PATHFINDERS OF INDIAN FOOTBALL prasun banerjee Thirty one years ago, wiry and slim Prasun Banerjee was a member of the Indian football team which reached the quarter finals of the 9th Asian Games in Delhi. He scored both the goals, with blistering left footed shots from outside the box, in the 2-0 win over Bangladesh. In the group league phase, he then helped India beat Malaysia 1-0 and draw 2-2 with China. Playing in the 4-3-3 system, the hallmark of India’s display was their superlative midfield trio – Parminder Singh on the right, Prasun as the central holding midfielder and Prasanta Banerjee on the left. Experts like P.K. Banerjee and Arun Ghosh consider this trio as India’s best midfield in the modern era. Three decades ago, Prasun was India’s leading playmaker. Now, he has started a new career; a new jostling match. Prasun is the first international footballer from India to be elected to the Lok Sabha. He is close to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) head and Bengal Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee ...
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is busy sounding off about the shiny, new Federal Front she wants to form. Apart from the Trinamool Congress , which she leads, the other members are supposed to be Bihar's JD(U), run by Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav and Orissa's Biju Janata Dal (BJD), led by Naveen Patnaik. This motley crew, Mamata hopes, can come to power after the next Lok Sabha elections. The idea is preposterous. Historically, third-front politics has not been an absurd idea. The Deve Gowda-led United Front (UF) government presided over healthy growth: between 5% and 8% through 1996 and 1998. As its finance minister, Palaniappan Chidambaram presented the 'dream Budget' of 1997. The UF came to power after a deeply fractured verdict: the BJP, which had won 161 seats in the 1996 elections, could be in office only for 13 days. With 140 seats, the Congress refused to bid for power. Then, 13 regional parties came together to pool their seats and form the government, supported by the Congress and L ...
Limited agendum Nitish Kumar might only have been playing a bit role in the L.K. Advani affair, but his statement on the possibility of a third front minus the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party could gain a momentum of its own. The Bihar Chief Minister spoke of a third front taking concrete shape as a project for the future if the parties he had in mind — former BJP allies Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and Biju Janata Dal in Odisha — could raise a united voice on a common cause with his own party, the Janata Dal (United). For the moment, this appears as no more than a ploy to deny Mr. Modi, recently named head of the BJP’s campaign committee, the further satisfaction of being promoted as a Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Significantly, Mr. Kumar was not talking of all the BJP’s allies coming together as an alternative to the Congress and the BJP. With the JD (U) having little in common with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the Akali Dal in Punjab, Mr. Kumar c ...
Trinamool Congress leader Shibu Yadav held for attack on journalists. BARRACKPORE: Under constant pressure from citizens and media houses, Barrackpore police finally arrested Trinamool Congress leader Shibu Yadav, the prime accused in the brutal attack on two journalists in Barrackpore a week ago. Yadav - a close aide of Bhatpara Trinamool MLA Arjun Singh - was nabbed in Sagauli, Bihar, on Thursday on a tip from Barrackpore police. This takes the number of arrests in the case to 14, most of whom are relatives or close aides of Yadav. The injured journalists - Astik Chattopadhyay and Barun Sengupta - are still in hospital. A mob, allegedly led by Yadav, had tried to burn them alive when they went to report on a Trinamool faction clash last Friday. According to sources, Barrackpore police got a hit on Yadav's phone number, which had been switched off after the attack. "After interrogating other suspects, police got hold of his contact numbers, which were tracked for the past three days. On Wednesday, we lea ...
Mamata's federal front call a diversionary ploy: BJP Asserting that its alliance with Janata Dal United (JD-U) will only get stronger, the BJP Thursday termed West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee's efforts for a federal front a diversionary ploy to mask her failures. Scoffing at Trinamool's call for a non-Congress, non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) federal front of regional parties, BJP's West Bengal unit president Rahul Sinha said Banerjee's meeting Wednesday with JD-U leader K.C. Tyagi was a mere "pressure tactic". "With her government facing problems galore, Banerjee is trying to divert attention by talking of the Federal Front. This meeting is not new and there are numerous examples of such meetings to create pressure," Sinha told media persons here. "Banerjee has been cheated by (Samajwadi Party chief) Mulayam Singh Yadav in the past. She had called him brother but still he went and joined UPA. The same fate will be of this meeting," said Sinha adding that Banerjee ...
(CORRUPTION) Chit fund scam: Left leaders meet PM, seek CBI probe... New Delhi: Leaders of Left parties met the Prime Minister and the finance minister on Thursday and sought a CBI probe into the ponzi scam in West Bengal and stringent measures to tackle fraudulent money pooling activities. The Left parties have been demanding a CBI probe alleging that the Mamata Banerjee government was opposed to such an investigation as it would reveal links of her party with the prime movers of the chit fund scam — Saradha Group and others. The delegation, which included Sitaram Yechury, Basudeb Acharia, Suryakanta Mishra, Asim Dasgupta (all CPM), Prabodh Panda (CPI) and Manohar Tirkey (RSP), would also meet President Pranab Mukherjee in the evening. Mishra, who is the leader of opposition in the West Bengal assembly, has earlier claimed that those running ponzi schemes “provided funds to the ruling Trinamool Congress and a dozen MPs and MLAs would be in trouble if a CBI investigation was conducted” and alleged t ...
Nitish, Naveen and Mamata in talks on federal front As the JD(U) prepares to walk out of the NDA, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has not only endorsed the idea of a third or federal front but has started working on it with the TMC and BJD. Kumar, who recently had a good meeting with his Orissa counterpart Naveen Patnaik in Delhi, reportedly spoke to a close Patnaik aide Wednesday to explore the chances of such a front. "I do not want any important position and I am not in the race for PM. I extend my full support to any such front. Let us get it rolling," Kumar is said to have told Patnaik's confidant, sources told The Indian Express. The move came as West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who came up with the idea of the federal front last week, Wednesday floated the idea of an eastern regional front comprising her Trinamool Congress, JD(U), Biju Janata Dal and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) as a prelude to the federal front. Mamata broached the idea to JD(U) general secretary K C Tyagi, a close confi ...
Nitish Kumar IS READY TO DIVORCE BJP : The JD(U) is to take a final call on quitting the NDA over the weekend, but already, the process of computing and racheting up the party’s numbers in the Bihar assembly has begun. To remain in power after a split with the BJP, the party has to reach the magic figure of 122 in the 243-member state assembly. Currently, it has 118 MLAs and needs the support of another four. The JD(U) has already been in touch with the six independent legislators and four Congress MLAs. That the JD(U) has already firmed up its decision also became apparent following Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s call to form a federal front. On Wednesday, Banerjee spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. “She wanted Kumar to organise the regional outfits under one banner and cement the coalition,” said Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi after meeting Banerjee in Kolkata on Wednesday. The front will comprise the key parties of backward states including Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha an ...
Saradha Chit fund Fraud: ANOTHER TESTIMONY OF PARIBARTAN SANTOSH KUMAR MOHAPATRA (This article has been published in June issue of ``Insurance Worker``, the journal of All India insurance Employees` Association (AIIEA).This Journal has a great impact in shaping me as a writer especially in English. I owe a lot to ``Insurance Worker`. Despite so many hue and cries about Chit Fund Fraud, many are not aware of what is chit fund, pongi schemes, collective investment schemes, etc. This article deals with those things also) INTRODUCTION Once again, ill-informed investors driven by greed or ignorance have lost money — this time in West Bengal. The collapse of Saradha Group is spanking new proof that our regulatory system is an abysmal failure in tracking scams in the making. What is most preposterous is that when the Saradha group chief, Sudipta Sen has accused politicians of complicity especially belonging to ruling Trinamool Congress, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has no compunction in shielding her culpa . ...
India. Journalists reporting on TMC infighting thrashed 08 June 2013, KOLKATA: Two TV journalists reporting on a murder that was allegedly the fallout of a Trinamool Congress faction fight were on Friday brutally beaten up by goons working for a local leader of the ruling party. One of journalists was dragged into a room and doused with petrol and says he would have been burnt alive had local residents not come to his rescue in the nick of time. Both scribes — Astik Chatterjee of ABP Ananda and Barun Sengupta of 24 Ghanta — sustained severe injuries. Chatterjee was taken to hospital with head wounds and gashes on his neck and back caused by iron rods with which he was thrashed. He received four stitches on his forehead. Doctors said Sengupta's injuries are less serious but the shock of being doused with petrol by goons threatening to kill him has left him traumatized. Both are under close monitoring. The goons who led the attack work for Shibu Yadav, a Trinamool Congress leader who was, until about si ...
please read KOLKATA: Supporters of ruling Trinamool Congress and party backed hooligans who attempted to burn a journalist alive and badly assaulted four others at Barrackpore, an industrial zone in the northern fringes of the city when the reporters went there to cover a murder and violence on Friday morning. Locals claimed that the murder is a fallout of factional clash among the ruling party. Trouble broke out at Barrackpore Sadar Bazaar area on Thursday evening, after a local criminal Jitulal Hati was found dead. Hati, believed to be close to local influential Trinamool leader Sibu Yadav and was a key person behind running a gambling den. Following murder of Hati, a gang of hooligans attacked the office and chamber of Rabin Bhattacharya, local Trinamool councilor and advocate who happens to be the president of TMC dominated local bar association. Miscreants ransacked his office, set fire on furniture and then attacked Bhattacharya's brother-in-law Dulal Karmakar's house who stayed close to the spot. M ...
Three TV cameramen assaulted by people holding Trinamool flags 07 June 2013, Barrackpore (West Bengal): Three lensmen of local TV channels were attacked on Friday with iron rods and lathis by some people, holding Trinamool Congress flags, when they went to cover reported factional rivalry in the party at Barrackpore. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Subhankar Bhattacharjee said that one person was killed early on Friday at Sadar Bazar area here following which clashes erupted later between two groups reported to be supporters of TMC. They also ransacked the house of a local TMC leader. The three lensmen were beaten up when they went to the house of the leader. The police did not confirm whether the killed person belonged to TMC. Two of the lensmen who suffered injuries were admitted to the local B N Bose Hospital and CT Scan was conducted on one of them who had received head injuries. However, the condition of both of them was stated to be out of danger, police said. The police arrested three perso ...
Jet-Etihad deal controversy: Parliamentary panel objects to India-UAE treaty. The next big fight between UPA and the Opposition could well be in the skies. A parliamentary panel-led by CPI-M's Sitaram Yechury has objected to a recent bilateral air agreement that India signed with Abu Dhabi to increase the number of flights between the two counties. The Parliamentary panel has noted that this agreement, signed in April this year, will allow Etihad, Abu Dhabi's national carrier, to substantially increase their operations in India. And Abu Dhabi could soon emerge as a hub for international passengers travelling from India to Europe and America. The parliamentary panel's observations come in the midst of letters written by senior MPs like Trinamool Congress' Dinesh Trivedi and Janata Party's Subramanian Swamy to the Prime Minister, questioning the Civil Aviation Ministry's move. Dr Swamy and Mr Trivedi have alleged that the government's decision to increase the number of flights between India and Abu Dhabi .. ...
Kolkata: The Congress on Tuesday alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress was using terror tactics during filing of nominations by opposition candidates for the three phase panchayat polls in West Bengal. "We have been receiving reports of attacks on our party candidates in East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, Bardhaman and many other districts where the administration is inert," WBPCC president Pradip Bhattacharjee said. "Democracy is in peril as the state government has unleashed a reign of terror before the panchayat polls," Bhattacharjee alleged and claimed that the state government was not making the required security force available even after the direction of the Calcutta High Court. "We will not tolerate any move to undermine democratic values and the misuse of the administration. If required, we will take to streets to protest it," Bhattacharjee said. He alleged that the TMC was trying to ensure that its candidates were elected uncontested and that there was no opposition. To a question, ...
Kolkata: Buoyed by Trinamool Congress victory in the Howrah Lok Sabha bye-election in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said her party did not require Congress and through their verdict, people have given a message to go it alone. "Congress requires us. We don't need Congress. The people in Howrah have given the message that we should go alone. Our victory reflected the mahajot (grand alliance) of people against all immoral alliance. Our's was a solo fight. It ushered in a new arithmetic, a new chapter," Banerjee told reporters after TMC candidate Prasun Banerjee's victory. In the bye-election to the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat, which was vacated by Pranab Mukherjee, TMC did not field its candidate, "but Congress had fielded its candidate in Howrah," she said. Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee had won Jangipur by a slender margin. Coming to the bye-elections in other states, Banerjee said, "Congress is zero everywhere. Left also has no existence. If I understand politics, the byp ...
The Howrah Lok Sabha by-election in West Bengal tomorrow and its result will in many ways be indicative of the future course of politics in the state. While the BJP has been able to somewhat increase its strength over the last two years in West Bengal coupled with the growth of Muslim fundamentalist forces, it finally withdrew its heavy weight candidate from the fray in favour of the Trinamool Congress. Despite relentless attempts by TMC hoodlums and their administration to intimidate and terrorise opposition party, especially Left party, workers and voters; the Left Front supported CPI(M) candidate is expected to perform quite well. The discontent of the people against the incumbent TMC government in the state will to an extent benefit the Left, but much will depend on how far the CPI(M) and Left Front has been able to rectify itself and improve its standing in the eyes of the people. It will be interesting to see how the INC performs. If the Congress manages to put up a good show, Mamata might well be c ...
Bypolls boost Narendra Modi, stump Congress and jolt Nitish Kumar. New Delhi: Lok Sabha and assembly by-poll results in four states offer no cheer to Congress, deliver a boost to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, bring succour to Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee and present Bihar CM Nitish Kumar with a reality check. Wednesday's standout result was BJP's clean sweep of two Lok Sabha and six assembly seats in Gujarat. Modi immediately hailed the victories as a signal that Congress's time in office is up. As the assembly seats were held by Congress, they amplify BJP's success. Congress's continued poor run will give the Opposition a leg up ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament where it may be even less inclined to cooperate with the government. Poor results shrink Congress's political capital, impacting its capacity for unilateralism. The ruling party may not have the stomach for bold decisions on issues like Telangana and reforms as it will now have to concentrate on crucial elections in major states ...
"Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today came out in support of the Central Information Commission order on bringing political parties under the RTI ambit."
Regional parties will do well in 2014: Mamata: Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Wednesday said regional parties will perform well in the 2014 general election and parried a query on whether her party would be at the forefront of any non-Congress and non-BJP coalition.
Kolkata, June 5 (IANS) Trinamool Congress candidate Prasun Banerjee was leading by 25,029 votes his nearest Communist Party of India-Marxist rival Wednesday as authorities began counting ballots in the June 2 bypoll from the Howrah Lok Sabha constituency. Prasun Banerjee is also a former international footballer. With 59 rounds of the intended 122 rounds of counting over, Banerjee has got 2,25,746 votes, while Sridip Bhattacharya of the opposition Left Front, spearheaded by the CPI-M, obtained 2,00,717 votes. The Trinamool nominee was in the pole position in six assembly segments - Shibpur, Bally, Panchla, Howrah Central, Howrah North and Howrah South, while the CPI-M was in the lead in Sankrail. Sanatan Mukhopadhyay of the Congress was at the third spot, bagging around only 24,000 votes. The bypoll was necessitated by the death of Trinamool Congress MP Ambica Banerjee April 25. He had polled 37,392 votes more than his CPI-M rival in 2009.
On Bengali New Year (April 14) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that her government may have made “two or three mistakes” but would learn from them. In a few days, her government’s latest and possibly most expensive mistake exploded in its face as the Saradha Group, a chit fund led conglomerate that had started defaulting on its investor repayments as early as January, went bust and rural Bengal faced its largest financial deposit scam ever. As Trinamool Party and the Bengal CM trot up the lamest of excuses for Saradha’s blatant cheating and the toll of those who have committed suicide after financial ruination keeps rising, the Bengal Youth Congress have taken to the streets, exposing the nexus between the chit fund company and its political patrons, the ruling Trinamool Congress. WBYC and WBNSUI took out rallies and held meetings all across the state from April end onwards. Their demands were simple and straightforward: First, they sought CBI investigation into the financial scam ...
PLEASE READ In what was a quick backlash to the heckling of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra on Tuesday by a group of SFI members outside the Planning Commission office in Delhi, at least two former CPM ministers were attacked by angry Trinamool Congress workers and over hundred CPM district and zonal party offices were torched by angry TMC workers by Tuesday evening in different parts of West Bengal. Trinamool workers and supporters almost ran riot in several districts after the news of Mamata Banerjee being gheraoed broke out on news channels. The attacks took place in Hooghly, Howrah, Bankura, Birbhum, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Cooch Behar and Darjeeling districts, CPM sources said. Within an hour of the incident in Delhi, the Trinamool organised protest rallies at the Gandhi statue and in front of the Writers' Buildings in kolkata. Left Front leader and former education minister Sudarshan Roychoudhury's vehicle was torched in Hooghly district while former land a ...
PLEASE READ Kolkata: The battle between the Trinamool Congress and the students of the Presidency University is getting uglier. Five people including a TMC worker have been arrested for ransacking the Presidency University. The TMC has now filed a counter-complaint against the activists of Students' Federation of India in the Presidency University for provoking them. Two Presidency University students named in the FIR have surrendered, but are expected to be out on bail soon. Those arrested for the ransacking include Shubhojeet Burman and Jayanta Haldar. In a first clear admission of a TMC hand in the ransack, the mother of Shubhojeet has admitted that he is a Trinamool Chhatra Parishad worker. On Thursday, pictures of TMC Councillor Partha Basu were also released showing him being part of the mob ransacking the university premises. However, Basu still insists neither he nor any TMC cadre were involved in the attack. "I will resign if it can be proved that I was a part of the ransack," he said. TMC hand e ...
PLEASE READ Kolkata: There is more trouble for Saradha Group promoter Sudipta Sen and Trinamool Congress's Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh. Twenty employees of news channel Channel 10 have filed an FIR against Sudipta Sen and Kunal Ghosh over non-payment of salaries. The FIR was filed by a section of the Channel 10 employees at the Park Street Police Station on Thursday night. The FIR, which also names six other senior employees of the organisation, has alleged fraud by the company management on grounds of non-payment of salaries which are pending since February 2013. This is the seventh complaint lodged against the Saradha top brass. Sudipta Sen and two others accused in the West Bengal chit fund scam went through the primary investigation on Thursday. The police has seized mobiles and laptops from the three accused. According to the police, six cases have been filed against Sen, out of which four have been filed by employees who did not receive their salaries. The other two cases were related to money market ...
Trinamool Congress leader Mohammad Iqbal, the prime suspect in the Garden Reach police officer killing incident last month, was arrested on Thursday from Bihar, police said. "Iqbal has been arrested from Dehri-on-Son about an hour ago. He will be brought to Kolkata," Additional Director General (CID) Shibaji Ghosh told IANS. "He will be produced before a court there and we will seek his transit remand from the court," added Ghosh. The Trinamool councilor and chief of the borough committee was seen at the spot of the incident, threatening a policeman and mobilising his supporters during the Feb 12 clash between student activists in city's Garden Reach area. Special branch officer Tapas Chowdhury was shot dead in broad daylight while trying to control clashing Trinamool Congress and Congress student activists at the Harimohan Ghosh College. The violence in the college erupted over the issue of picking up nomination forms for the students' union election. Iqbal, who has been charged with rioting, attempt to ...
''CBI Hobe toh Didi."? Kolkata, April 24: West Bengal Chief Minister and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) party leaders may face trouble in connection with Chit Fund scam in the state. Sudipta Sen, Chairman *** managing director (CMD) of the Saradha Group and the main accused of the scam, has sent a letter to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) exposing many several influential people including some TMC leaders. Mamata Banerjee has been maintaining distance with the controversy claiming that her government and party were not aware the scam. However, Sudipta Sen's letter is believed to have exposed the nexus between politicians and the chit fund industry in the state. In his 18-page letter, Sen described his close links with at least two Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha members and a minister of the Assam government, said sources. Sen also claimed that he was blackmailed by many powerful men who wanted to gain money.
SEC partisan: Trinamool THE Trinamool Congress has described allegations of attack on candidates of opposition parties while filing nomination for the panchayat elections as "baseless". Incidents of stray violence were being higlighted and blown out of proportion, said party general secretary Mukul Roy while addressing the media today. Roy also renewed his party's attack on the State Election Commissioner, saying she was given an "extension in service" when the Left Front was on its way out of the state. He accused the SEC of acting in a "partisan" manner against the ruling government. "The SEC is paying its guru dakshina for having got an extension in service," alleged Roy without naming Meera Pandey. Will gherao SEC if violence don't stop: BJP BJP's state unit has said it would gherao the State Election Commission (SEC) if instances of violence did not stop or were not dealt with strongly. "Why did the SEC issue notification for the panchayat elections if it was not fully satisfied with the law and orde ...
Why is Rahul Gandhi frequently meeting with Yechury? Is the Congress eyeing to join hands with the Left before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections? According to report...s, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is frequently meeting CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury as the top leadership of the party believes that the Left is a more reliable partner than the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to forge an alliance. This is irrespective of the fact that Gandhi had said a few days ago that it is time to drive the Left out of the country. The continuing strain in the relation between the Congress and the TMC, which culminated in Mamata's pulling out from the UPA government at the Centre and the Congress's withdrawing from the TMC government at the state, has boosted the West Bengal state Congress's position of not backing Mamata Banerjee again. The central leadership of the party had always held the state unit back from not going into an all-out war against the TMC but it seems now that the deteriorating relation has now compelled ...
Nandigram cut off as guns take over Sumanta Ray Chaudhuri Monday, November 05, 2007 03:34 IST Maoists take charge and block access to outsiders NANDIGRAM: Nandigram in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district is an island of terror. Access is tough and stories abound of looting and killing. The clandestine alliance between the right and extreme left in the form of the Trinamool Congress and Maoists has seen a huge deployment of sophisticated arms and explosives in the area. The area is out of bounds for the CPI(M) and security forces while visiting mediapersons are frisked thoroughly and their baggage carefully searched. With the imminent deployment of the Central Reserve Police Force at Nandigram, the area has become a virtual fortress. A group of Maoists from West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulya as well as neighbouring Jharkhand who are adept in explosives and firearms has set up base here. A committee activist told DNA that a dozen 40-member special action squads have been formed, each of which is under ...

Trinamool anguished on CBI probe into Mamata's stint: "Rather than introspect and purify itself the Congress-led UPA government has taken recourse to its trademark vindictiveness. It has asked the CBI to look at all senior appointments in the past four years, even though there are no allegations and there is no evidence of wrongdoing in the period Trinamool ministers ran the Ministry. What dirty tricks will a desperate government resort to, to deflect attention and frame the innocent and protect its own black sheep?"

WHO ARE SABOTAGING West Bengal ? Prof. Sanjib Bhattacharya / Blog / 3 yrs ago /  AA+A++ Many senior Congress leaders and many senior security personnel may not aware what type of material CPM     is . Many media persons may not aware the the ugly and  nasty history of CPM and for this reason they are believing CPM's Goebbels Type of propaganda. They don't know the real character of this party .Some of them don't aware the past history of this so called political party. CPM is the first party in India which brought terrorism in democratic history of India . This anti-national and anti-India party was born in the year 1962 by splitting itself from C.P.I in question of supporting China during Indo- China war. The main   leader of this party of that time Late Mr.Jyoti Basu not only openly supported China against India but also he used provocative words against whole nation at that time.  There   was countrywide   outrage  against  Jyoti Basu's  anti-India speeches   . No chance at all!!! Regional political parties with vested interests like the RJD, SP, BSP and perhaps even the Trinamool Congress would do everything to prevent the UNITED PLUNDERING ALLIANCE government from crashing. These last few months of their misrule could see crores flowing to the states ruled by these regional parties to keep their mouths shut. The corporate mafia will not hesitate to throw around any amount to keep the Italian dynastic rule intact. All these power groups definitely need the erstwhile Italian barmaid Antonio Maino and her mafia son-in-law to be at center. Even the CPIM who claims to stick by solid principles support this accursed alliance at crucial junctures.

Hindus on fire in Ranigunj Not a Step Back Hindu rage as regards rape of an innocent Hindu girl student in the colliery town of Ranigunj refuses to end and with each moment it passes, the conflict is getting fiercer as both administration and Hindus refuse to give ground. No matter what the torture of police is Hindus are facing the onslaught boldly. As per the latest report, 54 Hindus including brother of the rape victim (Hindu school girl, student of Class VI of Basanti Devi Balika Vidayalaya) have been taken into custody. ... It has also been learnt, Trinamool Congress in the sphere of Ranigunj, owing to the incident, has turned into two rival camps virtually and religious sentiment plays a major role in this case leading to the destruction of two TMC party offices in the area. But the administration seems to be impenitent and this can be ascertained from the fact that there is no end to nightlong raids on Hindus. Only today, May 2, 2013, a lot of women demonstrated before the police station. Even if t ...

It is absolutely clear that the Mamata government is verymuch reluctant to take swift and bold steps against the chit-funds which areresponsible for further impoverishing the poor people who invested theirhard-earned money through them for better returns. At the same time, a goodnumber of unemployed youths, who dreamt of a better life by earning a heftycommission as agents of these companies, are also in danger of their life. Itis crystal clear that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as a political party hasbased itself more and more on this social stratum of lumpen regional capitalistclass which is heavily engaged in open economic crimes. It is a very peculiarand interesting case in Bengal that with the rise of TMC since the Nandigramand Singur battle against the ‘Left’ rule broke out, this particular stratumfound their political patron in TMC and on the other hand the TMC too found itssocial base in this criminal stratum of the society. Since then both theplayers shamelessly worked hard to help each other ...

TMC role vis-a-vis mafia activities at Garden Reach of Kolkata Latest of anti-people activities of Mamata-led government fanning up mounting disillusionment of people A recent severe clash between two armed groups, one standing for the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and the other for the Chhatra Parishad (CP), the student wings respectively of the Trinamool Congress, TMC, the ruling party in the state of West Bengal and the Congress, the ruling party at the Centre, went well beyond the immediate issue of filing of nomination papers for student union election of a local College at Garden Reach, Kolkata. Certainly it was one of the many, almost usual, violent incidents centring round student union elections that are taking place in the state with the TMCP in virulent offensive role, aided and abetted by the police- high ranking political leaders- college administration, in the same way as the SFI, the student wing of CPI(M) used to act less than two years earlier. Better Advertisement Won It was not necessarily the better product Right wing economists must welcome a UPA Government minus the left. Let’s hope the Congress does not betray its ally, the Trinamool Congress, to shake hands with the socialists who still have some more seats with them than their rival if both Kerala and West Bengal are counted, despite the rout the communists have faced in both the states. Let us hope that 2009-10 sparkles as brilliantly in contrast to 2008-09 as 1991-92 had sparkled in contrast to 1990-91. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's first job in hand is economic reforms, held hostage by communists for five long years. Let us also rejoice the defeat of a bundle of confusions, aka the BJP, which failed miserably to read the pulse of the nation as, egged on by an obscurantist behemoth called the RSS, it clung on to a non-performing asset — a promised Ram temple in Ayodhya — in these gloomy times of economic slowdown and unemployment. The repetition of the promise was the crudest j ...
New Delhi: A Joint Parliamentary Committee will probe the controversial chopper deal, with the government on Wednesday asserting that there will be "no cover up" as it was determined to go to the root of the scam and give maximum punishment to the guilty. The setting up of the 30-member JPC was decided through a government motion passed by the Rajya Sabha after a walkout by members of most of opposition parties like BJP, JD(U), Trinamool Congress, CPI and AGP. Moving the motion, parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath said the JPC would submit its report within three months of its first sitting and rejected the Opposition contention that the decision would amount to putting the issue on the backburner. He attacked the opposition for walking out, saying they were "running away". Earlier, the House saw a debate during which the opposition accused the government of inaction for over a year into the Rs 3,600 crore deal for 12 helicopters with AgustaWestland which has got into a controversy after allegations ...

RAILWAY BUDGET 2013-14: Minister of State for Railway and Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury Tuesday refuted the allegation of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress that the rail budget for 2013-14 neglects the state and challenged it to prove the claim in parliament. "In no way West Bengal has been neglected. I have gone through the budget," Chowdhury said to requests for comments on the Trinamool' allegation that the rail budget was directed towards "killing the projects" in Bengal initiated by party chief and former railway minister Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool MP Saugata Roy told reporters in Delhi that the budget "has only one direction that is how to kill projects started by the Trinamool Congress railway ministers, especially with regard to West Bengal. Bengal has been singled out with an effort to kill all the projects in the state". Refuting the charge, Chowdhury said in this year's budget, sufficient funds were allocated for ongoing rail projects in West Bengal. "In this budget, the railway announc ...

. .Bengal By-Polls Election. . A high average voter turnout of about 83 percent was witnessed in the by-elections in three assembly constituencies in West Bengal Saturday, poll officials said. The by-polls at Nalhati in Birbhum district, Rejinagar in Murshidabad district and English Bazar in Malda district were "absolutely peaceful', the state Election Commission said. "At Nalhati, voter turnout was 86 percent, while about 85 percent votes were cast at Reginajar. And at English Bazar, the turnout was 82 percent," an Election Commission official told IANS. The by-elections were necessitated after sitting Congress legislators from Rejinagar and English Bazar left the party and joined the Trinamool Congress. The assembly seat at Nalhati fell vacant after Congress legislator Abhijit Mukherjee won the election at Jangipur parliamentary seat, vacated by his father Pranab Mukherjee, who was elected president of India. Of the 250 students of Halisahar Nabanagar Bharat Ratna Shastri Pathsaala in North 24-Parganas, about 20 turned up on Wednesday. A police complaint has been filed at Bijpur police station. No arrest has been made so far.

Trinamool Congress workers allegedly chopped off an ear of a panchayat employee after he failed to report for work on day one of the trade unions' strike in West Bengal. The incident took place at Debipur in the Murshidabad district.
The West Bengal government will not allow forcible enforcement of the two-day bandh by trade unions, to be held later this month, which would only 'aggravate' the economic situation of the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday. The economic situation of the state is in a mess because of the 34 years of Left Front 'misrule' and bandhs led to economic loss and ruined the state, she told a rally here. "I do not believe in the politics of bandh. We (Trinamool Congress) have stopped taking recourse to bandh three years ago." The Left parties, which are supporting the bandh on February 21 and 22, should instead hold agitations against the Centre on issues over which the proposed two-day strike have been called as the bandh would 'serve no purpose and cause immense harm to the economy.' "Let them (Left trade unions) agitate over the issues on which they have called bandh instead of causing economic disruption and sufferings to the daily wage earners ... Raiganj TMC leader hails Sonia AIIMS decision: Subhro Maitra, TNN Feb 8, 2013, 02.00AM IST: Raigunj: Chief Minister MamataBanerjee might have wanted the AIIMS-like hospital at Kalyani instead of Raiganj, but the Trinamool Congress' North Dinajpur unit has welcomed Congress president Sonia Gandhi's announcement that the UPA government would set it up at Raiganj. Getting a whiff of public sentiment, district party president Amal Acharya on Thursday said: "We welcome the decision of an AIIMS-like hospital at Raiganj. In fact, we were never against it. The Chief Minister only said that the government is in no mood to take the land for setting up the hospital from farmers forcibly. But the district administration has not yet submitted the papers with the farmers' nod to the state." The district Trinamool president also suggested two alternative locations - one at Karnajora and the other at Itahar - where land would not need to be acquired, because they are already with the government. Kolkata, Nov 10 (IANS) They may not be as sensational as Wikileaks, but leaked footage and documents of official meetings, reports and correspondence in the media are proving no less embarrassing for West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee government. The state's Trinamool Congress government is stuttering from bloomers to blunders in managing the fallout of a clash between police and villagers related to an old land acquisition dispute. The Nov 6 clash in Loba village in Birbhum district left 27 policemen and six villagers injured after police forces moved in to retrieve an earth-moving machine of a coal company DVC Emta Coal Mines Ltd which the villagers had refused to let go of since last December. The Krishi Jami Rakkha Committee (Save Firmland Committee) set up against the land acquisition accused the police of opening fire on villagers. But within hours, state home secretary Basudeb Bandopadhyay rushed to the media to deny the charges. "There was no police firing. The district police superintendent has inform ...
Dr Gautam Ghosh WE DEMAND AN IMPARTIAL CBI PROBE AND A PARALLEL PROBE BY Military Intelligence -That will clear all AMBIGUITY --- The Communist Party of India (Maoist) in a statement on Tuesday claimed that it intends to maintain its “alliance” with the Trinamool Congress on condition that the latter's leader Mamata Banerjee opposes ‘Operation Green Hunt' and resigns from the Union Cabinet. A faxed statement dated December 31 and signed by regional Maoist leader Bikram also claimed that Ms. Banerjee had spoken to senior Maoist leaders over telephone several times in the past to discuss ways to “resist CPI (M) cadres”. The contention only gives credence to CPI (M) allegations of a Trinamool Congress-Maoist nexus in West Bengal. The State Government and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee have been vocal against the alleged Maoist-Trinamool Congress tie-up and Mr. Bhattacharjee highlighted this in his recent highlypublicised letters to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. Incidentally, Bikram's ...
ONE CAN COMPARE TMC WITH THAT ‘TWO-HEADED-BIRD’ AS DESCRIBED IN MYTHOLOGY. One head of that Bird, used to say something just opposite as was told by another one. This awesome, ridiculed position can be seen, when TMC is opposing the Writer Salman Rushdie’s proposed visit to Kolkata. In the languages used by Trinamool Congress leader Sultan Ahmed, while defending West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she did nothing wrong in blocking author Salman Rushdie's visit to Kolkata. "There is nothing shameful, I am congratulating the state government for taking the right decision,". Now Friend, if you like to imagine that ‘Mythological Bird’ is functioning here also, Just look back towards incidents few years back, when Com. Buddhadeb Bhattacharyya was in power. Mamata was creating widespread ‘Holla-Golla’ against the Administrative decision that – for the sake of Communal Harmony, the State Government… “‘is not allowing further stay of Writer Taslima Nasrin’” beyond h ...
"When we were in power, we managed with the shortages of funds. We didn't make a hue and cry over it and never claimed that we cannot do any work." "Instead the Trinamool Congress government is only caught up in organising one festival after another and ensuring that Mamata's photographs appear everywhere. The photographs of the CM are everywhere whether in the newspapers or on the streets. All of this is spend with your money." -Buddhadev Bhattacharjee, Ex-CM, West Bengal Thank you Sir, but in last 34 years your Government hardly worked not to talk about working hard. Unable to fathom if the issue is with spending or the pictures of Mamata Banerjee everywhere. We are aware of the fact that Communists are against idol worship, save a few bearded ones. We also understand that Nandan was a high class coffee house for the ruling elites of the Left Front.
Sonia writes to Anna, promises Lokpal Bill in budget session The UPA government has been set a deadline for the passage of the Lokpal Bill after Congress president Sonia Gandhi assured social activist Anna Hazare that the anti-corruption legislation will be passed in the coming budget session of Parliament. The Congress president wrote to Anna Hazare on Tuesday underlining the government’s commitment to the Lokpal and assured him that the Bill would be passed in the budget session which commences end-February. Sonia Gandhi’s commitment comes in the backdrop of Anna Hazare’s announcement earlier this month that he would be setting out on a nation-wide tour from Bihar on January 30 in support of farmers’ organisations. The Lokpal Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha in 2011 but was subsequently stalled in Rajya Sabha following resistance from Opposition parties and former UPA partner, the Trinamool Congress, which said that the provision for setting up of Lokayuktas in the states violated the country’ ...
Eve-teasing victim gets ‘death threats’ from Trinamool leader A woman, who was allegedly teased by some Trinamool Congress workers in Barasat on Friday night that led to the arrest of one person, has now told the police that local Trinamool supporters are threatening her to withdraw the complaint. The woman has named Bakibullah Mollah, a local Trinamool worker, and his two supporters for threatening to kill her if she did not withdraw the complaint. "Some local youths led by Bakibullah Mollah told me to withdrew my complaint. When I refused to do so, they told me that they will kill me," she said. According to police, the victim, who works with a private BPO company, was returning home on Saturday evening along with male colleagues, when some drunken youths teased them. When the male colleagues protested, the youth beat them up. One of her male colleagues, Sourav Kar, was injured and admitted to Barasat District Hospital.

"What will you do to a snake if it sneaks into your room? You will beat it up. Similar treatment should be meted out to CPI-M if it enters your room. We can't help if people beat them up," Food Minister and TMC leader Jyotipriya Mullick told a party meeting at Birati in North 24 Parganas district. Trinamool Congress candidate Mr. Humayun Kabir to contest by-polls from Rejinagar in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
'Should I beat up the PM?' Mamata's new shocker , Stepping up her anti-Centre tirade, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh several times to protest against the hike in fertiliser prices but to no avail. "I have met PM ten times. I cannot do more than this. Shall I go and beat (him up)? Then you will say I have become a goonda. Without doing anything I am (called) a goonda. I do not mind that. But I know the way out. We will have to set up a fertiliser factory and it will need three orfour years' time," Ms Banerjee said. She said the central government was pursuing"anti-people" policies like Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and diesel price hike. "We cannot allow FDI in retail and other anti-people decisions like repeated hike in diesel prices and the cap on LPG cylinders," Ms Banerjee, whose party Trinamool Congress had quit the government in September last year over these issues, said. The Chief Minister claimed that the Congr ...
Trinamool activist dies in ‘police custody’ in Hooghly, cadres go on rampage Violence broke out in Dhaniakhali, a village in Hooghly district located about 45 km from here, on Saturday morning after a Trinamool Congress activist was allegedly beaten to death at a police station. As news of the custodial death of Kazi Nasiruddin spread, thousands of locals, mostly Trinamool cadres, attacked the police station at dawn today, prompting the police to lob tear gas shells and lathicharge to quell the mob. Trinamool activists also set up roadblocks to protest the “murder of their party colleagues by protectors of law”. Hooghly police superintendent Tanmay Roy Chowdhury admitted the death in police custody and promised an impartial probe. However, the absence of senior Trinamool Congress leaders during the agitation prompted opposition parties to raise fingers at “TMC’s internal feud that led to the incident”. Sheikh Sabir Ali, a local Trinamool cadre, said he had seen the police assaulting Nasirudd ...
I’m very happy that Trinamool Congress has withdrawn all candidates from the election contest with an intention not to divide the anti-left vote. We all welcome it and praise the sagacity of Miss Mamata Banerjee for her right decision. Similarly we want the S/T department of the Congress party also not to contest whimsically. S/T department is a very important organ of the Congress party. If they play childish game by setting independent candidates, it will serve no purpose of the tribal people of the state rather it will continue the left hegemony for this time also. The leaders of the S/T department should be calm and quiet and they may show their protest otherwise not by dividing the anti-left votes. I hope my humble suggestions shall be accepted by the S/T leadership to run the election smoothly and to defeat the Lefts. A number of people were injured on Tuesday in firing and stone-pelting in clashes between the workers of ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition CPM in West Bengal, leaders from rival parties claimed.
Chief Minister’s Utterance Gives Impetus to the Criminals: Surjya Kanta Mishra.(C.P.I(M) leader and opposition leader of West Bengal assembly) ‘Comrade Matiur Rehman Purkait is the 84th Leftist worker to martyr his life since Trinamool congress came in power. But the Government, when asked repeatedly about the number of deaths in political violence in the state, is saying the number below 10. The Government now is of opinion that even deaths of Trinamool Congress workers are more in number, but however could not reveal the name and whereabouts of them. We have submitted the list of martyrs to the Government’, said Surya Kanta Mishra, the leader of opposition, while addressing the huge crowd at Panchla beside NH6, Howrah on Thursday. The rally was organized by Howrah District Left Front protesting against increasing attacks, violence, anarchy and inactive police administration in the district ‘In this regime of the present Government, 73 farmers committed suicide, the list of which has been submitt ...

(LAND ACQUISITION/ SEZ) West Bengal govt’s land policy affected industrial climate in 2012... Kolkata: After a historical victory on the plank of Maa-Maati-Manush (mother-land-people), the Trinamool Congress government grappled with major economic issues during the year, which experts say, would warrant dramatic reversal of policies on issues such as land acquisition. It is felt the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s emphasis on a rigid land policy has pleased the farming community but not the industry. Banerjee’s consistent tirade as the Opposition leader against Tata Motors’ Nano plant at Singur, which was finally cancelled, had its impact on investor confidence in the state. It would have required a turnaround in the policy of the incumbent state government to woo investments by convincing farmers on the need to have a simultaneous growth in industry along with agriculture. Induction of industry-savvy former secretary general Ficci Amit Mitra as Finance Minister fuelled hopes of industrial reviva ...

CPIM's youth wing to organise Kolkata-Haldia rally on January 7: Eyeing on the panchayat elections, the opposition CPIM in West Bengal is making all possible moves to retain its holds in the districts. The party is attaching extra importance to those districts where they had lost in the last panchayat polls held in 2008. East Midnapore and South 24-Parganas are the two districts where Trinamool Congress had wrested the zilla parishads from the CPIM in 2008 and the Marxists are trying hard to concentrate their activities in these two districts to recapture the zilla parishads from the ruling Trinamool Congress this time. CPIM's youth wing, Democratic Youth Federation Of India (DYFI) will organise a "padayatra" (rally) from Kolkata to Haldia on January 7. CPIM state secretary and party's politburo member Biman Bose will inaugurate the rally from Kolkata on January 7. The rally will reach Halida on January 13 and cover about 120 kilometre distance. A demand was made in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday by Trinamool Congress to celebrate the centenary of conferring Nobel prize on Rabindranath Tagore.
Change of guard at a chance for to resolve . Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Surya Kanta Mishra on Sunday said the change of guard at the Tata group was an opportunity for Chief Minister to break the deadlock over the automobile manufacturing plant in Singur. “She [Ms. Banerjee] was opposed to Ratan Tata. But now that Cyrus Mistry has taken charge, she can speak to him and resolve the matter,” Dr. Mishra said at a public rally at Polba in Hooghly district. A large automobile hub had come up at Sanand in Gujarat where the Tata Motors small car project was relocated, Dr. Mishra said adding that the original factory site at Singur remained a “graveyard”. Questioning the industrial policy of the Trinamool Congress government, which has declared that it would not acquire land for industry, Dr. Mishra said, “They have made it a free-for-all for real estate agents.” “Everything has been left to brokers and real estate agents. In the 19 months that this government has been in power, a chit ...
CPM leader Anisur Rahman's rape remark against Mamata Banerjee sparks outrage Kolkata : Trinamool Congress submitted a notice on breach of privilege against CPI(M) leader Anisur Rahman in the West Bengal Assembly over his comment on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and threatened to slap a legal notice on him while his party too voiced disapproval and said it will seek an explanation from the MLA. BJP and Congress also condemned the remarks. Party leader Kakoli Ghosh also lashed out at CPM, calling them hooligans. Counsel for Trinamool Congress, Rajdeep Majumdar, said that a legal notice would be sent to the CPI(M) headquarters and to the CPI(M) leader seeking an unconditional apology within 48 hours. "If the apology is not tendered, we will file a defamation suit before the appropriate court," Majumdar said. Rahman, however, later in the evening tendered an apology for his remarks. "For the last 21 years I have been an MLA in the state. I have never said anything like this before and this will not happen a ...
Indian Politicians continue to rape our victims of gang rape; insensitive and arrogant lady politicians show the same disdain towards such heinous crimes. Dr Kakoli from Trinamool Congress party said Park Street case - where a woman was raped by five men after she exited a nightclub - was not a case of sexual assault but a misunderstanding during a deal between a woman and her "client". Excuse me Ms Klooless Ghosh, when a woman says NO, it’s NO. Even if she is a disco dancer or a sexworker, this was a mother of two who you just abused. Its time that politicians remember snide remarks and openly crass & sexists remarks show tacit compliance towards rape. This sycophant echoes the words of her party head, Mamta Banerjee, who on Feb 15th /16th 2012 had dismissed this case as ‘ a five day old news’. With great paranoia (which she is getting infamous for) she went on to suggest that ‘everything was staged and the truth will come out’ passing it off as a ‘political conspiracy’. Her crony Madan Mit ...
Two sitting MPs and six sitting legislators in different states were fielded by their parties despite cases of crimes against women pending against them, a think tank said on Thursday, four days after a 23-year-old medical student was gangraped in Delhi. Data compiled by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) showed that parties like the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) gave tickets to candidates with charges of rape and other atrocities against women in different states. Referring to affidavits filed by lawmakers ahead of their election, ADR said MPs S Semmalai of the AIADMK from Salem constituency in Tamil Nadu and Suvendu Adhikari of the Trinamool Congress from Tamluk constituency in West Bengal declared that they were facing charges of cruelty and intent to outrage a woman's modesty. There were six legislators across state assemblies with rape charges against them, it said. Another 36 legislators declared that they were facing charges such as ...

TMC govt has not fulfilled promises: Biman Promises made by Trinamool Congress government have not been fulfilled and tribals in West Bengal would have to fight for their rights, CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose today said. "The dream of turning Dooars and Darjeeling into Switzerland has been shattered. What had been promised by the new government have not been delivered," Bose said at a rally organised by Paschimbanga Adivasi Adhikar Mancha, a newly-floated front of CPI(M). "Adivasis are peace loving people and they know how to remain happy. But if they are cheated, they can rise in revolt," Bose said while calling upon the tribals in the state to take the path of agitation against the Trinamool Congress government for allegedly not fulfilling promises made to them. Leader of Opposition Suryakanta Mishra, who was the panchayat minister during the Left Front rule, said,"No one has ever given the tribals their rights." "Their (tribals) right to education, jobs and on forest products have always been ignor ...

Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly Tuesday plunged into bedlam with ruling Trinamool Congress and Left members coming to blows and the Speaker suspending three Left MLAs, while three injured members were taken to hospital. Gouranga Chatterjee, a CPI(M) MLA who received head injuries was taken to hospital as also two TMC MLAs Mahmuda Begum who was hit in the chest and Pulok Roy who was injured in the leg. Tempers ran high after Left members who tried to bring an adjournment motion on the mushrooming of chit funds in the state rushed to Speaker Biman Banerjee's podium and started shouting slogans. FDI in retail: Government wins vote in Lok Sabha with help from Mulayam Singh Yadav, Mayawati New Delhi: The Manmohan Singh government has won the vote on Foreign Direct Investment or FDI in multi-brand retail in the Lok Sabha. In division, 471 votes were cast, 253 MPs voted against the BJP motion challenging the government's policy decision and 218 voted for it. The BSP and Samajwadi Party, which provide external support to the government, helped it win by walking out before the House voted. The Prime Minister said, "FDI Policy has the approval of the House." Here are the top 10 developments: With the BSP and SP both not voting in the 545-seat Lok Sabha, the majority mark had come down from 273 to 251; 253 MPs voted for FDI. The spartan, moralist Mamata Banerjee’s latest MP is a flamboyant businessman with a private jet. His customised $30,000 suits are made-to-order, measured by tailors flown into India by Stefano Ricci, celebrated Italian designer. Rajya Sabha member Kanwar Deep Singh happily calls himself "a spoilt brat".The 49-year-old businessman from Chandigarh entered politics with the support of Jharkhand Muk ti Morcha (JMM) MLAs as a Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand in July 2010. Shibu Soren’s son and Deputy Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, helped him win the seat. A few months into the job, Singh switched sides to Banerjee. His shifting allegiance has left the JMM seething – he hasn’t been able to visit Ranchi ever since, hindered by angry JMM supporters. "I didn’t want to get lost in a party like the Congress or BJP and sit idle. So I scanned through the regional parties and Trinamool Congress (TMC) came closest to what I wanted. KD Singh’s Republic of Trinamool K . D Singh 's Republic of Trinamool = If Mayawati’s BSP or Mulayam’s SP spread their wings outside UP in other Hindi-speaking states like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, or even Maharashtra and Gujarat, it seems to be natural progression. But when Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, a Bengal regional party, tries to set up base in the North, it seems rather odd. The party had fielded many candidates in the UP elections but all lost their deposits. One candidate Shyam Sunder Sharma however won the Mathura seat but it was purely on his own merit having been MLA for five terms and had nothing to do with the TMC. Now the Trinamool Con-gress has formally opened offices in Chandigarh with Mamata’s close confidant Union Railways Minister Mukul Roy inaugurating it. It has started appointing office bearers in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, states where neither Mamata nor her party matters. Sources say it’s her party MP Kanwar Deep Singh who i ...

today.copied from Wikipedia According to Rig Veda, Yama and Yamuna were twins (brother and sister) born to Surya. In their earthly incarnations, Yamuna once longed to see her brother and invited Yama to her house. When Yama, the god of death visited his sister, his sister prayed for his well being. The other legends regarding the origin connect Vishnu, Krishna and Mahavira. However, according to folklorist and social historian Shailendra Haldar, due to various societal changes with the advent of agriculture, the sisters began to pray for their brothers safety, well being, and success. The bhai phonta festival is rooted in that social practice. According to the Bengali Hindu lunar calendar, the festival is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla paksha of the month of Kartik in late autumn. Sometimes it is also celebrated on the first day of the Shukla paksha. The sister put a mark of sandalwood paste mixed with curd on her brother forehead with her left hand ring finger thrice, while reciting a traditi ...
