Nadal's route to the semi-final Rafael Nadal has spent 11 hours and 32 minutes on court negotiating his way to the semi-finals (which is nearly an hour more than Federer). He needed just 41 minutes to see off Bernard Tomic in the first round after the young Australian retired hurt at the end of the first set. The Spaniard then went on to beat qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis, Frenchman Gael Monfils and 16th seed Kei Nishikori in straight sets before coming up against Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals. All the first matches on RLA, Hisense and MCA are through as Serena, Kerber and Pennetta dispatch their opponents in straight sets and get out of the heat in record time. Plus I just found out that they aren't in fact the first players into the Round of 16. That honor belongs to Switzerland's No.2, Stan Wawrinka, when his opponent the young Canadian, Vasek Pospisil, was forced to withdraw due to a back injury that plagued him in his earlier matches. Next up on RLA...Spain's David Ferrer versus the unpredictable Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. Hisense...China's Li Na goes up against Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic. MCA...Men's doubles 1st round...Chris Guccione and Thanasi Kokkinakis(he's not completely gone) of Australia versus the Croat-Brazilian pair and fourth seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo. Another Australian men's player bites the dust as Matthew Ebden exits the Australian Open as he was defeated by Canadian Vesak Pospisil.
