WEEK TWENTY-FIVE: Dare to Grow Cool Blades by Pam Gross It was a vaguely familiar feeling—a feeling of freedom experienced a lifetime ago. Motion. Speed. Wind. Excitement. Small but present danger. Oh, yes! That same exhilaration that comes with competence. I was doing it! I was rollerblading on the boardwalk at Seaside, Oregon, on a glorious late summer afternoon. Two miles of flat, smooth pavement, sun‐shine, ocean air. I couldn’t help my smile; it was as ridiculously relentless as a yellow happy face. My body moved with relative ease and a modicum of grace. Push, glide, push, glide—don’t lift the feet so high. Swing the hips. Oops! Too much push means too much glide. Let’s get more control here. Up and down! Up and down! Miles and miles—every once in a while picking up the scent of a cigar as I once again whizzed past my husband reading Tom Clancy on a bench. Getting tired, I informed my husband that on the next pass I wanted to stop. “Okay,” he said. “I’ll be ready.” Stopping w ...
Favorite Fiction and Audio books and Narrators -- in no particular order. (I listen to audio books as my available time is short and my eyes are getting old). Books/Authors: Mercy Thomson series (and spin-offs) by Patrica Briggs. Daniels Series (and spin-offs) by Illona Andrews Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne "Cassandra Kresnov Series" by Joel Sepherd. All Sous series by Deborah Harkness also listen to some more macho stuff like the Mitch Rapp, Gray Man, and other hard "action" orientated stuff... I am calling the above books out as they have an amazing depth to the writing or have humor along with the action. FYI: I no longer like Tom Clancy nor Stephine Myers. I would add the Percy Jackson series to the list above but the narrator *** Cool Narrators (folks that bring an audio book story to life): Lorelei King Dina Pearlman Renée Raudman Marguerite Gavin' George Guidall Armand Schultz' Luke Daniels

I love reading, go in spurts, sometimes deep, sometimes light, sometimes just filling up time. I just read The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman and it was a great historical type novel relating a unique view of the Masada ... very good, took a few days to read (remember, sometimes deep) ... then I picked up the JA Jance Judgement Call ... and finished it in 24 hours. Guess I needed a mystery break. Now on to a many-paged Tom Clancy (haven't read one of his in years, trying it out again).
It's world book day. I am currently reading " Threat Vector" by Tom Clancy. Just finished 2nd read of " I am Ozzy" by Ozzy Osbourne. Lined up is Grishams latest and a Faye Kellerman. Who is reading what?
Think that you're safe from drone attacks? Here's Janet Napolitano's list of folks to watch for domestic terrorism: “Americans who were concerned about unemployment, taxes, illegal immigration, gangs, border security, abortion, high costs of living, gun restrictions, FEMA, the IRS, The Federal Reserve, and the North American Union/SPP/North American Community.” The ‘Missouri Documents‘ also declared “potential domestic terrorists might like gun shows, short wave radios, combat movies, movies with white male heroes, Tom Clancy novels, and Presidential candidates Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and Chuck Baldwin.
By the way I had a great time at The Last Book Store. This is truly a place you can get lost in. Its so dimly lit that finding your way around is a challenge. And that's the fun of it. I looked at fiction and there were old Nora Roberts books next to Tom Clancy's books. No rhyme or reason to how the place is laid out and I love that. Also wonderful artwork scattered through. The biggest challenge of finding this bookstore is just finidng the front door on 5th Street. You have to walk around corners that are fenced off for construction and because its not safe by those buildings. There aren't a lot of homeless people there. Skid Row is just a couple blocks away. But a couple blocks in the other direction is The Music Center, The Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Colburn School of Music and MOCA And practically across the street is the 5th Street entrance to the Metro Red Line. But the entire area is a challenge because you really have to pay attention to where your going. However if you get turned around just ...

T4D from Kirk Weisler: Insecure managers create complexity... Real leaders don't need clutter. “When Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, he had 20,000 words with which to work. When Lincoln scribbled the Gettysburg Address on the back of an envelope there were about 114,000 words at his disposal. Today there are more than 600,000 words in Webster’s Dictionary. Tom Clancy appears to have used all of them in his last thousand-page novel. “Insecure managers create complexity. Frightened, nervous managers use thick, convoluted planning books and busy slides filled with everything they’ve known since childhood. Real leaders don’t need clutter. People must have the self-confidence to be clear, precise, to be sure that every person in their organization - highest to lowest - understands what the business is trying to achieve. But it’s not easy. You can’t believe how hard it is for people to be simple, how much they fear being simple. They worry that if they’re simple, people will think they’re s ...

Secret State Police Report: Terrorists follow Ron Paul, Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin,. MIAC STRATEGIC REPORT 02/20/09 The Modern Militia Movement The Militia Movement began in the 1980’s and reached its peak in 1996. Several social, economic, and political factors contributed to the surge in militia participation in the 1990’s. The primary motivator for the movement was the farm crisis of the 1980’s, which caused the destruction of 3/4 of a million small to medium size family farms. Overall, 11 million Americans lost their jobs during this time period. Academics contend that female and minority empowerment in the 1970s and 1960s caused a blow to white male’s sense of empowerment. This, combined with a sense of defeat from the Vietnam War, increased levels of immigration, and unemployment, spawned a paramilitary culture. This caught on in the 1980’s with injects such as Tom Clancy novels, Soldier of Fortune Magazine, and movies such as Rambo that glorified combat. This culture glorified white males an ...

After three years of reading nothing but books on social, political and military history, leavened with the occasional bit of serious literature, all in an effort to improve the oul' mind, this weekend I am bet into a John Grisham book. I can feel myself getting dumber by the chapter but I can't put the bleedin' thing down - pure literary crack. There is probably a Grisham house somewhere, full of ruined people huddling in dark corners with his books, having performed obscene acts on the street outside to obtain them. I haven't yet sunk to Tom Clancy, but it's only a matter of time. * Hello, my name is Paul and I read crap. Hi Paul.
Death: ' In the silence he could hear her, but the smells were gone and her feel was gone' Tom Clancy
If somebody ever kills a POTUS, I'm thinking that Tom Clancy and David Baldacci could team up to find the killer (one of them is the killer)
I'm dying to know what the *** happened at the Superdome? Glad it seems just a fluke - I was having serious Tom Clancy paranoia in the first 5 minutes of this outtage.
In the nut graf of NYTimes magazine profile of French spy novelist Gerard de Villiers, author Robert F. Worth writes: "Other pop novelists, like John le Carré and Tom Clancy, may flavor their work with a few real-world scenarios and some spy lingo, but..." Anyone else find Worth's comparison of le Carré with Clancy to be specious, and characterization of le Carré as a "pop" novelist dubious, if not plain wrong?
List of films about the CIA The character Jack Ryan in Tom Clancy's books is a CIA agent.[4] Ryan is never an "agent" or case officer in the usual sense of the term, as opposed to characters such as John Clark and Domingo Chavez. Ryan starts as a contract consultant, becomes an analyst, and rises in responsibility. There are operations officers that play a major role in Clancy's novels, such as Idamur's mom, to say nothing of the creative and intelligent Mary Pat Foley. Graham Greene's The Quiet American, which has been issued in two editions and made into a film, is based on an amoral CIA agent operating in Southeast Asia.[5] [edit] Films and TV series * In Three Days of the Condor, a low-level CIA employee codenamed Condor (Robert Redford) works in a small brownstone office reading books, magazines, etc., looking for enemy codes. He slips out to buy some food, and upon soon returning, finds that all his co-workers have been murdered. In his escape, he chances upon and abducts a woman (Faye Dunaway) for ...
Well, the first month of 2013 is now in the history books. And for the most part, it was a quiet month. No major drama in my life- although I was one of the millions who ended up getting the flu this season. Which knocked me on my backside for 4 days…well, really 7, given that I spend the weekend afterwards doing nothing as well. But all that time gave me 3 days of spending time trying to get better and reading. (In fact, one of the three books I finished this book was read WHILE I was sick… which is sure to mess up how I view the events of the book, I am sure). Anyway, as for my list for 2013 of reading- well, I have knock off three. Not great, but not horribly bad either. Mind you, they are not the Toe-Crushing Books that Tom Clancy or Stephen King put out, but since each one of the books was read from a E-reader, dropping them would be more disastrous….   * · Titan – Stephen Baxter; (The first book of 2013).  2nd book in the NASA series. In this book, a group of radical explorers decide that ...

At Axis Books we can't wait to read and sell The Salvation OF A Saint. Here's a little note on the Author to keep you occupied until then. Author Keigo Higashino is one of the most popular and biggest selling fiction authors in Japan—as well known as James Patterson, Dean Koontz or Tom Clancy are in the USA. Born in Osaka, he started writing novels while still working as an engineer at Nippon Denso Co.(presently DENSO). He won the Edogawa Rampo Prize, which is awarded annually to the finest mystery work, in 1985 for the novel Hōkago (After School) at age 27. Subsequently, he quit his job and started a career as a writer in Tokyo. In 1999, he won the Mystery Writers of Japan Inc award for the novel Himitsu (The Secret), which was translated into English by Kerim Yasar and published by Vertical under the title of Naoko in 2004. In 2006, he won the 134th Naoki Prize for Yōgisha X no Kenshin. His novels have been nominated five times before winning with this novel. The Devotion of Suspect X was the second ...
OPINIONS ON THE XCOM FPS (WARNING: I'M EXPRESSING MY OPINION :WARNING) (NO SERIOUSLY, I'M EXPRESSING MY OPINION.) Okay, so suddenly Xcom is going first person, and then maybe third person... But perspective change isn't always bad, remember Fallout 3 and metroid prime? In my personal opinion, get rid of the geometric enemies, bring back the *** sectoids and snakemen, come on, that's ridiculous. Also maybe add the enemies from Terror from the Deep, I mean the publisher is 2K, and they also published Bioshock! Remember that FPS set in the *Underwater city*? Also they should also bring back the enemies from apocalypse. In terms of gameplay, maybe mix the game Star wars: Republic commando, with the battlefield 2 rts-like mechanic in which you spot people on the map for your team, and that RTS-like component in Tom Clancy's: Advanced Warfighter where you press tab and make a squad member go where you want him to go. And they should bring back the Jetpack suits, flying plasma tanks, and make it as close to ...

I just received a review from Pat McGuian, Associate Publisher of "The City Sentinel" newspaper, www.city-sentinel.com, published in Oklahoma. Text of the review follows. Killers and consequences, in Michael E. Newell’s fine debut novel By Patrick B. McGuigan Associate Publisher, The City Sentinel www.city-sentienl.com “The Killers of Gilbourne County,” Michael E. Newell’s debut novel, is a solid and imaginative slice of life in an imagined rural county, somewhere in a quite real Oklahoma. That county is a place that seems familiar in the reading, as one of those enclaves within driving distance of Oklahoma City, where hunters and others step away from urban centers and return to their rural roots. Its authenticity arises from the author’s hunting experiences and writing ability, as he covers even technical issues in a way accessible to non-specialists (evocative, in a way, of Tom Clancy). Like many hunting books, it has near-reverence for the natural world, particularly for the whitetail de ...

I found a survey on the web that asked, "Are you well read?" So I took it. It listed 37 books, and for each one, asked if I (i) had read it, (ii) had read part of it, (iii) had not read it, and finally (iv) had not even ever heard of it. I didn't do so well. Out of 37 books, I had read... oh what was it? Oh yeah, ZERO. In fact, I hadn't even heard of 26 out of the 37. At least I had heard of the one about some wrathy grapes, and the other one about some people trying to kill some poor mockingbird. But frankly, I object to the whole premise of the survey. After all, it did not include a single book about submarines, or anything written by Patrick Robinson, Tom Clancy, Michael Crichton, or even Dr. Seuss. And I consider myself to be extensively well read on all four of these authors. Oh well, back to youtube videos on special relativity, which by the way, didn't show up on the survey either.
I have read Walleye wisdom In-Fisherman front to back and no where does it explain on how to deal with hobos stealing my equipment out of the back of my truck...where is Tom Clancy when I need him?
Ready for a spending spree at Barnes & Noble thanks to some great Christmas and birthday gifts. What do you suggest? Any favorite reads this past year or must have references? I know I'll get Cloud Atlas, and typically enjoy Tom Clancy, and Robert Ludlum types, and I have a plethora of Christian non-fiction. But, I can never have enough of that either. Good reads anyone?
For all my fellow Audible fans: They have some great bargains today for $6.95. Clare Danes reading Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale; Colin Firth reading Graham Greene's The End of the Affair; and Lou Diamond Phillips reading Tom Clancy's Locked On plus a lot more.

Too much to read!! 3 more Songs of Ice and Fire novels, the new Tom Clancy novel, 2 Vince Flynn novels, and now a new Dan Brown!?!?!
Tom Clancy for what ever reason did not hold my attention but Brad Meltzer's The Fifth Assassin seems to have my full attention.
A Russian computer security firm says it has uncovered a new, far-ranging cyberspying campaign that targets government secrets. The firm, Kaspersky Labs, has tantalizing named the malicious software behind the attack "Red October," a nod to the famous Tom Clancy novel.

After a day or so of 'analysis'(ie watching movies) I have decided that my favorite actor to play Tom Clancy's character of Jack Ryan is Alec Baldwin. Ben Affleck really didnt cut it, and Harrison Ford plays it well, but he's always played that type of character,so all they had to do was slap the name Jack Ryan on him and it was Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan. Baldwin may not have even been on the screen as much as either Ford or Affleck in their respective films, but when he was on screen he was a good mix of smarts and humor(and action the one time he fired a gun). When the new Jack Ryan film, aptly named Jack Ryan, comes out in 2013, I dont expect to much from Chris Pine as Ryan, but who knows. Has anyone else seen all these films that shares my opinion or has input on the movie interpretations of Jack Ryan?
The character of Jack Ryan, who appears in many Tom Clancy novels and was also played by Harrison Ford in the popular 1992 movie Patriot Games, is also based on Steve Pieczenik. “It’s a total make-up, make believe, we’re in an American theater of the absurd….why are we doing this again….nine years ago this man was already dead….why does the government repeatedly have to lie to the American people,” asked Pieczenik. Pieczenik said that the decision to launch the hoax now was made because Obama had reached a low with plummeting approval ratings and the fact that the birther issue was blowing up in his face. “They are so desperate to make Obama viable, to negate the fact that he may not have been born here, any questions about his background, any irregularities about his background, to make him look assertive….to re-elect this president so the American public can be duped once again.” “They ran the attacks,” said Pieczenik, naming *** Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz, Stephen Hadley, Elliott A ...

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction for Microsoft Xbox 360: need to sell
I love to read but my 2013 resolution is to read someone different because my list of authors are ALWAYS the same - Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Stuart Woods, Brad Thor, James Patterson, Clive Cussler, W.E.B. Griffin, Brian Haig. I need more Diane Mott Davidson, Alafair Burke, James Lee Burke, Lisa Scottoline, Jodi Picoult whom I have enjoyed previously but stayed in a rut for awhile. But taking Stephen King or Ted Dekker away would be like removing the ever present cranberry juice and tuna from the frig. I would like to read the "Odd" series by Dean Koontz, a writer I have NEVER read.
it's is I'm reading Tom Clancy books right now, the dude who make the war books and made that wack *** Splinter Cell game
Travis Watson's Top 10 Games of 2012: NUMBER 10: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning This game suffers from a lot of what Dragon Age. In particular the stock characters. Only worse. There are two things that save it. Todd MacFarlane's art direction and it's battle system. And it comes off strong. NUMBER 9: Max Payne 3 Max Payne and it's sequel are outdated, so it is hard to go back when you are used to modern games. Max Payne 3 is for those of us who enjoyed Remedy's classics, since the character will not stick with new audiences. Very enjoyable. NUMBER 8: Borderlands 2 It was everything the original was and more. NUMBER 7: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier An idea so great, Black Ops 2 ripped off of it. Equipped with a huge *** story that was years in the making, this game is no afternoon or weekend game. Although the graphics aren't great, it shows why Ghost Recon is better than Call of Duty, Battlefield and Metal of Honor put together. NUMBER 6: Twisted Metal Almost similar to what Mortal Kombat did i ...

Bravo to President Barack Obama for signing the current US Defense Budget! Given how arrogant and obnoxious Red China has been (Obviously they haven't read either Tom Clancy's The Bear & SSN and the Dragon or Dale Brown's Skymasters where they were thoroughly whipped like the dogs they are. I hope the current DOD Budget will emphasize US Special Operations (ie The Rangers, Delta Force, the SEALs and Green Berets), build up the US Air Force's Stealth Fighters and Bombers and greenlight the construction of new Gerald R. Ford class Aircraft Carriers and Wasp Class Amphibious Carriers and San Antonio class vessels. I hope a new USS Enterprise will be part of the US Navy very soon.
She's a cool one and the snow keeps coming, falling lightly. Night before last i heard the snow ploughs outside on the street at 2:30 A.M but when i went out yesterday morning there was no change; where is Foster Young when you need him? I can see him coming yet over the hill in Bothwell as we walked to South Lake school(Bothwell university my father would say when the big wigs asked him where he went to school) with the big wing down shoving snow up on to the very large snow banks which cushioned each side of the road; seemed like the banks almost reached the telephone lines back in the day. Shoveled more snow this evening and built a little cat house from card-board for the balcony. The cats seemed less impressed than me. At least Itzy went inside though. Did 2.5 miles on the tread-mill too; it's easier now, i'm making progress. Read some Tom Clancy during. Gee he knows a lot of stuff him. I don't much listen to new music, only now and then just for something fresh, but yesterday my ear caught a lyric i ...

The Dark Knight Rises' Tom Hardy was announced last month as the star of the film, and will play the special-ops agent Sam Fisher. This marks the second Ubisoft adaption for New Regency; they also have Assassin's Creed in the works, which will star and be co-produced by X-Men: First Class actor Michael Fassbender (through his production company). It is expected that both Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell will be distributed by Fox, since New Regency has a prior relationship with the studio.
New Regency and Ubisoft have announced that they will be working together on the upcoming big screen adaptation of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, which has Tom Hardy (TDKR) attached to star. Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Three of my favorite writers have made it onto The Hollywood Reporter's 25 Most Powerful Authors list. Charlaine Harris, who pens the Sookie Stackhouuse series (which the HBO series True Blood is based on), comes in at while J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) is in at Stephen King (author of.well, there are too many to even name) comes in at King has been someone I have been a fan of since childhood and his book "On Writing" is a must read for anyone wanting to write creatively. Other writers who made the list were Nicholas Spark (coming in at Tom Clancy (at # 12), and John Grisham (at Sex and the City and Pretty Little Liars gurus, Candace Bushnell and Sara Shepard, also made the list (21 and 25, respectively). And, Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy author, E.L. James made the list at a shocking It just goes to show that writing fan fiction might not always be a bad thing. Cyber Monday is okay in my books. Four Wii games -$20.00 Three 3DS games -$30.00 Even though I only REALLY wanted for Wii was Kirby's epic yarn, getting it new at gamestop would have been 30 dollars (used would be 10) but some of the other games seemed interesting. Where I really liked it was the 3DS. Each game being basically 10 dollars, again using gamestop as a baseline, new it would have been 20, used 18. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell would have been 13-20, and Deer drive legends would have costed about 10 either way. Normally I would have only gotten like say Kirby's epic yarn for the Wii, and maybe Harvest moon for the 3DS, but when you can get 4 Wii games for the price of the one game I wanted (even if the other three are kinda "off the wall" games, I could have gotten various rock band or guitar hero games, but I never got into those and don't even have the "guitar" controller.) and the 3DS games may not have been QUITE as "good of a deal" but I play hand helds more than console because it allows me ...
