Jayalalithaa will stay in jail for now, bail plea rejected Bangalore: J Jayalalithaa will stay in jail for now. The Karnataka High Court rejected the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's bail plea, saying the Supreme Court had sent out clear message that corruption cases should be put on fast track. The court rejected bail even though the prosecution said it had no objections to conditional bail for Ms Jayalalithaa, who was handed a sentence of four years in prison by the trial court. Jayalalithaa, 66, says the charges against her are politically motivated. She had appealed in the High Court for "immediate bail." Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani is representing her. On last Wednesday, October 1, a vacation bench of the High Court had adjourned hearing of her bail plea to today. Court re-opened today after vacations. Ms Jayalalithaa, who heads the AIADMK which rules Tamil Nadu, was in the middle of her third term as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister when she was convicted in the 18-year-old case. Hi folks, it was a fantastic idea I got from a small temple town of Tamil Nadu called kumbakonam, incidentally it is my birth place. This town's all bus stands are air conditioned. And the municipal corporation pays zero amount for its maintenance! Getting curious. For three consecutive days I visited various bus stands at various timings and found the temperature at 22 degree C, while outside temperature was at 32, which means the A/C was working. People use this bus shelter to protect them from rain and sun. How they did it? They tied up with city union bank and gave them ATM space in the bus shelter and there are three entrances to the bus stand. One to get into the ATM and get out after doing your banking work, mainly withdrawing money, while the other two doors; one for getting into bus shelter and other for entering Into the bus itself. Surprisingly the bus driver stops exactly at the exit door. Amazing. Something to learn for other civic bodies across country.

Text of the D.O. letter addressed by the Honble Chief Minister to the Honble Prime Minister of India on Goods and Services Tax issues - dated 17.8.2014:*“As you may recall, I had handed over a Memorandum to you on 3.6.2014, highlighting some very crucial issues of concern to Tamil Nadu. One of these issues was the impact of the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the fiscal autonomy of States and the huge permanent revenue loss such a taxation system is likely to cause to a manufacturing and net exporting State like Tamil Nadu. I understand that a further revised draft Constitutional Amendment Bill on GST has been circulated to the States by the Government of India on 20.6.2014. I am happy to note that some of the concerns that I had raised have been addressed in the latest draft Bill, with the provisions relating to Declared Goods having been removed and alcoholic liquor for human consumption kept outside GST. The provisions relating to advisory Committees for dispute resolution have also been del ...

Everybody, including *** has human rights. It is the job of the government to protect their rights ~ Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister You know, we the citizens of the country tend to over-simplify and generalize things. 'All BJP people are conservatives' - this one statement alone is one of the biggest examples of lazy thinking. Dr. Harsh Vardhan has spoken in favour of *** rights, something which hardly anybody might have expected him to do. Another data point - Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP general secretary for Tamil Nadu, last week released an LGBT-centred book written by Gopi Shankar in Madurai. I hope the BJP government follows this up with concrete steps and takes steps to read down Section 377 and legitimize love, in whatever form it appears. Kudos to Dr Harsh Vardhan and Ms Srinivasan _/\_

Tamil Nadu: CM Jayalalithaa announced that a new law would be introduced in the ongoing Assembly session to enable entry for dhoti clad men into elite clubs. Expressing strong sentiments against the club’s action for denying entry to a sitting Madras High Court Judge D.Hari Paranthaman. In her suo moto statement today at the Assembly, Ms.Jayalalithaa said that a show cause notice was issued to the club, demanding an explanation. The Chief Minister said, there was no specification on denying entry to dhoti clad men and the club had acted even against its own regulations. Terming it as sartorial despotism, she said that only a new law amounting to cancellation of license could put an end to such practices. It is to be noted that Justice Hari Paranthaman and some senior advocates were denied entry to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association club where they had been invited as guests for release of a book written by former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Rediff live: 13:19 Why do you keep Jaya's photos in your pockets, Modi asks AIADMK MPs: Our mole in Parliament tells us that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was curious when he spotted Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa's photographs peeping out of the pockets of 48 AIADMK MPs. Modi was in the Central Hall of Parliament, on his way to the Rajya Sabha from the Lok Sabha. He asked an AIADMK MP about the pictures and it was Dr V Maitreyan, Leader of the Rajya Sabha, who stepped forward and answered Modi's question. Maitreyan, who answered in Hindi, said the photograph was a token of the reverence and respect with which the MPs held their leader. They said it's their way of keeping 'Amma' close to their hearts. The question is, will BJP MPs now take a page of this book of sycophancy and carry Modi's pictures? Wait and watch.
Reflections on the story of the First Protestant Missionary to India On 9th July – Mission Thanksgiving Day   The just finished World Council of Churches’ Central Committee has envisioned embarking on a ‘pilgrimage for justice & peace’ for their directions for way forward in addressing the signs of our times with more creativity and relevance. At a time when the global Christian world in general and the global Lutheran Communion in particular is gearing up to celebrate the quincentenary (500 years) of the Luther’s Reformation, the ‘pilgrimage of reformation’ in a grand and big way across the world, it comes at a right moment, direction and sets the perspective to celebrate the memory, life, witness and contributions of Bartholomuas Zigenbalg, a young Lutheran pastor who toiled to make the gospel of Jesus Christ relevant to the context of his times, who paved the way for the ‘pilgrimage’ to carry on undeterred.   In our times, when theological articulations and missiological enterprises ...

Caste And Hinduism By Gail Omvedt Economic and Political Quran Weekly M V Nadkarni's recent article "Is Caste System Intrinsic to Hinduism?: Demolishing a Myth", (EPW, November 8, 2003) comes as a follow-up to his earlier article "Ethics and Relevance of Conversions: A Critical Assessment of Religious and Social Dimensions in a Gandhian Perspective" (Januay 18). Both articles show the fundamental stamp of Hindutva ideology, primary of which is shoddy methodology, selective quotation (for example, his references to my work are to a 10-year old book and selectively at that), and illogic. The illogic in the 'Caste System' article begins with a basic, unexamined premise: that there is some entity called 'Hinduism', a religion which has lasted 4,000 years and which comprehends 'classical' as well as 'medieval' and 'modern' forms. This is the most historically unjustified premise, since the term 'Hindu' to refer to a religious belief was never used until the establishment of Muslim regimes (and then only in som ...

When Shri Rama went to Lanka with the monkey army, they crossed the ocean on a bridge of floating rocks. Near this temple, close to the bridge, is Lakshmana Tirtha and Rama Tirtha. Shri Rama is said to have bathed in these two tanks. Kodi Tirtha is supposed to be a spring that Shri Rama created by shooting an arrow into the ground. It is said that at Jata Tirtha, Shri Rama washed His hair to get rid of any sin that He might have incurred in the battle at Lanka. ARREST OF MAGISTRATE :: CONTEMPT OF COURT :: WELL DONE High Court The entire legal fraternity in Tamil Nadu was shocked when the police illegally arrested the Kunnoor Magistrate while he was on duty, upon a false complaint of broken love affair by a police, without any permission from High Court or even without an intimation to the High Court. The Magistrate was arrested like a terrorist and produced before Thiruppoor court by masking his face and pushing on his neck. It is more serious than handcuffing. The police published his custodial photos in all media and they went to the extent of making false propaganda that they arrested the Magistrate with the permission of the High Court. The only motive of the police was to tarnish the image of the Judiciary. The lawyers in Tamil Nadu strongly condemned the arrogant aggression of Police into the Judiciary. The High Court, which was sluggish initially, understood the severity of the police atrocity and arose to the occasion. Suo moto contempt proceedings were ...

The Muduvans are tribespeople who live in the dense evergreen forests of the High Ranges in the southern Western Ghats (Anamalais), along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. One of the most fascinating traditions of the Muduvans are their dormitory system (unmarried boys and girls above the age of ten do not live with their parents, but in separate dormitories) and their weddings (the bride and her women friends hide in the forest and the groom and his party have to find them to initiate the ceremony). Their songs (which include lullabies, love songs and others to mark occasions and festivals) are beautifully musical.

According to the national survey, the statistics on violence against women in India are stark. Nationally, 8% of married women have been subject to sexual violence, such as forced sex, 31% of married women have been physically abused in a way defined as ‘less severe’, such as slapping or punching, while 10% have suffered ‘severe domestic violence’, such as burning or attack with a weapon. The deficits in police reporting are: 28% in Tamil Nadu, 18% in Bihar, 15% each in Odisha and UP, and 14% each in Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. - This analysis confirms insights from studies that reveal that when women try to file first information reports (FIRs) they are often told that it is a private matter and their injuries are dismissed as minor. 83 TN Officers in Big Trouble After SC Order The Supreme Court on Monday upheld the Madras High Court’s order setting aside the selection and appointment of 83 candidates in Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) Group I services because of exam malpractices in 2000-2001. This is the first time these many senior officers in Tamil Nadu run the risk of losing their jobs following the Supreme Court verdict. While the detailed SC order is yet to be out, the 83 officers appear to be running out of legal options. Group I services include the posts of deputy collector, deputy superintendent of police (category-I), commercial tax officer and divisional fire officer. All the selected candidates were given postings in the 2005 batch. A bench of justices Anil Dave and Vikramjit Sen upheld the High Court ruling while hearing appeals of the TNPSC and the candidates. The TNPSC had alleged that 83 of the 91 selected candidates had committed various violations while taking their test, including using sketch pen, ...

Mani-Talk: 'No English. No Hindi. How?' A good Article by Mani Shankar. It looks like these politicians come to senses only while they are not in power. The title is the immortal response of K Kamraj, President of the Indian National Congress in January 1966, when his colleagues begged him to succeed Lal Bahadur Shastri as Prime Minister of India after Shastri died suddenly in Tashkent. It comes to mind now when, in conformity with its hidden, ulterior, Sangh-driven agenda, the Modi government has floated a feeler designed eventually to abolish English and establish Hindi as the sole official language of the Indian government: "No English. Only Hindi. Now"! For the moment, the howl from Tamil Nadu has stalled the effort, but Moditva still has 4 years and eleven months to run. Without the utmost vigilance, we may be left with J&K in the North seceding over the deletion of Article 370 and Tamil Nadu in the far south doing the same over the imposition of Hindi. The minister said that "I will meet with the bankers on Monday to resolve the conflicts between the power sector borrower s and the banking sector and find a way forward to resolve their problems." He said that the problems faced by the bankers have been due to factors beyond the control of investors or companies in these sectors. 1. Anti-Hindi Agitation: 1938-1964 Hindi imposition over Tamil Nadu started even before the British rule ended. During the last decades of British rule over the Indian Subcontinent, the British rulers allowed elected local provincial government under the British Government of India. In 1937, Congress Party formed the Government of Madras Presidency (Province), consisting of most of today's Tamil Nadu, parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This Congress Government under C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) was the first to impose Hindi on Tamil people. This immediately started protests in Tamil Nadu. 1938: January 3 Anti-Hindi demonstrations before Rajaji's house and as it became evident that the government plans to make Hindi a compulsory subject in schools. 1271 people, including 73 women, were arrested. 1938: February 27 The first Anti-Hindi Imposition Conference was held in Kancheepuram (Kanchi, Kanchipuram). Somasundara Bharathiyar, Paventhar Bharathi Dasan and C. N. Annadurai (Arinjar Anna) were among those ...

Two wrongs can't make one right. But why such hypocrisy ? - Haven't muslim gang killed Hindus in our nation? Mujaffarnagar riots started because of killing of 2 Hindu brothers in Kawal. Forgot Kishtwad riots ? Forgot Azad Maidan Riots and attack on Amar Jawan Smarak ? Forgot killing of RSS leaders in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Kerala ? Forgot killings of BJP members in West Bengal ? In most rape cases when the culprits were muslims, Media chose to remain silent or not to disclose their names. We also showed you how Indian Express reports incidents when a Hindu dies and when a Muslim dies in same city within 4 days. Why Media ? Why you hate we Hindus ? Why you dont report our pain ? Why you always try to malign us and show us in bad light ? Why so much love for particular community ? Getting donations from Arab nations ?

Do not hurry. Wait. Gradually use Tamil stooges to fix public opinion about the "inferiority" of DMK and ADMK - "inferiority" of any sort conceivable: "corruption", "inefficiency", "slow growth", etc. Once fixed, appear as the messiahs of cleanliness and efficiency. Get a majority in the Tamil Nadu assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Then, hoist Hindi flag in Chennai without any pomp and gaiety; buy all dissenters out. This is the Aryan plan for Tamil Nadu.
Spirit of democracy is being diluted in the process of over centralization of power. Federalism which should be the unique identity and reason for development and prosperity, of diverse, multilingual country seems derailed in its way of becoming true federation. Hindi lobby has gain momentum suddenly without any need. When people of this country are not facing any problem with multilingual setup, so called politicians of parliament, from when they started getting troubles because of multiple languages ? Bureaucrats have to use Hindi in social networking sites and for communication, state govt.s (except Tamil Nadu) have to use Hindi for correspondence with center, these are the recent orders by central govt. shows its intention to make Hindi as National Language and kill all other national languages. Majority people who gets elected from non-Hindi belt including our Prime Minister after reaching Delhi became Hindiites is very ironical. Politicians are ashamed to take oath in their mother-tongue, ashamed to ...
SUCCESS SANS ETHICS The New Indian Express : 14.June.2012 The flight from Delhi to Chennai was about to take off. After a central minister, on the other side of the aisle, and I had just wished each other, he suddenly pointed to the passenger in the window seat next to mine and asked whether I knew him. He introduced him to me, went into reading his book. The gentleman was a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, known for high integrity. As we began discussing, we could recollect having met long back. Our talk inevitably ended on how the main state actors — politicians and civil servants — had steeply declined in morals. Finally, I asked him a straight question: “Can you point at when exactly did the decline start?” He was equally straight. Political morality, he said, crashed with the “advent” of Indira Gandhi, and business, he added, became buccaneering with the “rise” of Dhirubhai Ambani. That was exactly my view too. A simple comparison of the standards of political morality before and after I ...

Sri Lanka: A bad, sad, mad world By Nilantha Ilangamuwa March 21, 2013 "When a dog howls at the moon, we call it religion. When he barks at strangers, we call it patriotism." -- Edward Abbey Another howler has emerged from Sri Lanka. And, neither laughing nor crying will make any difference. In reply to the recent attack on Buddhist monks in Tamil Nadu, by politically motivated extremists, has proved once again the range of the howls by those holding unquestionable power and enjoying all the privileges in Sri Lanka. Secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has been quoted by a pro-Rajapakse daily in Colombo this morning saying that any Dravidian coming from Tamil Nadu would be taken into custody and punished. Published in Divaina, a newspaper owned by the Minister’s brother, is a statement by Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa that Sri Lanka will not have any dealings with Tamil Nadu hereafter and maximum penalties will be invoked on Tamils coming from Tamil Nadu, in retaliation to Sri Lankans being attacked a ...
HOW THE CONGRESS COMMUNALISED THE HINDUS, AND IS CONTINUING TO DO SO Based upon a note by Sri A. Suryaprakash Although three weeks have gone by since the Congress Party suffered Its biggest drubbing in parliamentary elections, not a single Congress leader is willing to come face to face with the reasons that made the electorate across the country to vote out the party with such decisiveness. The voters' anger against India's oldest party in best gauged by the following facts: The Party did not win a single seat in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Delhi, Seemandhra, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Goa and its vote share in percentage terms crashed to abysmally low levels in states like Uttar Pradesh (7.5), Andhra Pradesh (11.5), West Bengal (9.6), Bihar (8.4), Jharkhand (13.3) and Tamil Nadu (4.3). Going by the extent of damage inflicted by voters, it can be said that the electorate wanted to severely punish this party for a variety of reasons. But, among all those reas ...
Indo-Lanka Fishing dispute : Time for Solutions by Shenali Waduge The game of arresting and releasing fishermen needs to end. The drama has delayed resolving the problem for far too long. If bilateral agreements have been signed they need to be honored after awareness of clauses that gives entitlements and sovereignty to each signing nation. We have 2 agreements, the 1974 and the 1976 Agreements that have demarcated an International Maritime Boundary Line and has given exclusive rights to each nation. These demarcated areas have been violated, if so by whom, under what conditions and what is the eventual impact is what the solution to the problem should be all about. India’s demands to release arrested Indian fishermen cannot hide some hard facts: Indian fishermen violating IMBL even during LTTE reign have been violating the demarcated IMBL for decades. India was aware and allowed Tamil Nadu fishers to transport arms/ammunition/logistics of medicine and food from Tamil Nadu to LTTE during LTTE defacto r ...

Unless India acknowledges that fishermen from Tamil Nadu trespass into Sri Lankan waters, the northern province fisher folk will have no hope “I will have a job only if the Indian trawlers stop coming.” Gently nudging a reluctant crab out of the fishing net with a stone, J. Rajeswari speaks of the acute impact the Indian trawlers have had on Pesalai, one of the biggest fishing villages in Mannar, Sri Lanka. “On the days that the trawlers come our fishermen don’t go to the sea. If they don’t go, I have no job.” Removing the fish and crab entangled in the muddy net seems a tedious task, but on a good day the seashore has many women like her doing that for hours together to make LKR 500 (about Rs.225) a day. Ms. Rajeswari, who heads a family of five, depends on her daily wage to make sure her school-going children have at least one proper meal a day. Increasingly, fishermen are unable to employ her. “How do we employ her unless we have a substantial catch? The situation has become worse in the ...

In Mumbai, children as young as 9 are bought for up to 60,000 rupees, or US$2,000, at auctions. Child prostitution is more common here in India than anywhere else in the world. India has more than 1.3 million children in its sex-trade centers. The children come from relatively poorer areas and are trafficked to relatively richer ones. Karnataka, Andha Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu in India are considered "high supply zones" for women in prostitution. The most likely reason for the Manali tragedy The scary part however is that this can happen in pretty much any state in India. The 126 megawatt (MW) Larji Hydro Electric Project (HEP) on River Beas in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. On the evening of June 8, at least 24 students, including six girls, from the Hyderabad-based VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology were feared washed away by strong currents in the Beas near Thalot village in Mandi district of the state when a large quantity of water was allegedly released from the dam’s reservoir. The students, who were tourists on their way from Shimla to Manali, had stopped near Thalot to walk to the river bank to take pictures with the Beas in the background. However, things went awry when a sudden gush of water from the reservoir washed them away. According to news reports, the Larji HEP gave no warning or announcement before releasing the water. Around 6.15 pm, it released 50 cus ...
Some Myths About Muslims APRIL 12, 2014 by Nivedita Menon In the context of massive propaganda campaigns, the subtle use of stereotypes, and the fact that both the Western and the Indian media share certain basic biases, many people end up believing in a range of myths about the adherents of the world’s second largest religion. This is a quick attempt at exposing those myths. Myth: ‘Muslim’ countries are never secular. Muslims do not tolerate minorities in ‘their’ countries but demand minority rights in other countries. The world’s largest Muslim majority country is Indonesia (total population approximately 25 crores, larger than Pakistan). Indonesia is a secular democracy. Indeed, its population is almost a mirror image of India’s – 88% Muslim, 9% Christian, 3% Hindu, 2% Buddhist, etc. (as compared to India, which has a population that is 80% Hindu, 13.4% Muslim, 2.3% Christian, etc.) Indonesia’s national slogan is “Unity in Diversity.” Yes, Indonesia has occasional riots and bomb b ...

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today welcomed the President of India's address to the joint session of Parliament.
Quickly went through President's address to the joint sitting of the parliament. Reads like typical Narendra Modi campaign speech or document, with "more crop per drop", "sabka saath, sabka vikaas" etc. 2. There is something for everyone in the document. Such lists never impress me. Many many things in this list cannot be achieved by the Central Government. It is the state government that will have to actually deliver. We are yet to see what mechanism Modi is going to evolve to get the state governments to actually achieve something useful. For example, can Modi solve Delhi's power problems? No. There is no working government there. The lieutenant governor of Delhi cannot take decisions of great impact. A government has to be installed there. Until then no solution is possible to the Delhi power crisis. He talks of reforming the public distribution system. How is Modi going to do this? PDS is in the hands of the states. Some states are really advanced (like TN and Chattisgarh) while others are in the dark ...

Art The art of India is inextricably intertwined with the country’s cultural history, religions and philosophies, with the production and patronage of art being linked to social and cultural contexts. The earliest Indian religion to inspire major artistic monuments was Buddhism. Soon after the Buddhists initiated the rock-cut caves, Hindus and Jains started to imitate them at Badami, Aihole, Ellora, Salsette, Elephanta, Aurangabad and Mamallapuram. The Chola period, remarkable for its sculptures and bronzes, is represented by some of the finest figures of Siva in various forms, Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi, Siva saints, etc., created by using the lost wax technique The 2nd century BC Ajanta Caves marked the beginnings of cliff paintings in India. There are known more than 20 locations in India with paintings and traces of former paintings of ancient and early medieval times (up to 8th - 10th century AD such asBagh Caves (Madhya Pradesh), Ellora Caves (Maharashtra) andSittanavasal (Tamil Nadu). Beauty of the beast An article on Rajapalayam as a companion At first sight, the slender body and gait similar to that of a trotting thoroughbred horse may confuse you. You may wonder if what you see is a dog at all. But the Rajapalayam is indeed, a pure bred hound dog from India. Dating back to several centuries and known as 'shikaris', the Rajapalayam along with seven other dog breeds qualify as Indian sight hounds though, ironically, they are rare in Indian households. Imagine this; among all the Indian hound breeds, Gujarat has just two Rajapalayams to its name. Brought from Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu, where its origins are, four-year-old Leo resides in Paldi with owner Bhuman Bhatt, a city-based businessman. "We had a Doberman before Leo. But we set our hearts on getting an Indian hound once our older pet died. We researched on Indian hounds and chose the Rajapalayam," says Bhatt. Great instincts, amazing sight with a loving nature to balance the shikari spirit, these dogs can be wonderful h ...

Mid-day masala After Hindi and Bengali, Telugu becomes the third divisive language in India. After states were formed on linguistic lines, Andhra Pradesh splits again to form two states. A new term Residual Andhra Pradesh is used for non-Telengana part of the united Andhra Pradesh state. Earlier people called in Seemandhra. But Andhra is an unlucky state. It lost Madras to Tamil Nadu and now Hyderabad to Telengana. While one leader who fasted unto death for Madras in vain, another fasted to become the Chief Minister. But now he cannot cherish the divine laddu. Tirupathi goes to Residual Andhra Pradesh. KCR would relive, "Years ago, we made a tryst with destiny" rhetoric of Nehru. And since the Telengana state was born midnight, it can otherwise called midnight's child. Any takers for a new book, Midnight State? And can Andhra Pradesh be named the state of Left-Overs? You know something, Rajya Sabha MPs were decided by lots to determine to which state they belonged to -- Telengana or Seemandhra. Hope no on ...
Among the many exciting and glorious feats of Lord Krishna as a lovely child growing up in Brindavan one of the most chivalrous and stunning acts was his quelling the great deadly serpent Kaalinga. The wonderful dance of the Lord as a small child thumping his tender flower-like feet on the hoods of the serpent has caught the imagination of many poets and devotees since ancient times. This is a unique Thillaana by Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyar, popularly known as Oothukadu Venkata Kavi - a great devotee of Lord Krishna, who lived in early 18th Century in Tamil Nadu. This Thillaana brings to life the much loved child cowherd’s celestial dance on the hoods of the mighty serpent Kaalinga (or Kaaliya). It is believed that the great poet had a vision of the great dance of the Lord when he composed and sang this song. Venkata Kavi vividly brings to the imagination and the inner vision of the listener the various rhythmic steps of the Lord Krishna. He has even set the singing style in such a way that at one pla . ...

President Barack Obama has quietly reversed a policy initiated by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to "get Narendra Modi" — ostensibly for the 2002 Gujarat riots, but in actuality "for taking stands that may be different from that favoured by the US administration" — in the words of a senior analyst in New York. "Hillary Clinton likes to operate through NGOs, which are given funding through indirect channels, and which target individuals and countries seen as less than respectful to her views on foreign and domestic policy in the target countries," a retired US official now based in Atlanta said. He claimed that "rather than US NGOs, (the former) Secretary of State Clinton favoured operating through organisations based in the Netherlands, Denmark and the Scandinavian countries, especially Norway" as these were outside the radar of big power politics. These NGOs were active in the agitation against the Russian nuclear power plant at Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu, with "funding coming mainly from ...
INDIAN BOY WHO INVENTED EMAIL Even the best brains in computer and software engineering may not be able to answer if you ask them who invented email. This was illustrated on Sunday when this writer checked the same with Prof. Achuthsankar S. Nair, Director, State Inter-University Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics, Government of Kerala and Dr. Iyemperumal, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu State Science and Technology Centre. Both of them expressed their helplessness even though both of them handle hundreds of email messages per day. It is a 14-year-old boy from India and that, too, with roots in Tamil Nadu who invented email as well as the five-letter word which has become synonymous with communication. V A Shiva Ayyadurai, hardly out of school in New Jersey, ushered in the paperless era into this world. It was in response to a challenge thrown at him by Dr. Leslie P Michelson, Director, High Performance Computing Lab, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), in Newark, New Jersey, wh ...

Modi Government: Initial Symptoms and Signals As Narendra Modi takes over as Prime Minister, and a BJP Government takes the reins of power, what are the signals his Government is sending out? Even as Modi calls himself the ‘Mazdoor No.1’, the most powerful ‘maaliks’ – corporate biggies Ambani, Adani and Hinduja – were prominent at his swearing-in ceremony. The invitation to foreign guests was essentially more of an exercise to secure international projection for Modi than a concrete foreign policy initiative. The choice of invitees was also subject to controversy and questions. The invitation to Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse, notorious for war crimes and an ongoing policy of majoritarianism and ethnic cleansing of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, has led to anger and protests, especially by the people of Tamil Nadu. Apart from SAARC countries, Mauritius, an invitee to SAARC, was a guest at the swearing-in – begging the question why other SAARC invitees who are also India’s immediate neighb ...
The new Prime Minister is about to stumble over a rather nasty fact of life: governing India is a little different than lording over a state. It was a one-man show in Gujarat. But that is the familiar format in most states. As Chief Minister of Gujarat Modi was as complete a master of his house as, say, J Jayalalithaa is in Tamil Nadu, or Mamata Banerjee is in West Bengal or Navin Patnaik in Odisha. Modi is about to discover that he may not have all that elbow room for arbitrariness and personal caprice in New Delhi as he did in Gandhinagar.
If u are giving chance to Murali Vijay ! why cant u give chance to Virender Sehwag! i guess India is going to play test match in England !not in "Tamil Nadu "

Carnatic music or Karnāṭaka Saṃgīta is a system of music commonly associated with the southern part of the Indian subcontinent, with its area roughly confined to four modern states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. It is one of two main sub-genres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu traditions; the other sub-genre being Hindustani music, which emerged as a distinct form because of Persian and Islamic influences in North India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in gāyaki (singing) style. Although there are stylistic differences, the basic elements of śruti (the relative musical pitch), swara (the musical sound of a single note), rāga (the mode or melodic formulæ), and tala (the rhythmic cycles) form the foundation of improvisation and composition in both Carnatic and Hindustani music. Although improvisation plays an imp ...
Despite protests from political parties in Tamil Nadu, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New Delhi today, Firstpost .com reported.
Many waves and a media Tsunami by P Sainath There was a wave. More than one. A wave of revulsion against the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. A wave of anger too, against the highest sustained price rise over a five-year period in decades. A wave of despair over swiftly eroding livelihoods. A wave the Modi-led BJP was best placed to surf on, and did, pulling off a very big win. However, in almost every case, that anti-Congress-UPA wave benefitted the main organised opposition force in a given state. Across the Hindi belt and most of Western India, that force was the BJP. In Odisha, it was the BJD. In West Bengal, the TMC. The AIADMK gained in Tamil Nadu. The TDP and TRS in Andhra Pradesh. So if there was any wave of a national character, it was the anti-Congress one. But more on ‘waves’ lower down. The 2014 elections were about many important things. Just a few of them here: The collapse of the Congress Party The Congress was doomed by gross corruption and worse policies, the one flowing ...
65th National Basketball Championship for Junior Men and Women 2014. For those of you who are just tuning in, here are the results from Day 1 (26/5/14) Last year’s defending champions Chhatisgarh junior women have got off to a winning start by beating Tamil Nadu quite comfortably 84-63. In the first match of the day at 7:00 AM, Uttar Pradesh junior women won a tense match against Karnataka, after trailing at the end of the third quarter. UP’s tiny senior international point guard Preethi Kumari saved her side with 40 breathtaking points, many of which came after cutting into the teeth of the rival defense due to her strong mesmerising ball handling skills. In the Junior Men’s section, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and last year’s runners up Punjab registered convincing wins as well. Men 1) Rajasthan 95 (Mahipal Singh 20, Raghavendra Singh 14) bt Himachal Pradesh 45 (Sahil Bali 19, Keshav Sood 10) [QT wise scoring: 30-8; 22-17; 26-11; 17-9] 2) Andhra Pradesh 86 (SSVB Reddy 30, Peter 15, Harsha 10) bt Puduc ...

Respect for Gandhiji - but then even Godse had that respect :-) My hopes from this government: 1. Government keeps the promise of being pro-poor and not make policies for their sponsors 2.
