Released September 2, 1977: THIN LIZZY "Bad Reputation". Their eighth studio album. The last to feature Brian "Robbo" Robertson. Produced by Tony Visconti. The sessions started in Toronto with the band as a three piece. But mid way through, Scott Gorham insisted Robertson be brought back in to complete the album. Lynott insisted that Robertson not be included on the cover. Robertson agreed since he only played on three songs. Featured the single "Dancing In The Moonlight". The album peaked at in the UK charts. One of their best. RIP Phil Lynott.
Justin talks about working with producer Tony Visconti:
Richard Barone is a recording artist, performer, producer, and author. Since pioneering the indie rock scene in Hoboken, NJ as frontman for The Bongos, Barone has produced countless studio recordings and worked with artists in every musical style. Rolling Stone described his first solo album "cool blue halo" as 'chamber rock’, helping give rise to the popular genre. Recent collaborators and cohorts include Tony Visconti, Beach Boy Al Jardine, Sean Lennon, folk-rock luminary Donovan, the late rock legend Lou Reed, and American icon Pete Seeger. He has scored shows and staged all-star concert events at such world-class venues as Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. His memoir Frontman: Surviving The Rock Star Myth was published by Hal Leonard Books. His most recent studio album, Glow (Bar/None), was produced by Visconti. A deluxe CD/DVD set, “'cool blue halo' 25th Anniversary Concert” and the legendary “lost” Bongos album,Phantom Train were released in fall 2013 on JEM Records. Barone lives in Gr ...
T. Rex were a British rock band, formed in 1967 by singer/songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan. The band formed as Tyrannosaurus Rex, releasing four underground folk albums under the name. Tony Visconti (their producer for several albums) claimed in a documentary on the band that he had taken to using the abbreviated term "T. Rex" as a shorthand, something that initially irritated Bolan, who gradually came around to the idea and officially shortened the band's name to "T. Rex" at roughly the same time they started having big hits.

"Marc and Tony Visconti in Playful Mood Impersonating Bob Dylan" off of (picked it for me)
In New York back in the summer, a close friend confided a secret: that the strat which Marc Bolan had gifted David Bowie during the recording of the final 'Marc Show' for Granada TV, just before Marc died in 1977, was played on Bowie's acclaimed recent album 'The Next Day.' Today, producer Tony Visconti has posted a photo (which I have tried but failed to share here) of David Torn playing that very guitar for the Bowie album. My spine's a-shiver. Indescribably beautiful.

Trevor Bolder was born in 1950. He was active in his local R&B scene in the mid 1960. He first came to prominence in The Rats, which also featured *** Ronson on lead guitar. His big break arrived in 1971, when he replaced Tony Visconti in David Bowie’s backing band, which would soon be known as the Spiders from Mars. Bolder’s bass (and occasional trumpet) work appeared on the studio albums Hunky Dory (1971), The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972), Aladdin Sane (1973), and Pin Ups (1973), the Spiders’ swan song with their leader. In 1976 Bolder joined Uriah Heep, replacing John Wetton. Bolder’s tenure with Uriah Heep was, initially, relatively short-lived. Although he did contribute to the albums Firefly, Innocent Victim, Fallen Angel and Conquest, when the line-up that had recorded the latter disbanded Bolder alone was left with *** Box, guitarist, founder-member and legal owner of the band’s name. The attempt to put a new line-up together temporarily stalled and .. ...
On this day in music history: May 18, 1979 - "Lodger", the thirteenth studio album by David Bowie is released. Produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti, it is recorded at Mountain Studios in Montreaux, Switzerland and The Record Plant in New York City in September 1978 and March 1979 . The album is the third and final Bowie's "Berlin Trilogy", his collaborative efforts with producer/musician Brian Eno, named as such since the songs are composed while the two are living in East Germany (though recorded elsewhere). More pop oriented than its predecessors "Low" and "Heroes", but still maintaining an experimental edge. The albums two sides will feature songs that follow specific themes. The first side include songs representing travel, while the second side feature songs commenting on Western society. The album's cover art (designed by Bowie and British pop artist Derek Boshier) features a photo (taken with a Polaroid SX-70 camera) of the singer posed as an accident victim with a broken nose sprawled out on ...
Need anymore proof why New York is the greatest city on earth? Last night I attended an event organized by the Red Bull music academy called classic album sundays: a David Bowie special. THE CONCEPT: 3 Bowie albums explained by the the men who produced them: Ken Scott for "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust & the Spiders from Mars", Tony Visconti for "Heroes" and Nile Rodgers for "Let's dance". 2 hours per album over a 6+ hour all day event. I could only attend the last event which happened to be the one closest to my heart and my generation and presented by one of my all time favorite music producers, Nile Rodgers. THE SETTING: an intimate event with 100 or so lucky attendants on the top floor of the New Museum on Bowery, sunset time with spectacular views of the city. THE EVENT: 3 parts: 1. Nile going freestyle, treating us to intimate stories of how he met Bowie in an afterhours club in New York with Billy Idol, delivering secrets on how he came up with the riff for "China Girl" from listening to a Ru ...

Last night I dreamt that I visited Tony Visconti in some London recording studio. On arriving I shook hands with the great man and, before I knew it, found myself in the live room helping add handclaps to a new Marc Almond song. After some talk from one of the band members about finding a huge lump of extremely valuable whale vomit on the beach (it’s a component of expensive perfume apparently), Tony and I went out for dinner and had a delightful long chat about everything and anything. Hang on... was it all just a dream?
KMazur/WireImage David Bowie Guitarist Gerry Leonard: 'Odds of a Tour Are 50-50' By Andy Greene | February 20, 4:55 PM ET David Bowie is doing no interviews or appearances of any kind to promote his upcoming LP, The Next Day. Thankfully, he's allowing everybody else involved with the record to talk publicly. In recent weeks, Rolling Stone spoke with producer Tony Visconti, drummer Zack Alford and guitarist Earl Slick. At the risk of going completely overboard, we also chatted up guitarist Gerry Leonard earlier this week. He's been Bowie's musical director and guitarist on all of his recent albums and tours. The guitarist is more optimistic than many about whether or not Bowie will tour. "I would say that it's 50-50," he says. "A couple of times, when we played back one of the more kick *** tunes from the new record, he'd be like, 'This would be great live!' Of course, everyone was like, 'What? Did he just say that?' But other times he'd just roll his eyes if someone brought up playing live." Twelve Albu . ...

HYPE - LIFE ON THE INSIDE * David Bowie: The idea of performance-as-spectacle is important to me, it was time music be tarted up, made a parody of itself ▪ Angie Bowie: David needed a band. He had the foundation already – Tony Visconti on bass, John Cambridge on drums, himself on elementary rhythm guitar – but he didn't have the vital ingredient, the power and glory of any real rock band: a lead guitarist, No problem, though; John Cambridge knew a very likely lad who might be open to offers. *** Ronson was his name. John Cambridge: "The story of me asking *** to join David while Ronson was creosoting lines on a rugby pitch is true. I had pestered Bowie and Tony Visconti, telling them that I knew a great guitarist in Hull, and as I was going back home for a few days I could bring him back to Haddon Hall for the pair of them to vet. I caught up with *** while he was working as a gardener, marking the lines on a school rugby pitch. Ronson was dressed in a navy donkey jacket and his trousers were tuc .. ...

David Bowie may play one-off live show, producer Tony Visconti says via
Kabir Hermon David Bowie's 'The Next' Day' Album: A Track-by-Track Preview By Andy Greene | January 15, 7:00 AM ET Tony Visconti has been producing David Bowie's albums since Space Oddity in 1969. They've worked together on many of Bowie's greatest triumphs, including Heroes, Young Americans and Scary Monsters. After a long break, they joined forces again in the early 2000s for Heathen and Reality. Two years ago, he started working with Bowie on his long-awaited new album, The Next Day. Rolling Stone spoke to Visconti about the pair's secret sessions, how medieval English history inspired some of the songs and why it's unlikely that Bowie will tour – though a single show remains possible. As the producer noted, his other longtime collaborator, Morrissey, has the opposite plan. . . but he'll get to that. Was there ever a point over the past few years where you thought that Bowie would never record again? I was a little scared after he had his heart condition. He had a little scare himself. I didn't spe . ...
David Bowie has no intention of playing live ever again despite the imminent release of surprise album The Next Day, says his producer. Bowie regularly emphasised the point during recording sessions, Tony Visconti reports. The influential musician astonished the world with the launch of new single Where Are We Now? on his 66th birthday, along with news of the album launch in March. Last week guitarist Earl Slick admitted he hoped tour dates might be on the cards – but Visconti says Bowie has all but ruled it out. He tells NME: “He’s fairly adamant he’s never gonna perform live again. One of the guys would say, ‘Boy, how are we gonna do all this live?’ and David said, ‘We’re not’. He made a point of saying that all the time.” Where Are We Now? was quietly made available on iTunes at midnight on January 8, without any kind of announcement or press release. Last week Visconti said the single wasn’t representative of the full-length record, describing other tracks as “real rock.” He ...
