Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. “Lighthouses are more useful than churches.” -Benjamin Franklin “This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!” - John Adams "Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man" - Thomas Jefferson. "When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That's my religion. -Abe Lincoln “The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” George Washington
Desperately seeking Icons A nation's vision can be inferred from the leaders it constantly places on its pedestal. For the Americans, it is their Founding Fathers and the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Abe Lincoln. For the British, it is the Bard and a monarchy on whose empire the sun never set. For the Chinese it is probably still Chairman Mao while Emperor Hirohito works for Japan. A nation's oft reinforced icons, it appears, define the course of its destiny. Also, what a nation constantly projects ---whether right or wrong – deeply affects how others perceive it. An example might throw light on this. Abe Lincoln's sunken, bearded face has been imprinted in the pages of history and our memories as the image of the all time libertarian humanitarian who gave a new lease of life to an entire race of people. The USA was formed in late 1700s. The Civil War leading to the abolition of slavery attributed to Abe Lincoln happened in the 1860s. Yet, almost a hundred years later, in 1955, a young woman named Rosa ...
Student: My dad's just a lawyer. Me: "Just" a lawyer? Student: Yep. Me: Oh, you mean like John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Abe Lincoln? Yeah, they started out as "just" lawyers, too.
I copied these from an email I just received: Abe Lincoln may have freed all men, but Sam Colt made them equal," a post-Civil War saying. "I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it."--Clint Eastwood "Peace is that brief glorious moment In history when everybody stands around reloading " Thomas Jefferson "In my many years, I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame; two is a law firm; and three or more is a congress.: John Adams
My favorite President is Teddy Roosevelt. My most admired President is Thomas Jefferson, with Abe Lincoln a close second.
Many True American Leaders have lived here and led our nation the way it was built for from George Washington,Thomas Jefferson to Abe Lincoln and they knew by doing the Declaration of Independance and forming the Admindants that our nation would be controlled by Goverment instead of BY The PEOPLE and True Leaders as they were in by doing so they was doing tresion to our country in order to Protect our nation and our people by Big Government having completed control over us...It saddens me that we have went away from those values and that We The People have a So called Commander in Chief and Staff walking in our Monument that was built by our nation and so many good men that lived in that Home and is turning it to rubble and Spitting on our Great Founding fathers and our great nation how could we have voted a man that is clearly not for Americans from not believing in god, taking our rights to bare arms to turning our american Dollar to just paper he has forced our nation to where its soon to be owned by ot ...

In honor of George Washington, I chopped some wood. In honor of Abe Lincoln, I built a floor. In honor of Bill Clinton, I played a rock show. In honor of Warren G. Harding, I rocked it *hard*. In honor of Thomas Jefferson, I will now drink wine. In honor of Howard Taft, I will eat lots of cheese. In honor of George W. Bush, I will then possibly rest in a bath tub and paint a portrait of myself. Happy Presidents Day.
Is taxes breaking everyone up? This is the 4th "Im Single now" that Ive heard today. Im stayin with "All" my men... Ben Franklin, George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, Madison, and William Mckinley. Call me whatever... They are good to me!
The humanity of US Presidents by Jaime R Vergara It is Presidents’ Day. Top ten on a survey list: 1) Abe Lincoln abolished slavery, 2) FDR got working America back on its heels, 3) George Washington created a citizen president, 4) Thomas Jefferson doubled US size with Louisiana purchase, 5) common man Andrew Jackson proved humble beginnings hinders no one, 6) trust buster TR v. corrupt business, also committed deeply to conservation, 7) Woodrow Wilson led America out of isolation, 8) Harry Truman made hard decisions including the use of the A-bomb, 9) James K. Polk acquired CA, NM, OR, as manifest destiny, and 10) Ike Eisenhower presided over America’s post-WWII economic prosperity. In the topography of consciousness, we delineate three sides of the same reality. One is the social process perspective that engages economic support of human existence, the political organization of decision-making, the cultural significance and meaning of every human endeavor, and to balance the process that impacts an . ...

If I had the chance to sit down and interview people from the past, my list would be: God, Jesus Christ, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Abe Lincoln, my Grandpa William H. Smith, Eleanor Roosevelt, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and a few others. It seems like our time on Earth is just a blip, but some are remembered for long after because of that they did during their time on this planet. It would be neat to ask questions of these people of what they expected of the future, and their comment on what the future turned out to be in reality. Time travel reporting.cool!
I really doubt that Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, or Abe Lincoln, had any intention or delussions of a slave becoming president.
Day 9: I'm thankful for our forefathers. Could you imagine what our country would be like, without the amazing lives of Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, Henry Ford, Elvis Presley, "Babe" Ruth, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Susan B. Anthony, Bill Gates, Franklin Roosevelt, The Wright brothers, and SO many more! They all have played a part in shaping our country and making it the BEST place on earth, to live!
Here is a general question to the "I hate all politicians and politics" gang. Why do you hate Abe Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, and John F Kennedy? I am dying to know why you hate these politicians. Seriously. If you would please pipe in.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and first Chief Justice John Jay: founding fathers of the USA and names that are synonymous with the spirit of our country. Over 200 years ago they shook off the chains of tyranny from Great Britain by citing over 27 biblical violations and this wrote the Declaration of Independence. These men founded our country on the gospel of Jesus Christ. We as Americans have eliminated God from the equation of American life this eliminating the reason this nation first began. Of the 55 men who formed the constitution, 52 were active members of their church. "We've staked our future on the ability to follow the Ten Commandments" ~ James Madison "You can't have national morality apart from religious principle" ~ George Washington "The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of the government of the next" ~ Abe Lincoln. When you eliminate the word of God from the classroom and politics you eliminate the nation that word protects. Everyda ...
When is the next Abe Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, JFK, Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, or George Washington going to step up to the plate and actually lead our country forward? I'm sick of these politicians. This isn't a republican vs democratic posting. Right now I feel like I'm choosing between Dumb and Dumber. Right now I don't see anyone of that caliber in congress or anywhere else. We need someone who is willing to make the tough choices whether it jeopardizes them getting re-elected or not, whether it takes their life or not (i.e. Abe Lincoln). We have too many people voting for whichever candidate that can give them the most. People are selfish. Set aside political party and vote for people that stand up for the unborn child, stand up for right, stand up for sensible government. I'm tired of hearing about choice, the aborted child didn't have a choice. I'm also tired of the mainstream media that tells me what I have to think and if I don't agree, I must be stupid. They are more interested in ...
A percentage of debate watchers, including some who agree with his principles, reacted negatively to Joe Biden's fervent performance. It was definitely old school, reflective of a time when political dialogue was often likened to a boxing match. However, it was also a display of passion, and I for one welcomed it. I like the idea of a country with leaders who keep cool heads when making decisions, but throw their heart and soul into defending them. I like seeing candidates driven by issues, not simply ambition to win. What happens in our world affects my life in deep and meaningful ways; it comforts me when those who wish to lead are affected as well. John Kennedy was a man of passion; so were his brothers, Bobby and Ted. Franklin D. Roosevelt could be explosive, like his cousin Theodore before him, and like Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson before them. These men were also statesmen and intellectuals. Joe Biden may be a little rougher around the edges, but isn't that quality exactly what endeared Ge ...

What do former presidents Teddy Roosevelt, George Washington, Abe Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson have in common?
"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated, and scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, For then it costs nothing to be a patriot." -- Mark Twain "The Patriot's primary duty is to defend his Country from its government." -Bumper sticker seen in Overland Park, Ks 11-14-10 “We find comfort among those who agree with us -growth among those who don't" - Frank A. Clark Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their Constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it. - Abe Lincoln "Error of Opinion may be tolerated where Reason is left free to combat it." - ( Thomas Jefferson) The richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.-Anon ..if my people called by my name will humble themselves, turn from wicked ways, seek my face & pray.. then I will hear .. & heal their land" - II Chron 7:14
What would Thomas Jefferson say ? What would John Adams say ? What would Abe Lincoln say ? What would Dwight Eisenhower say ? What would Ronald Reagan say ? What would all these great leaders and true Americans say about the new voter suppression laws ? What would they say in response to millions of Americans being denied the precious and hard fought for right to vote ? What do you say ??
Don't group Abe Lincoln republicans with Ronald Reagan republicans, that's like comparing Thomas Jefferson to Bill Clinton.
"I never thought attorney's made good Presidents"- Clint Eastwood...(Talking about Obama) Everyone proceeds to cheer at the convention.. Sigh... I wonder what Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, and James Madison would think about that. They were all Lawyers!
I see the year 2012 as the proverbial fork in the road. We're either going to turn this thing around and get back on the path to prosperity, or we're going to continue down the path of out of control inflation, debt, and despair. You have to decide whether you want to be part of turning this around, or if you are comfy on your couch watching us spiral toward the drain. A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend who told me "I'm not planning to do any volunteering this cycle." Of course everyone is free to make that decision. But ask yourself, "What if George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan or Scott Walker had said, 'I think I'm going to sit this one out.'" Where would we be? Would we even have a chance at turning this around? Would you have that comfy couch (or Bar Stool) you've snuggled your butt into? It's time to decide what path you want to take. The fork in the road is right here in front of you.
President Obama dreams three dreams. In the first dream he meets George Washington and asks him what he can do to be a better president. Washington says love your country. He falls back asleep and sees Thomas Jefferson. He asks Jefferson the same question and he replies love your country and follow the constitution. He falls asleep again and sees honest Abe and asks him what can I do to be a better president. Abe Lincoln responds "Go see a play". Ha ha
Bush Sr. was like a cross btw Thomas Jefferson and Abe Lincoln compared to todays GOP
You gotta love Jesse Waters interviews...he easily manages to find every moron that lives in New York..somehow, they all stand up to be counted...Waters hit Jones Beach this past weekend and questioned the sun worshipers about Independence Days' meaning..Name one of the founding fathers.answer .." Abe Lincoln"...Who was Samuel Adams..."uh, I know it's a great beer"...One person actually knew the year The Declaration of Independence was signed...another knew Thomas Jefferson signed it...but nothing more about his role. The best line of the day was...when asked to finish this line..." Give me Liberty or give me."an over zealous *** said..."Truth , Justice, and the American Way".In a quick few seconds this putz inserted the Caped Crusader.otherwise know as, Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter.as a major player in American History. Look up in the sky...it's a bird...it's a plane.it's STUPIDMAN.
The younger among us that were taught the "New Learning" crap may not get this. President Obama wakes up one night, and sees George Washington's ghost. He asks George "how can I help this country?".George says be honest with people like I was. Obama goes to sleep again, wakes up and this time sees Thomas Jefferson.he asks Jefferson how he can help this country.Jefferson says "love the Constitution like I did." He goes to sleep again, and waking up again, he sees Abe Lincoln.he asks Lincoln how he can help the country...Abe replies "Go see a play"
Abe Lincoln, Samuel Adams, George Washington,Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, John Hancock, that's all I can remember right now this is for you
Tired of self-serving politicians of both parties? Want to bring back into the White House presidents of the caliber of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abe Lincoln? Here’s how we can do it: Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln were expert surveyors. Let’s form a 3d party, the Surveyors Party, pledged to nominate a certified surveyor. Don’t say no until we try it.
the first 2 copies of the decleration of independence were written on cannabis or marijuana paper. George Washington, Ben Franklin, Abe Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson all Grew Marijuana and ingested it too ;-)
(Fleetwood Mac would be George Washington, The Eagles would be Thomas Jefferson, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would be Abe Lincoln)
Heroes, heroines, and villains - Lead, Follow, Or Get The *** Out Of The Way We can’t all be kings, queens, presidents, scientists or titans of industry. Most of humanity, like yours truly, fall somewhere in between, or as some may choose to put it – through the cracks. While I’m quite sure each of us can create our own lists, the following represent a Cliff Note version of my lists of heroes, heroines – and villains: Heroes and Heroines: God. ‘nuff said. I’m not trying to convert atheists here, they already have enough issues to deal with. The rest of my abbreviated list begins with Jesus – whether you consider him to be the Son of God, or just another man, he represented love and peace. He never married, never killed anyone, and he sure didn’t die rich. Akhenaten - an ancient Egyptian ruler, too smart for his time. Buddha, Gandhi, Moses, King David, Sir William Wallace, King Robert Bruce, George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Paul Jones, Stephen Decatur, Abe Lincoln, ...
I can't help but find it funny when religious folks use quotes by NON-religious folks to push their agenda...An agenda the person being quoted would NEVER have agreed with. FYI, folks...Abe Lincoln, George Washington, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson...NOT christians! Just sayin'...LOL
On our search to join the ranks of George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, we find the Abe Lincoln.
