I recently downloaded an app that let's me listen to books while I work. This app is the greatest thing since my ancestors in Ireland learned to mash potatoes. The first book I chose was one I read as a child. Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain. I'd forgotten the metaphor Huck Finn used to describe his Dads drunkenness. He said most of the time one could hit his Pap with a Church and he wouldn't know.!! . I literally laughed out loud.!!.
Why is it that Mark Twain books, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are no longer available in school libraries? I ask my kids, who read EVERYTHING, about Mark Twain and they didn't know who he was.

- Baskin Robbins once made ketchup ice cream. This was the only vegetable flavoured ice cream produced. However, they discontinued it since they thought it would not sell well. - Samuel Clemens, the creator of the adventuresome Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, took "Mark Twain" as his pen name. This was not because he WAS a riverboat captain, but because he once wanted very badly to be one. - There are 23 doctors in the U.S. called Dr. Doctor, and one called Dr. Surgeon! - The kiwi has nostrils near the tip of its bill that allows it to sniff the ground for food.
Avery came home and told me "today my teacher said 'for example, Tom Sawyer was friends with a slave' and I said 'actually, it was Huck Finn who was friends with him. Not Tom Sawyer. I got to correct my teacher." So proud of my reader son. :)
I love the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn . I love the movie "Sandlot". I love the movie "Now and Then"... I just love kids and their innocence in adventures --- I have that kind of mentality too... So yesterday - I realized what we have thought for so many years was a big rock - is NOT! It gave with little force as I pulled weeds around it ( FREAKY! )- pressed my hand down on it and it caved in and then bounced back. "A buried treasure?" I thought or "A buried body?" - so i share with my husband--- he just grins and shakes his head ... Just like I will at him when I uncover "The Treasure"...

It should be summer time in the Philippines, no more school. But for my daughter, because of the K+12 program, school will continue until the end of May. She told me today she is now so busy she has no more time to read. I told her this story: When we were in our third year of high school, just before we went to our Christmas break, our Literature teacher, Ms. Merna Lopez, gave us an assignment: Amidst the holidays, we were supposed to read 10 classics and submit book reports for each on the first day of the resumption of classes. Even now, I can still hear the groans of disbelief from those around me. But that December was a classic for me, for during the holidays, I was with characters who would be my friends for life: Wilfred of Ivanhoe, Edmond Dantes - The Count of Monte Cristo, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Natty Bumpo and Chingachgook - the last of the Mohicans, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Captain Ahab and Ishmael, D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers. Those books, read when there was supposed ...

So that's Huck Finn in the ol' bag o' classics. Personally, i thought Tom Sawyer didnt belong and was an attempt on the part of Twain to capitalize on his previous success. the manner of *** Jim's release in the final few pages seems contrived and heavy-handed, as if Twain had a self-imposed deadline and stayed up 'til 3am tacking on the short final chapter to truncate his own hellish writing experience. That said, the first 3/4 of the book were mostly enjoyable with some laugh-worthy moments brought on by Huck and Jim's naïveté. so what's the criteria for being a character in the Once Upon a Time universe... I mean since most of Shakespeare's characters end up dead, I doubt we'd see Romeo and Juliette. But what about Miss Muffet, Princess and the Pea... Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn? And we've seen Dr. Frankenstein and there's a werewolf... when does Count Dracula show up?

After the initial headlines, there came anecdotes so salacious that she was a no-show on The Today Show, where she'd been scheduled to give a mea culpa and get on with her life. Through it all, my admiration never waned for her along with Martha Stewart and B. What ever happened to those little boys, Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer? They grew up that’s what. Getting in touch with my inner Huck Finn today. What up Tom Sawyer?
Watched Nicholas Nicholby on Netflix. It's a Dickens story. Very twisted. Kids don't hear the classics anymore. Growing up we heatd Poe and the tell tale heart, Oliver Twist, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Nothing helps a kid appreciate his family more than wretched stories of orphanages, child slavery, and GUILT. :0)
Im becoming deeply concerned about the possibility that Hollywood is running out of movies. I got Snitch because The Rock ia a good actor. But i also got Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters. I guess i got it to keep Snow White and the Huntsman company. I thought back to childhood and good very scared. Im mean picture it, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn battle for Atlantis, Jack and Jill Journey To The Center of The Earth, Humpty Dumpty Werewolf Bounty Hunter, The Little Engine That Could Is a Transformer, and Little Boy Blue Joins the Avengers. As much as i would enjoy going to Hollywood to be an action hero, im gonna ride the pine for now. I dont wanna be stuck with Anthony versus the Mutant Ninja Turtles. ( yes i know, but they are to old now to be called teenagers). The head shakes should start about.now :) Maybe i could microwave some popcorn with the door open and see if a startling metamorphosis occurs when i become angry or outraged. I would probably turn green and still be skinny.
Some of my faves. Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn had a lingerie bag, stick, fishing line, and a hook. I laughed. They caught all their bait and two bass fish.
I just had the most heated argument over Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer with
Well, the Huck Finn gang wrapped up their week with fishing, making bacon and *** cakes over the open fire (because the fish ate all the worms but no hooks!) and still managed to thwart the con-men, free Jim and get Tom Sawyer shot, (much to Tom's delight). A successful week of adventures for all.
(Cont.) and that's why we called him Mark Twain or Tom Sawyer. So I'm used to him being called Tom or Mark or even Huck Finn.
Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer 'r raft was luxurious by comparison.
When I first read Huckleberry Finn in high school, we were all asked to write an essay that either attacked or defended the pages from Chapter 32 onward. I defended them at the time, but I no longer would. I'm re-reading the novel, and I'm stunned by how boring and childish those final chapters are. It's impossible to believe that after everything Huck has learned (and un-learned) on his journey, he would be so gullible as to go along with Tom Sawyer's preposterous schemes to free Jim. I refused to admit it in high school, but Hemingway was right: "If you must read it you must stop where Jim is stolen. That is the real end. The rest is just cheating."
Travis is sick today, but we went out in the boat. Travis and I are now brown from the sun. We had a good day. We watched "Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn" .Travis is now asleep on the sofa. Merl has gone to to pick up some honey bees he has been working on.

They say that friendships fade with responsibilities, kids and age and life. But, we know that real friendships stay and are stronger no matter what happens along the way. If Rama can survive 14, what's 5 years that we might lose? When we return to our true friends, we are always ultimately the stronger for it in life! To my dear friend, who has been with me through more than one should in several lifetimes (and will surely get even more entertainment as we each attempt to live like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as adapted to the 21st century), it was great to see you after so long! The Adventure Continues.we will eventually accomplish something!
Movie recommendation: For those of you who, like me, seldom go to movies but look for the occasional gem worth seeing, Judie and I saw one today! It's called "Mud" and stars Matthew Mcconaughey and Reese Witherspoon who appears in a rather small but pivotal roll. It's a sweet coming of age story, two early teen boys reminiscent of a modern Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn who find their own mystery on an island in the Bayou of Louisiana. But see it fast.it was showing at one theater here and only twice a day. You know it's a good one when the masses aren't interested (apparently.we'll see as word of mouth gets around).
Grandsons went Hillbilly hand fishing...AKA noodling? At Pops (aka Grandpa Brosh's) river cabin today.Daughter now feeding the boys (thank goodness) and soon the 12 y/o will come home wet, muddy and reluctant to take a bath, I bet. LOL But never saw Brian so happy as he burst in the house announcing he was going fishing with cousin Dustin and Uncle Bradley! Our Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!
Ray Manzarek, Jim Morrison's oldest wisest friend, has potentially, possibly theoretically "died" to our Ordinary perceptions... I use that term very loosely, to describe a state that for Manzarek and Morrison (as evidenced by their recordings) can-not actually exist. Perhaps Morrison and Manzarek, in that lofty ascendance, cooking up spooky moods in the Soul Kitchen are now commiserating on what has kept them apart oh these many years. Perhaps they will agree: it was a Door, the Exit into Mystery, that has now been traversed, and perhaps they are standing on some Beachlike Brilliance, realizing the profundity of their Creation, their's and Robby Krieger's, John Densmore's --- devotion to the Mythopoetic Sciences. Manzarek and Morrison: Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn as heard through the voice of an Iguana named Dante. Manzarek gave an interview in 2008 with Coast to Coast Program that is full of sweeping energies, brilliant radioactive radio that challenges the Human Heart into a State of Anarchic Freedoms, no ...

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are great American classics. But Mark Twain was a lil too liberal with the N word

Wouldn't it be great to just live like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn?
Gosh, darn Tom Sawyer, you and Huck Finn are gonna be the death of me !!!
Monday morning...still high from my kayaking outing. We had to get out a couple of times and drag the boats through some shallow water due to low tide. Felt like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Life is good!
Good Morning Everyone! Sitting here this morning enjoying my coffee in the pre-dawn quietness of the morning, I’ve been thinking of my cousin Ray Apple whose memorial service was held this past weekend in Los Angeles. Unfortunately I was unable to be at his “Graduation Party”. “Cuz” and I spent one special summer together on our farm where he and his family would come to visit Aunt Jean and Uncle Bob. Being a few years older, he taught me the “ways of the world” at a young age. He taught me to swim, introduced me to Marlboro cigarettes, Coors beer and that summer we were a modern day Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn; learning to embrace life to the fullest at an early age. As time passed, we both grew up and our lives changed. He became a respected businessman, wonderful husband, father and a great example of what a Godly man should be. The phrase, “I’d rather see a sermon than hear one!”…was his mantra of living his life for all to see…an example of honesty, integrity…AND FUN to all who ...
Me and basketball are like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.
So true.I remember those magical childhood days spent with Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, and the wonderful Enid Blyton mysteries (wonder where those got to...can never find them anymore).
Tom Sawyer has taught generations of youngsters that as enjoyable and carefree as childhood might be, we all have to grow up eventually. Huck Finn has taught us all that sometimes doing what society dictates might not be the best, most moral, or even most rewarding option, and we all have to consider breaking society's conventions to do the right thing.
I finally figured it out. Sometimes takes a while; bear with me. One of my favorite movies is "Secondhand Lions", with Michael Caine, Robert DuVall, and that Osment kid. Two of my favorite books are "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and ".Huckleberry Finn". The thoughts crashed into each other a little while ago. Garth and Hub were, respectively, the geezified versions of Huck and Tom. Huck/Garth was the low-profile schemer, with more intelligence than that for which he was ever given credit, and Tom/Hub was the adventurer who would get into situations where the schemer became a necessary asset. Name me a 12-year-old boy who, given the reality of being abandoned by an irresponsible mother WOULDN'T want to be raised by Tom and Huck! Now, the sad part. For how long have Tom and Huck, along with God, been kicked out of our public schools, and have been estranged to at least one, and likely, two generations of our sons and grandsons?
I started reading Huckleberry Finn last night. I may end up regretting the fact that I haven't read Tom Sawyer but the book has been pretty interesting so far. Free Google play books :-)
Attention Deficit disorder, ADHD, childhood obesity, depression, school violence, adult diseases such as Type II diabetes and heart disease are now being seen in children as young as 5! What in the world is happening to our kids? How many of you had to be called in from playing outside to eat dinner? How many parents built forts, made toys out of sticks, pretended to be Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, biked to your friend's house, had a tree house, or just had your favorite climbing tree? How many of your parents even knew where you were in the summer months? Flash forward to today, ever notice how quiet our neighborhoods are? Where are all the children? They are either indoors on their computers or I phones or at soccer practice or in a gym somewhere. Ever heard about Nature Deficit Disorder? Nature-deficit disorder refers to the increasing tendency to spend very little time outdoors. Today's kids do not play and interact with nature in the way that their parents did, instead 21st century kids are far more lik ...
Ethan's English assignment was to match common nouns to proper nouns. The "common" list included "girl" and "book" while the "Proper" list included "Emma" and "Tom Sawyer". MY son saw "book" & immediately answered "Emma!" Hee hee - they should've picked a different girl name for that list.
Somewhere along the way, I have become a Mark Twain fan. Not much for Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, but his quotes are deep in the simplest way.
Why is it THE Adventures of Tom Sawyer but just Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Oh that's right because HUCK FINN ***
Back in the fall of ’99, I switched schools, grade levels, and school systems---a big change for me. A skinny, smiley-faced little Asian boy named KYLE CHEN was in my first sixth grade at Calhoun City Schools, and I was lucky enough to keep him in my class roster for the next six years. I don’t think I’ve ever known an easier-to-love kid---I was told he’d just come to America a few years before, but to me he was as American as Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, or any of the kids on “Hey Arnold,” the most popular TV cartoon that year. He was kind, funny, smart and more well-mannered than most. That particular class was filled with standouts of all kinds—athletes, musicians, brainiacs—yet he held his own and seem to fit in with whatever crowd he chose for a particular day. His friends were as varied as possible in a little redneck town like Calhoun—a sweet-faced wrestler who was also named Kyle, skinny, big-eared Kris Durham who would later play both college and pro football, another Asian boy w ...
Another lovely Saturday morning in SW Iowa. Sun's up. Cardinals and snowbirds are at the feeders. 19 degrees and warming to 35. A good day to build shops/stores. Stop out and grab a hammer (or screw gun). We'll have fun. Kind of like Tom Sawyer - or was it Huck Finn - and the white washing of the fence. Enjoy the day kiddos.
--As a testament of what kind of session we can expect in the Kansas Legislature, I note that Tom Sawyer is the ONLY Minority Member appointed to the Rules Committee, though, if there is to be only the one, he is the choice.
Yeah it was SO funny :) If the movie is Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn it will probably have it :)
Chairman Obama used NDAA to detain Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn indefinitely at GITMO Huck Finn...
read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, that is 2 Twainz
Adventures Of Huck Finn And Moral Progress The main character of Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn undergoes a total moral transformation upon having to make life defining decisions throughout his journey for a new life. Huck emerges into the novel with an inferiority complex caused by living with a drunken and abusive father, and with the absence of any direction. It is at this point where Huck is first seen without any concept of morality. Fortunately, Huck is later assisted by the guidance of Jim, a runaway slave who joins him on his journey and helps Huck gain his own sense of morality. Throughout Huck’s adventures, he is put into numerous situations where he must look within himself and use his own judgement to make fundamental decisions that will effect the morals of which Huck will carry with him throughout his life. Preceding the start of the novel, Miss Watson and the widow have been granted custody of Huck, an uncivilized boy who possesses no morals. Huck looks up to a boy named Tom Sawyer who h ...
Just gotta share this here...Thank you, Miriam Radstrom, so much, for your beautiful thoughts... "All I keep thinking is that Lillian has stepped out of something written by Mark Twain - the way she talks, her humor. I think of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, as if she is from a bygone time. And also I keep thinking of when I was child and my mother or father would read to us, or we’d listen to the radio, and we got to really use our imaginations. This is what the listening to your story is doing to me. I feel like my imagination is so alive, and that makes me feel so good. (I hope they don’t make it into a movie too soon, so people can imagine everything the way they’d like to. )"
"Call Me Adam" chats with rising performer Anthony Crouchelli about starring as "Huck Finn" in the new National Tour of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer!"
J Meacham quoting Tom Sawyer on We had an evangelist come thru town who was so good that Huck Finn stayed saved until Tuesday.
Mark Twain Aphorisms and all, Twain was an American as great as Lincoln or Leadbelly. That is, deeply rooted in the land of his birth, yet unblemished by either bias or zealotry. Tom Sawyer is for kids, but Huck Finn stands up to any other novel in this *** language of ours. He is evidence that this country should be.
Happy birthday to Samuel Langhorne Clemens (aka Mark Twain), who was born this day in 1835. Although most of his work was geared towards adults, the influences Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn can be seen throughout children's literature.
Here is a debate and thought for the day. I read Tom Sawyer earlier this year for the first time. I am now reading Huck Finn for the first time. They are both excellent and I see how they endured the test of time. Huck Finn though has the N word every other sentence it seems like. The story takes place in Antebellum America so it is a reflection on how people thought and talked so it's accurate and the way it should be written. My question is should the book be read in today's PC schools? Are they too racist to be read in the schools? I think they should be read in part because of the N word being used so much. It could open a dialogue of our pitiful stain on our country's past and make the students think a little bit. Provoking thought should be one of the schools top goals. I have no idea if they allow it to be assigned to classes in today's America or not but my guess would be that in most schools folks would have a cow. I could be wrong though. I am not in those schools and do not know for su ...
"Why, blame it all, we've GOT to do it. Don't I tell you it's in the books? Do you want to go todoing different from what's in the books and get things all muddled up? -Tom Sawyer in Adventures of Huck Finn
Tomorrow, 11:30 am.The Godfather I & II.AMC all day all night. When I was a kid it was Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, The Yearling, The Mayflower, Wizard of Oz and of course It's A Wonderfull Life as well as many other great classic holiday movies. Don't get me wrong...Godfather is a classic, and is 1 of my favorites. But tomorrow I'll take The Yearling. I remember eating Thanksgiving dinner with my Great Grandfather, Grandfather, and Father and watching The Yearling.
I just finished reading The adventures of Tom Sawyer, but I don't have a copy of The adventures of Huck Finn. No! I need more adventures!!! Oh well, until I can find one I'll console myself with Pippi Longstocking.
Mark Twain replying to an accusation that "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" was obscene and not suitable for young readers: "I wrote 'Tom Sawyer' & 'Huck Finn' for adults exclusively, & it always distressed me when I find that boys and girls have been allowed access to them. The mind that becomes soiled in youth can never again be washed clean. I know this by my own experience, & to this day I cherish an unappeased bitterness against the unfaithful guardians of my young life, who not only permitted but compelled me to read an unexpurgated Bible through before I was 15 years old. None can do that and ever draw a clean sweet breath again on this side of the grave."
Sad but true. American childhood is being threatened by the control disease. Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn would have been locked up.
We go through life making friends of all shapes and sizes, meeting them in all different environments, We make them growing up in school, in the workplace, and even through other friends. Believe it or not we even make them in places that we normally wouldnt think of as we dont know the individual personally, but if we are to be honest with ourselves who wouldnt have wanted to sit on the porch with Sheriff Andy Taylor and his Bumbling Deputy Barney Fife listening to their antics while eating a slice of Aunt Beas homeade pie. Meeting Robin Williams when he first arrived from Ork, Helping John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and kicking *** beside Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse, We get to know these individuals on the silver screen watching the different characters they play and in turn they become our friends, and not just the silver screen but books as well, I for one have floated down the Wild Mississippi with Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, and hung out at Ponyboys house in the Outsiders, I have solve . ...
Devin will be performing in the play Big River, the story of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, this weekend at Poway Performing Arts Center if you feel like going to the theatre. :-) Sat night 7:30, Sun 2:00pm. I'd say, "Break a leg, Devin" but he broke his wrist again getting bucked off a horse last week, so I better just say "Good luck and have a blast on the big stage, Devin!"
I guess I will go out and finish staining my deck railing today, unless someone wants to come over and have all the fun and do it for me? What ??? It worked for Huck Finn or was it Tom Sawyer ???
I don't know if its the sleep deprivation, but no one can convince me Mark Twain didn't just Tyler Durden us with Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
Check out a poster of my upcoming movie "Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn" !
After reading Huck Finn, I decided that Tom Sawyer is a ding-dong.
will vote!!!..also saw a copy of you in Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn...at checkout today :).
"Today, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn would have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and medicated". - Shannon Brownlee of New America Foundation
Finsihed reading Hemmingway's "The Old Man and the Sea." I will need to do some research to see what others think about it, and there is not enough room here for me to express all that is going through my mine, but Santiago went for it, in a way he scored both a victory and a loss. Not a defeat...because he pushed the envelope, demonstrated determination in the face of battle and faith after defeat. "Get that well too, lie down, old man, and I will bring you your clean shirt. And somethign to eat." -Monolin I wish I knew what the next fishing trip held for the old man and the young boy...what I do know, is, Santiago will not stop fighting. He will achieve victory! I have started reading another book, this time on my Kindle, "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." I have met a modern day Huck Finn, but I grew up with a Tom Sawyer, my childhood buddy Mark and of course I grew up with this book.
“You don't know about me without you have read a book by the name of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” the first sentence of Huck Finn -__-
Brazilian Car Washer "The Reports of My Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated"!! Pulls a Mark Twain and shows up at his own funeral! Just like Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!
So I finished my reader response journals for Huck Finn. I was looking over them, and realized that it accurately depicts my feelings for the book. At the beginning, I was all happy and analytic, talking about Twain's use of imagery and beautiful characterization. By the end, I was essentially just yelling at Tom Sawyer and keysmashing in anger, but in actual words.
Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, thank yo so much guys.. .
Just finished audiobook of Tom Sawyer; starting Huck Finn.
Last night I had a major bout of insomnia. Didn't feel even remotely sleepy, so after spending better then 3 hours of tossing and turning in bed in a failed effort to get to sleep, I gave up, got up and read until about 8:30 this morning when I finally started to feel drowsy and was at last able to get to sleep. Once I was at long last asleep, I had a rather weird dream. In my dream, for some reason my friends and family thought that I had some how died because someone had spread a lie that I was dead and for some reason everyone believed the lie. I think that I had simply been out of town for a short trip or something. I got back to town as my funeral was in progress. Talk about a Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn kind of moment when I showed up at my own funeral. A very weird moment indeed. After that some how I ended up being a guest on the David Letterman Show to talk about the whole experience. Weird, very weird!
Nothing dies. It only changes form. This evening The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will become a memory. Catch it at 4 PM before its transformation.
omg they are playing that awful Rush song about Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn on Freaks and Geeks.

Yes, I remember. Dave and I used to take our raft down the creek and play Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Those were the good ole days.
Mark Twain is severely underrated. Check out something other than Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer. You won't regret it.
I grew with Huck Finn and Tom sawyer but I guess todays Tom Sawyer, He gets high on you? What a Rush.??
I'm trying to find morals in Tom Sawyer for a essay. Glad it's not for Huck Finn, or else I would get shot.
I've spent the night watching Louis CK videos. Titles on the list "Tom Sawyer vs Huck Finn," "Louis CK - Schindler's list" & it gets better.
Only managed 5974 words this past week but that included a drive up to Hannibal MO since Dan had never been to Mark Twain country. Got to see about 20 original Norman Rockwell paintings for Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. He was the first artist to illustrate the books who actually visited Hannibal and the cave.
Rereading Huck Finn. Twain is hilarious - he would have loved The Daily Show. I just read part where Big Jim thinks he was kidnapped by witches and the following bit where Tom Sawyer gets together a gang to rob & kill innocent people - or ransom them - though none of them know what a ransom is.
Because "Revenge" is a hit and was based on "The Count of Monte Cristo," 33% of the pilot sales this pitch season have been based on public domain works. Off the top of my head: Moby *** Taming of the Shrew, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, Alice in Wonderland, Hamlet, and Cyrano. Thanks to the success of Homeland, adapted from Israel, another 33% are based on foreign series. Many of the rest are a mix of "based on the writers' own life" and procedurals with a twist ("she had a stroke" "she's got Alzheimers")
I really like Huck Finn! I kinda wanna read Tom Sawyer when I'm done with this one :p
“If Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer were alive today, we’d say they had ADD or a conduct disorder. They are who they are, and we need to love them for who they are. Let’s not try to rewire them.” ~Michael Gurian
Book to read for English...i cant choose between between Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer...ahh any opinions?
"I like the part in Huck Finn so far when Tom Sawyer pays Ben Rogers 5cents not to reveal his secrets. That was a good business move." Anakin
Take the nearest book, go to page 52 and copy the 5th sentence . "I'd rather sit on a hot stove than to miss trying out that cat tonight." (Script of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer) Tom's line to Huck Finn
I think you'd find Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn registered in the juvenile delinquints database today. also Huck'll be with CPS.
This country is the same one that produced Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Sigh.
Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Lord of the Flies, and To Kill A Mockingbird all
Studio Figueroa – Rooftop Palapa Studio in Bucerias Here you can live just like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!
Good old adventures like Huck Finn & Tom Sawyer, Jules Verne, Robin Hood, most inherited from my mother.
Was it Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer who conned friends into painting the picket fence? Hunter just asked me to show her how to clean the litter box and by the time I showed her it was done. Smart kid!
Spent this morning playing Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn with a friend SYLVIA BRYSON. iI am going to put her in for friend of the year award. She is about 6 years older than me and yest she drove up to the house at 9a.m. ready to work. We made a lot of headway on the front porch and rails. Next comes preping and painiting the back porch. I'll poat b4 and after pictures another day. Hugs to Sylvia Bryson
Remember reading that Mark Twain sold his work door-to-door when he first started. Imagine having one of those copies of Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer? Wow!
The 26th of 52 short stories we will adapt to film in 2013 is Mark Twain’s The Captain’s Story. Twain created such iconic characters as Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. He was also a great satirist. You can read the story here.

I wrote a chapter for Mark TwainK Critical Insights a couple of years ago, and I discovered a review of the book on the internet. The mention of the essay is quite amusing - but you'll have to read the book to see why the reviewer Kevin MacDonnell thinks you'll fall off your chair: Hilton Obenzinger's "Pluck Enough to Lynch a Man" examines Mark Twain's conception of manhood. Manhood as a social construct is examined in the various ways it is presented in Twain's works, and several kinds of manhood are identified (the frontier man, the plantation man, the entrepreneurial man). Obenzinger's essay becomes quite entertaining as he looks for the character in Twain's writings who represents the exemplary depiction of "male character." A long list of possible candidates are discussed and rejected: Colonel Sherburn, David Wilson, Hank Morgan, Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Jim, Injun Joe, etc. Finally, as Rasmussen promises in his introduction, his final choice may knock some readers out of their chairs. Obenzinger's sur ...
Playhouse in the Park tonight! Huck Finn, Jim, and Tom Sawyer. Very good play. Two reasons among others as to why I like it: Sabry Poor and Savannah Poor are in it.
I wish I lived the life of Huck Finn. I'd settle for Tom Sawyer too. I want to be able to buy a loaf of bread, a haircut, and milk for $1
Its like my Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn days. How I miss it. Thank you.
Went and saw "Big River" at The Village Theatre, great show, brings me back to my early reading days, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn! As usual The Village Theatre does it again, the set was magnificent, such creativity, the acting, the singing, the dancing, all was superb!
Hannibal Helmsman Hilarity About 20 years ago, my wife and I, on the spur of the moment, took a long weekend trip to Hannibal, Missouri. Although I had navigated towboats past Hannibal, and had got on and off numerous vessels there, I had never really seen the town .Mark Twain's boyhood home, or the Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Becky Thatcher tourist tra.uhh...attractions. My wife had never been to Hannibal. "So, honey, what would you like to do?", I asked, as we arrived at the Hannibal riverfront. We noticed a long line of people boarding the paddle-wheel excursion boat, "Mark Twain". "Would you like to take an excursion on the Mississippi?, I asked. Sharon thought that would be fun, so we bought tickets and joined the line. It was a buffet lunch excursion (bar-b-que, slaw, beans, etc) ...with a 3-piece ragtime band for entertainment. As soon as the mooring lines were cast off and the boat began to move downriver, two things happened. (a) the cash-only-bar opened for business and (b) the 12-15 peop ...
Yesterday on our way to KC, we stopped in Hannibal MO. Very interesting little town. I can definately see how Mark Twain could envision Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and all his other characters in this beautiful setting. Would like to go back and spend some more time there. Today we went to the *** League Hall of Fame. That was very cool and very educational. Really enjoyed it. Now just chillin until it's time to go to the ball park. The park by the way is very nice. Not as big as most so it's very close to the field and intimate. Love the smaller parks.
So, who else is at least kind of excited about ABC's new steampunk Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn show?
I went in a bar/restaurant in Eureka Springs, Ark, Friday night, where 1/3 of the people were dressed like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. I seemed to fit in quite well. ?
Apparently ABC has given a script order for a new Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer tv series in which they reconnect in their 20's and form an investigative firm in a "steampunk" New Orleans.
Just found out that our German Shepherds were born. We receive an email with the pictures. We pick them up in two months. The boys and I are really excited about getting Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn in our home.
Tom Sawyer is a nice kid. Huckleberry Finn is a dirty white trash kid who won't stop saying N-r.
Mark Twain was more than Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!!
"Tom Sawyer started at 3rd base Friday for He went 1-for-3" Did Huck Finn play Shortstop?
So is Huck Finn the same as Tom Sawyer but just his point of view? Because I read Tom Sawyer in 7th grade & I didn't understand a *** thing
I am taking the Bart train to San Francisco today to pick up my grandsons for an overnight here in Martinez! We are skipping church tomorrow and going swimming instead! Sounds like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!
Reading: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, The Prince and the Pauper I'm going on a Mark Twain bender. It's a very odd chaser to hours of Castlevania 1-4 and Punch Out. Tom Sawyer is in particular good. It's status as a children's novel does it no favors at all. Twain is very effective at cloacking biting cynicism with genuine appreciation for boyhood antics and old southern towns. The result is a very human portrait, a Huck Finn that licks instead of bites. One cannot hate Huck and Aunt Polly. Their ignorance and self-centerdness is presented through Twain's lens of witiness that understands and accepts their flaws all while taking the *** out of them. Truly a masterwork.
Went to pick up Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn in Jefferson City last night after 220 miles on the river! They gave the MR 340 river race a great effort but the wind, heat, and lack of sleep was too much. Good job Ben, JT, and Tim! We are proud of you!
Finished re-reading "Tom Sawyer" this afternoon. It was last read to me by my mother, and that should tell you how long it's been. What a terrific book. Funny, exciting and a real exploration of childhood wonder and adventure. Now on to "Huck Finn!"
time to introduce Cj to Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.
Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn: world's absolute worst rescue crew...
I'd invite any of you in the area to come laugh and enjoy some really good country music for a couple of hours. Center on the Square's show on the Harding Academy stage happens this Friday night--then Saturday afternoon and night. This cast is one of the most talented I've ever worked with. Come enjoy Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
...their disguises with an air better attributed to Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer.
Went to a play in Visalia last night - it was put on by the best of the best from the local schools. I saw our church Violinist in the play. The play was Huck Finn & Tom Sawyer - very good.

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn stopped by today
I didn't make the connection between the Huck Finn shopping center and Hannibal missouri until I was leaving, but then I realized he was just the Ron Wesley of my grandparent's generation. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever read Tom Sawyer.
News flash!!! If you haven't already done so, you need to read Judith Richards' "Summer Lightning" ! It is the most engaging, charming, heartwarming novel I have read in a long time - and it's true!!! Move over, Tom Sawyer, Dennis the Menace, and Huck Finn, we have a new child hero and his name is Terry! Fantastic storytelling by a gifted writer... can't wait for the movie!!!
We spent a day in Twain's town of Hanibal. It is a shame that the America's greatest writer is being shunned in the name of political correctness. Ironically, one of the very things he enjoyed lampooning. If you ever have a chance to see Hannibal, you will be blessed to see Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn come to life.
Vacation has been great so far. Stopped off in Hannibel , MO for a bit and took some Pics of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Had a sleep over at a rest stop in Tenn. Went to our favorite Waffel House in No. Carolina. Mia recognized me right away when I walked through the door, had a big ole smile on her face saying Nana! Brought them to the motel yesterday and went swimming, She loved it, didn't want to get out even though her lips were quivering from the cold. Bringing sparklers over there today - she how she does with those.
We American as can be...like Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn...
Hey Kat :) when does Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn come out?
My brother and I used the picnic table and benches for all sorts of things. We played Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn going down the Mississippi on a raft using the table, that is just one of our games.
Best quote in Huck Finn: when asked of Tom Sawyer why he did it "Why, I wanted the adventure of it"
Things I have recently learned: I can camp without a man, is it as easy, no, but doable. I learned that 5 people and 6 floats tubes can fit in a jeep, it is then called a jypnee. I learned that a cold shower is better than no shower and must bring propane next time. I learned generators need oil and jeeps too! I learned that Tom Sawyer aka Jayden and Huck Finn aka Braxten can while away 8 plus hours at the pond without feeling the least bit sorry for grandma (little did they know I was enjoying it all the while.) I learned that leaches are just as creepy this year as they were last year.
gave Samuel Clemens the perfect backdrop to create The Adventures of Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn
The bit about Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer is just.. wow. A+ stuff.
Has anyone read Mark Twain recently? We're about to embark on a road trip, and I have the most vivid memories of listening to Tom Sawyer and then Huck Finn (with children in the car!) on our previous trips. I'm not sure that there's a more relevant American author alive today. Even his pen name was superbly apt... his job was to examine the depth (or lack thereof) from above.
Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn will always be a part of my childhood.I They crack me big time! love em to bits! :)
It seems Ron Howard and Donny Most played Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn in a TV movie. Both were in their 20s. This sounds terrible. I must see it.
My 6 yr old dtr n the sweet boys nxt door (4, 8) have Huck Finn type adventure going, bt I can see her Tom Sawyer-ish ways
