it was suggested that the term "well regulated militia" does not mean "well regulated militia" in another thread. as y'all are thinking this is about firearms and what the founders, specifically james madison, meant by the, not at all ambiguous wording of the Second Amendment. it didnt take long to find this: “Today’s American Right is drunk on some very bad history, which is as dangerous as it is false.”~Robert Parry * “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The word “militia” is defined in the Constitution itself: “The Congress shall have Power . . . To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress.” [Article 1, ...
I am meeting with a delegation from the Near East and North Africa at 10:00 a.m. this morning in Selma. They have traveled to the United States to meet with various individuals and groups across our nation, and they have asked to meet with me to discuss the Voting Rights Act, the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that demolished Section 5, the film "Selma" and other issues. Our meeting is sponsored by the International Services Council of Alabama. I often meet with groups from around the world, and I look forward to meeting with this delegation today to share with and learn from each of the participants.
Once again...this is one of my favorite moments of the year. American democracy on display! I absolutely love the fanfare leading up to the State of the Union. I always like to see which Supreme Court Justices show up, which congressmen are sitting side-by-side, or who the "designated survivor" is (Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is this years). And my absolute favorite is the announcement the President entering the House chamber. "Mr. Speaker, there President of the United States of America."
Last March, I had the privilege of attending the United States Congressional pilgrimage to Selma, Alabama. The pilgrimage was led by Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis was one of the Selma Marchers fifty years ago. On that day, he was brutally beaten and almost lost his life. By the way, I interviewed him on this trip concerning his remembrances of the relationship between Rev. Martin Luther King and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. The interview is found on the tegreensboro Youtube channel. Selma has been on my mind since last year and even more so with the release of the movie by the same name. The march in Selma was really about voting rights. The subsequent passage of Voting Rights Act of 1965 was indeed one of the most significant events of the entire civil rights era. However, on June 25, 2013, the US Supreme Court held that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act was unconstitutional. It did say that Congress could design another formula for Section 4 based upon “current conditions.” In North .. ...

Both headlines in the press today. “The King of Saudi Arabia is to refer the case of blogger and activist Raif Badawi's to the Supreme Court, his wife has told BBC News. Bismil'Allah Freedom of movement under United States law is governed primarily by the Privileges and Immunities Clause of the United States Constitution which states, "The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States." As far back as the circuit court ruling in Corfield v. Coryell, 6 Fed. Cas. 546 (1823), the Supreme Court recognized freedom of movement as a fundamental Constitutional right. In Paul v. Virginia, 75 U.S. 168 (1869), the Court defined freedom of movement as "right of free ingress into other States, and egress from them."[1] However, the Supreme Court did not invest the Federal Government with the authority to protect freedom of movement. Under the "privileges and immunities" clause, this authority was given to the states, a position the Court held consistently through the years in cases such as Ward v. Maryland, 79 U.S. 418 (1871), the Slaughter-House Cases, 83 U.S. 36 (1873) and United States v. Harris, 106 U.S. 629 (1883).[2][ ...

Obama's record in a nutshell: 1. He refused to allow the prosecution of Black Panthers members in Philadelphia, who threatened voters in the election with knives and batons. 2. Obama bowed and apologized for the "behavior of the United States" to our enemies overseas on his "Apology Tour". 3. Obama forced legislation of a health care bill, behind locked doors, in the middle of the night, against the wishes of 65% of Americans. 4. Obama's administration allowed 2500 weapons to be let across the Mexican border, and into the hands of Mexican drug cartel members, resulting in the death of Border Patrol Agent, Brian Terry and over 200 Mexican civilians. His AG is now being investigated by Congress where he has been proven more than once to be perjuring himself. "Operation Fast and Furious" was an attempt by Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder to promote their anti-gun agenda, and it backfired. 5. "For Native American peoples, the pictures in the Lauren ad campaign serve to commemorate, in a most disrespectful and dehumanizing fashion, a brutal period in United States history when our government forced (sometimes violently) the assimilation and dispossession of Native Americans. The idea of Native Americans as perpetual savages, frozen in time, nostalgically remembered and freely available for cultural appropriation is a familiar and deeply embedded part of our American racial imagination. This image of the Indian as savage can be found in Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence, the presidential speeches of George Washington, binding Supreme Court legal precedents, dimestore novels, comic books, Hollywood westerns and throughout American high fashion, culture and art. It can even be found emblazoned on the helmets of a not-to-be-named professional football team that plays its games in Washington, DC, the nation’s capital. Imperialism and the Politics of Torture By James Petras December 16, 2014 "ICH" - Introduction: The US Senate Report documenting CIA torture of alleged terrorist suspects raises a number of fundamental questions about the nature and operations of the State, the relationship and the responsibility of the Executive Branch and Congress to the vast secret police networks which span the globe – including the United States. CIA: The Politics of a Global Secret Police Force The Senate Report’s revelations of CIA torture of suspects following the 9/11 bombing is only the tip of the iceberg. The Report omits the history and wider scope of violent activity in which the CIA has been and continues to be involved. YOU GUESSED IT, ST.LOUIS..Dred Scott v. "Sandford", 60 U.S. 393 (1857), was a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in which the COURT held that African Americans, whether enslaved or free, could not be American CITIZENS and therefore had no standing to sue in federal court,[2][3] and that the Federal Government had no power to regulate slavery in the federal territories acquired after the CREATION of the United States. Dred Scott, an enslaved African American MAN who had been taken by his owners to free states and territories, attempted to sue for his freedom. In a 7–2 decision written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, the Court denied SCOTT's request. For only the second time in its history the Supreme Court ruled an Act of Congress to be unconstitutional.[4]
WATCH AND SHARE ... WE NEED TO EDUCATE PEOPLE ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EXECUTIVE ORDERS AND LAWS !! LONG READ.. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE FACTS! THEN SHARE!! The SNL Skit video is for those who do not have time to read & understand what Obama just did. This post explains it in a lot more detail! President Obama used Executive action to grant 5 million immigrants living illegally in the United States a form of Amnesty and pathway to Citizenship. How did we get here? Didn’t the president say, even last year, that he couldn’t, and wouldn’t take executive action on immigration? If Obama ever finds himself in a court of law, he would surely be advised to invoke the Fifth Amendment. He is prone to contradiction and tends to be a good witness against himself. President Obama’s favorite justification for his executive action is that “Congress failed to act.” No, Mr. President, Congress did not fail to act, it chose not to act in granting amnesty. Consider his self-incriminating statements o . ...

Jan 24 1916- In Brushaber v. Union Pacific Railroad, the Supreme Court of the United States declares the federal income tax constitutional
Recently the United States Surpreme Court denied a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari, letting stand sentences of fifteen, sixteen, and nineteen years respectively imposed on three defendants convicted of distributing "very small amounts of crack cocaine". The sentencing Guidelines would have provided for sentences between two and five years, except that the trial judge found that the defendants had also committed the crime of "conspiracy to distribute drugs." He therefore calculated much higher sentencing Guidelines. Not only had the defendants not been convicted of conspiracy, they had actually been acquitted of it by the jury. Justice Scalia would have accepted the case for review by the Supreme Court and wrote a dissent, joined by Justice Thomas and Justice Ginsburg. See, Jones v. United States, 574 U.S. ___ (2014)

Columbus Day thoughts. Hau Mitakuyepi. How quickly we have come into the season of Patanyetu (Fall) and soon we will be into the "Moon of Yellow Leaves" again. It is also the time when indigenous people of America once again remember the real meaning of "Columbus Day." While Italian Americans parade and celebrate for the hero who "discovered America" and sales abound in department stores, Native Americans grumble and remember the genocide that was suffered by them as the result of America being "discovered." Every year, the reminder is a slap in the face for them. As a national holiday, it has virtually nothing to do with honoring Italian heritage or culture and it is not about celebrating mutually held views about respect and justice. Columbus day celebrates two critical developments integral to the establishment, advancement and development of the United States. First, it celebrates the invasion, domination and takeover of indigenous peoples territories and second, and more importantly, it celebrates th ...

The risks of the biggest global equity correction since 2009 are rising. The Indian central bank kept interest rates unchanged this week, as widely anticipated, in a week when Prime Minister Narendra Modi again showed his ability to spring a surprise by announcing, during a five-day visit to the United States, that henceforth Americans travelling to India can buy a visa on arrival. The generosity of this move should be seen in the context that Modi was only given a visa to visit America on 27 September, 9 years after it was removed for his alleged failure to do more to stop a massacre of Moslems in Gujarat in 2002. Meanwhile, Modi has a major test of his leadership ahead. GREED & fear refers to the need to address in a pro-active manner the issue raised by the consequences of the Supreme Court ruling in August that all coal block allocations made since 1993 were done so illegally. The latest development here is that the Supreme Court cancelled on 24 September 214 of those 218 coal blocks, except four stat ...

the term “client” in ordinary English refers to a customer. However, in law a “client” is a man who is mentally incompetent to act on his own behalf in court. In ordinary English a “person” refers to a man, woman or child. In law, a “person” is defined as a legal fiction and a corporation. (A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States. by John Bouvier. Published 1856.) Likewise in law a “human being” is defined as a “monster”; a “citizen” is defined as an “officer or employee”; the word “must” means “may”; the word “including” is inclusive – meaning it means only the items following the word “include”; and even the term the “United States” has at least very different THREE legal definitions within the U.S. Code and Supreme Court decisions. Examples: 1.) SHALL - The following court decisions leave no doubt about the legal meaning of “Shall”. "Shall" means MAY - thus, when a statute states that you SHALL do something, i ...

The Black Seminoles are a small offshoot of the Gullah slaves who escaped from the rice plantations in South Carolina and Georgia. They built their own settlements on the Florida frontier, fought a series of wars to preserve their freedom, and were scattered across North America. They have played a significant role in American history, but have never received the recognition they deserve. Today, Black Seminole descendants live primarily in rural communities within the reservation of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma; its two Freedmen's bands are represented on the General Council of the Nation. Other centers are in Florida, Texas, the Bahamas and Northern Mexico. Since the 1930s, the Seminole Freedmen have struggled with cycles of exclusion from the Seminole Tribe of Oklahoma.[1] In 1990, the tribe received the majority of a $46 million judgment trust by the United States, for seizure of lands in Florida in 1823, and the Freedmen have worked to gain a share of it. In 2004 the US Supreme Court ruled the Semi ...
August 26, 1839: The ship Amistad is captured off Long Island. On July 2, Sengbe Pieh (known later in the U.S. as Joseph Cinque - image), led the slaves held on the ship in a revolt and captured the vessel. The captain and other crew were killed, though they kept the navigator - Don Pedro Montez - alive to return them to their homeland. However, he altered the course to the New England coastline, knowing they were not familiar with navigation at sea. The ship was seized at Long Island and a trial began. The case, United States v. The Amistad, made it to the Supreme Court in 1841. The Court ruled that the men had been illegally captured for slave trade and ordered them released. The United Missionary Society raised funds to return the survivors to Africa.
"Nothing in the Constitution has given to them [the United States Supreme Court] a right to decide for the executive more than to the executive to decide for them." - Thomas Jefferson, United States Founding Father, Signer and Penman of the Declaration of Independence, Governor of Virginia, Third President of the United States under the Constitution, "Memoir, Correspondence, and Miscellanies, From the Papers of Thomas Jefferson", Thomas Jefferson Randolph, editor, (Boston: Gary and Bowen, 1830), Vol. IV, p. 27, to Mrs. John Adams, September 11, 1804; Thomas Jefferson, "The Writings of Thomas Jefferson", Albert Ellery Bergh, editor, (Washington DC: Thomas Jefferson Memorial Association, 1904), Vol. XV, p. 447, to Judge William Johnson, June 12, 1823.
In the United States, the Supreme Court itself has become Unconstitutional & assumed powers not delegated to it by the Federal Constitution
In a fiery and provocative speech last week President Obama criticized companies that although following the laws of the United States (Written by Congress, Signed by the President, Upheld by the Supreme Court) violated his sense of morality. He accused them of being unpatriotic and renouncing their "citizenship ".This surprised me the most because of his objections to the "United We Stand " and "Hobby Lobby " Supreme Court decisions which assumed "personhood " status for corporations.I thought he objected to that premise and I know further to the left politicians definitely do.So my question is why or when were corporations granted "citizenship."?
1937 – New Deal: The United States Senate votes down President Franklin D. Roosevelt's proposal to add more justices to the Supreme Court of the United States. Also referred to as Roosevelt ' s "court stacking plan." Roosevelt was angry because the Supreme Court had ruled several aspects of his New Deal to be unconstitutional. It was his attempt to go around the high court.
