Another 90’s comic shop tale. We had a lot of genre 'stars' come to our little store in central Bristol to plug their memoirs/new projects etc. One that we were all really looking forward to was a double bill of Dave Prowse (Darth Vader!!!) and Gunnar Hansen (‘famous’ for playing the mentally impaired redneck cannibal Leatherface in the original 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre'.) We’d been warned that Gunnar Hansen was hard work, but assumed that Dave Prowse would be fine being on his home turf. We were also all very much looking forward to meeting Darth Vader (!!!) cos, you know, star wars. Gunnar Hansen was lovely, the perfect gent. Dave Prowse revealed himself to be the bitterest man in Sci-Fi. Extremely disappointed that his lilting West C’untry tones had been overdubbed by an actor with more vocal gravitas. He was pretty off with all the kids and signed all his signatures “Dave Prowse IS Darth Vader”. We think he stole the gold and silver markers too.
Variety is reporting the death of Marilyn Burns, an actress best remembered as Sally, the most resilient of the terrified road trippers in Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). I was asked if I remembered the "Matterhorn Amusement Park" that was in Williamson County. I have a very Vague memory that it existed, but do not recall ever actually visiting there. While researching this, I came across some interesting information. The Matterhorn was built after a gentlemen saw the real Mountain and decided he wanted one here in Central Texas. He did not make much money on this venture and eventually it all went bankrupt. When the Movie "Chainsaw Massacre 2" was being filmed, some of the scenes were filmed on this run down property. I then discovered that the building that is now home to the bar "The Mean Eyed Cat" located on West 5th street, here in Austin, was also used during the filming. How many of you saw or visited the Matterhorn in Williamson County? Did any of you work on the Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2 production? Any memories?

TRAGIC TRIVIA ™ TRIVIA FACTS During the filming of the dinner scene towards the end of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Gunnar Hansen's character Leatherface was supposed to cut the finger of Marilyn Burns' character with a knife. Gunnar was having trouble working the fake-blood dispenser and was very fatigued by the heat and long hours of doing take after take, so unbeknown to everyone but him and Marilyn, he simply cut her for real, which is the take used in the film. TV trivia for the night...from Night Court" of course...There's a scene where John Larroquette's character, Dan Fielding, is trapped in a motel room with a psychotic woman who acts out movie roles. While watching TV an announcer says, "We'll return to 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre'..." to which Larroquette says, "Seen that already." Larroquette was the voice of the Narrator in the 1974 "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and the 2003 remake.
Psycho - 1960 This was the first American movie to show a toilet flushing. The book which the movie was based off was inspired by the true story of Ed Gein, a serial killer. He also became the idea for the movies Deranged, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs. If you look carefully you see that almost every time a driver gets out of his car he will get out through the passenger side. This is because of the bench seating found in older cars. Plus Hitchcock wanted to continue the shot without moving the camera to follow the actor or having the actor walk between the car and the camera. For more facts about Psycho go to

12. Black Christmas (1974) Directed by: Bob Clark Produced by: Bob Clark Screenplay by: A. Roy Moore Starring: Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, John Saxon What? A Christmas film in October? Yes, the film is called “Black Christmas,” and its director, Bob Clark, actually went on to direct the beloved “A Christmas Story” years later, but the man used to do pure horror, and this was actually one of the first films that had the conventions of the slasher genre; made in Canada, it came out the same year as “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” and it’s one of the better films you might find in the genre. The plot is nothing special. It’s about college girls in a sorority house who get repeated obscene phone calls. One of the girls, Claire Harris (Lyne Griffin), is about to leave for Christmas break, but is killed by a man lurking inside the house forcing a plastic bag over her head, asphyxiating her to death. Her body is placed in the attic, and the man then starts killing all the ...

With the girls currently away in Edinburgh, I took advantage of some rare time on my own last night to have a movie triple bill. Aiming for variety I went with 1974's 'Deranged' (another retelling of the story of Ed Gein, although he's renamed Ezra Cobb here, the serial killer who inspired 'Psycho' and 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' among others), French prison drama 'A Prophet', and Johannes Roberts-written and directed hoodie horror 'F'. 'Deranged' is cheap and cheesy, badly-acted and is hampered by having a narrator who pops up every so often (even in the bedroom of Ezra's mother, whose rotting corpse lies sprawled across the bed behind him) to provide unnecessary chunks of overly melodramatic exposition, but for all that it's an enjoyable and oddly affecting little film with some terrific set-pieces. 'A Prophet' is quite simply one of the best crime/prison dramas I've ever seen. It's two and a half hours long, but so incredibly compelling that the time just flies by. It was close to midnight when I st ...
Like Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Psycho was inspired by the Ed Gein murders, but while Hitch sticks closer to the reality of the crimes than Tobe Hooper’s lone star lunacy, he still doesn’t really tell Ed Gein’s story. The infamous murderer never owned a hotel or brutally butchered a pretty blonde in the shower while dressed as his mum; only Hitchcock could have come up with that. Gein may have been a cross-dressing mummy’s boy, but he didn’t keep his mother’s corpse around the house like Bates. Instead, he went digging up female bodies in graveyards in hope of finding one that resembled his mother. We are not sure which is actually creepier: the movie or reality?
I've never seen Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but its about some family of freaks right? Think they're in this club I'm in right now..

I love the fact that all the goo goo gaa gaa libs want gun control and all the "intelligent" people reason out how guns kill people. I ask this simple question: If you all are so smart and "intelligent" why have you not literally gone to Hollywood and Nintendo, X-Box and all game makers and demanded a stop to the violent games and movies that "idolize" the player who can kill the most people? The top movie is Texas Chain Saw Massacre. You all are a bunch of hypocrites just like any other fool who wants to avoid the hard truth and work it will take to stop the current events from continuing. Guns don't kill people- the power of suggestion causes people to kill people. So, until you do what is necessary.Shut up and talk to the hand.

I'm drawing a blank. Need caffeine, but that's going to involve sending girl child if she wakes up (went a midnight showing of Texas Chain Saw Massacre 3D! O.O ) In the 40s and 50s, there was a large SATB group that did songs with a symphonic orchestra behind them. Great Christmas music. I *thought* it was the "Richard Rodgers Chorale" but that's obviously wrong. It was *somebody's* Chorale, though. They show in things like "Reader's Digest Christmas Albums". Any help would be appreciated. Wracking my caffeine-deprived brain her, and my google-fu is useless, too :-(
