Ok, let's get a few things straight. This is what happened today. President Obama, through Joe Biden, began the day working toward a deal with Mitch McConnell that would avert the cliff, but in so doing would up the tax rate cutoff from $250,000 to $400,000 or so dollars. The immediate reaction from the left (Dems in Congress, pundits, Huffpost, Paul Krugman, Bernie Sanders, etc) was that President Obama was caving to the Republicans. And he was. But, that's what he decided was best, and he had to get Democrats in Congress to fall in line to get the compromise deal pushed through. So he called a press conference with what was termed middle class Americans standing behind him, and he talked up how important it was to those standing behind him that we get a deal passed. The Democratic Party’s 2012 platform calls for raising the minimum wage and pegging it to inflation — and a wage bill already introduced by congressional Democrats could cost at least 256,000 jobs, according to a new report. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut have proposed raising the federal minimum wage in three stages to $9.80 per hour — an increase of 35 percent over the current level — and then annually raising the wage based on inflation. The bill also stipulates that employers should pay 70 percent of the full minimum to workers who receive tip income, an increase of 200 percent. “Earlier studies have projected at least 467,000 lost jobs following a wage hike of this magnitude,” according to the report from the Employment Policies Institute (EPI). “Accounting for the smaller labor force post-recession, job losses in the range of 256,000 to 768,000 are projected based on results found in earlier economic literature.” The EPI is a nonprofit research organizat ...

I'm currently writing an article about how, according to some politicans (Tom Harkin), for-profit colleges largely feed into national student loan debt and force many students to drop out because of expensive tuiton prices. First we had Mayor Bloomberg trying to lock up infant formula so mothers would nurse their children "because it's better for them" and now we have Democrat Senator Tom Harkin pushing the Obamacare bill for the following reason: “There are many women who take birth control pills, for example, because they have terrible menstrual cramps once a month, some of them almost incapacitated, can’t work,” said Harkin. “I know of young women myself who, because of this, aren’t able to work and be productive, and it’s prescribed by their doctor.” Well, thank heavens Tom Harkin is unafraid to play women like checkers in his argument for socialized medicine and his attack on freedom of religion.
