The evidence, Toshiro Mifune tells a fishing story to Akira Kurosawa and Takashi Shimura.
Just watched "The Seven Samurai" for the first time. I'm worn out just from watching Toshiro Mifune!
Watching Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (1954). 60 years later, still, what a film. What amazing filmmaking. I was lucky enough to have met both Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune in my youth. I met Kurosawa in San Francisco at the film festival and Mifune through Richard Pena when he was head of the Film Center of the School of the Art Institute. The first foreign cinema I came to love was Japanese. I attended Omar Kaihatsu's cinema program at Francis Parker Auditorium as often as I could and would sit through double bills with films like the Toro-San series and noir Yakuza features. I usually attended these screenings alone, no one I knew at 16 liked Japanese films at that time. My Sundays at 17 was Japanese cinema, a matinee concert at the Jazz Showcase or both. The church of the visual and the aural. Amen. Wonderful!

Just re-watched Johnathan Frankenheimer film "The Challenge" (1982).and found it just as difficult to place as when I watched it on Showtime a bazillion times, half a bazillion years ago. Is this a good film or a bad film? On the good side, it's a hoot watching Scott Glen chew the scenery as the Ugly American, being schooled in tough guy movie archetypes by legendary Toshiro Mifune (Kurasawa's perennial funky Samurai badass). Frankenheimer shows the same tough guy banter chops he will again later in 'Ronin'...under a script doctored by John Sayles, where you can easily identify the Sayles additions. If it deepens the characters and creates believable dramatic notes, it's by Sayles. The setup isn't any stupider than most of the eras' action flicks, and in some senses superior; the Japanese characters have a degree of depth as characters, and a consistency of motivation that it seems tough for most American films to ascribe to anyone who tilts Asian. It's fun watching Glen get schooled in Aikido and Kendo, ...
Pit stop with Françoise Hardy John Frankenheimer's 1966 film, a fast-paced story of Formula 1 excitement, featured many genuine racing legends on set - and a young French singer by the name of Françoise Hardy... With James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand, Brian Bedford, Antonio Sabàto and Toshiro Mifune in starring roles, John Frankenheimer had put together an impressive international cast. Yet the real reason for the success of 'Grand Prix' - one of 1966's ten biggest box-office hits that year, winning three Oscars - was the thrill of the racing scenes, thanks in large part to help from Phil Hill: he captured real-life footage with on-board cameras at some 1966 Grands Prix, and also drove a GT40 camera car during the making of the film. Other big names making guest appearances on screen included Graham Hill, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt and Jack Brabham. There was another reason for movie-goers to buy tickets, and that was the actress who took the role of driver's girlfriend Lisa, ...

"Between 1948 and 1965, Akira Kurosawa directed 17 films. Of those 17, Toshiro Mifune starred in all but one."

Man, and are the Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune of hip-hop. A perfect combination breaking actual new ground.
Early 70's so would fit the time frame. And starring Toshiro Mifune, Akira Kurosawa's partner in crime.
Watched "1941" last night with Ben McFall. It is Spielberg's 3rd film and his only comedy. Most people aren't familiar with it, but I think it's a classic: Belushi, Akroyd, John Candy, Ned Beatty, Treat Williams, Christopher Lee, Slim Pickins, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Stack, Bobby DiCicco and many others. "Hahrrywod!"
Akira Kurosawa film, with Toshiro Mifune, then reading The Metamorphosis, rains, with the pleasure of listening to Bach in the background.
Just watched Akira Kurosawa's classic, Yojimbo (the Bodyguard) (1961) starring the late Toshiro Mifune. Need to later watch the spaghetti Western duplicate of the movie by Sergio Leone, A Fistful of Dollars (1964), starring a much younger Clint Eastwood. :-) ( Zaki Zainudin)

James Clavell's Shogun is my favorite book, and I love the mini series with Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune. A remake is unnecessary.
Two of the best to ever do it. Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa in 1960. They sparked my love of film…
Yoidore tenshi with a young Toshiro Mifune, lovely!!!
Cyrano de Bergerac in Toshirô Mifune form did alright. He died alone, the love unrequited, but by Christ he tried.
One of my favorite films. Toshiro Mifune is so good. Sanjuro, the sequel, isn't too bad either.
HMMPTH! Toshiro Mifune is one of my favourite actors now.
I think you're good in that case- it's very faithful to the book. Plus, Toshiro Mifune of course.
The mini-series Shogun had narration by Orson Welles and Toshiro Mifune in a major role. Did those two ever collaborate elsewhere?
I think he has a handsome character actor face. Like Toshiro Mifune kind of. Especially in this photo:

One of them said “oh it’s such a cute language” and sensei was like “not if you hear Toshiro Mifune speaking it”, zing~
Toshiro Mifune is so cool. He's the ultimate samurai! I wanna run around in a kimono, wielding a katana whilst being drunk and Japanese.
On Encore. The mini-series that tarnished the reputation of Japanese great Toshiro Mifune in the eyes of his fans.

What a shame Toshiro Mifune never got to make his buddy cop movie.
Toshiro Mifune is in that right? Been a few years, but I really liked him.
Remember that part in Sanjuro where Toshiro Mifune totally wastes a kid for the lulz of it? EPIC MAN. BACON. EPIC BACON. I'M A CHILD
The Samurai Trilogy's Musashi Miyamoto (played by the incomparable Toshiro Mifune) is THE ultimate badass samurai. Based on a real dude.

Just watched *** in the Pacific with Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune. One of the greatest movie endings of all time.
Director Akira Kurosawa’s first attempt at a samurai film yielded this character-driven masterpiece about an aging swordsman (Takashi Shimura) who enlists six other warriors-for-hire (among them Toshiro Mifune) to safeguard a remote village plagued by bandits. After viewing Seven Samurai, filmmaker…
I just interviewed myself. Weird. THE NEXT BIG THING: x Where did the idea come from for the book? Sushi. Leftover sushi. Leftover spicy yellowtail roll, to be specific. I was longing for it, and I felt really sad – and I thought that was funny. I wrote a poem with sushi in it. And then another poem in a similar form (no sushi), and then another and another. What genre does your book fall under? Poetry. What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition? Erland Josephson would be the speaker. Toshiro Mifune, the sushi bar chef. Ingrid Bergman would be at the counter. All parts would be played by these three actors, excepting Tim Curry, would reprise his roll as The Lord of Darkness (see 'Legend') for my poem, *** ” What is the one sentence synopsis of your book? And because a gray dustman slips by unnoticed, a thousand cathartic things begin to happen. - John Ashbery How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript? Two years. Though the oldest ...

Plans for 8K run scuppered by i) freezing weather and ii) getting home and crashing out for 5 hours after two insomniac days. Sleep cycle officially buggered so going to sit down and enjoy an Akira Kurosawa movie, trying to decide between Ikuru and Sanjuro. Sanjuro wins as Toshiro Mifune is in it and is still the single coolest actor of all time.
Guy who called in to WFAN just kept talking about Toshiro Mifune. Turned out he meant Ichiro Suzuki. 8O
The movie Yojimbo (1962) is a jidaigeki film and was directed by Akira Kurosawa. Akira Kurosawa was regarded as one of the most important film makers in the history of Japanese cinema. He became famous during the world war II with his inspirational war movies. He casted unknown actor Toshiro Mifune for his movie and became his favorite actor as he collaborated with Toshiro for 15 movies including Yojimbo.    Toshiro Mifune who played the ronin played a little lack for the character, I wasnt able to sense in him the authority of what a ronin usually is, in his character he played it very quiet, although his physical attributes fit the role of a ronin. The oher actors didnt apply the no acting acting and the scenes looked really over the top with their actions.    The set of the movie was really thought of well, the tower in the middle where in the ronin stayed symbolized that he was neutral about the issue and that he wasnt on any sides of the gangs. The set proved true with the era of the movie, their ...
EXCALIBUR is pretty great. But if you want more peak Boorman, check out Lee Marvin & Toshiro Mifune in *** IN THE PACIFIC.
Can't sleep, so I'm up watching my favorite WWII war movie. I know for most guys my age, it's Saving Private Ryan, and I even know a few fellas that put Enemy at the Gates at the top of their list (that one is actually second on my list). No, for me it's the 1976 classic Midway, staring Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston. Not only was it a pretty accurate tactical recounting of one of the War's most pivotal battles at sea, but had a cast with as many powerful stars of the time as Private Ryan. Along with Heston and Fonda, we had Hal Holbrook, James Coburn, Robert Mitchum, Cliff Robertson, Pat Morita, Robert Wagner, Toshiro Mifune, Robert Ito, and Dabney Coleman just to name a few.
Japalit prof: "In my time, the girls were all over Toshiro Mifune" // Me while watching Yojimbo: lol no he's timeless
