Hurricane Ernesto originated from a tropical wave which moved off the coast of Africa on August 18. The wave progressed westward and reached the Western Atlantic, spawning a tropical depression on August 24 near the Windward Islands. It moved west-northwestward through the Caribbean Sea and intensified into Tropical Storm Ernesto on August 25. The storm briefly attained hurricane status on August 27 to the southwest of Haiti, before land interaction caused weakening. Ernesto made landfall near Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, early in the morning on August 28 as a tropical storm. At one point the storm was predicted to become a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and threaten parts of the Gulf Coast. However, Ernesto moved much farther east than anticipated, and made landfall as a tropical storm on the southern tip of Florida on August 29. So the tropical storm Ernesto was a bust although mexico got some need rain.It Did even come close but kinda already new it would not hit us. So no we Look for Depression Number 7 that has a better chance of hitting us then Ernesto but its to early to tell so yea we will wait and see.

Well, Ernesto is now only a memory for us and Florence is only going to bother all the little fishes. NWS is watching a number of devlopements and our sites now turn back out to sea where a newly developed Tropical Depression has just formed over the Western Atlantic. I had heard the NWS revised it storm forecast adding a few more predicted storms to the probability list. We still have a long way to go until November folks !!!

Hurricane season is starting to ramp up with 4 separate systems in the Atlantic. Tropical storm Ernesto and Florence's remnants are the front half of a train of low pressure systems in the tropics. Invest 92L and a low off the coast of Africa are the next two systems of interest with chances of forming severe storms. Now is the time to prepare!

Tropical Storm Ernesto was upgraded to Category 1 Hurricane status, preparations continued into Tuesday on La Isla Bonita...its track went north of San Pedro Town, but we await the all clear yet.

Well hurricane/tropical storm Ernesto has passed over us leaving us with a few drops of rain and a nice cool breeze for sleeping. Not sure how the northern part of Belize and southern part of Mexico made out yet.

Tropical Storm Ernesto UPDATE - 10PM, 6th Aug. Despite the fact that the storm is 250 miles away, he's sure gusting a little with some 48 mph winds this eve. The OF dock is currently un-usable due to large waves. We expect to CANCEL Tuesday AM dive boat trips, unless the winds calm down. The wind is forecast to slow down after 1PM. Will will try to run an afternoon trip if conditions permit. Subject to weather- it may be possible to Shore Dive from the Babylon area. As a Plan B we will arrange a OF Divemaster lead shore dive in the AM if conditions allow.

Well, the lastest from Roger Erickson with the NWS - Lake Charles office says "that Tropical Storm Ernesto has not organized significantly in the past 24 hours, and has continued on a westward track across the Caribbean Sea. The latest forecast still calls for Ernesto to become a hurricane eventually, and reach the southern Gulf of Mexico (Bay of Campeche) late Wednesday or Thursday. Landfall projections are now indicating Mexico as the most likely target, by Friday". We will still keep an eye on Ernie, but Florence is now in the slot and headin this way. Bring it on, land fall here or not. Its just a matter of moving inland for a bit.

We are expecting the possibility of having to overnight in Barbados due to the effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto which might lead to the cancelation of our Caribbean Airlines 2:20pm flight. We pray for the intervention of our God who answered prayers for St.Vincent and surrounding island s and can do the same for Jamaica.
