On Jan. 22, 2006, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant had a game for the ages against the Toronto Raptors. The Black Mamba, then 27, went off for a career-high 81 points on that historic day at the Staples Center...
Free-agent-to-be Kyle Lowry is bound to garner interest in free agency after a career season with the Toronto Raptors, and both the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers will make a push for him if they aren't able to land LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony, according to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports Reports.
A few African-Americans own or have owned small stakes in N.B.A. teams. Magic Johnson owns 5 percent of the Los Angeles Lakers; Isiah Thomas owned 10 percent of the Toronto Raptors and Michael Jordan previously owned 8 percent of Lincoln Holdings, which owns the Washington Wizards, the Washington Capitals and the MCI Center. He relinquished that share when he left the Wizards' executive suite last season to play again. Two other African-Americans, Peter Bynoe and Bertram Lee, owned about one-third of the Denver Nuggets and were the general partners. Roughly 80 percent of the league's players are black or members of minority groups; 12 of the 29 coaches are African-American.
AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MOMENT January 22, 2006: Kobe Bryant scores 81pts. This performance still stands as the second-most prolific in league history, behind only Wilt Chamberlain's legendary 100-point game. Chamberlain scored 100 points for Philadelphia against the New York Knicks at Hershey, Pa., on March 2, 1962, shooting 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the foul line while playing all 48 minutes. In just under 42 minutes of on-court time, Bryant piled up 81 points (28-of-46 from the field, 7-of-13 from the 3pt line, 18-of-20 from the line) to lead his Los Angeles Lakers past the visiting Toronto Raptors, 122-104. With the usual sold out crowd at Staples Center chanting "MVP! MVP!" Bryant made two free throws with 43.4 seconds remaining for his final points. He scored 27 points in the third quarter, 28 in the fourth. REACTION: *"We were just watching him shoot," Toronto's Chris Bosh said. "He takes the type of shots where you don't think they're going in, but suddenly he's rolling, so he's k ...
fans: Ryan Kelly of Los Angeles Lakers to start against Toronto Raptors
NBA "Star" Placed On Waivers The Orlando Magic have waived veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu, a move that has drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks. Turkoglu’s level of play has been on a steady decline since the 2007-08 season when he averaged 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and five assists for Orlando. The deterioration of his play coincided with a five-year, $53 million contract he signed with the Toronto Raptors prior to the 2009-10 season. After one season in Toronto, Turkoglu was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Brazilian guard Leandro Barbosa. He played 25 games in the desert before being traded back to Orlando, along with Jason Richardson, Earl Clark and a first-round pick for Vince Carter, Mikael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat. Turkoglu never lived up to his hefty contract, but the Lakers and Hawks appear to think he’ll turn his fortunes around with a change of scenery.
Analysis: Lakers disjointed since Bryant's injury comeback Los Angeles - Like a jigsaw puzzle where a new piece has been inserted that does not seem to fit, the Los Angeles Lakers have been decidedly disjointed since Kobe Bryant's long-awaited return from injury. After delivering a surprise 10-9 start to the season with a makeshift lineup amid assorted injury problems, the stumbling Lakers have gone 0-3 since their star player's comeback against the Toronto Raptors on December 8. A smooth return was never likely for the rusty Bryant, who was sidelined since mid-April after a torn left Achilles' tendon that required surgery, but his presence in the Lakers' lineup appears to have jolted the youthful synergy established earlier this season. Shooting guard Bryant, a 15-time All-Star and five-time NBA champion, is averaging 11 points and shooting only 38.5 percent in his first three games. The 35-year-old scored just four points on two-for-six shooting while recording 13 assists and seven turnovers in his la . ...
Los Angeles Lakers host Toronto Raptors at Staples Center on December 8, 2013 at 9:12 PM
FROM BEYOND THE ARC By: Police Chief Inspector Rico C Santotome Jr (OS), RN, MPM Playing The Spoiler's Role The visiting Toronto Raptors played the role of villains in Kobe Bryant's much-hyped return while missing the first 19 outings for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2013-14 season of the National Basketball Association and after spending eight months of rehabilitation. Last Monday's game at the Staples Center in Los Angeles was the 'Black Mamba's' first with the Tinseltown squad after tearing his Achilles' tendon in a regular season game against the Golden State Warriors last April 12 (I stand corrected, 'pare' Joseph Danoy of LTO-Bacolod). And while everybody was expecting an easy victory for the home team against the lowly Raptors with Kobe rejoining his teammates, the contrary resulted with Toronto winning over LA, 106-94, despite playing sans the just traded Rudy *** Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray (shipped to Sacramento) for four others led by John Salmons and Greivis Vasquez. Starting for Coach Mike D' ...

Undrafted free agent Darius Theus is considering Summer League invites from the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks.
proud of copeland - The Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Toronto Raptors are all interested in Chris Copeland who received a qualifying offer from the New York Knicks yesterday. - The Milwaukee Bucks have strong interest in J.R. Smith and have enough cap space to outbid the Knicks. The Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns are interested in him as well. The New York Knicks extended a qualifying offer to Pablo Prigioni, making him a restricted free agent.
In the war of words between Dwight Howard and his former Orlando Magic teammates, one significant voice weighed in on the side of the Los Angeles Lakers center.Howard said that his former Magic coach, Stan Van Gundy, reached out to him Thursday to offer support."He knows I would never disrespect my teammates," said Howard after Lakers' shootaround Friday in advance of their game against the Toronto Raptors. "He understood exactly what I was saying and that's what he expressed."Howard expanded on the topic after the Lakers' 118-116 overtime victory over the Raptors, saying, "Both of us, we know how great we were together. I've always told him, if we had a second run together, that would be great."I would always tell him what my goal was, I want to be one of the greatest to play and he would always push me to get there. So, I respect him."Van Gundy believes Howard wasn't trying to bad-mouth any of his former teammates."He did not, in my opinion, mean to say 'I didn't play with good players in Orlando,' " Va ...

NBA Basketball Recap: Final statistics from the Toronto Raptors vs. Los Angeles Lakers game played on March 08, 2013
The Miami Heat eased to a comfortable win over the Toronto Raptors, while the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics won thrillers on Sunday. LeBron James helped himself to 30 points, eight rebounds and seven assists as Miami won 100-85 at the Air Canada Centre, although the Heat didn't have it all their own way as the Raptors led by six points at half-time. However, the star-studded Heat conceded just 35 points in the second half, with Chris Bosh scoring 22 of his 28 for the match after the main interval. Dwyane Wade added 23 points of his own, making it a combined 81 points from Miami's 'big three', as the Heat improved their season record to 30-14 to go half-a-game clear on top of the NBA's Eastern Conference. The Lakers avoided coughing up an 18-point second-half lead when they held off the Detroit Pistons 98-97 at The Palace. Kobe Bryant (18 points, five assists) shot a three-pointer to put the visitors ahead with just over one minute remaining, and the Pistons wasted two shots to win it in the dying ...

UPDATE: 10:37am AEST – Reports circulating Nash has done a sign & trade and will be sent to the Lakers. In the Nash sign-and-trade, the Suns will get 2013 & 2015 first-round picks and 2013 & 2014 second-round picks. While it may not be the circus that Dwight Howard created with his trade request, the Steve Nash trade talk, rumor mill and hear say could certainly be compared with a Merry-Go-Around. Since Free Agency opened 5 days ago and teams were once again given the green light to talk trades with each other, the question of where Steve Nash, a 2 time MVP and perennial All Star will end up has been a favorite topic among fans online and NBA Journalists. We all knew that Steve Nash was as good as gone from the Suns. A team he had given 12 All Star quality years to (he also spent 7 season with the Dallas Mavericks), but where will he end up? That’s the sticking point. 4 teams have been chasing Steve Nash in the last week. Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks .. ...

UPDATE: The Houston Rockets levelled their NBA season record at 7-7 on Tuesday with a 117-101 victory over the Toronto Raptors. The Rockets were brilliantly led by new recruit James Harden, who scored 24 points and dished off 12 assists, the latter equalling a career-best effort. Patrick Patterson scored 22 points for the hosts at the Toyota Center, Omer Asik scored 13 and plucked 18 rebounds while for the Raptors - who slumped to 3-12 with the defeat - Andrea Bargnani impressed with 21 points. Elsewhere on Tuesday, 40 points and 10 rebounds from Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant was not enough to prevent his team from losing 79-77 to the Indiana Pacers at the Staples Center. George Hill scored 19 points for the winners, and David West chipped in with 16 and 10 rebounds. In other results, the Philadelphia 76ers held on in a thriller 100-98 at home against the Dallas Mavericks, with Evan Turner scoring 24 points for the victors. The Phoenix Suns were too good away at the Cleveland Cavaliers 91-78, and 23 ...

The Los Angeles Lakers have been able to vastly improve their roster during the NBA off-season. With the addition of Steve Nash to the backcourt and Antawn Jamison off the bench, the Lakers will be a force to be reckoned with once again in the Western Conference next season and beyond. Even though the addition of Nash and Jamison seriously upgraded needs in different areas for the Lakers, Los Angeles still needs a viable option to backup Kobe Bryant at shooting guard. Unfortunately, the Lakers are limited in their pursuit of a free agent guard and will most likely only use the veteran’s minimum to bring in a backup for Kobe. With that being said, there are only a handful of options for the team to explore. Even with limited options, the Lakers still have the opportunity to improve the position with the veteran’s minimum. Arguably the best free agent option left at their disposal is Leandro Barbosa. The Brazilian Blur may not be the player he once was alongside Nash with the Phoenix Suns, but he’d be ...
On Valentine's Day, four days after dropping 38 points on Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, Jeremy Lin bested a record held by Shaquille O'Neal. Lin's tiebreaking three-pointer in the waning seconds against the Toronto Raptors gave him 136 points in his first five starts, seven more points than Shaq and more than any player in NBA history. ESPN termed it a "Lincomparable Debut." ASA MO ANA PRE? ajejeejjejejeje
HANG TIME CAPITAL BUREAU — While the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks have made strong pushes for free-agent guard Steve Nash, the Los Angeles Lakers have quietly entered the fray for the 38-year-old guard and are making a strong bid to acquire him, according to a league source.
The Los Angeles Lakers are the front-runners to land Toronto Raptors point guard Jose Calderon if Steve Nash does, in fact, leave the Phoenix Suns for his native Canada, according …
John Thomas Salley (born May 16, 1964) is a retired American professional basketball player, actor and talk show host. He was the first player in NBA history to play on three different championship-winning franchises. After being drafted in the first round out of Georgia Tech in 1986, the 6'11" (2.11 m) Salley played both power forward and center for the Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Panathinaikos BC and Los Angeles Lakers. He was a long-time host of the former Fox Sports Net show The Best *** Sports Show Period.
LOOL Since the Knicks last won a postseason game, the Los Angeles Lakers have won 101 and the boring San Antonio Spurs have won 87. Heck, the Toronto Raptors have won 10! EMBARASSING.
