Ha when you have to turn down the Tonight Show with David Letterman because you're too out of shape to perform your own world record pushup👎
Loved your appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and on the Late Show with David Letterman. You will be missed.
Watch perform tonight on with David Letterman"
Thirty five years ago I was working at NBC in Los Angeles and had the chance to go to a taping of the Tonight Show where a very young David Letterman was Guest Hosting. I got to say hello to him after the show and thought that was so cool. He was the guy singlehandedly changing the face of comedy. We just found out that "Rocky" will be performing on Late Night on May 1st and our brass section will be playing with the Late Night Orchestra on the number. How cool is that! I hope to be able to say hello again.
Whoa, big night in politics! Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is resigning tomorrow because of "technical difficulties" with the Obamacare website (if anyone should resign, it should be crybaby Boehner, whose accomplishments in Congress equal that of a fruit fly on a cold day), someone threw a shoe at Hillary Clinton in Las Vegas (gee, you'd think they'd at least hurl a wad of $100 bills given the location), and Stephen Colbert is replacing David Letterman on the Tonight Show (no longer the satirical Colbert we've come to know and love, but a real life version of himself). Lots of turnover, and definitely a few heads being turned tonight!
Don't forget if you watch, "The Tonight Show with David Letterman," that my cousin, Martin Courtney, will be on tonight's episode with his band, Real Estate! He is my "baby cousin," lead singer & songwriter and I pray that this is his big break!
So longtime talkshow host David Letterman is going to retire and hang it up.I wonder if this was like from the television Movie "The Late Shift" when supposedly, Jay Leno's then agent, Helen Kushnick, forced Johnny Carson out to get Jay Leno in at NBC, leaving David Letterman to leave NBC and go to CBS. Letterman was then replaced at NBC by Conan O'Brian, who then got the tonight show, and then was forced out by NBC and then landing at TBS, this time replaced by former Tonight Show host Jay Leno. Now I wonder if Conan O'Brian will be David Letterman's replacement, or will Jay Leno be courted? What about Craig Ferguson, who now hosts "The Late Late Show"? I guess the real question is, who do you think that CBS will replace David Letterman with? Regis? Tony Danza?
Late Night TV Shakeup Right on the heels of Jay Leno leaving the Tonight Show and being replaced by Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman after 30 years of hosting the Late Show has announced that he will be retiring in 2015. According to a statement from his representatives, Letterman said he informed CBS Chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves that he would leave the show at the end of his contract in 2015. Letterman, who enjoys tweaking his network bosses, said that he told Moonves: "Leslie, it's been great, you've been great, and the network has been great, but I'm retiring." For his part, Moonves said he appreciates the needling, saying in a statement that he appreciates Letterman's ability to keep "executives on their toes - including me." "When Dave decided on a one-year extension for his most recent contract, we knew this day was getting closer, but that doesn't make the moment any less poignant for us. For 21 years, David Letterman has graced our Network's air in late night with wit, gravitas and brilliance uniq ...
David Letterman announced today that he will be retiring next year, sometime in 2015 ... can't be too soon in my opinion, I have endured his not-funny BS far too many times because I really wanted to see someone he had on as a guest .. unlike Jay Leno, who could have stayed on a few years, still not used to Jimmy Fallon & the new Tonight Show
David Letterman to retire in 2015. Anyone think Jay Leno will take the show, seeing as though he was pretty much forced to leave the Tonight Show? Would be very interesting to see if he could compete to spite NBC!
Less than two months after his longtime rival Jay Leno stepped down from NBC's "Tonight Show," David Letterman has announced he'll retire and step down from CBS's "Late Show" in 2015.
First, Johnny Carson left the "Tonight Show" and now David Letterman is leaving "The Late Show" in 2015.
I see David Letterman is retiring in 2015 - anyone have a thought as to who might be the new host/hostess??? I guess having been such a fan of both Johnny Carson and Letterman, I've never been able to envision anyone else at the helm but these people sure devoted a lot of years to their career and deserve some good retirement time. Just wondering in my mind, who would fill Letterman's shoes - Jimmy Fallon has done a great job so far, taking over the Tonight Show (I had no idea how funny he is and what a happy-nature he has).
Some Entertainment News David Letterman to retire from 'Late Show' in 2015 New York (AP) - David Letterman says he's retiring next year as host of "Late Show." During a taping of Thursday's show, Letterman said he has informed his CBS bosses that he will step down in 2015, when his current contract expires. He told his audience he expects his departure will be "at least a year or so" from now. Letterman turns 67 next week. He has the longest tenure of any late-night talk show host in U.S. television history, nearing 32 years since he created "Late Night" at NBC in 1982. He jumped to CBS to start "Late Show" in 1993. Jay Leno, his rival to host NBC's "Tonight Show," retired earlier this year, making way for Jimmy Fallon.
I remember David Letterman doing stand up on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show.
"Every time he would throw to a commercial, I just felt him slipping away forever." - David Letterman on Johnny Carson's last Tonight Show
I SENT THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL TO NBC: With regard to the appearance of Joan Rivers on the Tonight Show on Thursday, March 27, 2014: I cannot believe the complete lack of taste and utter disregard for common decency in her opening statement. Apologizing for supposedly being late, she referred to a delay problem with the limo (evidently a German product), commenting to the effect that “they can kill six million people but they can’t fix a f---ing carburetor.” It seems there is no line in the sand that Ms. Rivers will not cross; including making light of a horrific event to get a laugh. Jimmy Fallon seemed to find it amusing; and you evidently feel you have done your duty by bleeping out the f-word. I think she has insulted and disgraced a great number of people. The next discussion concerned her *** at which time I turned off the Tonight Show and watched David Letterman.
Don't forget that will be performing on the David Letterman show tonight!!! Be sure to tune in!
Staying away from the Tonight Show is working. Keep away from Jimmy who is Failing. I don't like Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman can't even speak properly. I think he forgets his script. I watch Law and Order until I fall asleep.
Things like stealing the Tonight Show from David Letterman?
Now that NBC has decided to give Jay Leno his walking papers, we must all decide who we want to watch next, if anyone. Let's compare notes. What do you like or dislike about the late night talk shows. who do you like Jimmy Fallon? David Lettermen? Others? Rather than try to change this group, i decided to start my own and call it, " Jay Leno is gone from Tonight Show. Jimmy Fallon vs. David Letterman"
Jay Leno finally leaves the Tonight Show he jacked from David Letterman re-jacked from Conan & who Johnny Carson never wanted to succeed him
So here is what I was thinking. You know how we all love Jay Leno. Well, now he is gone from the Tonight Show and we are all sad about it. He is such a sweet man..honest and humble and kind. Anyway, now I won't be able to go on Jay Leno's show to promote our Reality TV Show. The producers asked me if I would be okay with going on TV to promote the show and I said..,,SUURREE.So, now we have to think of what shows I will go on to promote it. David Letterman? Craig Ferguson??? Kathy and Hoda, The View? The Talk? Jimmy Fellan? I DON"T THINK SO...and play those stupid games of his. I WANT LENO BACK ALREADY. I need to think this over.ask Frank and David. Tommy said, Letterman and GMA...but I like Craig Ferguson. Hmmm
(Dan & Michelle) Jay Leno said a heartfelt goodbye last night ending his 22 year run on the Tonight Show. Will you watch Jimmy Fallon? Or do you/will you watch David Letterman or Jimmy Kimmel?
I like Jimmy Fallon. When he moves to the Tonight Show, I'm going to have a hard time deciding whether to watch him or David Letterman.
Despite what's been passed down in late-night war lore, talk show host David Letterman tells Oprah his rivalry with Tonight Show host Jay Leno did not start when Dave was passed over for Johnny Carson's old seat. Watch as he reflects on his old friend and reveals why Jay is the funniest guy he's eve...
Zoo to You of Paso Robles is reporting that their beloved tiger Jasmine died last week; she was 19 years old. Lots of people came to see the celebrity over the years, she’d been on TV visiting Jay Leno on the Tonight Show, and she met Jack Hanna. She went to see other TV notables like Ellen, Rosie, David Letterman and even Larry King. Zoo officials say Jasmine had been healthy most of her life, save for the last few months. You can find out more about Zoo to You of Paso Robles at zootoyou.com
OK. Changing it up. I spent this past weekend at home watching TV (I have my reasons) and MAN am I glad I work most weekend nights! I got carpal tunnel syndrome in my thumb from hittin' the remote so much!!! EVERY show I tried to watch sucked so bad I HAD to change channels!! Does anybody think Jimmy Fallon is funny?? He's taking over the Tonight Show? Is he gonna bring that suck *** band "The Roots" with him?? Johnny Carson and Doc Severinson are gonna be turning in their graves! I'm almost fifty, so maybe I just don't "get" Jimmy and his suck-up interviews "...Oooh I just love that!! That's the best! You're so awesome! Hee hee". I laugh at about every seventeenth joke. *** Higgins is funnier!!! I suppose Fallon is the perfect follow-up to Jay Leno, the ultimate suck-up, but David Letterman should have gotten that gig before Leno and Fallon has no business getting it. I hope the show tanks and Dave gets the last laugh over at CBS! I like Conan more than Leno or Fallon, but not as much ...
Morgan Freeman on the Tonight Show.,. Late Show with David Letterman.!. also you will see Lady Gaga on SNL THAT WILL TRULLY TEST HER MAJISTY,.( ELOL)
Today was the birthday of John William "Johnny" Carson (October 23, 1925 – January 23, 2005), who was an American television host and comedian, known for thirty years as host of The Tonight Show (1962–1992). Although his show was already successful by the end of the 1960s, during the 1970s Carson became an American icon and remained so until his retirement in 1992. He adopted a casual, conversational approach with extensive interaction with guests, an approach pioneered by Arthur Godfrey and previous Tonight Show hosts Steve Allen and Jack Paar. Carson's show launched the careers of many performers, especially comedians. For a comedian appearing on the show, getting Johnny to laugh and being invited to the guest chair was considered the highest honor. Most notable among these were David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld, Jeff Foxworthy, Ellen DeGeneres, Joan Rivers, David Brenner, Tim Allen, Drew Carey, and Roseanne Barr. Carson was successor to The Ed Sullivan Show as a showcase for all kinds of talent, as w ...
Is Leno really leaving? While Jay Leno is stepping down from NBC's Tonight Show early next year, CBS is staying the course with David Letterman. The late night host's contract was set to expire at the end of 2014, but CBS signed him through 2015. Letterman's Late Show trails in the ratings behind Tonight, but was up 5 percent year-to-year for the first week of the new season. "Les [Moonves] and I had a lengthy discussion," said Letterman, "and we both agreed that I needed a little more time to fully run the show into the ground."
Just got word that we get to be part of audience for a live taping of the Tonight Show with David Letterman on Thursday. Should be fun!
Congrats to David Letterman on a 3 year extension to his Late Night Show. He is the funniest and even though the 'chin' stole the Tonight Show, Dave is number one!
David Letterman received a contract extension through 2015 -- giving him a run at Jimmy Fallon on NBC's Tonight Show in early 2014.
Video: Incredible - Sam Kinison’s first appearance on the Tonight Show with David Letterman, 11-14-1985.
Personal opinion: David Letterman will never need the Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon just proves it can get worse then Jay Leno.
John Prine was on David Letterman early in the morning on January 28, 1993. The prior day, Kath’s doctor, concerned that James was becoming a squatter inside of her had told us that he was going to induce labor the next day. So we were packed and ready to go to the hospital when her water broke in the middle of Law and Order. I went into full panic mode, but she had been doing her homework and said we still had time to see Michael Moriarity put away the bad guys before leaving. By the time we got to the hospital and checked in, the Tonight Show was over and David Letterman was beginning. Kath’s doctor looked her over, determined that she was dilated to 4cm and asked if she wanted an epidural. She was tempted, but was going to go fight through the discomfort. About an hour later she was at 7cm and the doctor said that our boy would be born when she got to 10. We had a nurse who was in a generally foul mood, perhaps because an hour or so earlier her doppelganger, Andre The Giant, had passed away in Fran ...

Subject: the three-network talk show wars at 10:35 Central Time I must say I’m not following this Jay Leno – David Letterman -- Jimmy (Kimmel) race 1/100th as I would have 30 years ago. I think I need to assign brother Ed to keep track of it all. This story is about Letterman making some adjustments to his writing staff... I didn’t know that a ‘brother team’ was/were his head writers. 2. Changing writers won’t help Letterman – 99% of his show follows lockstep tradition. Nobody else would care, but it’s really notable that ABC is making an entry in the 10:35 pm slot. Drawing only from memory, the last time they did this was with ‘ABC’s Wide World of Entertainment.’ I was right...this ran from 1973 to 1976. There were different hosts, and Jack Paar (Johnny’s predecessor – 1962 or so host of the Tonight Show) was one of them (I remember Peggy Cass was his announcer). ... Yes, I was right about that. Few recall that Jack Paar did try to take on Johnny, and It Didn’t Work. Instead, ...
Greg Joseph (SAG-AFTRA) WHY WE SHOULD LEAVE LINDSAY LOHAN ALONE -- AND WHAT WILL ROGERS WOULD HAVE DONE: Years ago, I profiled Will Rogers Jr, whose father is considered the gold standard for 20th century comedian-commentators. When a comedian receives the "Will Rogers Award for Comedy" today, it is a validation of that person's coimedic sensibilities. Rogers Jr. told me that his father had one golden rule -- "He wouldn't kick anybody when they were down, but anyboidy riding high was fair game." Rogers Sr. would have left Lohan alone, as should we. Every time some moronic, limited comedy mind of our day takes a cheap shot at someone who obviously could use our prayers, good thoughts and encouragement, they violate the Rogers comedy rule. I think Jay Leno is the worst example, the guy who does "Jay walking" and loves humiliating average people on camera for what they don't know about current affairs. His "Tonight Show" predessors Jack Paar, Johnny Carson (who used some of my gags) and Steve Allen, all of w ...
Tonight, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" moves to ABC's 11:35 timeslot, putting the show in direct competition with Jay Leno and David Letterman. In the newest issue of Rolling Stone, Kimmel offered some potent criticism of the "Tonight Show" host -- and did not mince words.
Late Show host David Letterman didn't hold back when chatting with Oprah Winfrey about his late-night feud with Tonight Show host Jay Leno.
Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M’s Heisman-winning quarterback, has been everywhere since winning the famed bronze statue. He’s been on the Tonight Show, he’s been on David Letterman, he’s even been on a billboard in New York's Times Square. But on Thursday … Continue reading →
Can I please replace David Letterman on the Tonight Show..
Where is the on-demand streaming service that gives us access to every David Letterman episode ever. The daytime show, the Tonight Show Guest Host gigs, Late Night, Late Show, all of it. Where is the Netflix of World Wide Pants? I want to see “Ooooh, I burned the clams” and “More pie, Admiral?” It will not truly be the future until we get this.
Just read that President Obama is to appear on the Tonight Show on Wednesday - and I believe he was just on the View, David Letterman and the Daily Show with John Stewart (to name a few) - but hey, why not? I mean its not like he has anything better to do like, I don't know, run the country!!! I think he prefers the "entertainment" side of things and deserves to have even more time to focus on his tv appearances. just sayin'
Jeff tells a few classic stories about the legendary "Tonight Show" host.
David Letterman rips Jay Leno for the way he stabbed Conan O'Brien in the back over the Tonight Show on April 28, 2011.
Led Zeppelin, along with Letterman and Buddy Guy (amongst others) being honored by the Kennedy Center.what I would give to have a set of music with Page, Plant, Jones, and Buddy Guy (and by Buddy Guy I don't mean the bulldog named that which my dad and stepmother used to own) Unlikely, sure, but we can hope, no? AND btw.sick of all the people bashing the fact that Letterman is amongst the honorees.David Letterman has been an important part of American entertainment since I was very little, whether you like him or not, his show HAS been a huge influence on modern pop culture. Keep in mind, HE was the guy that Carson wanted to succeed him on the Tonight Show, not Leno

Tune in to The "Tonight Show" with David Letterman at 11:30PM to see if Michelle and I will get some national tv time. We were on the front row at the recording of the show yesterday. On another note, this Republican National Convention is interesting. LOL
Just to let you know, now that the Olympics are over. Our U.S. American athletes are making there way around to the different talk shows For example, on the Tonight Show this week Jay Leno has lined up Gabby Douglas on Monday, Jordan Burrough's on Tuesday, Missy Franklin on Wednesday, Ryan Lochte on Thursday and for Friday he has Alyson Felix. Also if anyone like David Letterman, he going to have some U.S. Olympic Athletes this week as well.
Steve Allen’s death on October 30, 2000 deeply affected local TV person Conni Gordon. It was visionary Steve who gave Conni her first big break on NBC-TV’s Tonight Show in New York in the early 1950’s. Conni met such celebrities as Sammy Davis, Jr. and Jonathon Winters through him giving them both instant art lessons years later. Allen recommended Conni to Jack Paar, who booked her. Then Paar recommended her to Johnny Carson, who enjoyed four TV art lessons as part of the guest interviews. This was followed by an exclusive contract for six appearances with David Letterman on the Tonight Show. Letterman, through his producer, Madelaine Smithberg then arranged for Conni to be booked repeatedly, teaching Terry Wogan on BBC-TV in London, then in Scotland, later with Don Lane in Sydney, Australia. Allen never knew what a far-reaching effect his belief in presenting art lessons on TV held. It led to Conni’s selling over 17 million of her four Step Method How-to art instruction books. Her “in person” ...
Sam Kinison's second appearance on the Tonight Show with David Letterman, 1-27-1986
Welcome to the Good Time Comedy Club, featuring some of the best comedians in the country from Comedy Central, HBO, Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and MTV.
I'm reading this biography of David Letterman written in 1987. Spoilert Alert: there's NO WAY Dave doesn't inherit the Tonight Show
It’s been 20 years since Jay Leno weaseled his way into hosting the Tonight Show, taking the job from David Letterman, and 2 years since he did the exact 201205
Lea Michele attends the Tonight Show with David Letterman on 5/21/12 and shares her flawlessness with us all once again.
The very same routine done by Bill Hicks on the Tonight Show with David Letterman that was banned and cut from the show. Bill would have said something along...
What was I watching at the time? Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies, All in the Family, Hogan's Heros, M*A*S*H, Mork & Mindy, Cheers, Cosby, St. Elsewhere, Seinfeld, Friends, Grey's Atanomy, 3rd Rock and now Big Bang Theory. Oh, and some Tonight Show, David Letterman, Daily Show, Arsenio (only while it was hip) and SNL mixed in along the way.
Really do need a good PR firm. Want to have glass of blush zinfandel on the Tonight Show. & David Letterman. Do have agent.
