Sri Lanka seamers rout Pakistan to seal series win Although there was little on paper to separate the two sides, it seemed during the first two ODIs that Sri Lanka were the better team for the long haul - less likely to make silly mistakes, and less likely to fold under pressure. And so it proved in the decider, as Pakistan crumbled to their ninth-lowest ODI total in a match that never threatened to become a genuine contest. Sri Lanka strolled to their target in 18.2 overs, and Tillakaratne Dilshan reached his 38th ODI fifty with the winning four. Pakistan struck three times. They dismissed Kumar Sangakkara cheaply for the third time in a row, and the third umpire may have let Dilshan off early in his innings, but there was no way Sri Lanka were not winning this one. For the first time in the series, Pakistan began a match in their comfort zone. Having had to chase two big targets, they won the toss and batted. This is what they like to do. It was the 31st toss Misbah-ul-Haq had won, and the 21st time he ...
Sri Lanka v South Africa, 2nd ODI, Pallekele Unchanged Sri Lanka choose to bat The Report by Andrew Fidel Fernando July 9, 2014 Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bat in the second ODI in Pallekele on a surface that appeared to be suited to run-making. That the Pallekele pitch has sometimes been livelier in the evening may also have swayed Mathews' decision. Mathews had suggested Thisara Perera could come into the side if the surface looked particularly seam-friendly, but Sri Lanka chose to keep Ashan Priyanjan in an unchanged XI. South Africa also made no changes to their winning XI from Sunday. A victory at Pallekele would give them their first-ever ODI series victory in the country, and only their fourth win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Low cloud shrouded the hills around Pallekele Stadium, but rain is expected to hold off for the duration of the match. England Cricket v Sri Lanka Cricket 2nd ODI at Chester-le-Street. Sri Lanka 256-8 beat England 99 all out by 157 runs Sri Lanka have won the second ODI by 157 runs to level the series at 1-1 with three matches to play. Next stop is Old Trafford Cricket Ground on Wednesday 28th May for a day-nighter. England were skittled out for just 99 run as Sri Lanka levelled the five-match one-day international series at 1-1 with a 157-run win at Chester-le-Street. Tillakaratne Dilshan made 88 as Sri Lanka posted a respectable 256-8. England were reduced to 29-4 as seamer Nuwan Kulasekara (3-15) wreaked havoc while Sachithra Senanayake took 3-13. Eoin Morgan top scored with 40 as England were all out in the 27th over, their heaviest ever home ODI defeat in terms of runs and fifth worst anywhere. As dispiriting as England's innings was there were vivid shades of the disastrous Australia tour last winter, Sri Lanka were rewarded for some disciplined batting. Sri Lanka v West Indies Key Facts: These teams have met five times in T20Is. Sri Lanka has won four matches to West Indies’ one, which came in the most recent meeting – the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final. In fact all five of these clashes have come in ICC World Twenty20 tournaments – three group matches, a semi-final and a final. Mahela Jayawardena and Tillakaratne Dilshan have both hit two half centuries in those five matches – they average 67.3 and 62.3 respectively against West Indies. Four of the five best T20I economy rates amongst players from Test-playing nations since the last ICC World Twenty20 are held by players likely to feature in this match - Sachithra Senanayake, Samuel Badree, Krishmar Santokie and Sunil Narine. Rangana Herath’s figures of 5-3 from 3.3 overs against New Zealand means the three best T20I bowling figures are held by Sri Lankans. West Indies’ 84-run win against Pakistan was its largest run-margin victory in T20Is. In the Super 10 stage Sri Lanka inflicted two of th ...

A victory For the Students Protest:- Shame For Srilankan Players Sri Lankan players seem to be the biggest losers in this auction with seven players going unsold. There were no takers for Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, veteran batsman Mahela Jayawardene ,Tillakaratne Dilshan, Angelo Mathews, Ajanta Mendis and Kusal Perera. Thanks to the effort taken by the students in all 7 protests against Srilankan players And special thanks to the friends who sent the mail petition to the sponsors of the IPL Franchises. it seems one singala player has been already put on hold in the squad, Our next protest should me strong enough to remove him completely from the squad and make the Sri Lankan Boycott completely possible.
Dilscoop From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Dilscoop is a cricket batting stroke developed by Sri Lankan right-handed batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan during the ICC World Twenty20 held during June 2009 in England. The basis of the stroke is to go on one knee to a good length or slightly short of length delivery off a fast or medium paced bowler and 'scoop' the ball over the head of the wicket keeper. The ball travels straight towards the boundary behind the wicket keeper. According to Dilshan he started practising this stroke against a bowling machine during his tenure for Delhi Daredevils at the 2009 Indian Premier League (IPL) held in South Africa between April/May 2009.[ There has been much discussion whether the Dilscoop is identical to the Marillier or Paddle scoop. However according to former Australian captain Ian Chappell who was commentating during the above ICC World Twenty20, he had never seen any batsman play the ball straight over the wicket keeper's head as Dilshan does,[3] hence its ori ...
After beating India by two wickets on Friday, Sri Lanka skipper said Mahendra Singh Dhoni's absence hurt India but pointed out that they too missed Tillakaratne Dilshan and Nuwan Kulasekara.
HUMOUR NEWS: Please note this is a humour article – work of pure fiction By Humjee Break-Sheikh Of course, a day at Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions is not about numbers. One can only wonder what must have been going through the minds of the various people present in the room and the cricketers following it. Vernon Philander, for example, went wicket-less after the sides simply refused to buy him. Tillakaratne Dilshan, on the other hand, scored a duck. Of course, this is not an article based on probably psychology of the cricketers involved. This is just a recollection of the random thoughts that might have gone through the mind of the viewers throughout the day. Sharjah:Pakistan survived a late order scare from Sri Lanka to pull off an exciting 11-run win in the first one-day international in Sharjah on Wednesday, to go 1-0 up in the five-match series. Pakistan's innings was built around a brilliant 122 from Mohammad Hafeez which saw them post an impressive total of 322-5 in their 50 overs but were made to work hard for their win, finally bowling Sri Lanka out in 49.4 overs. Besides Hafeez's 122, Sohaib Maqsood (73) and debutant opener Sharjeel Khan (61) were the main contributors on a flat pitch. Sri Lanka had all but lost the match at 221-7 but Sachithra Senanayake (42) and Seekkuge Prasanna (42) gave Pakistan a scare during their 87-run partnership for the eighth wicket -- a record for Pakistan-Sri Lanka one-day internationals. Sri Lanka needed 27 off the last two overs but both the batsmen were out in quick succession to hand Pakistan a deserved win. Sri Lanka got off to a solid start with Tillakaratne Dilshan (30) and Kusal Perera (64) batting quite comforta ...

Sachin Tendulkar was the last remaining player who made his Test debut in the 1980s. You're right about Shivnarine Chanderpaul- he made his Test debut in March 1994, and reached 150 caps in Mumbai just as Tendulkar reached 200. Only six other men who have played Tests this year made their debuts in the 1990s, and one of those (Ray Price) has also announced his retirement. The others are Jacques Kallis (Test debut in 1995-96), Mahela Jayawardene and Harbhajan Singh (both 1997-98), and Rangana Herath and Tillakaratne Dilshan (both 1999-2000).

Latham, Ronchi power incredible NZ chase Zealand 203 for 6 (Latham 86, Ronchi 49) beat Sri Lanka 138 for 1 (Sangakkara 71*, Dilshan 55*) by four wickets (D/L method) Before this match, 21-year-old Tom Latham had boasted that even this depleted New Zealand side backed themselves to chase tall scores against Sri Lanka. Striking a scintillating career-best 86 off 68 deliveries, Latham proved that threat was not just bluster, as he carried the visitors most of the distance of their 8.6-an-over, rain-shortened chase before an ebullient Nathan McCullum pulled the match from the brink again, plundering the required 20 off the final over to propel New Zealand beyond the target of 198 off the last ball. Along the way, Luke Ronchi hit his best score for New Zealand, making 49 in the belligerent 93-run partnership with Latham that resurrected the innings, after four wickets had fallen early. The match had earlier been interrupted for five-and-a-half hours by rain and lightning, as Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne D ...

Toss New Zealand chose to bowl v Sri Lanka Live scorecard and ball-by-ball details New Zealand's stand-in captain Kyle Mills chose to bowl in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, on a pitch with a layer of grass that promised movement for the seam bowlers. The threat of rain, which would put the team bowling second at a disadvantage - as they contend with a wet ball - may have influenced Mills' decision as well. Angelo Mathews, however, said he was happy to bat first, and expected the pitch to wear later in the evening. Tom Latham was slated to open alongside Anton Devcich for New Zealand, with Luke Ronchi also in the team, as wicketkeeper. Fast bowlers Adam Milne and Mitchell McClenaghan both made the XI, as did Corey Anderson, but James Neesham missed out due to a groin injury. He was expected to recover in time for Tuesday's second ODI. Neil Broome was also not considered for this match, as he has not yet arrived in the country. Sri Lanka hold their nerve to reach semi-final (Submitted by Sports Journalist) A VICTORIOUS Sri Lanka will play in Cardiff on Thursday. A humbled Australia will start pondering the Ashes, and the state of disrepair their cricket has fallen into. Led by Mahela Jayawardene’s silken unbeaten 84, Sri Lanka stuttered into a Champions Trophy semi-final against India by defeating a collective whose captain Michael Clarke watched disconsolately from The Oval balcony. Their slim chances of qualifying long since expired, Australia offered a last gasp via Clint McKay and Xavier Doherty, who added 41 for the final wicket. They were only separated by a blinding return catch from Tillakaratne Dilshan, whose exultant celebrations underlined the anxiety that had crept into a team who looked comfortable winners for most of the journey. Once Jayawardene had lifted Sri Lanka to 253 for 8 after an uncertain beginning, passing 11,000 ODI runs on the way, Australia's chances of qualifying became largely theoretical. India i ...

Both sides have played each other plenty of times in the past two years, and the results are dead even. Each has won eight games with one no result in 17 matches since June 2011. Therefore, not much is likely to come as a surprise for either side. Lasith Malinga was expensive against England, but Sri Lanka will continue to rely on him for the key strikes. Malinga wasn’t as lethal as expected in the Indian Premier League this time, though still among the best bowlers in the tournament, but he nearly pulled off a heist single-handedly against New Zealand in the opening match. What will please the Sri Lankans equally was the form shown by the batsmen around Sangakkara. Tillakaratne Dilshan contributed at the top, Mahela Jayawardena was fluent, and Nuwan Kulasekara, promoted to No. 5 in a surprise move, smashed an unbeaten 38-ball 58. Kulasekara had been brought in for Thisara Perera for his greater bowling pedigree, and he showed that he had done only half his job after an economical performance with the b ...
Sangakkara's stunning hundred keeps Sri Lanka alive (Submitted by Sports Journalist) Kumar Sangakkara has never got his hands on a major ICC one-day trophy. Neither have the other outstanding players of this Sri Lanka era - Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga or Tillakaratne Dilshan. But they will believe there is still time after Sangakkara's magnificent unbeaten 134 from 135 balls pulled off an improbable run chase against England by seven wickets with 17 balls to spare at The Oval. Only India had ever pulled off such a daunting target on this ground and, if Sri Lanka had failed to hit such heights, they would have been eliminated. But, as the clouds cleared, the pitch was encouraging and Sangakkara, driven by the vision that his redoubtable career need not go unrewarded, summoned a shrewd and inspired response. England now face New Zealand in Cardiff in their final match on Sunday and Sri Lanka are pitted against Australia at The Oval the following day with Group A in the balance. ODI batting England st ...
New Zealand bowled and fielded brilliantly, went to lunch with not a care and then came back to find the bottom falling out of its innings in its ICC Champions Trophy match against Sri Lanka at Cardiff on Sunday (June 9). Needing just 139 to win, it squeaked home with just a wicket to spare. The climax was farcical, with Tillakaratne Dilshan bowling a wide down the leg side even as Mitchell McClenaghan and Tim Southee hared back and forth with two needed for the win. Sri Lanka had the outstanding batting and bowling performers in the match – Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga – but still finished on the losing side after a batting display that was marked by poor shot selection. There was little hint of the drama to come when New Zealand went to lunch at 26 for 1, having taken just 37.5 overs to bowl Sri Lanka out. Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson made steady progress after lunch before an extraordinary error of judgment gave Sri Lanka a route back into the game. Malinga bowled a slow loopy full tos ...
ICC Champions Trophy Preview: Buoyant New Zealand gear up for Sri Lanka's spin trial. Cardiff: New Zealand are preparing to face a spin barrage from Sri Lanka when the two sides meet in the Champions Trophy in Cardiff on Sunday. New Zealand go into the tournament after a morale-boosting 2-1 one-day series win over hosts England, but Brendon McCullum's side know Sri Lanka will throw up new challenges. "We could conceivably be facing 30-35 overs of spin," Black Caps coach Mike Hesson said ahead of the group A game. "We need to be proactive against it." Sri Lanka's spin attack includes four capable tweakers in Sachitra Senanayake, Jeevan Mendis, Rangana Herath and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Unorthodox slow bowler Ajantha Mendis was not picked for the tournament. With sling-arm fast bowler Lasith Malinga and steady seamer Nuwan Kulasekara also in the ranks, Sri Lanka have their options covered for what are expected to be good batting conditions in Cardiff. India and South Africa played a high-scoring match at the ...
2013 Champions Trophy: Meet the teams Sri Lanka: The men from the island nation, who were joint winners in 2002, are playing under a new captain- Angelo Mathews. In Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara- the men who preceded Mathews, it can be said that the Lankans have the ‘proper’ batsmen to handle the heat in England. Lasith Malinga is pretty much the most dangerous bowler in world cricket; and Nuwan Kulasekara’s nagging line and length should come in handy. They kick off their campaign against New Zealand on June 9. Squad: Angelo Mathews (captain), Dinesh Chandimal, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara, Shaminda Eranga, Sachithra Senanayake, Chanaka Welegedara.

Harbhajan Singh's 400 Test wickets Five of his best On the occasion of Harbhajan Singh's 400th Test wicket, a look back at five of his most memorable spells in the format 13 for 196 v Australia, Kolkata, 2001 Harbhajan Singh chose one of the most gripping Test matches of all-time to announce himself to the world. Matthew Hayden's robust 97 seemed set to give world-champions Australia full control on the first afternoon when Harbhajan intervened with his wicket, and followed it up with Mark Waugh's. He then sliced through the middle order, dismissing the out of form Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne off successive balls - the first Test hat-trick by an Indian bowler. Despite his seven-wicket haul, India fell behind quickly and were forced to follow-on after a batting collapse. VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid then produced an epic 376-run stand, including a close-to chanceless vigil through the entire fourth day, to set Australia 384 to win in a little over two sessions. The tea-time score of 161 fo ...
Match Details: Dhaka Gladiators 172 for 9 (Anamul 58, Rubel 4-44) beat Chittagong Kings 129 (Mahmudullah 44, Thomas 3-19, Mosharraf 3-26) by 43 runs A mix of the unheralded, the young and a Twenty20 stalwart in Mosharraf Hossain, Anamul Haque and Alfonso Thomas helped Dhaka Gladiators to a second consecutive BPL title with a 43-run win over Chittagong Kings. When Enamul Haque jnr was run out by Darren Stevens in the 17th over, it ended a campaign in which they were favourites from start to finish. During the Kings' chase of 173, Mosharraf took three crucial wickets in the middle to trigger a collapse, and for this he was the Man of the Match. The left-arm spinner broke the promising 25-run second-wicket partnership between Nurul Hasan and Jason Roy. Nurul holed out to long-off before Saqlain Sajib took the wicket of Ravi Bopara, a batsman not in the best of form. Mosharraf then took the key wicket of Ryan ten Doeschate, caught at point by Tillakaratne Dilshan for just 2. A ball later, he bowled Roy to lea ...

All-rounder Angelo Mathews has been appointed Sri Lanka’s new Test and one-day captain for next month’s home series against Bangladesh, selectors announced on Thursday. The 25-year-old replaced prolific batsman Mahela Jayawardene, who stepped down after leading on a recent tour of Australia where Sri Lanka lost the Test series 3-0 and drew a one-day series 2-2. Dinesh Chandimal, named Mathews’s deputy in Tests and one-day internationals, will lead the side in T20 matches. Mathews and Chandimal will lead the teams until the end of January 2014, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement. Bangladesh will play two Tests, three one-dayers and a one-off T20 match. The Tests will be played in Galle (March 8-12) and Colombo (March 16-20), while Hambantota (March 23 and 25) and Pallekele (March 28) will host the limited overs games. Mathews, with 1,668 runs in 31 Tests, has also scored 1,784 runs and taken 54 wickets in 90 one-day internationals. Jayawardene, with more than 10,000 runs both in Tests an ...

Sri Lanka level one-day series againstAustralia unbeaten maiden one-day century from Lahiru Thirimanne drove Sri Lankato a series-levelling eight-wicket victoryagainst Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday. The batsman hit a boundary for the winning runs and remained unbeaten on 102 for his first ODI ton while opener Tillakaratne Dilshan plundered 51. The tourists, who suffered a 107-run defeat in Melbourne on Friday in the first of the five-match series, reached the target of 171 with 59 balls to spare. Australia had Upal Tharanga caught behind off Clint McKay in the third ball of Sri Lanka's innings with no runs on the board. The hosts mixed up spin with speed but failed to make another breakthrough until Glen Maxwell caught Dilshan off Ben Cutting with the score already on 137. Debutant Kushal Perera, who held four catches behind the wickets, clobbered 14 quick runs with Thirimanne in cruise control. century from debutant Phil Hughes and sensational fielding helped Australia to a 107-run win against Sri Lanka in Friday's first one-day international at the MCG. FINAL SCORECARD Hughes - who hit 112 from 129 deliveries - became the first Aussie to notch a hundred in their maiden one-day appearance as his country posted a huge score of 5-305, aided by terrific contributions from George Bailey (89 off 79 balls) and David Hussey (60 not out off 34). Despite losing two early wickets, Sri Lanka were in the game at 2-111 after 25 overs with Tillakaratne Dilshan (51) and Dinesh Chandimal (73) looking comfortable at the crease. But a period of madness that saw Australia complete three run-outs - two of which were direct hits - in less than five overs effectively ended the contest as Dilshan, Angelo Mathews (12) and Lahiru Thirimanne (zero) were sent packing. And pacemen Clint McKay (4-33 off eight overs) and Mitchell Johnson (2-43 off nine) mopped up the tail as Sri Lanka were eventually dismissed for 198 in fro ...

Half-centuries from Dimuth Karunaratne and Mahela Jayawardene gave Sri Lanka hope, not just of recovery but even putting Australia under pressure in the fourth innings, but much of it was crushed by a middle-order implosion in good conditions for batting. I read this article from a sports writer & thought of sharing with my friends as most of my friends are cricket fans lol An administration with conflicts of interests, selfish players and opportunistic player agents have all got together to take the hapless Sri Lankan fans on a ride. by Rex Clementine Cricket is more than just a sport for Sri Lankans. In India and Pakistan you find passionate fans, but most of them aren’t knowledgeable. In England and Australia you find knowledgeable fans, but perhaps they lack passion. Where you find fans with both passion and knowledge is in places like Sri Lanka and the West Indies. During Sri Lanka’s current tour of Australia, the fans at home have been taken for a ride. Men, women and children wake up at 4:00am to get a glimpse of action down under, but what they have been presented with is dropped catches, missed stumpings, a run out in the first over, horrendous batting and thoughtless cricket. Siddle leads the way in an all-round disciplined display December 17, 2012 IF AUSTRALIA emerge from Hobart with their first Test win of the summer it will be reward for doing the little things - rotating the strike with the bat, stifling scoring with the ball - better than Sri Lanka. Peter Siddle's effort with the ball on day three, in claiming 5-54, was even more influential than Michael Hussey's unbeaten century had been a day earlier. Despite Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan (147) and Angelo Mathews (75) combining for a partnership of 161, the second-best made against Australia at Blundstone Arena, the home team still emerged at the halfway point of the match with a 114-run lead. Jayawardene to step down as captain after tour Mahela Jayawardene: "We need to move on to a younger leader." Mahela Jayawardene has confirmed he will step down from the captaincy at the end of Sri Lanka's tour of Australia - a move he had hinted at for some months now. Jayawardene's second stint at the helm began in January, when he was called in to replace Tillakaratne Dilshan. The fifth ODI on January 23 in Hobart will be his final match as captain. Vice-captain Angelo Mathews is the most likely successor, and Jayawardene said his decision to step down was largely borne from a desire to assist Mathews with leadership in Mathews' first phase as captain. Jayawardene will continue to be available for selection in all forms of cricket. "I took over the captaincy for 12 months and that ends after this series, so I don't want to continue to captain Sri Lanka after this tour. This will be my last," Jayawardene said on the eve of the first Test. "I was going to wait until the end of the series but I thought I m ...

Teams news Tillakaratne Dilshan has not recovered from his back injury, which means left-hand batsman Dimuth Karunaratne has been brought into the squad, and will get a Test debut. Sri Lanka's major selection conundrum is who their second seam bowler will be. Sri Lanka reached the World Twenty20 final after beating Pakistan by 16 runs in the first semi-final in Colombo on Thursday. Chasing 140 to win, Pakistan managed 123-7 in 20 overs. Experienced spinner Rangana Herath wrecked the 2009 winners with three vital wickets, including skipper Mohammad Hafeez (42). Angelo Mathews took two wickets. Before Thursday, Sri Lanka had lost all four T20 internationals they have played at the R Premadasa Stadium. Pakistan earlier restricted the free-scoring Sri Lankans to 139 for four in 20 overs. Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene vindicated his decision to bat first after he and Tillakaratne Dilshan put on a rapid 63 runs in 10.2 overs. Sri Lanka beat New Zealand in a one over eliminator after the 40-over Super Eights contest was sensationally tied. New Zealand paceman Tim Southee restricted Sri Lanka to 13-1 but Lasith Malinga managed better, finishing the New Zealand innings five short of his team’s total. Tillakaratne Dilshan (76) had put Sri Lanka on course for a successful run chase before New Zealand pulled back through some accurate bowling and fielding. To lose tight matches is always disappointing But from the situation New Zealand fought back very hard and never gave up.
Sri Lanka's captain Mahela Jayawardene extolled Lasith Malinga as the finest death bowler in world cricket after he bowled an imperturbable Super Over that finally killed off a persistent New Zealand challenge in their Super Eights tie in Pallakele. Sri Lanka, emotionally if not in actuality, felt as though they had to win the match twice. New Zealand had looked out of the contest, but they dragged it into the Super Over with the help off a disputable run-out off the last ball of the regular match, when Ross Taylor was held to have deflected the ball off what replays suggested was his hand but the fielder himself thought must have been his knee. When Sri Lanka scrambled 13 from their Super Over, failing to find the boundary but helped by three wides from Tim Southee, it fell to Malinga to protect their advantage. It was a close-run thing - had Tillakaratne Dilshan not held a skier at long-off, New Zealand would have needed two to win off the final ball, but Malinga produced the last-ball yorker to leave h ...
Tillakaratne Dilshan, who had scored 76 off 53 in regulation time, set himself under the ball at long-off, turning side ways to make sure he knew where the boundary cushions were - they were six inches from his toenails - took the catch after the ball had passed his body, and had almost entered the air space past the boundary. Had he missed that, this Martin Guptill hit off Lasith Malinga would have left them needing two off the last ball of the Super Over. The catch sealed it. So small were the margins in a freak match. Malinga, though, finally came good in the Super Over, bowling full and straight, defending 13 successfully, thus trumping a super effort from Tim Southee whose two last overs, 18th and 20th in regulation time, turned what looked like an easy chase into a tie Congrats SL Hope you keep wiining the rest of the games as well SZ

The opening match of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.MENDIS SPECIALS GIVE Sri Lanka EMPHATIC VICTORY What one Mendis began, another finished as Sri Lanka handed Zimbabwe a thumping 82-run loss at the Mahinda Rajapaka International Cricket Stadium. Brendan Taylor was quite categorical about his team’s chances a day before the tournament opener. “If we bat, bowl and field to our potential, we’ll give ourselves half a chance of beating Sri Lanka,” he said, and those words turned out to be prophetic in the worst possible way. After putting Sri Lanka in, Zimbabwe bowled the wrong areas, had a complete shocker on the field and never quite recovered. If Jeevan Mendis injected Sri Lanka’s batting with verve, it was Ajantha Mendis, playing his first match in eight months after recovering from a back injury, who ensured that Zimbabwe performed no batting miracles. We need to plan against Kohli: Dilshan August 13, 2012 13:34 GMT Virat Kohli's dramatic rise as a batsman has left the Sri Lankan team in search of a new strategy for the T20 World Cup, according to opener Tillakaratne Dilshan. "We are not meeting them in the first round. If we have to meet India in the Super Eights or the semifinals then we have to plan against him," said Dilshan. Dilshan, who is currently captaining the Basnahira Cricket Dundee (BCD) in the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL), rated Kohli as one of the most exciting prospects currently in world cricket. "He is batting really well not just the last month but since the 2011 World Cup. He is scoring heavily and enjoying a great form. He is one of the best young players I have ever seen. For me, if he continues to bat like this then it's not easy to get him out." "We planned for him in the recently played series but it was not easy to get him out. After the highway at the SSC last week, the moisture in the Pallekele pitch - increased by the rain before the Test - and a hint of grass gave Sri Lanka's attack early encouragement that lasted into the final session, justifying the home team's decision to bowl first. The new ball was a powerful weapon, employed expertly by Thisara Perera and Nuwan Kulasekara, who also stood out for their stamina and helped their team have the better of most of the first day. But it was used even more menacingly by Pakistan's fast bowlers, whose extra pace and difficult angles produced wickets and plenty of nervous moments for the batsmen. Pakistan's 226 may be below-par, but an incisive spell in the final hour led by Junaid Khan revived their spirits and boosted hopes of a strong comeback. Sri Lanka are without their centurion from the first two Tests, Tillakaratne Dilshan, on leave to be with his unwell ...
Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene won the toss on Sunday and elected to bowl in the third and final test against Pakistan at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.Opening batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan was left out to be with his ill children and was replaced by Dinesh Chandimal. Sri Lanka also brought in fast bowlers Dilhara Fernando and Thisara Perera in place ofSuraj Ran
Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara made a return to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test batting rankings after scoring a big century against Pakistan in the drawn Test at the SSC. He had lost the top spot to West Indies' Shivnarine Chanderpaul in March 2012, after failures in the Galle Test against England. At the start of the SSC Test, Sangakkara trailed Chanderpaul by six rating points, but earned 42 points for his first innings effort of 192. In the previous Test in Galle, Sangakkara had scored 199 runs in the first innings to earn 71 rating points. He is eight points short of achieving the 900 mark - a figure achieved by only 25 batsmen, including Sangakkara, in the history of the game. Sangakkara achieved a career-best 938 rating points during the Kandy Test against England in 2007, which is the sixth best performance in the all-time rankings. Apart from Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali also scored big hundreds and have moved up in the Test rankings.

By the time Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mayank Agarwal were dismissed, they needed 39 off 18. Steyn, who had two overs remaining, had conceded only seven in his first two. What followed dropped several jaws. De Villiers nimbly used the width and depth of his crease to adapt to the world's fastest, and possibly best, bowler's line and lengths. He moved back to short balls and forward to slower ones, pulling between deep midwicket and long-on. He then moved back and towards leg to alter the length of a yorker and smite it over extra cover, before shuffling outside off to scoop over short fine leg. De Villiers took 23 runs off Steyn's third over and after that Anand Rajan stood no chance. Royal Challengers won with seven balls to spare.
Today Gayle batted as though he was determined to finish in ten overs, pounding 24 in Manpreet Gony's first over, the second of the innings. In the third, Gayle had to face Steyn, bowling at serious pace. After ducking under a short ball aimed at his head, Gayle tried to make room by moving towards leg and bottom edged another fast short ball on to his stumps. Steyn then had Tillakaratne Dilshan lbw in his next over, and Royal Challengers were 40 for 2 when Saurabh Tiwary retired hurt after straining a hamstring in the sixth. An overthrow that cost six runs was the only major blip on an unusually good day in the field for Chargers. Duminy's leaping catch at short cover to get rid of AB de Villiers was an example of their improvement. The tension was palpable in the Royal Challengers camp as de Villiers walked back, because their tail began at No.7. Tiwary returned in the tenth over after Mishra's double-strike. He and Kohli kept Royal Challengers in the hunt during their brisk stand of 46, which came at 7 ...
Dale Steyn produced a fiery pace bowling spell of three for just eight runs as Deccan Chargers knocked Royal Challengers Bangalore out of the Indian Premier League with a nine-run victory in a tense match here today. Steyn claimed the wickets of dangerous Chris Gayle and his opening partner Tillakaratne Dilshan and Zaheer Khan as RCB failed to chase down the target of 133 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal. The victory by the Chargers also meant that defending champions Chennai Super Kings go through the play-offs stage, along with table-toppers Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians. RCB collected 17 points from 16 matches, the same as that of Chennai but the latter made it to the play-offs stage on better net run rate. Delhi now play Kolkata in the first qualifier in Pune on May 22 while Chennai take on Mumbai in the eliminator in Bangalore on May 23. The Chargers, who ended the tournament at eighth out of nine teams with nine pints from 16 matches, thus spoiled RCB's ...

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Tillakaratne Dilshan has said the team is yet to decide on who will captain against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. A change in team combination meant the full-time captain, Daniel Vettori, did not play their last match, and they were led by Virat Kohli to a five-wicket win against Deccan Chargers. "We will take a call on the captain tomorrow [Wednesday],” Dilshan told PTI. “It will be either Vettori or Kohli. We have not taken a decision yet.”

RCB smashed Deccan Chargers with AB De Villers and Tillakaratne Dilshan
KUDOS MR...AB DEVILLIERS...Last year it was Chris Gayle for Royal Challengers Bangalore, this year it's AB de Villiers. Another fiery, match-winning hand from him transformed the game in a matter of two overs, revived Royal Challengers' campaign, left Deccan Chargers shell-shocked and entertained the home crowd. Chargers clearly had the upper hand when Tillakaratne Dilshan fell after a half-century, their relatively inexperienced bowling attack punching above its weight. But de Villiers brought them down to earth and reserved special treatment for his South Africa team-mate Dale Steyn in a game-changing 18th over.
Most international runs (in all formats) by an individual in a calendar year Ricky Ponting (2833 in 2005) Rahul Dravid (2626 in 1999), Kumar Sangakkara (2609 in 2006), Sourav Ganguly (2580 in 1999), Tillakaratne Dilshan (2568 in 2009), and Sachin Tendulkar (2541 in 1998)
Chris Gayle got off the plane and smacked a ton in his first game last year against his former team. He will once again hold the key to RCB’s fortunes, the pressure from Virat Kohli’s poor patch mitigated by the blazing form of AB de Villiers and the dependency of Tillakaratne Dilshan. Mayank Agarwal has provided useful cameos but the expectations for him, Saurabh Tiwary and Kohli will remain more substantial innings.

IPL 5: de Villiers scripts opening win for RCBCricketnext Staff, Cricketnext.com | 07-Apr 07:24 AMBangalore: A Chris Gayle-less Royal Challengers Bangalore overcame two tricky situations, the first with the bat and then with the ball, to open their IPL 5 campaign with a 20-run win over Delhi Daredevils at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. RCB were struggling for momentum during their innings, having lost six wickets for 103 runs before AB de Villiers, who struck an unbeaten 42-ball 64, and Vinay Kumar (18) put on 54 in 5.3 overs. Their bowlers, despite the loss of Virender Sehwag for a first-ball 0, were under a bit of pressure as Naman Ojha and Aaron Finch threatened to wage a counter-attack but in a crafty Muttiah Muralitharan the home team had the desired wicket-taker. Murali, in his first IPL match for RCB, took 3 for 25 as Delhi were kept to 137 for 7, falling to their first defeat at this venue. In the absence of Gayle (injured) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (national duty), Bangalore opened with Cheteshwar Pujar ...
