In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship. Well, as Rreagon would say"...there you go again" Another Republicant LIE (underscore).Q: What’s the deal with Prof. Joseph Olson’s "unreported stats" from the 2008 election? A: This chain e-mail is a hoax. The "statistics" are grossly incorrect, and Prof. Olson says he didn’t write it. Full Answer First, Joseph Olson is a professor at Hamline (not Hemline) University School of Law in St. Paul, Minn. None of what appears in this e-mail was written by him. He has been denying authorship of this old hoax since earlier versions first cropped up after the 2000 election. Most recently he posted a disclaimer about the 2008 version on his university profile page: Olson: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2008 Obama/McCain election and the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I’ve been trying to kill it since December 2000.

Survivors of three Americans killed by targeted drone attacks in Yemen last year sued top-ranking members of the United States government, alleging Wednesday they illegally killed the three, including a 16-year-old boy, in violation of international human rights law and the U.S. Constitution. “The government has killed three Americans. It should account for its actions. This case gives us an opportunity to do that,” Jameel Jaffer, deputy legal director with the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a press call. The suit, (.pdf) is being litigated by the Center for Constitutional Rights and the ACLU. It seeks unspecified damages and highlights the government’s so-called unmanned “targeted killing” program. The ACLU and the Center maintain the drone attacks have killed thousands, including hundreds of innocent bystanders overseas. (Other estimates of the campaign come to widely different conclusions.) The suit, the first of its kind, alleges the United States was not engaged in an armed conflic ...

Good Evening Everyone, I am writing this to ask all of you to join me in supporting Michael McDonald to be our next Stark County Sheriff. Mike is the best person for the job of Sheriff. Mike has come through the ranks at the Sheriff's Office and has attended numerous schools in law enforcement and jail training. Mike attended Northwest University School of Police Staff and Command. This is a very intense school for 10 weeks at 8 to 9 hours of class a day much like the FBI National Academy. Upon graduation you receive 18 college credit hours. Mike has been in charge of the jail and even with a tight budget he watched spending and he has found ways to make some money through programs at the jail for inmates and those funds were used to support operations in the jail. Mike is the BEST choice for the next STARK COUNTY SHERIFF Thank you, Mike Rutledge

he Des Moines Register endorsement Mitt Romney offers a fresh economic vision Ten months ago this newspaper endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the Republican nomination for president. An overarching consideration was which of the party’s candidates could we see occupying the White House, and there was no question that Romney was qualified for the job. Now, in the closing days of the general election campaign, the question is which of the two contenders deserves to be the next president of the United States. Both President Barack Obama and Governor Romney are superbly qualified. Both are graduates of the Harvard University Law School who have distinguished themselves in government, in public service and in private life. Both are devoted husbands and fathers. American voters are deeply divided about this race. The Register’s editorial board, as it should, had a vigorous debate over this endorsement. Our discussion repeatedly circled back to the nation’s single most important challenge: ...
I am just finishing my two amazing weeks in Indonesia, where I have been teaching at the Islamic University Law School in Jogjakarta. The experience has been the best, and truly like no other I have ever had (the work part: teaching classes in mental disability law, international human rights law, criminal law; consulting with the Legal Aid Clinic; the touring part: hiking at the site of an active volcano, visiting stupendous Buddhist and Hindu temples). Tonite was the farewell dinner, and I was so overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and kindness. And then.. driving back in the car to my hotel. Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers came on the radio. And I was singing it along with two Muslim female professors in their late 40s. Wonderful beyond words. Do Crosses at Catholic University Violate “Human Rights” of Muslims? The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers. The investigation alleges that Muslim students “must perform their prayers surrounded by symbols of Catholicism – e.g., a wooden crucifix, paintings of Jesus, pictures of priests and theologians which many Muslim students find inappropriate.” A spokesperson for the Office of Human Rights told Fox News they had received a 60-page complaint against the private university. The investigation, they said, could take as long a six months. The complaint was filed by John Banzhaf, an attorney and professor at George Washington University Law School. Local attorney to start animal welfare group By Wendy Holdren Register-Herald Reporter The Register-Herald Wed Sep 19, 2012, 12:02 AM EDT A local attorney is forming a group in Raleigh County to improve the welfare of animals in southern WV. Missy Lilly, a Beckley native, says she is starting this group because her heart breaks for stray animals roaming the streets begging for food, or when the Humane Society has animals in need of homes. “I believe that starting with education is key to stopping issues like pet overpopulation in our area,” Lilly explained. “However, I am unable to rescue or foster animals and I know many people who are the same. I wanted to begin a group for people who may not be able tofoster or rescue, but who want to help in other ways.” Lilly has worked on state animal issues and was the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund president for two years while attending West Virginia University Law School. She is also a member of many animal organizations on the state and national leve ...
Review "Who but Hadley Arkes could produce a page-turner on classic constitutional cases? Constitutional Illusions and Anchoring Truths is just that-an intellectually thrilling hunt for truths about man, nature and government encoded in decisions so familiar that we have lost awareness of their deepest meanings." -Mary Ann Glendon, Harvard University Law School "With a rare combination of rigor and wit, Professor Arkes sheds new light on the principles animating Supreme Court cases long thought familiar. His penetrating analysis is a welcome challenge to understandings too often taken for granted in the academy and in the courts. The ONLY way to restore the Constitution is to make Obama a one-term president. Support RAV PAC’s Operation Airwaves Obama's actions have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has absolutely no respect for the principles of separation of powers and limited government. Rather than working with members of Congress to forge bipartisan solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems, Obama has instead resorted to stonewalling the people's representatives and ruling as an autocrat. As Jonathan Turley, renowned constitutional law scholar at George Washington University Law School, put it:“The president is using executive power to do things Congress has refused to do, and that does fit a disturbing pattern of expansion of executive power under President Obama...In many ways, President Obama has fulfilled the dream of an imperial presidency that Richard Nixon strived for….this is a president who is now functioning as a super legislator. Last year's National Poetry Contest came down to two finalists. One was a Duke University Law School graduate from an upper crust family; well-bred, well-connected, and all that goes with it. The other finalist was a redneck from Southeast Alabama A&M. The rules of the contest required each finalist to compose a four-line poem in one minute or less, and the poem had to contain the word "Timbuktu". The Duke graduate went first. About thirty seconds after the clock started he jumped up and recited the following poem: Slowly across the desert sand Trekked the dusty caravan. Men on camels, two by two Destination-Timbuktu. The audience went wild! How, they wondered, could the redneck top that?! The clock started again and the redneck sat in silent thought. Finally, in the last few seconds, he jumped and recited: Tim and me, a-huntin' we went. Met three *** in a pop-up tent. They was three, we was two, So I bucked one and Timbuktu!

I am sorry to post the news that Miss Nellie Gray, Founder of the March For Life, died this weekend. Details are still being cleared up at this time. Miss Nellie J. Gray (1924-2012) was an American pro-life activist, who founded the annual March for Life in 1974, following the Supreme Court ruling, Roe v Wade, which decriminalized abortion the previous year. A native of Texas and a Roman Catholic convert, Miss Gray enlisted June 27, 1944 at Camp Bennett, Texas and served as a corporal in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. She later earned a bachelor's degree in business and a master's in economics. She was an employee of the federal government for almost three decades, at the Departments of State and Labor. After attending Georgetown University Law School, she became a practicing lawyer. After Roe v Wade, she retired from her professional life and became a pro-life activist, beginning with the March for Life.

The Justice Department has decided not to ask the Supreme Court to review a controversial federal appeals court decision that said employees may not be prosecuted under a federal anti-hacking statute for simply violating their employer's computer use policy. The 9-2 decision in April by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dealt a blow to the Obama administration, which is invoking the same theory to prosecute alleged WikiLeaks leaker Bradley Manning. The case concerns the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act , which was passed in 1984 to enhance the government's ability to prosecute hackers who accessed computers to steal information or to disrupt or destroy computer functionality. At least, that's what the San Francisco-based appeals court said was the act's purpose. The government, however, has interpreted the anti-hacking provisions to include activities such as violating a website's terms of service or a company's computer usage policy, a position the court ruled means 'millions of unsuspecting individuals ...
My first born son, Cory Rosenberger just left my house after spending the summer with me. It is likely the last time he will actually live in my home. I'm currently armpit-deep in constructing a PowerPoint presentation entitled "Annuities 101" for a lecture I'm giving to an LL.M class at Washington University Law School. I've found that attorneys often know very little about how annuities work, and even less about how they're taxed. It's not their fault, really. Rarely do Law Schools offer any training on that subject. That's unfortunate, given how very easy it is to get a client in trouble by making an inappropriate ownership or beneficiary designation. On the other hand, I should be grateful, as that keeps me busy as a consultant or expert witness.

Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith (July 19, 1904 – Dec 24, 1985) the great-grandson of Abraham Lincoln. In 1975, he became the last undisputed descendant of Lincoln when his sister, "Peggy" Beckwith, died without children. A disputed descendant, Timothy Lincoln Beckwith, was born to Robert Beckwith's then wife, Annemarie Hoffman Beckwith, in 1968. Biography-Beckwith was born in Riverside, Illinois, to Jessie Harlan Lincoln and Warren Beckwith. As a young adult, he showed little interest in his schooling, passing two uneventful years at his grandfather Robert Todd Lincoln's previous boarding school, Phillips Exeter Academy. He then entered prep school in Washington, D.C., and a military academy in New York. He did not attend college, yet was said to have earned a degree from the National University Law School (founded in 1869 and merged with George Washington University Law School in 1954) as an attorney. Despite this, he tended to list his profession as "gentleman farmer of independent means" rather than law ...

Other than being a pretty proud and fortunate Mom to have two awesome sons in their own right, I just have to give my gratitude to God for all things that helped them reach their long sought goals. As I have offered in my morning prayer - Thank you God for paving the way for them to reach this successful point in their respective lives. First, my older son, Scott graduated last September with a degree in Acupuncture, and recently received his license to practice in Oregon. He has always been concerned with our environment, food and health care for people. Today I just got word that my younger son, Bryan just got accepted to Liberty University Law School to strive for being a Constitutional Attorney. Another really Wow fantastic kind of day. I am so excited for both of them as they both have had many challenges to get through. But then again, life isn't easy, but worth it to strive for and endure to the end. Just had to share this before getting more on with the day. I sure love and am grateful for Go ...

Our online volunteer management system gives us an incredible tool to connect volunteers registered in the system to pre-convention volunteer opportunities that make Charlotte communities stronger. Registered volunteers who want to serve in these Legacy projects should log on to their online profile and sign up for these pre-convention volunteer opportunities. Obama has shown his contempt for the law, Congress, and the people by negotiating globalist treaties. He would subvert the American judicial process by implementing the International Criminal Court. It will ultimately be used against American citizens. Professor Charles Rice of Notre Dame University Law School has stated that we will be confronted by “a monster” that effectively “repudiates the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.” The Law of the Sea Treaty will create another international bureaucracy that will limit the sovereignty of the United States and impose globalist regulations. “The autonomy of the United States is threatened if we allow our domestic laws to be crafted by an international body that is not accountable to the American people,”
Duke University Law School has done it again. Exonerated man that was wrongly imprisoned for more than 17 years for a murder he didn't commit. I'm not against the law, there are some hard working DA's and law enforcement officers and investigators who do there job professionally trying to protect us every day. Then you have those who knowingly have information that could exonerate and individual but their motives is Win a case regardless; there motives most of the time is the political future they see for themselves in the future, maybe the DA job which is by election or a future judge by election, so they want those WINS as proof they are a strong advocate for the people and their record for convictions is evident they are against crime. So at the end of the day after they have sentenced another innocent individual the crooked DA's and Investigators go home to the wife and family and enjoy a nice meal, tomorrow starts another day. Prison is *** for the guilty can you IMAGINE what it's like for the ...

This is why the next election is so important !! So how long do you think it will be before we can "change the Court?" The Right has been appointing the youngest justices they can for decades now. The most likely seats to come up any time soon are (in approximate order) Ginsberg, Kennedy, Scalia, and Breyer. Barring Obama's appointments, the least right-wing partisan Justices. Roberts is very, very likely to be Chief Justice for the rest of my life (he's a few years younger than I am and the actuarial tables for justices is heavily skewed towards longevity.) If Romney takes office in January, there's a very good chance that he will end up appointing someone fresh from Liberty University Law School as Ginsberg's replacement. (Well, maybe not all that fresh. Probably around 40 years old.) There's a respectable chance of also replacing Breyer, for a 7-2 Court. Add in the nontrivial prospect that Scalia might decide to retire early for the good of the Party and let someone 20 or more years his junior take his ...
