I find it truly despicable how Government will play on our fear for the safety of children in order to either take away our civil liberties or push us to war. 2 recent examples I can think of are the British Home Secretary in a recent speech for justifying Government access to social media accounts and Benjamin Netanyahu's justification of Israel's assault on Gaza. Theresa May played on our fears by saying that "The world is a dangerous place and the United Kingdom needs the capabilities to defend its interests and protect its citizens." She went on to say that the National Crime Agency has had to drop at least 20 cases over the last six months because of missing communications data. May said at least 13 of those cases were “threat-to-life” scenarios involving children. Benjamin Netanyahu claimed (and was since found to be lying) that Hamas was building tunnels out of Gaza aimed at kindergartens in nearby kibbutzes. "The tunnels, it’s game-changing. We can’t do anything if the terrorists will come ...
British Home Secretary to introduce anti-Jihadist powers to tackle 'deadly extremist ideology'. Theresa May believes the struggle will 'last for decades' reported on Friday 22 August 2014 Home Secretary Theresa May is planning to introduce new anti-Jihadist powers as she warns that the “struggle against a deadly extremist ideology” is likely to last for decades. She is considering extending banning orders to groups with extreme ideology but which are not engaged in terrorist activities, and she wants new powers to target extremists who try to radicalise young men and women. The Home Secretary revealed that she has prevented “more than 150 people", including “hate preachers”, from entering the UK because their behaviour is considered unacceptable. “We must confront and defeat the extremist ideology that sanctions and encourages terrorist activity,” she wrote shortly after the murder of journalist James Foley by an apparently British member of Isis. “We are in the middle of a generational st ...
