![]() The New York Jets have fired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, who was informed of his dismissal Monday night, league and team sources said Tuesday morning. Was Only A Matter Of Time Tony Sparano and the Jets were a marriage doomed to fail. Sparano didn't have enough talent at his disposal and didn't have the ability to craft creative game plans to atone for the lack of playmakers, Rich Cimini writes. Blog The move was made after a meeting between Jets owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan. The Jets were ranked 30th in total offense in Sparano's first and only season in the role, doomed by their unsettled quarterback position. News of Sparano's firing comes one day after the Jets parted ways with quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh, according to a league source. Cavanaugh, whose contract is set to expire, was Mark Sanchez's position coach from the moment he was drafted fifth overall in 2009. Sanchez regressed in 2012 under Cavanaugh and offensive coordinator Sparano. Sanchez ultimately was removed from t ...
![]() 5 reasons to avoid Jets' GM job It'll be a tough job. Here's why: 1. Rex Ryan. From all indications, the new general manager will have to live with Ryan for at least a year. He's a terrific defensive coach and a good motivator, but he's not for everybody. The sideshow wears thin if the team is losing. The new GM needs patience -- and a fondness for tattoos wouldn't hurt. 2. The coordinator dilemma: Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano was hired only a year ago, but his offense was a failure. Ryan reportedly wants to start over on offense, but it'll be tough to attract a proven commodity because of Ryan's tenuous future. Norv Turner and Cam Cameron are on the short list, but neither one will be an easy get. This will be the most important decision they make. 3. The QB trap: No way out. There's no easy solution to the quarterback situation. You're probably married to Mark Sanchez for another year because of an $8.25 million guarantee -- unless you make the unconventional move, cutting bait and incurring an en ...

![]() NEW YORK -- Though no official decision has been made on New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, sources told ESPNNewYork.com that Rex Ryan wants to bring in a new coordinator, and former San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner is said to be on his short list. While many fans and media have speculated that Sparano will be fired after one season with the Jets, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press the Jets have not made a decision on the status of Sparano. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the status of the coaching staff. Sources previously told ESPN's Adam Schefter the Jets do not plan to bring back Sparano. The Jets' offense struggled mightily this season, finishing 30th. The team is looking for a new general manager after owner Woody Johnson fired Mike Tannenbaum on Monday.

![]() News readers say Jets owner Woody Johnson needs to start from scratch at nearly every position. Sanchez likely to have surgery on his left knee The position of Jets general manager is open, and Daily News readers are eager to fill it — wielding hatchets. Now that Mike Tannenbaum has been shown the door, the frustrated fans who voted in The News’ annual “Keep ’Em or Dump ’Em” poll would jettison a bunch of the underperforming players he signed, the entire coaching staff and — starting at the top — the owner. In fact, the one thing they agree with Woody Johnson on is that Tannenbaum had to go. No one got a bigger percentage of thumbs-down votes — 96 — than the deposed architect of the 6-10 disaster. Even the head of the uncoordinated offense, Tony Sparano — whom 95% put on their hit list — was slightly more popular. The extension guarantees Sanchez $8.25 million in 2013 and is choking the salary cap. Now the Jets don’t even know whether Sanchez is an NFL starter anymore. Trading for Tim Tebow. The move completely backfired because Tebow became a distraction to Sanchez and was misused by Tony Sparano, the offensive coordinator Tannenbaum brought in. Acquiring Brett Favre in 2008. ![]() FLORHAM PARK, N.J. A couple of days before the season opener, Rex Ryan delivered a fiery speech to the New York Jets, expressing his anger with the media's perception of the organization - you know, the whole circus thing. Basically, he told the players: Let's go out and show 'em we're not a bunch of clowns. For one glorious afternoon, the Jets were nothing to laugh at. They were magnificent, blowing out the Buffalo Bills at home and restoring hope after an awful preseason. As it turned out, they had as much staying power as the man who led the stadium that day in a pregame cheer from midfield: Fireman Ed. The Jets peaked in Week 1, and that's a sad commentary. Ultimately, perception became reality as the Jets evolved into a butt-fumbling, quarterback-juggling laughingstock. Mercifully, the season ends Sunday at Buffalo, which, by the way, has won the same number of games as the Jets since opening day - five. How did it get this bad? Here are six reasons for the Jets' demise: 1. Schott in the dark: Wi ...
![]() the Jets are managed by a bunch of amateurs. I will explain a bit more about that here. Its clear Woody does not know much about football. That's why he needs to hire a competent GM and a coaching staff who are experts at football. After owning the Jets for about 13 yrs, Woody hasn't yet to do that. Mike Tannenbaum is a lawyer not a football mind. Once a football mind knows which player he wants, he tells Mike to sign him. Mike can only play a supporting role to the GM, not be a GM. Woody showed his lack of football knowledge by hiring Mike to be his GM. It makes common sense to hire a competent footbal mind, despite what Bill Parcells may have told you. After all, Parcells could have had "other" motives for that recommendation he had no skin in the game at that time. image.JPG A recent mistake, Tony Sparano. ![]() According to the New York Daily News, Jets head coach Rex Ryan has made it known that he would be better off getting fired if the team isn't willing to upgrade the offense. Manish Mehta of the Daily News says it's unlikely that owner Woody Johnson would fire Ryan with two years and $6 million left on his contract, but the head coach has also been given no assurances on his job security three days before the season comes to a close. "If Woody's not willing to do what it takes to fix the team, then [Ryan] knows he's better off being fired," a team source said. "If Woody is willing to eat some money and spend to get us out of this mess, then it's worth staying." The first "fix" would be to replace inept Tony Sparano as offensive coordinator and get a more established mind on that side of the ball as Rex handles the defense. Ryan has obviously contributed to the mess in New York, but GM Mike Tannenbaum's horrible personnel and financial decisions at quarterback and on offense have sunk the franchise. "[Ryan] ...

![]() LORHAM PARK, N.J. -- After 15 games, Tony Sparano finally admitted that integrating Tim Tebow into the offense has been a hard fit. One of the reasons why the Jets acquired Tebow was because of Sparano's background with the Wildcat; he used it as the Dolphins' head coach. But as Sparano correctly noted, the Wildcat is different from what Tebow ran last season with the Broncos. In Denver, it was a zone-read offense. Of course, the Jets knew this when they traded for Tebow, but they went and did it anyway. And they raised expectations by hyping Tebow's prowess in the Wildcat. "The Wildcat and what Tim did are really two different things," Sparano said Thursday. Sparano said their Wildcat plays have been productive, but the zone-read players have been hit or miss. The problem, he said, is that it's hard for the players to get comfortable with the zone-read if it's not done on a consistent basis. "And you really can't do that all the time right now with a player that's a part-time player," he said. "You can't ...

Sparano has been fileted on ESPN and elsewhere for the offense he fielded in 2012, which saw Mark Sanchez take yet another step back in his career. Per La Canfora, GM Mike Tannenbaum is Sparano's biggest supporter inside the Jets' organization, and Tannenbaum may very well be fired as well. Per La Canfora, as many as a half-dozen head coaches will be let go on "Black Monday," the Monday following Week 17. And that doesn't even begin to include coordinator firings.
![]() Tim Tebow - QB - Jets According to the New York Post, the Jets were "shocked" at how poorly Tim Tebow played in practices soon after the team traded for him. A source tells the Post that coach Rex Ryan and OC Tony Sparano "had no idea" how to use Tebow once it became evident that Greg McElroy was improving at a greater rate. The organization was reportedly "frozen with fear" over the Tebowmania factor, concerned that the controversy would wreak havoc with Mark Sanchez's psyche. Sanchez felt no threat, however, once he saw Tebow's errant passes in practices. The Jets bungled every aspect of the Tebow acquisition. Tebow has never been a "practice guy". *** he isn't even a 1st, 2nd or 3rd quarter type guy. He's a five minutes remaining down by five points guy. It's no surprise that Ryan can't figure that out.

![]() did the get any shots of Tony Sparano celebrating Field Goals?
![]() The Jets have got Tim Tebow in so many positions, I'm not sure if Tony Sparano is reading the playbook or the Kama Sutra.
![]() Heres the thing, this thing is up in Limbo. I agree that giving Tebow a shot to play under Sparano's Guidance and Big Rex as a defensive minded HC would be ok... but again, Rex is tied at the Hip to Sanchez, and if does go to Tebow and Tebow struggles and the Jets continue to lose games, Rex knows he will be gone as HC here. To be Honest, the Jets have a decision to make, do they keep Sanchez and try to build an Organization around his needs(think Drew Brees and Saints, Colts Manning, Patriots Brady etc) and help him succeed or do they stick with Rex and try to win that way and start over at QB? It is a really strange situation considering the personalities running this football team. You have guys who really are not Offensive Football smart making decisions at the top, and you have a Guy Like Tony Sparano, who is a smart offensive football mind, but does not have a quarterback type of mindset to calling a game, gameplanning, watching film or when at practice, so it makes it hard for the offensive coordin ...

![]() But it was Schotty, the OL, running game, Tony Sparano, Matt Cavanaugh, Rex Ryan, and Tim Tebow's fault.
![]() It took some years, but Coach Tony Sparano finally did something right for the Dolphins.
![]() How to get your a** beat in a football game: 1. Talk trash in the week preceding the game 2. Have Tony Sparano prominently involved with your offense 3. Start the guy in Section 107 Row E Seat 13 at quarterback (I think his name was Sanchez, at least that's what the jersey said) 4. Play an angry, determined, and vastly underrated team from Miami called the Dolphins. Following these simple rules gets you today's outcome, a complete and utter thrashing. HOW BOUT THEM DOLPHINS!!!
![]() Super sweet victory today to keep the Jets fans quiet. Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano are each others biggest fan, and are still whining that Reggie Bush hurt their feelings. I'm sure the Jets commentators were too busy wondering if Tim Tebow was on the field, or if he was thirsty or something to realize that their team got smoked today!

![]() Tony Sparano? They should have hired Tony Soprano. This "guru" stinks. At least they could drown their sorrows at the Bing.
![]() What I'm about to say surprises even myself. I've had some strong feelings about this guy, so I never thought that a change of heart on him would even be possible. But after watching the Jets come this close (--) to beating the Pats in NE, I'm a believer that Tim Tebow needs a heavier work load. Yes, I'm shocked that I wrote that. But really I'd be more shocked if the "smart football fans" don't come to a similar conclusion after watching the Jets lose two winnable games to the upper echelon of the AFC (guess they'd just be "typical fans" if they don't see it). What has to drive the Jets fans crazy is think if they won those games against Houston and NE? NY is going wild and analysts everywhere are talking about how the two best teams in football are both in New York. The Jets didn't pull it off though. I believe that if Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano will give Tebow a chance at a legitimate opportunity to run more plays, especially late in the game and on scoring opportunities, the Jets can still make the pla ...
![]() Where do I start? It is so hard to be a Jet fan, especially when they have an opprotunity to win a game...were winning...and lose it. First off, I can't tell the difference between Tony Sparano's offense or Brian Schottenheimer the former offensive coordinator. Second, why did they bother to get Tebow if they won't use him in the Red Zone. A sure interception and a sure first down were droppped by the Jets which could have sealed the win. If they don't give up a safety and a run back on a kickoff after they scored a td...there is 9 points right there..the difference in the game...they could have won. It was nice they came back from being behind, but you can't kick a field goal when it is more important to score a touchdown cause with 1:37 left, you still have Brady on the other side and he can get you downfield real fast which he did and they tied the game at the end of regulation resulting in the OT. OY.
![]() Everybody attacks Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez; however, they shouldn't be blamed. Tony Sparano is terrible.
![]() loss is on Rex Ryan and Tony Sparano more than Mark Sanchez. Way too conservative on offense in key spots.
![]() The love affair with Rex Ryan is officially over. "I'm proud of my team." Whatever. Tony Sparano should be fired TOMORROW. That slant call on 3rd and 1 is unforgivable. Hov said it best - "moral victories are for minor league coaches" - that game sums up everything that *** about this franchise. Same Old Jets, indeed.
![]() Just how? How does Sanchez still start, how is Tony Sparano still an offencive coordinator, and how is Rex Ryan still a coach. To blow all these opportunities to put a game out of reach when you know who is on the other side of the ball and you settle for field goals twice in the fourth quarter. Just rediculous.
![]() This just in: The Philadelphia Eagles fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo today and replaced him with defensive backs coach Todd Bowles. Castillo was in his second year as the team's defensive guru after head coach Andy Reid made the controversial decision of moving him over from the offensive side of the ball, where he had spent 13 years as the line coach. It was a move that had never been done before by any National Football League (NFL) team, where an offensive line coach was moved to defense and named a coordinator. Bowles had been a defensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins last year and became their interim head coach after Tony Sparano was fired during the season. Reid hired Bowles in January to coach the defensive secondary. He played eight seasons in the NFL as a safety, mainly for the Washington Redskins, and started in Super Bowl XXII. Go bruh !!!

![]() at Five Questions with including Tebow talk and Tony Sparano
![]() The Jets should've played Tim Tebow more: This is a false perception if the premise is that Tebow should replace starting quarterback Mark Sanchez after one bad game. However, it is 100 percent reality regarding what the Jets should have done against the Pittsburgh Steelers, when running the Wildcat would have been appropriate. Jets running back Shonn Greene got his bell rung in the second quarter. That should've spawned Tebow Time. That was my first guess when I was watching on Sunday. Before the game, I said Tebow should get 10 touches, given his success against Pittsburgh last season. He ended up with just one carry for 22 yards. The Jets hired offensive coordinator Tony Sparano to run the Wildcat. They traded for Tebow to run the Wildcat. The Jets are thin at receiver. Use Tim Tebow! By Adam Schein; Columnist, NFL.com

![]() Excellent article from the Dolphin Shout on why Joe Philbin was a really good decision for the Dolphins! It says a lot about why coaches fail and why Parcells Sucked at his job!! Monday, September 17, 2012 Philbin Deserves the Gatorade Shower in Miami Posted by Patrick Tarell at 8:18 PM Joe Philbin's Gatorade shower signified the transformation taking place in the Miami Dolphin locker room. The last regime found Tony Sparano dreaming up the wildcat after losing 31-10 to Arizona in his second game. Cam Cameron was wondering how far forward he would have to fall fast before he finally felt the respect of his locker room. There’s a different feeling growing in Miami and the Gatorade shower is an indication, the players are buying in. Brandon Marshall torched Vontae Davis last week, and the repercussions of Philbin giving Jeff Ireland the go ahead to trade Davis were finally understood in the locker room. Brandon Marshall's dropped passes in the endzone for the Bears this week made the reason for trading h ...

![]() Thank God for the NY Jets. Is it possible to have a better arch rival enemy? ![]() Ready for this? The New York Jets are going to explode offensively this season. And it's all about Tim Tebow and the tremendous effect he's going to have. Yes, you read it correctly. It's not a joke. It's me knowing my team and reading the signs this preseason. First of all, yeah, I know the first team didn't score in the preseason. It's not a problem, nor is it a big check mark on the to-do list for them in August. The Jets aren't letting anyone see how they're going to use Tim Tebow this season. No one. Not at open practice, and especially not in games that don't count. What did we see in the preseason? Tebow coming in, playing some mop-up QB, struggling to throw the football and taking abuse. That is 100 percent what is NOT going to happen during the season. It's time to start believing the Jets ' plan for Tebow has nothing to do with what we've seen so far. Put Tebow in the backfield at the same time as Mark Sanchez ? I wouldn't put it past Wildcat inventor Tony Sparano. (The Jets wanted Tebow to bulk ...
![]() Tim Tebow will be using the Wildcat this sunday. It is the reason that the Jets traded for him in Denver. To be a playmaker. They have said that they will unviel the formation against the Buffalo Bills and new wrinkles that no one has seen before, I beg to differ. The first reason is that the formation has been in existance in the current form sense the third game in 2008. It was implemented by then Head coach Tony Sparano, Offensive Coordinator Dan Henning, and QB Coach David Lee. With that information and Tim Tebow basically running his own variations of the Wildcat in Denver how much new could come out of a basic Single Wing? The answer is none, mix in the fact that Chan Gailey the Buffalo Bills head coach who runs his own Wildcat from time to time and the Bills new QB coach David Lee who helped unveil the Wildcat with the Dolphins back in 2008 the obvious answer is that nothing new will be shown from the Wildcat that hasn't been seen by the Bills or it's coaches. The Bills may not win this game, ...
![]() Bing! Ladies and gentlemen sorry for the early Turbulance but the preseason is now over and the jet has reached 30,000 ft. Tony Sparano has turned off the fasten seatbelt sign and the use of approved wildcat devices is now acceptable. Tim Tebow you are now free to move about the cabin.

![]() The Buffalo Bills have decided to release Texas EX QB Vince Young. So I ask all of you, would you all want to see the Texans bring in Vince Young, and place Case Keenum on the Texans' practice squad? The Texans could carry on their QBs roster: Shaub, Yates Vince Young. The Texans could use Vince Young in a manner similar to the types of read option plays & WildCat offensive play sets that NY Jets Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will utilize QB Tim Tebow.
![]() I been hearing a lot how bad the Dolphins offense is but we are forgetting another bad offense that also plays in the AFC East: "How about them J E T S?" They have not scored an Offense TD as of yet this preseason! With the additions of former head coach of the Miami Dolphins and now the OC in NY oh his name is Tony Sparano and lets not forget a QB that once played in Denver that ended up beating Miami last year oh his name Tim Tebow. Oh lets not forget about their starting QB Marc Sanchez. So as a Dolphin fan I don't see any reason for us to be complaining right now. Yes we made some bad off season transactions this year which is not a shocker with who is are GM is here. But things could be worse if we where Jet fans!
![]() Mark Sanchez, you flat out suck and your NFL Career is over!! Tebow, should be a Running Back. Greg McIleroy(3rd String QB) is the only true, NFL Caliber Quarterback on this Team. Ah duh, are you Kidding me? Fire Rex Ryan and take Tony Sparano with you friggin' morons. There ain't no way possible that the New York will Jets finish any better then 6 - 10 this year.
![]() Maybe it's just me, but Tony Sparano sounds too much like Tony Soprano. I bet the Jets would play better if Soprano was on the sidelines
![]() This is my only prediction for this years NFL season. Either the NY Jets Head coach Rex Ryan, or the offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will be fired by week six.
![]() Tony Sparano assured Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow that this "7 point score" is a myth today in practice, thus ending "7 pointgate" brought on by Greg McElroy. McElroy was reprimanded for bringing certain unobtainable goals to the minds of the current Jets starting offense. Addressing the press, Sparano stated "you would like to tell your children that they can do whatever they want when they grow up, but it would be dangerous to tell them they could become a wizard, or king of the world, it is best to keep fantasies out of your main goals." This is strike 2 for McElroy after last season letting slip that Santonio Holmes and Mark Sanchez had issues, something no one else was privy to after Holmes stormed off the field in the middle of a game.

![]() Welcome to *** Dolphins fans. The Miami Dolphins are a totally inept, mismanaged outfit with no hope of turning it around. The Dolphins are toxic. Nobody qualified wants to take their talent to South Beach. And the roots of the problem are entrenched. Think about the embarrassments. Jim Harbaugh passed. Bill Cowher laughed. Peyton Manning felt bad for Dan Marino, took a meeting, and never thought twice about joining this once proud franchise. Jeff Fisher got rightly scared. Bill Parcells quit. General manager Jeff Ireland is the George Costanza of the NFL. Despite countless missteps, he somehow is bullet proof. Like George, Ireland couldn’t get fired if he tied the 1973 Super Bowl trophy to the back of his car and drove it around the parking lot. Ireland and former coach Tony Sparano should’ve been a package deal, dismissed at the same time. The Raiders are laughing. So are the Bengals.
