The BJP is a direct successor of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS, Indian People's Union), founded in 1951 by Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a nationalist leader, former Union Minister and freedom-fighter. It was considered the political wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.Formed to suppress the congress ideology But the fortunes of the young party took a dip in 1953, when Mookherjee was jailed in Kashmir by then Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. After his death in custody, the BJS lasted for 24 more years, but never seriously challenged the power of Indian National Congress, the only well- structured political party since India's independence. It did however groom future political leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani.. When Indira Gandhi imposed a state of emergency in 1975, postponing elections and making contested use of major central powers granted to her by the Constitution, the BJS joined a coalition of parties in active protest. Several of its leaders were arrested. But when el ...

Media Report: Centre tells forces to remain alert in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand The Centre has directed security forces deployed in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to tighten vigil in the three states in view of intelligence reports which suggested that Naxals would try to carry out subversive attacks in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls. Worried over the plans of Maoists who may target political rallies and prominent political personalities, the Home Ministry has asked the paramilitary forces deployed in the three states to take maximum precautions and work in close coordination with the state police to foil any attempt by the rebels to disturb peace, official sources said today. The intelligence inputs suggested that the Naxals may carry out spectacular attacks similar to the strike on a convoy of Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh before the state assembly polls in May 2013 which eliminated several top state leaders of the party. Nearly 30 people, including Chhattisgarh PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel a ...
Nothing else can be more disgracing as a people and nation to the people of Kashmir than National Conference patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah’s abuses, he hurled during a function in Delhi the other day. Farooq Abdullah, who is union minister for Renewable Energy, called people of Kashmir ‘Maha chore’. “Voh chor nahi maha chor hien’ (they—people of Kashmir—are not simple thieves but biggest thieves) Farooq Abdullah said to a blustering laughter from the audience. The disgracing comments of Farooq Abdullah are against a people who gave all the love, respect and support to Abdullah family for three generations. The family patriarch Shaikh Mohammad Abdullah, despite all his political perfidy, duplicity and betrayal, was adored as Sher-e-Kashmir (lion of Kashmir). It was peoples’ love for the senior Abdullah that his progeny continued to remain in power after his death as well. Farooq Abdullah had been a four-time Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. His son Omar Abdullah is presently holding the ...

Pathania seeks/proposes Medical College at Ramnagar: - While calling on Hon'ble Union Minister for Health, day before yesterday, Mr. R. S. Pathania, General Secretary, Pradesh Youth Congress has sought setting up of a Medical College at Ramnagar as in view of vast area, cooler climate, exquisite topography, greater tourism potential, train-access and old history and abundant feeding area, Ramnagar is an idle location for setting up of a Medical College. Moreso, in view of vast forests and expansive area, it is an idle site for medicinal research and scientific introspection too. And that setting up of Medical College shall accord a fillip and projection to hitherto developed area as well as boost development and open employment avenues for the people of the area too. Pertinent to mention that Union Health Ministry has given nod to setting up of four Medical Colleges in J & K.

GARHWAL POST / editorial / 27th February 2014 Word Play First there will be the Panchayat Elections in Uttarakhand and, then, the General Elections. By the end of it, the politicians will be an exhausted lot. In fact, going by what they are up to these days, they seem to have already exhausted their vocabulary and are down to downright name-calling and muck-raking. It is interesting to note that the Union Minister of External Affairs, Salman Khurshid, is as no-holds barred when addressing his local constituents as he is soft in dealing with the Chinese. Following upon the threats held out against those who had exposed the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for disabled persons in 2012, Khurshid has hit under the belt by using the word ‘impotent’ while speaking of BJP’s Narendra Modi. It is quite typical of Congress leaders, who think primarily in English and then speak in the Urdu or Hindi idiom. This often distorts the meaning because of differing cultural contexts. In response to BJP objectio ...

Indian govt mulls Bangalore airport cold storage facility Indian authorities planning a state-of-the-art cold storage facility at one of the country’s leading airports are currently hashing out project details. Earlier this month, India’s Union Minister of Commerce, Anand Sharma, visited the Bangalore region on a tour of infrastructure projects in the country’s southeast, where he announced a new campaign to help the country’s export industry. It is understood that plans are in the pipeline to build special facilities at Kempegowda International Airport to store perishable fresh produce, although officials are remaining tight-lipped about the precise details until the report has been finalized. Rahul Gandhi's latest interview remark that 1984 riots cannot be compared with the one in 2002, here is my perspective, even though the hard facts below will disappoint many Face Book readers (In fact i had written this long ago in one of my columns).Praksh Nanda. A brief comparison of the riots in 1984 and those in 2002 are in order. Gujarat violence was a series of incidents starting with the burning of Sabarmati Express at Godhra by a Muslim mob on February 27, 2002, resulting in the death of 58 Hindu pilgrims returning from Ayodhya. This, in turn, prompted retaliatory attacks against Muslims and general communal riots on a large scale across the state, in which 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed and 223 more people were reported missing. The 536 places of worship were damaged: 273 dargahs, 241 mosques, 19 temples, and 3 churches. DR. SUBRAMANIAN SWAMY, THE MAN WHO SPEAKS HIS MIND He is probably the most feared and despised politician among politicians. But also admired and disliked by the educated Indian middle class for his no-holds-barred expression of opinion. In fact, they say he has taken freedom of expression to a whole new level by expressing uncomfortable opinions. For that he has been called names, he has been attacked physically, yet he continues expressing them. They say the only way to deal with him is indifference. But love him or hate him, you cannot ignore him. Dr. Subramanian Swamy, BJP leader and former Union Minister, was in Mysore and Star of Mysore caught up with him to ask a few questions, some which made an otherwise ever-smiling Swamy quite uncomfortable, but as always answered them all the same in his own no-holds-barred-style. But the Ministry rejected the suggestion, saying, “Inclusion of sports as a field for Bharat Ratna may raise the issue to include other fields such as trade and industry and social work in the award category of Bharat Ratna.” The Ministry said that while Tendulkar “deserves the highest honour […], there are several other sportspersons who have made our country feel proud, such as Dhyan Chand in hockey, Jaspal Rana in shooting, Vishwanathan Anand in chess, P.T. Usha in athletics.”

Built over an area of 2,800 sq m, the new ATC tower in Mumbai will take care of 750 landings and take-offs in addition to controlling 960 other flights, including international overflying air traffic. Calling it a precursor to the overall upgrade at CSIA, Chavan said: "The new terminal is expected to be ready in two to three months. WHITE WASHING the 2G Scam. The JPC probe in the 2G Spectrum scam exposes the pitfalls and uselessness of a parliamentary probe, where ultimately every decision is taken on blind political affiliation. Majority voting cannot decide issues that relate to corruption As expected, the Congress-dominated Joint Parliamentary Committee has given a report on the 2G Spectrum scam that clears Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Minister for Finance P Chidambaram, and puts all the blame on former Minister of Communication and Information Technology A Raja. This dubious report, prepared without summoning the trio by the JPC headed by PC Chacko, is among the darkest chapters in India’s parliamentary system. The Congress has once again shown its arrogance and disrespect to Parliament by achieving its dubious designs through a majority of votes, with the help of its bargainable and perennial supporters like the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Mr Chacko had no qualm in accepting the Congress spokesperson ...

Even as an ongoing probe has established the killing of at least five tigers in Maharashtra and two in the adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh this year, Union Minister for Environment Jayanthi Natrajan is apparently unaware of it. While forest officials describe it as the "biggest tiger poaching case" cracked in the state's history, Natrajan told The Indian Express on Friday, "Which tiger poaching investigation you are talking about? If there were to be such a serious case, I would have been told about it by Rajesh Gopal (National Tiger Conservation Authority's member-secretary). We are very sensitive to wildlife. Indian Shares Seen Largely Unchanged Indian shares are seen opening largely unchanged on Wednesday, tracking mixed global cues. Investors will continue to take cues from rupee movement even as commodities appear to be on a downward trend. Crude and gold futures fell for a fourth straight session Tuesday on easing fears about supplies from the Middle East and as investors mulled the prospects of a cut to the Federal Reserve's $85 billion monthly bond-buying program in October. Bargain hunting following two days of steep losses helped Indian shares end marginally higher on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex ended a volatile session up 19 points or 0.1 percent at 19,920 while the broader Nifty index gained 3 points or 0.05 percent to close at 5,892. External affairs minister Salman Khursheed's recent apology on the Kunan-Poshpora rape case has created quite a stir in many circles. This is for the first time that a Union Minister has issued an apology over the mass rape. “What can I say? I can only say that I am ashamed that it happened in my country. I am apologetic and appalled that it has happened in my country,” . For many this apology may have come too little too late and in so way serve to heal the wounds that bleed even today, but this statement has again rejuvenated the controversy surrounding the AFSPA. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), which provides immunity to India’s soldiers for acts committed in the line of duty, has been under fire for years. Critics say that the law allows security forces to get away with no end of brutality. While the government occasionally mulls repealing the act, without following up on it, one issue has been receiving a lot of attention in recent months — the way soldiers who commit violence ...

GS Paper II: - Change the climate for India’s poor - If the great Scott Fitzgerald were to have walked into the grand plenary hall of the Durban climate conference in 2011 to announce once again, “show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy,” all fingers would have pointed to the tiny Indian contingent in the room. There, Fitzgerald would have caught a glimpse of the feisty Jayanthi Natarajan, Union Minister for Environment and Forests, holding the fort against attempts by developed countries to impose binding emission cuts on the global South. Two years later, this tragedy is imminent — only India’s heroism remains. The first signs of this tragic denouement were visible a few minutes after the Durban plenary closed. Negotiators from the European Union, the United States and the BASIC (Brazil, South A ...

Friends, it was amusing that a staff from CM office thought it so necessary & eager to reply to an article published in local daily. That's axactly the reason why democracy or rule of law is not flourishing in Arunachal. 5% people are always connected to the govt who get direct benefits and defend the govt blindly. The people in power are so resourceful that a good issue can easily be diverted. If the intellectuals & youths can still be swayed then we need to wait longer for a change. If I'm ignorant then Congress people should ask then Law Minister of India Hansraj Bharadwaj & the current Governor of Karnataka who on the floor of the Lok Sabha said that I not only stood for the identity & interest of Arunachal but enriched the Indian Parliament through my immense performance & contribution. Why respected leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee, Priyaranjan Das Munshi, Oscar Fernandes, Prithvi Chavan etc were interested to take me into Congress & make me Union Minister? Why late CM Dorjee Khandu broug ...
