A few African-Americans own or have owned small stakes in N.B.A. teams. Magic Johnson owns 5 percent of the Los Angeles Lakers; Isiah Thomas owned 10 percent of the Toronto Raptors and Michael Jordan previously owned 8 percent of Lincoln Holdings, which owns the Washington Wizards, the Washington Capitals and the MCI Center. He relinquished that share when he left the Wizards' executive suite last season to play again. Two other African-Americans, Peter Bynoe and Bertram Lee, owned about one-third of the Denver Nuggets and were the general partners. Roughly 80 percent of the league's players are black or members of minority groups; 12 of the 29 coaches are African-American.

They're a poor mans Denver nuggets "Y'all sleeping on Toronto Raptors"
Good morning, y'all! Today is the debut of the NBA regular season. There are 30 teams reaching for that one prestigious goal: the NBA championship! Out of 30 teams, 12 of the teams have African American head coaches. They are Jason Kidd of the Brooklyn Nets, Mike Brown of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Brian Shaw of the Denver Nuggets, Maurice Cheeks of the Detroit Pistons, Mark Jackson of the Golden State Warriors, Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers, Larry Drew of the Milwaukee Bucks, Monty Williams of the New Orleans Pelicans, Mike Woodson of the New York Knicks, Jacque Vaughn of the Orlando Magic, Dwane Casey of the Toronto Raptors, and Tyrone Corbin of the Utah Jazz. Only Doc Rivers has a ring when he won the title in 2008 when he coached the Boston Celtics while Jason Kidd is the only coach who won a title as a player when he did it in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks. Brian Shaw finally got a head coaching job that was long overdue. Since he was in the shadow of legendary coach Phil Jackson, he should b ...

Detroit Pistons general manager Joe Dumars is looking to start the summer of 2013 with a bang, and he's already inquired about Boston Celtics Point Guard Rajon Rondo and Toronto Raptors swingman Rudy *** according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports. Detroit Bad Boys: More on the Pistons' offseason While that doesn't mean the Celtics or Raptors are listening as of now, it goes to show Dumars' approach this offseason. The Pistons have also been looking to land a big-name free agent. They have offered lucrative deals to Atlanta Hawks free agent Josh Smith and the Denver Nuggets' Andre Iguodala, according to reports. Because of the situation he's in, Rondo is more likely to be traded. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are off to Brooklyn, and many NBA executives expect the All-Star Point Guard, ACL tear and all, to be moved next. Berger reports that the Dallas Mavericks are another team that could be interested in the Rondo sweepstakes. *** s situation under new management in Toronto is also to-be-determined.

George Karl, out as head coach of the Denver Nuggets, but the L.A. Clippers and possibly the Memphis Grizzlies, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors among others, are reportedly in pursuit for his services. In other news, Notre Dame senior quarterback, Tommy Rees, will start this upcoming season after freshman quarterback, Everett Golson, was dismissed from the team for "poor academic judgement!"
George Karl will not return to coach the Nuggets, according to team president Josh Kroenke. Former Denver general manager Masai Ujiri was introduced Tuesday as the Toronto Raptors' new GM.
Old news, but the Toronto Raptors hired reigning NBA Executive of the Year Masai Ujiri of the Denver Nuggets as their new GM with a 5 year $15M deal. At 42 he is one of the NBA's youngest, brightest General Managers. While in Denver he traded away Carmelo Anthony and brought back pieces, like Danilo Gallinari and in the 2012 offseason Andre Iguodala as a part of the 3 team Dwight Howard trade, that helped Denver to a 57-25 record this past season, the best in franchise history. He returns to Toronto where he was assistant GM from 2008-2010. I think this is a great pick up for Toronto to make the next step forward as a franchise. -Shane
Masai Ujiri, the soft-spoken general manager of the Denver Nuggets, is close to being hired by the Toronto Raptors to lead basketball ops.
Basketball *** drains winning basket as Raptors stun Nuggets Rudy *** drained the game-winning shot in the final seconds as the rejuvenated Toronto Raptors withstood a furious fightback from the Denver Nuggets for a 109-108 victory over one of the NBA's hottest teams. Trailing by a point with five seconds remaining, Toronto's newest acquisition drained the go-ahead jump shot just before Ty Lawson's attempt to give the visitors the win bounced off the rim as the final buzzer sounded. "He is a big-time player. He is a closer. His roll card has 'closer' all across the front of it," Raptors head coach Dwane Casey said when asked about *** s game-winning shot. "He has done it at high levels like in the play-offs ... I have seen him do it so many times. That is what he does." With the win, the Raptors (20-32) moved to within six games of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference but, perhaps more importantly for fans of the long struggling team, improved to 4-2 since acquiring *** last month. ...
