelsa State in 1996, the communities were still part of Rivers State. King Bob-Manuel said that Bayelsa State’s claim to the area was borne out of the greed for oil and gas money, as opposed to genuine interest in the development of the affected communities. The traditional ruler also faulted the decision of the National Boundary Commission to cede part of Kalabari kingdom to Bayelsa State based on the 11th edition of the administrative map of Nigeria which adjusted the boundary between the two states from Santa Barbara river to the Sombreiro river, thereby depriving the kalabari people of their communities. Also speaking, Chief Emmanuel Awoyesuku reg ...

Aluu 4: Barbarism at Dawn: UNENDING IMPUNITY IHRHL have received with utter shock, the demotion of Dr. Andrew Ofemini, former Chair of ASUU, and Head of Department of Philosophy, University of Port Harcourt, on the floor of the Senate sitting, earlier today. His offence? He solidarized with protesting students at the University yesterday, where he addressed them, and referred to the roasting of the Aluu 4, as inhuman and unacceptable, and called on the state authorities to take effective action, to stall such dastard extermination in future. At the Senate sitting, the Vice Chancellor had asked Dr. Ofemini to explain his role in the event of yesterday, which he politely did. Right there, the Vice Chancellor called on the Dean of Philosophy who was present at the meeting to remove Dr. Ofemini as Head of Department. Period! Ordained! Perhaps Dr. Ofemini should have supported the barbarism at dawn. This is the kind of impunity that permeate every aspect of living in Rivers State. This is the kind of impun ...
