The discussion that started this analysis was more about the reasons why I dislike the character of Lando Calrissian than what the comment turned out to be. But since were all Star Wars fans I thought that you all might enjoy this analysis as well: There are three main reasons why the rebel alliance won the battle of Endor: 1 Han's smuggling abilities: If you think about it, the Endor mission was a perfect fit for Han Solo. He'd always excelled at smuggling both people and product past the authorities. This fact was a part of the character from the beginning. In this particular case the job that needed to be done was to smuggle a strike team beyond the shield on to the moon. This was Han's specialty, and it's totally understandable why the alliance chose him to complete this task. Once the strike team was in place, it was inevitable that the shield would be taken down. 2 The absence of the Emperor: Even if you haven't read (or don't consider them Canon) the Timothy Zahn books, you can still clearly see fr ...

Finished reading Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy for the first time. Great series. What Star Wars book do I start next?
What's y our favorite Star Wars novel? Mine are either Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn or Jedi Acadmy trilogy by Kevin Anderson
Having just finished Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, I know I wouldn't be the first to say I have a brand new respect for all the Star Wars diehards out there. A shame that this whole Episode VII thing didn't pop up in the 90's when the actors would've been young enough to bring these books to life, would've made for three excellent films I'm sure. Anyway, I'd be disappointed if Mara Jade doesn't at least make an appearance in some way. This concludes the nerdiest *** status you'll read all day.

So when I get back to work and folks ask "So how was GMX?" Here is what I am going to get to tell them - Thursday I signed my first Hotel contract and then had a great night with friends and Ashley Elaine. Friday I talked Hockey with Rob Paulson, and taught my parents a bit about what I do. Hung out with the Marbel Hornets, thanked Timothy Zahn for amazing words Saturday I met the Mayor of Nashville and had a brief talk about strategy. Enjoyed the Speaker Series and learning alot about Abu Dabi. I was at some point on the news a couple times. Watched Hodor spin the night away, the best Geek Slam we have ever had, and watched at least 1500 people had a blast celebrating who they really were. Sunday I met a woman from London who wants us to come to London and do a show. Convinced average business men that even financial discussions could be geeky. We broke an attendance record at right over 2300 attendees, helped out The Evolve Project with a few bucks, thanked an amazing group of people not as many times a ...

Star Wars Episode VII is an upcoming movie from Lucasfilm scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Pictures in 2015. It is to be the first Star Wars film produced under Disney's ownership of Lucasfilm. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will serve as executive producer of the film, and George Lucas will serve as creative consultant. As part of the Lucasfilm purchase, Disney received an "extensive story treatment" by Lucas for Episode VII. Neither Lucas nor Disney revealed any details of the plot at the film's announcement. It has been confirmed by both companies that Episode VII will be an original story and not directly based on the various novels, graphic novels, or other materials in the Star Wars Expanded Universe that take place during the post-Return of the Jedi time period. This includes, most notably, Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, the first installment in Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, which was originally considered by fans to be Episode VII. In a video interview that was ...

The "unofficial canon" for 7, 8, and 9 is the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. They need to do that.
Timothy Zahn talked to me about Mara Jade, Soontir Fel, Thrawn and Bink from his upcoming novel SCOUNDRELS
Mondays in early December mean final exams are looming. I was feeling a little bummed about those, then I remembered that in less than a month Timothy Zahn's SCOUNDRELS will be here, and all was right with the world. So, if work/school is getting you down hold on to that for solace. This week's question: The EU has greatly expanded the different types of Force powers the we see Jedi/Sith using, beyond the set of abilities that most people know (choke, lightning, force push, mind trick, etc.) So what's your favorite use of a Force power in one of the novels? Is there a Force power you would like to invent? Have a great week everyone. (Darth Internous)

This year we are pleased to announce that with the addition of the paranormal dept. we will have the pleasure of having the Queen of the Ghost Box, Jenny Stewart and the one and only Joe Chin from Ghost hunters International. "Luck is merely an illusion, trusted by the ignorant and chased by the foolish." Timothy Zahn (B.S. & M.S. in Physics, author of Star Wars’ Thrawn Trilogy)
The first smart move by Disney was acquiring Lucasfilm. We all know that. The second smart move, however, would be deciding to make Episodes VII, VIII, & IX using Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy", probably the best Star Wars trilogy I've yet read. DO IT, DISNEY!
Also, any and all sequels should be penned by Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole. I'd take the Thrawn Trilogy as new films.
Any of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books. I also love the Rama novels by Arthur C Clarke and Gentry Lee.

Star Wars Poll If fans get to decide the plot as Disney makes Star Wars Episodes 7,8 and 9, what should it be? Defend your position. 1) Original Episodes 7, 8 and 9 by George Lucas 2) Thrawn Trilogy, by Timothy Zahn 3) Jedi Academy Trilogy, by Kevin J. Anderson 4) Write-in nomination
Score! I picked up Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy at the bargain bookstore.
A source from LucasFilm has told E Online that the story for Star Wars: Episode VII will be completely original. This will come as quite a surprise to die-hard fans that had assumed Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy," would be the template for the next trilogy. UPDATE!
Disney you better be calling Timothy Zahn right now to start outlining these next movies.
LOL!!! That's awesome!!! 😃 Probably Jim Butcher, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, and Timothy Zahn. What about you??
Thrawn Trilogy author Timothy Zahn shares his thoughts on the new trilogy.
With Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII, and IX finally coming and Timothy Zahn talking about EU stuff, I went and bought the Darth Plagueus book.
Wow. Okay. Lots going on... So this is more of a `blog-post' about the Disney/Lucas buyout... Time to geek-out! I suppose, first and foremost, I `tentatively' endorse this move. I love George and all, but for many years now I've said that I firmly believe the Star Wars franchise would be better off in the hands of someone else. And I like that Disney seems to have taken their collective heads out of their *** in recent years. In the past, they've shown that they're capable of decimating even the best of fences, but I'll be damned if they can't mend them just as well. (Pixar... Jim Henson... Tim Burton...) Or at least be willing to throw obscene amounts of money at them and allow them to do their thing... Okay, so the next trilogy... I've always considered Timothy Zahn's original trilogy of novels to be the defacto Episodes 7, 8 & 9, and it was always my hope that George would've done that in lieu of the prequels. They're just that good. In fact, I recently started re-reading them again. It doesn't sound . ...
If you do ANYTHING to alter the story line of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, I swear, you will alienate more fans than you'd gain.
The Next 'Star Wars' Trilogy: A New Hope? When George Lucas announced that he was selling his company to Disney, it was (to paraphrase ol' Obi-Wan) as if millions of nerds suddenly cried out in terror. But now that the dust is off and we've all had time to absorb the bombshell news, disciples of the Force are probably wondering what's next. Yes, there will be movies. But what will they be about? We did a roundup of some of the more interesting reporting and rumors floating around. As we all now know, there will be at least three new films: episodes VII, VIII, and IX. But what those films will cover is open to a lot of speculation. We can safely assume that the films will be original stories and not adaptations of "Star Wars" novels, comics, or games. This is kind of a bummer. The Admiral Thrawn book trilogy by Timothy Zahn is highly regarded and would make a compelling series of films. However, according to E! Online, the new films will be based on original treatments written by George Lucas. The Wrap spo ...
"Star Wars episode 7-9 will be an original story - NOT Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, as many have suggested or even demanded, and likely...
I know we are all sick to death of the Star Wars Disney buyout. Much like the Marvel purchase, I am in favor for it. (BTW Disney paid more for Marvel). For all those that are belly aching, stop it for these reasons. 1) Have you ever been on the Star Tours in Disneyland? Disney and Star Wars have coexisted already for over 20 years, get over it. 2) George Lucas can not longer mess with Star Wars. This is great. He was poisoning it, or do I need to point out the plot holes between the two trilogies? 3) The possibility of two new trilogies?!?! What? I know it is a rumor, but it seems like they want to flood the market with movies.why are you against this? 4) The possibility of seeing the Mara Jade or even the whole Thrawn Trilogy in theaters! Timothy Zahn did a great job respecting the original Trilogy while adding his own spin. Imagine the positive possibilities people!
a fans take on new Star Wars movies. We know that, whatever the plot of Episode 7, George Lucas won't have a heavy hand in the day-to-day creation of it. He's apparently written the treatments for the films, but he won't produce or direct—an excellent opportunity for another visionary to jettison Jar Jar Binks out of an airlock permanently. As for the plot, Star Wars superfans have a theory on what they'll be seeing next. But I have a surprise for them: They're wrong. If you're a fan, you're definitely gonna want to read on. First of all, you should know that there is an official canon concerning the Star Wars universe. Those stories cover the years after rebel victory (i.e., after Return of the Jedi). It's written in a series of books called the Thrawn Trilogy, by author Timothy Zahn. Die-hard Star Wars fans know the trilogy well, and they say that a big-screen adaptation of the first book, Heir to the Empire, would make the most logical Episode 7. "Of all the speculation out there about the content of ...
Star Wars 7 the Movie. Britton Tang and I were hoping that maybe the new movies might visit the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn but rumors are that the screenplays will be original and separate from all the books. Crossing fingers for a quality storyline.
The best thing that Disney can do with the Star Wars sequels is the Thrawn Trilogy, written by Timothy Zahn. If they take their time with the movies and pull it off right, we could end up with some amazing new movies. The worst thing they could do is a full-length Jar-Jar Binks movie.
it won't be Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy.
Star Wars Rant: George Lucas / Disney == FAIL! Just read an article stating, correctly, that it would make sense to have 7,8,9 be Timothy Zahn's trilogy, as it is the only book series Lucas ever accepted into Star Wars canon, and was awesome. But no, it is not to be. In fact, this 'new story' Lucas has concocted will probably contradict the entire expanded universe (games, books, etc). If you are going to keep screwing things up just let it die...
Reasons I think Lucas handing off Star Wars could be a good thing: 1) Irvin Kershner directing Empire Strikes Back, 2) Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy, 3) Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars series 4) The current Clone Wars series 5) The Dark Horse comics (Quinlan Vos!) In other words, the very first movie aside, Star Wars has excelled when Lucas let someone else take a crack at it. Now it all comes down to Disney. If they call in true artists who love the source material, it can be better than it's ever been. (*cough* Dark Horse team!) If they milk it as a cash cow, then it'll go to crap. Only time will tell.
So there has been an awful lot of nerd consternation over the Disney purchase Lucasfilm and the idea of a new Star Wars film for 2015. While I understand the concern of my fellow nerds do to the existence of the prequels lets all take a breath and think about it. First off I would say that we all love "The Avengers" which was made by which studio, that's right Disney and secondly George Lucas has no involvement with the movie. These are good things. Disney, and this pains me greatly to say anything about them, is a well run company that likes to make money (Eruo Disney aside) and they will assign an excellent film maker, someone who grew up with the original trilogy and who loves those films as much as we do. Someone born in the early 70s that will ignore the prequels. I am going to make my first prediction Ben Affleck he has the right back ground and is the hot director right now, but Ben you aren't playing Han Solo. As for story I would suggest that Timothy Zahn's Trawn trilogy would make excellent sour ...
A LucasFilm insider says Disney has created new material for this upcoming trilogy, and it won't be based on Timothy Zahn's popular novels.
So Disney buys Lucasarts and wants to do a Star Wars Movie, now they have two plots they are Deciding between, the Thrawn Trilogy about the Empiral Remenant being ran by a Genius Chiss (Blue skin red glowy eyed Alien) who is actually beating the Republic Back, or Dark Empire, which is just the Thrawn Trilogy minus Thrawn and a Crazy Jedi Clone. Disney if your smart you will go with Timothy Zahn's number one selling Star Wars Series, the Thrawn Trilogy!
My dream? Star Wars 7 Heir to the Empire of Timothy Zahn, scripted by Drew Karpyshyn, directed by Andrew Stanton. Kaboom.
Ok, so Disney purchased Lucasfilms and all its subsidiaries AND announced Star Wars Episode VII! Ok, I just nerded myself there... The big question I have is what story do you go with for the next trilogy? I would LOVE for them to do Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy" but they may get too much backlash by having to recast all the main characters; such as Luke, Leia, Han, and so on. I guess they could do a generation jump with the kids but it would still be tough for continuity... Ok, discuss please.
OMG!!! They have announced Star Wars Ep. 7 in 2015. Lucas also said he is handing the franchise over to Disney (Dont know if thats a good or bad thing). I do hope 7 follows the Thrawn Trilogy written by Timothy Zahn. That would rock!
If Kevin J Anderson or Timothy Zahn aren't involved in the next screenplay then all hope is lost.
For anyone thinking "It's not so bad, we will get to see Mara Jade" think again. Why Would they pay royalties to Timothy Zahn if they don't need to?
Doubt they will do Timothy Zahn's ones. Those were approved as Ep 7-9 by LucasFilms... Rumors is young Jedi Knights... hm

On other news, my brilliant author wife had to practically twist my arm (actually she said: "there's your computer. Sit. Write." But, she got me to start writing my own novel. It is turning out to be a hard, military Science Fiction story about Max Robichaux, a 24th Century Cajun who is suddenly made Captain of the troubled U.S.S. Cumberland. The effect I am aiming for is something between Tom Clancy, Timothy Zahn, and Patrick O'Brian's Aubry/Maturin novels in Space. It is slow going, because I write five or six pages, then edit them down to about two pages, and then go on. Kathy read the first draft of the first twelve pages or so and said "keep writing--I know crap and this isn't crap." Well, she's sold forty or fifty thousand books, so I think I'll listen to her." I really don't know if it is any good, but I'm enjoying it so I think I'll keep going,at least for a while.
