A big thank you to all who fixed salads or desserts to provide a very nice salad luncheon for Clarehouse today. A double big thank you for those who showed up to help with carrying in and putting out all the food. Clarehouse depends on volunteers to provide food for the families who have loved ones there. Hello All! URGENT: Please consider the below request. We have an opportunity to sign on to this petition as a community. I have reached out to Rob to sign on, or to delegate it to another officer, providing we have the full consent of the Trustees. Even if you are not a Trustee, I welcome your input on the matter, so please respond if you wish! This brings up a very important issue. We have not yet developed a policy in which certain representatives are empowered to sign such things on behalf of the community, or a process by which we will make such decisions. Given the climate here in Arizona, our commitment to justice, and the urgency with which these things often come up, I feel that this is something that we need to discuss and come to agreement on relatively soon, so I will request that it be added to the agenda in our next business meeting. If you are comfortable with Rob, Colleen, or Carolina (me) signing on to this petition on your behalf, please reply indicating your affirmation. If you have conc ...

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,    If you go by the school calendar, summer has begun.  If you go by the weather outside, apparently we are in the middle of monsoon season.  No matter what the season, there's plenty of reasons that you should still be sitting in your pew on Sunday morning as well as being involved with all that's going on at Wesley! From the Lay LeaderOur church team keeps trying to play softball.  Counting today, we've had three straight rainouts, which is not exactly the kind of streak you want to be on if you enjoy being out at the park.  And rainouts aren't things that you can schedule, so that means that most every evening the scramble begins to change plans and let people know the game's been called.Plans are wonderful things.  You really couldn't get anything done without them.  I know some people are amazingly good at pulling together major projects on the fly, but they are a rare breed.  We want to know what's going on, when do we need to be somewhere, what are we expecte ...

Well we’ve been back from our travels since 7 May. It’s been a busy week at Trinity and a good one. We held the Board of Stewards meeting Monday evening and enjoyed the usual Wednesday evening meal in the Fellowship Hall. The big deal this week was Thursday and the First Annual United Methodist Women (UMW) Chicken Bog Dinner. The UMW sold 400 tickets at $8.00 each as a fund raiser for their support of various local charities. The chicken bog was served with yams, cold slaw and homemade pound cake. Meals were served inside the Fellowship Hall for those dining in, but from a tent just out the back door for take-outs. In addition to the plates as described above, the youth sold baked goods of cookies, cakes and other delectables. It rained all day on Thursday, three inches or more I’m told, so the take out line was very popular. The youth also offered umbrella escorts for those people who braved the weather and puddles to eat inside. Todd Hardee along with father Jim and brother Jimmy, plus Wal ...

Thank you Debbie Riley and the Swansea United Methodist Women for honoring Joyce Saylor today at a tea for her 23 years service to the church and the Swansea Community. The accolades were very deserving as Joyce was honored today. The 30 years of film that we were gifted to watch were wonderful memories for you who have been there so long and a revelation for the new people attending. Joyce really does embody the spirit of a Christian woman in all that she endeavors to do, and she does it so well. Everyone who knows her loves her and Wayne for their willing hands and hearts around the Swansea community as well as our church communities they serve. Thank you Joyce ...well done good and faithful servant!

It is interesting that the UMC can claim Clinton and Bush as members. Community of the church shouldn't be rife with politics (yes, i know that's a bit utopian) but Jesus. This said, check out the livestream tomorrow morning as Hillary addresses the gathering of United Methodist Women (our most powerful group within the church, if you ask my opinion) at their assembly this weekend.
Is Hillary Clinton running for Presidency? I will be making a call for the USA to ratify human rights conventions including CEDAW? Hillary is my co panelist at the United Methodist Women's Assembly in Kentucky tomorrow.

I am sharing the panel is Hillary Clinton, and this will be in Kentucky (I have never been there). Any tips and insights!

Margaret Christine McSwain "Marge" Brown, a longtime resident of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully in UVA Hospital on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct 30. She was 89 years old and lived a full life of service - to her country in time of war, to her family and community in time of peace, and to her church and all mankind in her numerous missionary travels all over the world. She was born on July 28, 1924 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the first child of John Daniel McSwain, a haberdasher, and his wife, Rhoda E. Davis. During the depression, her father moved the family and his business to Toronto, Canada, and she became a Canadian citizen. Upon turning 18 in 1942, she enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army Corps. From the inception of the CWAC in 1941, until its dissolution in 1946, she was one of only 21,642 women to serve in the Corps. Attaining the rank of Corporal, she was stationed in Washington, DC with her unit, whose mission was to draft plans for howitzers. After the war, she worked as a se ...

Fall Festival Update - Silent, Children's, and Live Auctions! We hold three different auctions during Fall Festival; all take place in the Grace UMC Fellowship Hall: - Our silent auction features items donated by both our congregation and our vendors, and runs from 9 AM to 3 PM. Basically, you view the items, submit your bid on a bid sheet, and the highest bidder at the end of the auction wins the item. - Our children's auction, held from 5 to 5:30 PM, is specifically for children ages 3-12. Auction items include everything from stuffed animals to toys; these items often sell for anywhere from 25 cents to $1.50. - Our live auction, featuring items donated by our congregation and our vendors, runs from 6 PM until complete, during the fellowship meal. This auction is a complete blast! Rex Hooten, a professional auctioneer, returns again this year to call the auction, and he is extremly funny! We have the most amazing items in this auction, from hand-carved crosses to gift baskets, and from gift certificates ...

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN: YADKIN VALLEY DISTRICT, WNCC It's almost time for our Annual Meeting at Pilot Mountain U.M. Church. I do not have many names of persons who have read in 2012. My reports are only showing numbers and not names. If you would like a Reading Program Certificate, be sure that someone from your unit sends those names to me. Include 1. Church name (and indicate which county.there are more than one church with the same name) 2. Individual name 3. Which plan you completed. My e-mail address is available in your newsletters. I can put blank certificates in your folders that you will get and your Reading Co-ordinator can fill in the names. This is what I will have to do if I don't get the individual names. Hope to see you at the meeting.

Somehow summers have gotten busier over the years for me. My check list keeps getting longer and longer. So far I can check off the following: 1. Attended Regional Training at Shenandoah Univ. and co-managed the Program Resources Room for three days. 2. Vacation Bible School - Kindergarten teacher and co-director (need more stamina!) Was fun! 3. Scholarship Task Force - have met and chosen the 18 scholarship recipients (United Methodist Women fund these each year) 4. Received 20 boxes of books to sort for Mission u, happening later this month (actually can't check off the sorting yet :) 5. Borrowed a wheelchair for Mom, as her knee is really bad. Will leave for vacation on Saturday. Lake Gaston, here we come! I really don't want to check this off the list too quickly. Still to come: Mission u in late July and a wedding in Oswego in early August. Maybe the beach for our wedding anniversary. And of course, church meetings, doctor's visits for Mom. Life is full! Thanks be to God!
