I read a post earlier by Mark Jirobe about a rumour that Boston is interested in a trade for Tyler Kennedy and possibly somebody else, and the comments on it got me thinking about who exactly is expendable on the Penguins roster? I mean, they do have to clear up 1 more roster spot when Niskanen is back from injury later this month... so I went and looked up some stats, and here is my analysis of the 22 players currently on the team. Obviously the untouchables on the team are Crosby, Malkin, Neal, and Letang. Those are the franchise players (in addition to Fleury) that the Pens want to have locked up to play their entire careers here. The way he has been playing so far, you can add Kunitz to the list too, unless somebody gives them an insane offer they can't refuse. Martin so far has earned top minutes this year, playing PP and PK, much better than he was last year, if he keeps it up, he is here to stay. Orpik may be in a bit of a slump, but he isn't going anywhere anytime soon, he is too good of a player. ...
