According to Roger Waters, Arnold Layne was based on a real person - a transvestite whose primary pastime was stealing women's clothes and undergarments from washing lines in Cambridge. 1971: Steel Mill played their final show when they appeared at the Upstage Club, Asbury Park, New Jersey. Singer Bruce Springsteen formed new bands during the rest of the year known under such names as the Bruce Springsteen Jam, Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom, and finally the Bruce Springsteen Band. 1971: George Harrison became the first solo Beatle to have a No.1 when 'My Sweet Lord' went to the top of the UK single charts. David Gilmour's girlfriend Polly Samson said that from the first line of the lyric "Did you know... it was all going to go so wrong for you," they meant Syd Barrett. The second line, "And did you see it was all going to be so right for me," refers to Roger Waters from Gilmour's view. (thanks, Vahid - Tehran, Iran) The first part of this song is mainly a reference to Syd Barrett, while the second part is about Roger Waters - "I thought of you, and the years and all the sadness fell away from me." A lot of the songs on The Division Bell appear to be based on the band's now tumultuous relationship with ex-member Waters. (thanks, Matt - Russell Springs, KY)

Rock N’ Roll Dream by Gerry Phillips. I find myself in front of a big roadhouse with a big neon sign saying rock n roll. I walk through the door and on my left is a long bar. Sitting at the bar is Janice Joplin, Bon Scott, and John Bonham. Shots of bourbon in front of them each. Bon looks at me and nods towards Janice and says, Girls Got Rhythm. A great cackling laugh comes out of Janice as she sprays Southern Comfort all over the bar. As I walk past John Bonham he grabs by my arm and tells me to watch out for Keith Moon, he is full of *** tonight. As he was saying this he pointed over for me to see Keith Moon light a firecracker and throw it under John Entwistle’s chair. With a loud bang John jumps up and yells, Bugger the *** off Moon! I see a giggling Keith Moon run over to a smiling Syd Barrett slapping him on the back . I walk over where I see Elvis and Sid Vicious are asking Buddy Holly ,Clive Burr, and Ronnie Van Zant who has the best snarl. Of course they all say Elvis. I see in the corner ...
Guitar World, September 1994 THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY - by Brad Tolinski Touring Guitarist TIM RENWICK tells what it's like to be in the Pink. "I'm just your average, all-round, drop-in guitarist," says Tim Renwick with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. "Average" is hardly an appropriate description for this gifted English session ace who has toured with the likes of Eric Clapton, Elton John, Mike and the Mechanics, Roger Waters and, now, Pink Floyd. However, it was probably more than Renwick's sturdy rhythm and lead work that secured his position as David Gilmour's co-guitarist. "I go way back with the band," explains Renwick, "I actually went to school with Roger Waters and Syd Barrett. They were four years older than me, but I remember them quite clearly. Yes, they were very cool. Roger made history by refusing to join the cadet force -- he was a bit of a rebel. And Syd, believe it or not, was my patrol leader in the Scouts! He was a very impressive and charismatic bloke, as was Roger." What about Davi ...

Taking the lead of some of the other semi retired rockers...Clapton, Winwood, George Harrison in his day, and the crazy diamond, Syd Barrett, I've taken on the roll of the Gentlemanly Gardener. Rather relaxing actually...pulling weeds and such. The purple ones are the first to show their faces. The white ones (trilliums?) came up on their own last year for the first time. In spades across the street.just a few in our yard. trimmed the rose bushes and planted some Tulip bulbs that were given to me...Won't see them till next year. So we will see who comes up next. Cheers till then, Chauncey.

From Roch Parisien's Rocon Communications: Left us on this day (Apr. 18) in 2013: renowned UK graphic artist Storm Thorgerson (cancer, age 69); his catalogue includes some of rock's most famous album covers, including most Pink Floyd releases; he went to high school with Floyd's Syd Barrett & Roger Waters before eventually co-founding the Hipgnosis graphic arts collective in 1968, responsible for many popular album cover designs until closing shop in 1983; he formed his own design house, Storm Studios, in 1987; his most famous cover is arguably Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'; beyond Floyd, his often surreal work includes covers for The Cult's 'Electric', Led Zeppelin's 'Presence' & 'In Through the Out Door', Peter Gabriel's three self-titled albums, as well as visually stunning covers for Muse, Phish, Megadeth, Catherine Wheel, Black Sabbath, The Cranberries, Genesis, Alan Parsons, The Mars Volta & many more; Storm also directed popular videos for the likes of Bruce Dickinson, Nik Kershaw, Paul Youn ...
Shane MacGowan is the most literate of all rock stars. The proof is in the songs: 'Dark Streets of London', 'Sally MacLennane', 'A Pair of Brown Eyes' (which was misinterpreted and banned in Austrailia because they thought it was a sing about a *** orgy!), 'A Fairytale of New York', 'A Massacre in Texas' etc). I guess next best is Bowie, with Ziggy Stardust and then the the Man Who Sold the World. Rock stars create characters, but they're all gone, all gone. What happened to the legendary Syd Barrett? Or John Lydon, the first man to speak out about Jimmy Saville? The proof is in the pudding.
The way Syd Barrett sang in such a strong English accent was incredibly ground-breaking. Without him there would be no John Lydon I'm sure.
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond (live '87): via to Syd Barrett also dedicating it to Jim Morisson

Woke up and thought three things immediately; 1) How is Lyla feeling? She had a 103.3 fever for most of the day yesterday. 2) I cannot eat today like I did yesterday. I had the Benedryl munchies all day. I must run 1.75 miles today to hit my mark. And finally 3) I'm going to see the world's premier Pink Floyd Tribute Show: Brit Floyd at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center tonight. This year they're performing selections from all 14 albums including the Syd Barrett (Official)-era!Please don't ask what order these thoughts came into my head. Lol!
Pink Floyd is inducted to The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on 17 January 1996. Live Performance. A bitter sweet induction in the absence of Syd Barrett and Rog...
what about Syd Barrett? From the makers of "without Stu Sutcliffe they're not the real Beatles". xD
My music influence is too mixed & complex. From the idolized John Mayer to the schizophrenic mind of Syd Barrett & the anorexic Daniel Johns
Blog compares our single to Syd Barrett "blasted through the universe in an unstoppable arc". Nice! http:/…
