By Kevin Cunningham, Feature Writer   People talk about how much better the Western Conference is compared to the East and rightfully so. When looking at overall records, the No. 9-seeded Phoenix Suns of the West at 48-34 compiled the same record as the No. 3-seeded Toronto Raptors of the East. The argument used to be made that, sure, the West is deeper, but the East is better at the top. When looking at how much Indiana and Miami have struggled recently, even that case appears to be long gone. The West has better matchups and at least four teams […]
NBA "Star" Placed On Waivers The Orlando Magic have waived veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu, a move that has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. Turkoglu’s level of play has been on a steady decline since the 2007-08 season when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and five assists for Orlando. The deterioration of his play coincided with a five-year, $53 million contract he signed with the Toronto Raptors prior to the 2009-10 season. After one season in Toronto, Turkoglu was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Brazilian guard Leandro Barbosa. He played 25 games in the desert before being traded back to Orlando, along with Jason Richardson, Earl Clark and a first-round pick for Vince Carter, Mikael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat. Turkoglu never lived up to his hefty contract, but the Lakers and Hawks appear to think he’ll turn his fortunes around with a change of scenery.
Pau Gasol, Lakers struggling defensively Los Angeles Times Pau Gasol had a better offensive game against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday than he did Sunday against the Toronto Raptors, but the Lakers clearly have issues defensively. Toronto's Amir Johnson scored 32 points on Gasol. On Tuesday, twins...
What was anticipated as the Big Comeback was marred by turnovers and bad defense. Led by the returnee Kobe Byrant with 8 turnovers, the LA Lakers were unable to live up to the hype and the aura around the return of Kobe as the team recorded their worst turnovers(19) in a game this season getting their 5th home defeat of the season by losing 106-94 to the Toronto Raptors who were on a 10game losing streak and had just traded their superstar forward Rudy *** In front of a sold out Staples Centre crowd, the Lakers fumbled the early exchanges of the game amidst turnovers and went down as many as 14points. The Lakers team even with Kobe who recorded 9points 8rebounds and 4assists in 28minutes couldn't recover from the 1st quarter sham. Raptors forward Amir Johnson recorded his career high of 32 points dominating the Lakers in the paint. The Lakers bench still very impressive all scored double figures led by forward Nick Young to cut the lead to 4points but couldn't sustain it. Lakers welcome the Phoenix Suns . ...

...4 years ago. -LeBron James was on the Cleveland Cavaliers -Dwyane Wade was carrying a Heat team on his back -Chris Bosh was on the Toronto Raptors -Carmelo Anthony was on the Denver Nuggets -Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire were on the Phoenix Suns -Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer were on the Utah Jazz -Chris Paul was on the New Orleans Hornets -Dwight Howard was on the Orlando Magic and people actually liked him -Pau Gasol was getting the respect he deserved -Kobe was still Kobe -Ron Artest was still Ron Artest -Allen Iverson and Shaq were still playing -Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan were still coaching -The Charlotte Bobcats were a playoff team It's crazy how so much has changed in such a little time.
Which of these teams that didn't make the playoffs last year make it this year? Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves Portland Trail Blazers,Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks,New Orleans Hornets (now the Pelicans) , Detroit Pistons , Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Bobcats, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings.
THE Miami Heat ARE INTERESTED IN Sebastian Telfair:Telfair is a former lottery pick in 2004, and hasn’t had his career pan out like many expected. He’s played with seven teams in nine years. But, with such little financial flexibility, the Heat are going to have to look at some players with not of the greatest of resumes. Last season, he averaged just 7.3 points and 3.5 assists for the Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns. I’m not against the idea of the Heat grabbing an extra guard. Norris Cole and Mario Chalmers are fine and improving players, but grabbing someone as insurance for the both of them makes sense. If the Heat were to sign Telfair, I wouldn’t hate the move. Miami could probably do better, but Telfair has some talent. For a third point guard, the Heat could do worse
proud of copeland - The Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Toronto Raptors are all interested in Chris Copeland who received a qualifying offer from the New York Knicks yesterday. - The Milwaukee Bucks have strong interest in J.R. Smith and have enough cap space to outbid the Knicks. The Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns are interested in him as well. The New York Knicks extended a qualifying offer to Pablo Prigioni, making him a restricted free agent.
PHOENIX –A three-game winning streak went to the Phoenix Suns players' heads. And as Phoenix fell at home, 98-71, in a blowout loss on Wednesday night to the Toronto Raptors, coach Lindsey Hunter's biggest worry before the game –a five-day break doing more bad than good –became very real. “We won three close games, I felt like that had a lot to do with how we came out," forward Michael Beasley said. "We practiced hard for four days straight but that winning streak pumped us up.” As a result, the Suns came crashing down. And to beat those Suns, who needs Rudy *** when you've got Sebastian Telfair? While both Toronto players have been publicly jabbing their former teams this week, it was the latter who made the bigger mark on Wednesday as his Raptors faced his former team and nearly coaxed Phoenix into a historically bad night. Only a Marcus Morris three-pointer with 23 seconds left brought the Suns over the franchise record-low 68 point threshold. The otherwise meaningless bucket gave Morris 12 p ...
Phoenix Suns point guard Sebastian Telfair will reportedly be shipped to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Iranian big man Hamed Haddadi and, more importantly, a second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard and CBS Sports’ Ken Berger. The second-round pick is reportedly protected. Update (5:45 p.m. MST): The trade is official and is the lesser of a second-round pick of the Raptors and the Sacramento Kings in the case that the Toronto selection is not a top-36 pick. Haddadi, 27, was part of the deal presumably for no other reason than to make the salaries line up. He is making $1.3 million this season and has a team option for next. With Phoenix still with Marcin Gortat and Jermaine O’Neal on the roster 45 minutes before the trade deadline, the 7-foot-2 Haddadi does not appear to have a future with the Suns. He was traded from Memphis earlier this season in a throw-in to the Rudy *** deal, but he never reported to Toronto because of visa issues, according to the Toronto Sun.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Toronto Raptors are the front-runners to land Phoenix Suns guard, Sebastian Telfair. - JR

SUNS PURSUING Josh Smith ! It’s no secret that the Phoenix Suns are trying to acquire a star player. Last offseason, the Suns signed Eric Gordon to a maximum offer sheet, but the New Orleans Hornets matched the contract. In recent weeks, Phoenix tried to acquire Rudy *** but the Memphis Grizzlies decided to send him to the Toronto Raptors instead. Now, after missing out on Gordon and *** the Suns have shifted their attention to a new star that may be available prior to the Feb. 21 trade deadline. The Suns are pursuing Josh Smith, according to multiple league sources. Phoenix will try to acquire Smith before the deadline or, if that fails, through a sign-and-trade deal next offseason. The Suns are very interested in Smith and have had exploratory talks with the Atlanta Hawks about the 27-year-old forward. Phoenix views Smith as a franchise player who can be one of the cornerstones of the team for years to come. The Suns have been searching for a face of the franchise since Steve Nash’s departure last . ...

The Los Angeles Lakers have been able to vastly improve their roster during the NBA off-season. With the addition of Steve Nash to the backcourt and Antawn Jamison off the bench, the Lakers will be a force to be reckoned with once again in the Western Conference next season and beyond. Even though the addition of Nash and Jamison seriously upgraded needs in different areas for the Lakers, Los Angeles still needs a viable option to backup Kobe Bryant at shooting guard. Unfortunately, the Lakers are limited in their pursuit of a free agent guard and will most likely only use the veteran’s minimum to bring in a backup for Kobe. With that being said, there are only a handful of options for the team to explore. Even with limited options, the Lakers still have the opportunity to improve the position with the veteran’s minimum. Arguably the best free agent option left at their disposal is Leandro Barbosa. The Brazilian Blur may not be the player he once was alongside Nash with the Phoenix Suns, but he’d be ...

Shawn Dwayne Marion (born May 7, 1978) is an American professional basketball player currently with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association. Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Marion attended high school in Clarksville, Tennessee. Before transferring to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Marion attended the junior college Vincennes University for two years. In 1999, the Phoenix Suns drafted Marion, who was the ninth overall pick and would remain with the Suns until midway through the 2007-2008 season. The Suns traded Marion to the Miami Heat, and Marion joined the Toronto Raptors for the 2008-2009 season. Marion joined the Dallas Mavericks in 2009 and was the team's starting small forward when the Mavericks won the NBA Championship in June, 2011. Nicknamed "The Matrix" by TNT analyst Kenny Smith during the pre-season of his rookie year for his seemingly bionic athleticism,[1] he is widely regarded as one of the most versatile players in the league thanks to his athleticism and ability to pla ...
