WASHINGTON (AP) - Fabian Barrera found a way to make fast cash in the Texas National Guard, earning roughly $181,000 for claiming to have steered 119 potential recruits to join the military. But the bonuses were ill-gotten because the former captain never actually referred anyone. Barrera's case, which ended last month with a prison sentence of at least three years, is part of what Justice Department lawyers describe as a recurring pattern of corruption that spans a broad cross section of the military. In a period when the nation has spent freely to support wars on multiple fronts, prosecutors have found plentiful targets: defendants who bill for services they do not provide, those who steer lucrative contracts to select business partners and those who use bribes to game a vast military enterprise. Despite numerous cases that have produced long prison sentences, the problems have continued abroad and at home with a frequency that law enforcement officials consider troubling. "The schemes we see really run ...

House was born on March 4, 1814 in Stoke St Gregory, Somerset, England. Huis, possibly, Old Norse name hūs . T.W. House and Company became Texas's largest wholesaler. House prospered selling commodities ranging from hides to syrup and from guns to blacksmithing tools. Ox wagons would wait 12 hours for their goods to be loaded into his store. Out of his store, he built his great private bank. House supplied the army of Confederacy, When the Houston Light Guard marched off to battle in Virginia, it was nicknamed the Kid Glove Gentry because of the kid gloves House had outfitted each soldier with. House Bank in 1907: national bank opened in 1901 and stopped printing money in 1910, which equals a 10 year printing period. Old Bank Notes : Light Guard- Militia is brought under the control of the federal government On May 16, 1916 the Houston Light Guard was mustered into federal service, thus becoming the first Texas National Guard unit mobilized for service on the Mexican border. ok smart people, I want to know who has the authority to secure their own state? Does or Did Governor Rick Perry have the right/authority to use Texas National Guard on the Texas Boarder? I really thought any Governor had the right to use their National Guard as needed am I wrong or right? The boarder problem has been going on for years and years not just the past 8 years since Governor Perry has been running for President. If he as Governor of Texas can use the Texas National Guard as he needs to secure our state than why hasn't he under the Presidency of Bush and Obama? Tell me smart people cause I don't know the answer. Bush and Perry could have secured our boarder a long time ago. I guess Perry really did not see it as a problem then just now with Obama administration and HE thinks it makes him look more BIG TEX NOW. WHO knows the answer to my questions did the Governor of Texas have the authority to use the guard or does that have to come from President?

Happy birthday to the Minuteman Brigade, which turns 97 years old today! On this date in 1917, the Texas National Guard constituted the Texas Supply Train, part of the notional 15th National Guard Infantry Division. This division was not yet established, but was the anticipated designation for Texas. As it turns out, the Texas division went on to be called the 36th Infantry Division months later, following the War Department reserving numbers 1 through 25 for the Regular Army, 26 through 75 for the National Guard, and the 76 and above for the National Army. As the Texas division was not yet mustered, the Texas Supply Train, which included a headquarters and six companies, joined the 42nd Infantry Division for service during World War I as the newly designated 117th Supply Train. So began the long and accomplished career of the unit that would one day become Joint Task Force 136 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade - the "Minuteman Brigade".

Durn it, Will Tarwater got me to thinking. Thanks, Will! About Japanese-American soldiers in World War II: There were three Japanese-American units, all highly decorated: The pioneer unit was the 100th Infantry Battalion, made up of Hawaiian soldiers, who fought in Italy. Combat there was horrific because the rugged Apennine terrain always favored the German defenders and the German commander in Italy, Field Marshal Kesselring, was one of the finest generals of the war. At the famous struggle for St. Benedict’s abbey, Monte Cassino, the 100th got its nickname: “The Purple Heart Battalion.” Meanwhile, in basic training, the Army took strenuous efforts to prevent the Hawaiian and West Coast Japanese-Americans in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team from killing each other. The two groups despised each other at first, but not only did they integrate themselves into a real combat unit, but I think the thumping they gave each other made them even better soldiers, because when the Army turned them loose ...

This postcard dated March 5, 1907 shows the Agriculture, Chemical and Textile Buildings at A&M College. Stamped in red in the lower right corner shows this card was published by H. R. Cavitt. I decided to see who Mr Cavitt was. Howard R Cavitt was a businessman and served as Captain and commanding officer of Company G, 2nd Infantry Regiment known as the Bryan Light Guard/Texas National Guard, from 1902-1904. In 1907 he owned the Post Office Drug Store (later renamed Cavitt's Drug Store), he sold 1/2 interest in the drugstore in 1911 and went on to open the Bryan Motor Car Company. In December of 1913 at the age of 31, his characteristic bravery cost him his life, while trying to save the lives of residents being swept away in a Brazos River flood.

So, Josh had Drill Friday and Saturday...turns out the armory for the brigade he now serves with is only 15 minutes away!! Wow! In the 5 1/2 years he has been in the National Guard, he's always had to drive 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to the armory and then spend the night. Just gotta say that it was nice/weird to have him come walking in on Friday evening when they were done for the day! Didn't realize that it could work like this!! I think I could get used to this! On a different note...to all my SC National Guard people, seems like my baking has officially been welcomed here by the Texas National Guard, so things should be ok!! Made a big batch of stuff for Josh to take, and he came home empty handed at the end of Drill! As it should be!!! ; }
Camp Mabry Texas National Guard in Austin, TX June 12, 2013 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM WBC will picket the Texas National Guard to remind these doomed military mutts that they do not have the power to unseat the Lord Jesus Christ from His throne. No matter how many laws you convince the legislature to pass or how many times you drag us to court, you can never change one word that is written in the Bible. Your continued mistreatment of the Lord's sheep for humbly bringing you the only words of hope and peace will be repaid on the Judgment Day if not sooner! Soldiers continue to come home in body bags because of their disobedience to the Lord's standards. Maybe you can convince the government to pass laws against God's judgments! - This whole "Westboro Babtist church" can rot in *** for all I care. Disgusting. Pathetic.

Last Sunday, I retired from the Texas Army National Guard after 34 years and 2 months. This is a small excerpt from my retirement speech. My military friends might smile at how much trouble I got into 20 years ago. “Most of you are too young to remember, but I hold the record for the highest static line parachute jump in the history of the Texas National Guard, 5000 feet. I was in the in the 143rd Infantry Detachment (Airborne Long Range Surveillance). During Annual Training 1992, I was working all afternoon, Jump Mastering Huey Helicopters. I had more than enough jumps for my Master Parachutist wings but I needed the Jump Mastering duties to submit for my orders. After 8 passes, the pilot who shall remain nameless said “Ray, I heard you’ll get your Master wings today. Do you want to go to 5000?” My response was “COOL!”. The operations order stated we would jump at 1500 feet, but the pilot called range control and got the airspace clearance. I then let my love of military parachuting get i ...

Halliburton’s missing nuclear waste found alongside Texas highway | The Raw Story Texans can breathe easier: the radioactive waste Halliburton fracking surveyors lost last month has finally been found. The United Arab Emirates-based oil services company told reporters this weekend that an oilfield worker found the rod of americium-241/beryllium alongside a highway near Pecos, Texas. Halliburton reported it missing on September 11, and members of the Texas National Guard were ultimately called up to aid their search. Halliburton said it even deployed vehicles fitted with radiation detection equipment, but found nothing on three sweeps of the area. Americium-241/beryllium is used for a variety of industrial and medical purposes, and in this case was needed for equipment used to identify potential sites for natural gas drilling. It is a “Category 3” radioactive substance, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). “Category 3 sources, if not safely managed or securely protected, cou ...

Hey so y'all think Texas could NOT stand on her own?? Well here are some REAL Facts for you: Of the 50 states petitioning the government, Texas is the only one that stands a chance. 1) Texas has one-quarter of the nation’s oil reserves. 2)According to State Impact, a NPR reporting project, Texas leads the nation in natural gas production with 23 percent of the nation’s natural gas reserves, which accounts for 14.9 percent ($159.3 billion) of Texas’s gross state product; the state’s gross state product in 2011 was $1.332 trillion. 3) One of the World's largest International Port, the Houston Ship Channel, as well as the Port of Galveston. 4) If Texas were its own country, it would have the thirteenth highest gross domestic product in the world. 5) Texas also has its own army, which includes the Texas State Guard, Texas National Guard, Air Guard and Texas Rangers. So think what you want, but know the facts, Texas can EASILY stand without Obamanation!

WKLY NEWS: (AUSTIN) WKLY has learned that a group of Texans have approached Governor Rick Perry to secure the border from a potential infiltration of immigrants into the Great State of Texas. The group stated their fears that so many residents of other states would be trying to come into the state of Texas that it would make it unsafe for everyone here and urged the Governor call out the Texas National Guard. Governor Perry expressed his concerns over the events occurring within the other states but told them as long as Texas is part of the United States, he cannot close the borders with Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas or New Mexico. The Governor did tell the citizens that he is working with NASA on plans to build a rocket capable of sending some of the bigger opponents to free enterprise on a one way trip to the moon.
My distant grandfather, Isaac Marshall, served as Lieutenant in the American Revolutionary War. It is hard for me to fathom what those days and nights were like. Twice captured and released, he fought on. Captured again, he escaped from the British, signed back up and kept fighting until the job was done. I have had more grandfathers and uncles fight in that and every war since then - not to mention my son's service in the Texas National Guard. I am humbled by their choice and perseverance to fight for freedom and liberty. To all who have served or who are currently standing in the gap for my family - Thank You! This Patriot's gratitude to you is beyond category. Let Freedom Ring!

Roy Goad (he and most of his family are from Temple and Belton) 93 years young, is very proud of the Texas National Guard (36th Infantry) invited me down to his hall, showing me some of his war photos and news clippings, showing me where he received his CIB and was wounded twice after the invasion and moving up thru Italy. . . . I've gotta' go back... happy hour continues ... ! Hooah !!

Somewhere in West Texas is a 7-inch radioactive cylinder that Halliburton would like to find. Anyone who comes across it is advised to keep their distance. The oil field services company lost track of the device, which is used to *** potential sites for hydraulic fracturing, last Tuesday while trying to transport it from Pecos to a well site near Odessa 130 miles away. A special unit of the Texas National Guard has now stepped in to aid Halliburton in a search for the cylinder, according to Bloomberg. "It's not something that produces radiation in an extremely dangerous form," said Chris Van Deusen, a spokesman for the Texas Department of State Health Services. "But it’s best for people to stay back, 20 or 25 feet."
Next Tuesday at 5PM, September 11th, 2012, we will formally dedicate the new playground at Oakcrest Sports Park to Chris Staats. My job gave me the privilege to be a very small part in the development of this project. The plaque reads "Christopher Staats was a native son of Fredericksburg; beloved as a student, sportsman, son, grandson, brother, friend and husband. Following his 1996 graduation from Fredericksburg High School, Chris joined the Texas National Guard. He went on to study the land he loved and received his Bachelor of Science degree in renewable natural resources from Texas A&M in 2002. In 2009, SSG Chris Staats was specially selected to serve on the Texas Agribusiness Development Team 2 in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Chris gave his life for his country on October 16, 2009. He leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, determination, and influential love for life." I will ever remember how much Chirs meant to me. The last time we talked, he was leaning on the counter in my kitch ...
people. 8. We have enough colleges to keep us getting smarter: University of Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Rice, SMU, University of Dallas , University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University of North Texas ), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway. 9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force, and it isn't restricted by a bunch of unions. Here in Texas , it's a Right toWork State and, therefore, it's every man and women for themselves. We just go out and get the job done. And if we don't like the way one company operates, we get a job somewhere else. 10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and insurance industries, etc. 11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, and several military bases. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in
Goodbye, Neil Armstrong! At 39, he walked on the moon and give us inspiration and confidence as a nation; I will always remember that day in 1969 when the Eagle landed.was at Fort Hood with a Rio Grande VAlley Texas National Guard unit that was training in the boonies.they had a Lone Star beer party with band that evening and we kept getting updates on a transistor radio; a SGT gave the announcement of Neil stepping onto the moon and he was given a toast and cheers by the Valley Boys and more Lone Star flowed; from Houston, to the moon, now a resident of heaven; job well done! No political debates about him, just gratitude and respect. A new star shines bright tonight!
Bridge on The River Kwai. I know a little bit about the Bridge on the River Kwai as I was for several years in the American National Guard unit that helped build the railroad along the river with the Dutch, British and Australians as POW’s. Of course that was in 1943 but the unit is still active. The 131st Field Artillery Battalion of the 36th Division is now in Wichita Falls and has a museum at its armory with many of the paintings and drawings of the Dutch prisoners showing the cruelty of the Japanese guards. It also has the apology typed out in English by one of the American prisoners as well as the old type writer it was typed on. I think when the 49th Division of the Texas National Guard was changed back to the 36th they may have moved the museum to Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas. It was in 1943 that thousands of Allied Prisoners of War and Asian laborers worked on the Death Railway under the imperial Japanese army in order to construct part of the 415 km long Burma-Thailand railway. Most of these men ...

I just found this in a DOJ report on the Waco standoff that Chris Green keeps throwing mud at Larry Smith over because he was there, per this official report if you apply Chris Greens position to it then all you DPS guys are also responsible for the deaths of all those cult members. It's an absolute shame Green has shown so much disrespect to the Agents killed in the line of duty. Republicans have a long history of liars for canidates,May 27, 1968: 12 days before his student deferment expires, George W. Bush applies to join the Texas National Guard. Despite a waiting list of 18 months, Bush is signed in the same day. Bush is assigned to a celebrity sons unit, with sons of two other senators (Bentsen and Towers), sons of oil magnates, and 7 sons of Dallas Cowboys players. He was assigned to pilot duty despite a 25% score (lowest possible for duty), and was commissioned to 2nd Lt. despite lack of qualifications or passage through Officer Candidate School. Is trained to fly an F-102, which is being phased out, guaranteed to never be called into duty in Vietnam. April 1972: Military institutes drug tests in routine exams, including urinalysis, questions about drugs and "a close examination of the nasal cavities" (for cocaine). Bush is due for this exam by August 1972. May 1972 to May 1973: Bush leaves NG for Alabama without transfer orders; later requests transfer, which is granted the ...

OP TEN AMERICAN DRAFT AVOIDERS The following is a list of well-known Americans who legally avoided the Vietnam draft using techniques available under the system. 1. Former President Bill Clinton. He used a student deferment, then a commitment to the ROTC at the University of Arkansas, to avoid the draft. After his lottery number on December 1, 1969 came up high (number 311) he backed out of the ROTC commitment. 2. Former President George W. Bush. He was accepted into the Texas National Guard, supposedly due to his family’s influence. At the time, Guard duty was not likely to involve combat service overseas. His apparently less-than-diligent Guard service was scrutinized in the media but a backlash over questionable information forced Dan Rather to leave CBS. 3. Former vice-president (under George H.W. Bush) Dan Quayle. Like George W. Bush, he was able to get into the National Guard. 4. Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. Deferred because of “a bad knee”. 5. Former Senate Majority Leade ...

If you think you know the whole story about Dan Rather and his tussle with his CBS bosses over a report on President George W. Bush's Texas National Guard service, the veteran reporter has a lot to say about it in his new memoir, 'Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News' (Grand Central Publishing).
