MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT BABA’S STATUS ADI JR. had many stories of his travels with Baba. The following story by Adi describes the mistaken impression of the Hollywood movie stars who became acquainted with Meher Baba. At the reception at the Pickfair, Adi Jr. was staying aloof seated at a table, keeping his worn-out shoe concealed. Tallulah Bankhead came up and sat near him. Adi warned her not to touch him. She explained that she just wanted to talk. During their chat, the actor Gary Cooper came by and Tallulah introduced Adi to the famous actor. Adi, who was feeling self-conscious, simply said how much he admired Mr. Cooper’s movies. Other stars came by, and Tallulah also introduced them to Adi who politely, but shyly, shook their hands. When it was announced that Baba wanted to leave, Tallulah asked Adi if it was possible for him to come to her house the next day for lunch, for she had something to talk about with him. Adi said that he thought it would be possible, but that he’d have to ask Baba. Whe ...
At Movies!, we like to bring you a variety of films that cover the gamut of human experiences and emotions—from classic comedies to inspiring dramas. Tonight on Icons @ 8, well...things are going to get a little creepy. Die! Die! My Darling! (1965) in addition to being one of the most punctuated movie titles anywhere, packs a heavy dose of tension. Stephanie Powers stars as a woman who spends an entirely unpleasant evening with the, let's say difficult, mother of her former fiancé. Tallulah Bankhead appears as the troubling woman, in this, her final film appearance. Then, stick around if you haven't been thoroughly wigged out and reacquaint yourself with The Stepford Wives (1975). The lovely little town of Stepford is charming and its residents seem so perfect. A little too perfect, if you ask us. See what lies behind those permanent smiles and sweet demeanors, as Katharine Ross and Paula Prentiss star in this classic. Tune in to Movies!, where we make it easy to be uneasy, tonight starting at 8ET/5PT.
14/4/21, a review by Tobias Everett I have received an invitation from Milo Nygren-Cassels to respond to his latest Frat or Not Wine Review with a contrary opinion. Let us set the scene. Here I sit, on a shortened couch, surrounded by ambient Central Asian music as reinterpreted by dubstep, mere feet from the grotto in which the original piece was penned. As I sip the sweetened liquor from a Phi Psi mug I flip between tabs, alternating between this review and a short biography of Tallulah Bankhead, who once described herself as "ambisextrous". Yesterday was a flawless, balmy afternoon, besotted by squirrels who absconded with the chocolate-filled plastic eggs from the college's annual hunt; today, however, the light Wisconsin drizzle is accompanied by an invigorating breeze that wafts through my second-story fraternity window. Wine, like any part of a true liberal arts education, cannot be judged outside of its proper cultural context. The taste of the beverage - or its alcohol content - is secondary to t ...

For the younglings out there who think Lucy is a fossil, you just don't have a grasp of what real comedy is. It isn't about how many curse words you can fit into a sentence. It's not bathroom "potty" humor. It's not even about the jokes made about current events. Lucy made us laugh without any of that. No foul language, no sex jokes, just plain basic comedy. If you don't believe me.look who flocked to her show: Charles Boyer, Red Skelton, Tallulah Bankhead, Steve Lawrence and Edie Gorme, Ida Lupino, Elsa Lanchester, Orson Welles, Van Johnson, Milton Berle, and even the Duke, John Wayne!
The Edgewater Beach Hotel was a hotel in the far-north neighborhood community of Edgewater in Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1916 and owned by John Tobin Connery and James Patrick Connery, it was located between Sheridan Road and Lake Michigan at Berwyn Avenue. The complex had a private beach and offered seaplane service to downtown Chicago. During its lifetime, the hotel served many famous guests including Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Bette Davis, Tallulah Bankhead, and Nat King Cole, and U.S. Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower. The hotel was known for hosting big bands such as the bands of Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat, and Wayne King, which were also broadcast on the hotel's own radio station, a precursor to WGN with the call letters WEBH.

Astrology of Aquarius: Physical Qualities and Activities Aquarians are far and away the most physically attractive sign in the zodiac, especially around the eyes, because the sign rules that area (as well as the lower legs). Just as the boy in the hieroglyph is beautiful because of a few soft feminine features, so too is each Aquarian blessed with androgynous good looks: men will have a feminine feature or two, women a masculine few. Most Aquarians have angular faces, not round, and slight builds. Each step is rather light, and the independent streak shows in how an Aquarian manages to avoid bumping into people. The list of beautiful female Aquarians, then, is quite long: Jeanne Moreau, Tallulah Bankhead, Mia Farrow, Kim Novak, Vanessa Redgrave, Princess Caroline, Geena Davis, Nastassia Kinski, Katherine Ross, Suzanne Pleshette, Princess Stephanie, Christie Brinkley, Barbara Hershey, Lana Turner, Tina Louise, Jane Seymour, Cybil Shepherd, and Vanna White. Handsome male Aquarians include Clark Gable, James ...

She was born Stefania Zofia Federkiewicz in Hollywood, California. Her parents divorced during her childhood. Sweetie...the state of Alabama has the most attractive accent :) It’s no surprise the Alabama accent is the most attractive An announcement that dropped in my inbox last week exclaimed this: Alabama’s accent voted the most attractive in North America! Well praise the Lord and pass the pickled peaches. But that ain’t nothin’ Tallulah Bankhead and her daaahling drawl didn’t already teach the whole wide world. “Only good girls keep diaries,” Tallulah cooed back in the day. “Bad girls don’t have time.” Words like that linger for an eternity in the Southern air. Like honeysuckle in spring. It’s not the humidity down South, sugar. It’s for dang sure the heat. Last week some online dating company put numbers to it all. It claims to have surveyed 2,000 men and women to pinpoint the continent’s most alluring accent. It wasn’t really just the Alabama accent they found hotter’n blazes. The whole Southern form beat the stew out of all other regions for inflection perfection. The Al ...

Well, I am back from my trip to NYC. On Monday morning, I walked up to St. Patrick's Cathedral. It is enveloped in scaffolding for cleaning and repair. Still a handsome structure. The crypt contains the bodies of the previous archbishops who have died. A famous one was the Most Rev. Archbishop Francis Cardinal Spellman. Tallulah Bankhead called him "Fannie Mae". We have heard stories about how cold New Yorkers can be. I met wonderful people along my walk. A man wearing a hard hat helped me get my walker down the stairs of the cathedral. I stopped at a kiosk in a park and had coffee with a wonderful gentleman. He is a veteran also so we shared war stories. I saw a young veteran (about 30) sitting on the sidewalk asking for help. To prove himself he was holding his VA id card. I gave him some money. He said "thank you". I started crying and said "no, thank you. You deserve a lot better." One of the many victims of GOP contempt for the poor. I flew out of La Guardia on Tuesday. Flight to Dallas/Ft. Worth was ...
Last night, Film Club continued both its seasonal query into horror films and the chronological study of the works of Sir Alfred Hitchcock with Bride of Re-Animator (Brian Yuzna, 1990; 8/10); Countess Dracula (Peter Sasdy, 1970; 9/10) and Lifeboat (Hitchcock, 1944; 9/10). Now a lifelong fan of Tallulah Bankhead. Film Club! =)

ACCEPTING OLD AGE Getting old is a fascinating thing. The older you get, the older you want to get.” Rolling Stone Keith Richards “Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.” Will Rogers, American comedian and actor GOLDEN YEARS “We don’t grow older, we grow riper.” Artist Pablo Picasso “One of the best parts of growing older? You can flirt all you like since you’ve become harmless.” Liz Smith, British actress “The age of a woman doesn’t mean a thing. The best tunes are played on the oldest fiddles.” Ralph Waldo Emerson, American writer “As you grow old, you lose interest in sex, your friends drift away, and your children often ignore you. "There are other advantages of course, but these are the outstanding ones.” Richard Needham, Earl of Kilmorey, politician “I’ve got cheekier with age. You can get away with murder when you’re 71 years old. People just think I’m a silly old fool.” Comedian Bernard Manning “One ...
Did anyone get a chance to watch Alfred Hitchcock's "Lifeboat" on TCM last week? Starred Miss Tallulah Bankhead, daughter of William Brockman Bankhead (who was born in the Greer Bankhead House) here in Sulligent, Alabama! This was Tallulah's most acclaimed screen performance, she was awarded the New York Film Critic's Award for Best Actress. Tallulah was such a roguish personality, definitely larger than life, she was a much better fit on the stage, the film roles she could have done were usually given to Bette Davis. Sulligent, Alabama, "Like nowhere else in the world". Help us save our historic treasures before it's too late.

Boys, if you did imitations in Junior High of James Cagney and Jimmy Stewart, you are geezers. Girls, that might be Tallulah Bankhead and Carol Channing for you.

The Snake Bite: via Worth viewing again and again . . . with Bette Davis and Tallula…
After considerable thought and research, we have decided to rename our beautiful new dog. Her name will no longer be Bunny, it is now Tallulah Belle. She's named after the actress Tallulah Bankhead and I think this name suits our sweet girl's looks and personality. We will most likely be calling her Lulah Belle or just Lulah for day to day.
On Sunday, October 13, 2013, 2-4:30 p.m., at historic Maple Hill Cemetery, more than 65 costumed characters will "come alive" to represent notables from the past during the annual Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll. This event is free to the public. Donations welcome. More than 200 years of history will come alive for the annual Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll. Costumed volunteers will share the stories of over 65 notables, both famous and infamous, who shaped the future of Huntsville and Alabama. Included are five Alabama Governors, soldiers from past wars, artist, poet and writer Maria Howard Weeden, the notorious madam, Molly Teal and Tallulah Bankhead visiting her parent's graves. Maple Hill was deeded to the city in 1822 and is one the largest cemeteries in Alabama, with almost 80,000 people buried within its grounds. The history of Maple Hill is also the history of the southeast during America's southern and westward expansion. Governors, bricklayers, paupers, the famous and the infamous are all buried within it ...
I had a dream about Valerie Harper last night. Given it was about her performance in Looped a couple years ago where she played Tallulah Bankhead, but it still counts! She was brilliant then and she's brilliant tonight!
Fred Allen and Tallulah Bankhead may have sent up the more saccharine of the pre-Bickersons family shows in a skit (the legendary "Mr. and Mrs. Breakfast Show"), and Goodman and Jane Ace (in Easy Aces) may have been a gently tart union of wry exasperation and effortless, brain-bending malaprops, but a regular series featuring a couple as highly combustible as John and Blanche may have been as daring as that era's network radio got when dealing with married life.
I like watching the Classics... Watching "LIFEBOAT" with Tallulah Bankhead
Did you know that THE BIRDS star Rod Taylor provides the voice of Pongo in 101 DALMATIANS, or that Cruella De Vil was inspired by Huntsville native Tallulah Bankhead?
Thanks for the prayers. The Great Physician is always on call, and you don't need insurance !! It appears the worst of the bronchitis is over, but I still sound like an East Tennessee version of Tallulah Bankhead. Fortunately, the rooms seem to be staying in place. Whatever bug got me, it had a mean left Leeuwenhoek. There are a lot of sick folks for this early in the year. It might be a good idea to keep some hand sanitizer with you, and also make sure you wash your hands when you come home. Diabetics like myself, and others who have lower immunity in the first place need to make double-sure you do what you can to keep healthy. On one positive note, I told the missus that now, I weigh about four pounds more than when we were married. I wonder if that dusty rose colored tux with the ruffled shirt. nah... never mind.
