"The investigation had revealed new information about the plan to oust the Venezuelan government. He alleged that the plot not only threatened the life of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, but also the foundations of the Venezuelan constitution. "The evidence shows they were trying to find a way to ASSASSINATE THE HEAD OF STATE and other leaders of the Bolivarian Revolution,” said Maduro. As part of the investigation, the Venezuelan authorities gathered hundreds of emails from political figures. According to Maduro, the emails are IRREFUTABLE PROOF of the conspiracy against Venezuela by the far right with the support of the US State Department. “All of the emails were gathered legally,” said Maduro, adding that more evidence would be revealed later this week."

US inciting civil war in Venezuela to get its oil – Bolivia’s Morales: Addressing over 3,000 young people at a Latin American Youth Summit in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz, Morales branded the US an “empire” with its eye on Venezuelan oil wealth. Morales said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was blameless in the recent wave of unrest in the country and accused Washington of orchestrating a civil war. “I believe [the US] are trying to incite if not a coup d’état then a civil war from their empire,” Morales said. “They are always going to sponsor internal conflict so that they can interfere and invade us to take control of our oil reserves.” The world needs an “anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist and anti-colonial youth,” said Morales, urging Latin Americans to stand together in solidarity with Venezuela. Morales said there was no danger of a coup d’état in Bolivia since the government had ejected US Ambassador Phillip Golberg in 2008 after he was accused of collaborating i ...

When Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the arrest last week of three Air Force generals for plotting a coup, it wasn't a big surprise. The military, after all, has played a role in the country's political disputes before — in 2002, Maduro’s mentor and predecessor, Hugo Chavez, was removed from office for a whopping 47 hours by a coup that was reversed by loyalist officers. But while the three Air Force generals may very well have links to the "opposition sectors" as Maduro claims, they still wouldn't be the greatest threat he faces from his military commanders. That's because the generals he should — and almost certainly does — fear are the ones who have become immensely wealthy through the free-for-all Chavismo political ideology championed by Chavez and continued by Maduro. They may ostensibly be on his side, but they will not stand by and watch Maduro allow the system to collapse. Maduro’s fate depends on whether he can calm the demonstrations sparked by escalating crime and Sovie ...

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has said that three air force generals have been arrested for plotting an uprising against his government. Mr Maduro said that the authorities had been tipped off by "young officers". The three generals, who have not been named, had links with the opposition, said Mr Maduro. The arrests are the latest development in nearly two months of political unrest, which have cost the lives of at least 32 people. Mr Maduro's comments were made during a meeting with a delegation of foreign ministers of the Unasur regional bloc, which was sent to Venezuela to *** the political crisis. "The generals who have been detained have direct links with opposition sectors and were saying that this week was going to be decisive," said Mr Maduro. They were planning to create "chaos in the public services, power cuts across Venezuela," Mr Maduro added
Press TV Venezuelan has been the scene of a wave of anti-government demonstrations since early February. The protests began in early February in the western states of Tachira and Merida and then spread to Caracas started on 12 February. Protesters’ grievances include the longstanding problems of crime and corruption, high inflation and other economic problems such as shortages of basic food items. The protests in Caracas turned deadly when three people were shot by gunmen. President Nicolas Maduro blames the opposition for the security and economic problems. US Vice President Joe Biden says Venezuela's political and social situation is alarming and accuses Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of inventing conspiracies by Washington to distract attention from the South American country's troubles. The Organization of American States (OAS) has, however, supported the government of Venezuela. Twenty-nine OSA states voted in favor of the declaration with only the US, Canada and Panama objecting. The protests ...

Ruben Navarrette is a Washington Post columnist. Pay attention to Venezuela By Ruben Navarrette POSTED: 03/01/2014 05:00:00 PM PST SAN DIEGO -- Selma. Mexico City. Johannesburg. Tiananmen. Tehran. Kiev. Caracas. We've seen this movie before. When people are brave enough to stand up for freedom against repressive governments intent on maintaining their grip on power, the process is usually messy -- and often bloody. In between ducking batons and dodging bullets, they wait to see if the world cares what happens to them. They're the little guy being beaten by a big guy, hoping that an even bigger guy comes to the rescue. In Venezuela, for the last few weeks, blood has stained the streets of Caracas and other major cities. It started with massive student protests on Feb. 12 against the social and economic "crisis" plaguing the country -- corruption, high crime rates, skyrocketing inflation, etc. -- under a government they consider illegitimate. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro responded with violence, as . ...

VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis appealed Wednesday for reconciliation in Venezuela to end three weeks of deadly anti-government protests in the oil-rich but deeply divided country.   "I sincerely hope that violence and hostility will cease as soon as possible, and that the whole Venezuelan people, beginning with political leaders and institutions, will endeavour to promote reconciliation," he said during his weekly audience at the Vatican.   The Argentinian pope called for "mutual forgiveness and a sincere dialogue, respectful of truth and justice" to restore calm to the largely Catholic country.   Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sought Wednesday to hold a "peace conference" to end a movement that has left at least 14 dead, but the main opposition leader has refused to attend.   Maduro says the protests are a US-inspired assault on his democratic rule, less than a year since he was elected to succeed the late leftist icon Hugo Chavez, whose policies he has continued.   EFE Photo

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has admitted that taking TV network NTN 24 off cable systems was “a State decision.”
My thoughts go out to those in Venezuela. In November 2013, the National Assembly voted to give Maduro decree powers for one year, which allowed him to create laws on his own, without going through the legislative process. The country is now struggling with one of the world's highest inflation rates, chronic food shortages and a currency black market where the dollar trades at 10 times the official rate. At least 2 were killed today in protests against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's year-old government. Maduro's reponse was to control the media- he disallowed them to post anything regarding the violence or the poverty happening in Venezuela. My thoughts are with those trying to survive while pursuing change. "If we don't do it now, then when? And if it's not us, who will?"

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Human rights groups are condemning Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro for what they say is a campaign to squash demonstrations against his government. The past two weeks 13 anti-government activists have been arrested for protesting everything from mounting economic hardships to the presence of a team from communist Cuba at a baseball tournament. A coalition of 10 local rights groups said Tuesday that the use of firearms by police to control crowds and a reliance on anti-terrorism laws to round up activists violate Venezuelans' constitutional right to peaceful protest. Opposition hardliners are calling on Venezuelans to take to the streets Wednesday in what they hope will be their biggest show of force yet. Maduro says opponents are trying to oust him and is urging supporters to stage their own march Wednesday.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has confirmed that his country received an official request for asylum from NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden on Monday. This comes after Nicaragua received his asylum application at its Moscow embassy.
With a pending 2.8 billion years until the end of the world, i think it's too early for world leaders to begin poking their sticking crooked fingers into each others noses and eyes. USA's Obama has of late been receiving constant accusation by some Latin American and European heads of state after last weeks blockade of Bolivian President Evo Morale's jet into the airspace of Italy, Spain and France, on a mistaken suspicion that his jet was also carrying American National Security Agency leaker and fugitive Edward Snowden who is reportedly stuck in Moscow after his passport was annuled by the US Immigration Department. Snowden is reported to have sent request to a score of countries seeking asylum. In a quick response to this request, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and Nicaragua's Josè Daniel Ortega Saavegra nodded and threw the ball into Snowden's pitch and gave him the liberty to decide when to seek refuge in Caracas and Managua alike. Furious Washington is still keeping mum but sending a fiery eye ...
