FROM BEYOND THE ARC By: Police Chief Inspector Rico C Santotome Jr (OS), RN, MPM Playing The Spoiler's Role The visiting Toronto Raptors played the role of villains in Kobe Bryant's much-hyped return while missing the first 19 outings for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2013-14 season of the National Basketball Association and after spending eight months of rehabilitation. Last Monday's game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was the 'Black Mamba's' first with the Tinseltown squad after tearing his Achilles' tendon in a regular season game against the Golden State Warriors last April 12 (I stand corrected, 'pare' Joseph Danoy of LTO-Bacolod). And while everybody was expecting an easy victory for the home team against the lowly Raptors with Kobe rejoining his teammates, the contrary resulted with Toronto winning over LA, 106-94, despite playing sans the just traded Rudy *** Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray (shipped to Sacramento) for four others led by John Salmons and Greivis Vasquez. GRADING THE RUDY *** TRADE! From a RaptorFan perspective.. To Toronto: Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, Patrick Paterson, Grevis Vasquez. To Sacramento: Rudy *** Aron Gray, Quincy Acy. Reasons why this is a good trade for the Toronto Raptors.. 1) Financial flexibility.. The Raptors are dealing out $21.3 million in salaries while only taking back $18.5 million. Of that 18.5 they are only potentially on the hook for $13 million next year in Hayes contract and Salmons option contract.. which could be turned down by the Raptors, so they would only have to pay Hayes' 7 million next year. While Sacramento is on the hook for Rudy *** s monster $18+ million contract next year. Hope that answers your question Waqas Mahmud. 2) Depth.. The Raptors are giving up 1 guy who has been incredibly inefficient and has been taking shots away from shot makers, along with 2 guys they don't play at all for Grevis Vasquez who was in the running for most improved player last year, top 5 in assists per game and rebounding% for point gu ...
To start the day off with, we're gonna take a look at the Toronto Raptors. End of season starters: PG - Kyle Lowry, SG - Demar Derozan, SF - Rudy *** PF - Amir Johnson, C - Jonas Valanciunas Unrestricted Free Agents: Alan Anderson, Aaron Gray (player option), John Lucas III (team option), Mickael Pietrus & Sebastian Telfair Restricted Free Agents: N/A Players Left Under Contract: F: Quincy Acy, F/C: Andrea Bargnani, G: Demar Derozan, F: Landry Fields, F: Rudy *** F/C: Amir Johnson, F: Linas Kleiza, G: Kyle Lowry, G: Terrence Ross, C: Jonas Valanciunas Draft Picks: N/A Team Needs: They don't have a consistent shooter. While DeRozan and *** can score, they're not exactly outstanding shooters. *** shot .415, which is a far cry from his career .450 shooting percentage. DeRozan also shot less than 45% from the field. The Raptors have no draft picks and close to nothing in cap space, so don't look for them to be doing too much. There will be 2 things to watch, however. The development of Jonas Valanciunas, wh . ...
