The term "social progress" has as much meaning as "hot ice" or "dark light". There is no such thing, ultimately, as "social progress"! -Swami Vivekananda.

Just loving the prospect: our own dada Sourav Ganguly has bought the Bengal football team for ISL, having direct involvement with Atletico Madrid football club. Then, I can proudly say "I was alive, when It all started" . to all the football enthusiast.
Modi has done great sacrifice like Gautam Budha and Swami Vivekananda to serve the country & Rahul and congress are doing blunders
My letter to TOI which they noted 'was inappropriate for publishing' on their lead story of RSS growth due to Modi wave - The sticky eye catching value of your P1 story is fantastic, but as an insider and a person who has written a book 'Secrets of RSS' after years of observations, let me tell you that it is nothing more than an easy attempt at catching readers' fancy. RSS shakhas don't 'sprout' so easily. You require committed a couple of workers who will stand there every day and collect people to attend it. It takes years of painstaking efforts to 'create' such a worker who will open a shakha. Shakhas have grown over years steadliy in slow manner because of nature of work and not sprouted overnight as you guess. If at all, one has to find reason for this upsurge it lies in huge ground work done during Swami Vivekananda's 150 year celebrations when RSS reached out to each and every cross section of Indian society. It undertook massive mobilization drives. That year saw huge rallies and camps across Indi ...
Swami Vivekananda on Islam : (Famous Philosopher and Preacher of modern India, Founder of Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math) Taught Love and Equality "The Hindus may get the credit of arriving at it earlier than other races, they being an older race than either the Hebrew or the Arab; yet practical Advaitism, which looks upon and behaves to all mankind as one's own soul, was never developed among the Hindus universally. On the other hand, my experience is that if ever any religion approached to this equality in an appreciable manner, it is Islam and Islam alone. Therefore I am firmly persuaded that without the help of practical Islam, theories of Vedantism, however fine and wonderful they may be, are entirely valueless to the vast mass of mankind." "(Islam) came as a message for the masses. The first message was equality. There is one religion - love. No more question of race, colour, (or) anything else. Join it! That practical quality carried the day. The great message was perfectly simple. Believ ...
Dr. Subramanian Swamy After years of silence, NaMo declared he was a married man & his wife is Jasodaben. Marriage was forced on a teenaged Narendra, however he left home in response to an inner call to work for the nation inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and martyrs like Bhagat Singh. Though he was silent on the issue, he never lied about it. Jasodaben also has no grievances against him, Modi helped in her education and she is nowa teacher. She is on pilgrimage to pray for Modi. Hats off to Narendra Modi.History will remember that there was a man who loved his Motherland more than himself, his family and his life. The silent selfless sacrifice of this Holy Couple cannot be understood by cheap minded communists and paid media which has no patriotism within them. Understand his sacrifice, the way he gave up his worldly pleasures & life in service of the motherland. Young Shahid Bhagat Singh also chose Love for Motherland over love for any lady or family and he made history. All Cannot be so co ...
Swami Vivekananda, Gautam Buddha, Kabir and Lao Tzu - Great personalities and I love to read about them and their teachings.
Cannot understand that charge against NaMo that he abandoned his family .. By the same yardstick 1) Swami Vivekananda left his poor mother and sister for the sake of our nation 2) Gautam Buddha 'abandoned' his wife and kids to preach humanism to the world 3) Mahavira left his family for spiritual awakening 4) Many theories claim that Jesus Christ had a family which was never acknowledged. I will not get into the relationships of Einstein, Gandhi, Churchill and many others with their spouses. NaMo is the victim here who like many in India was forced into a marriage by his family when he was a kid. The relationship ended with dignity and grace.
Early morning electoral exercise. Download the manifesto of the Left, the AAP, the BJP and the Congress. Read. Run a word search for 'AFSPA' and Sec 377. Be amazed to note that BJP and Congress do not mention them, AAP talks aggressively about the problems of AFSPA and the Left talks about both the issues. Judging from the Manifestos alone, the AAP and the CPIM are at least two levels above the BJP and the UPA in good governance, who simply use rhetoric in their manifesto. Mandir, Ban on Beef, Bullet trains, Public wi-fi, broadband in villages, employment, Gujarat Gujarat Gujarat, great designing, formatting errors, Modi smiling, saffron saffron saffron, a green corner, quotes of Mandela and Swami Vivekananda and National modernization of Madrasas- kya baat hai. That is what it is all about. Same old 'we will start Rajiv Gandhi XYZ plan' and nothing really substantial. Such a brilliant one. Focus on such clear cut ideas and an emphasis on fighting majoritarian oppression. Great section on foreign relation ...

Swami Vivekananda about Brahmin THE FUTURE OF INDIA Volume 3, Lectures from Colombo to Almora The Brahminhood is the ideal of humanity in India, as wonderfully put forward by Shankaracharya at the beginning of his commentary on the Gitâ, where he speaks about the reason for Krishna's coming as a preacher for the preservation of Brahminhood, of Brahminness. It is the duty of the Brahmin, therefore, to work for the salvation of the rest of mankind in India. If he does that, and so long as he does that, he is a Brahmin, but he is no Brahmin when he goes about making money. You on the other hand should give help only to the real Brahmin who deserves it; that leads to heaven. But sometimes a gift to another person who does not deserve it leads to the other place, says our scripture. You must be on your guard about that. He only is the Brahmin who has no secular employment. Secular employment is not for the Brahmin but for the other castes. To the Brahmins I appeal, that they must work hard to raise the Indian ...

The Story of the Birth of The Indian Institute of Science Swami Vivekananda - Where Hi Tech met Hi Touch Posted by Prof. KCR Raja In 1893, in a boat that sailed from Yokohama to Vancouver, two great Indians, one, a monk and the other, an industrialist met for the first time. The monk was Swami Vivekananda, who was to take and interpret to the West, more effectively than anyone else, the religious and philosophical traditions of India. The industrialist was Jamshedji Tata, the father of Indian industry. As they got talking, Vivekananda explained his mission of preaching in the US, the universality of all religions. Jamshedji said he was in search of equipment and technology that would build the steel industry and make India a strong industrial Nation. Vivekananda blessed Jamshedji, and remarked “How wonderful it would be if we could combine the scientific and technological achievements of the West with the asceticism and humanism of India!” They never met after that journey. But these words struck a c ...
10 Scientific Studies That Prove Consciousness Can Alter Our Physical Material World Posted By Expanded Consciousness on March 13, 2014 Nikola Tesla said it best, “the day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence. To understand the true nature of the universe, one must think it terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” Swami Vivekananda was Tesla’s mentor, an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th century saint Ramakrishna. Science works best when in harmony with nature. If we put these two together, we can discover great technologies that can only come about when the consciousness of the planet is ready to embrace them, like free energy. I want to make it clear that my intention of presenting this information is to demonstrate that thoughts, intentions, prayer and other units of consciousness can directly influence our physical material world. Consciousness can be a big factor in creating ...
Our generation never saw a leader like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose or Swami Vivekananda , Bhagath Singh , Veer savarkar , Bal Gangadhar Tilak , Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel , Lal Bahadur Shastri nor a AZAD , but what Narendra Modi is now a blend of all of them.
"The Resurgence of India means the Resurgence of Sanatana Dharma" -Sri Aurobindo and Swami Vivekananda, NOT Pseudo Secularism
Please read The Great Hindu Monk understanding on and His analysis about Islam. “Now, the Muslims are the crudest in this respect, and the most sectarian. Their watch-word is: there is one God (Allah), and Mohammed is His Prophet. Everything beyond that not only is bad, but must be destroyed forthwith, at a moment’s notice, everyman or woman who does not exactly believe in that must be killed; everything that does not belong to this worship must be immediately broken; every book that teaches anything else must be burnt. From the Pacific to the Atlantic, for five hundred years blood ran all over the world. That is (Islam)!” [The speech delivered at the club of on February 3, 1900. Education is not only for getting job, but for making better society, better nation, being human-Swami Vivekananda told by Bodhamayananda
"Each thought has two parts--the thinking and the word, and we must have both. Neither idealists nor materialists are right. We must take both idea and expression." ~ Swami Vivekananda, from Retreat given at the Thousand Island Park, USA. June 30, 1895. Complete Works, 7. 21.
Swami Vivekananda said that a bird cannot fly with only one wing, similarly a nation can not develop without development of women, he also said that women power will rise in India after the advent of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi , the Divine Mother of the Universe resides in all women according to Durgasaptashati, hence all women should be respected according to Sri Ramakrishna. The best way to celebrate International Women's day is to offer our salutations to the Divine Mother residing in all women and to be proactive as regards education of the women and rights of the women
Swami Vivekananda considered Sita as the ideal Indian woman. He also told, "The ideal womanhood of India is motherhood— that marvellous, unselfish, all suffering, ever-forgiving mother."
OM SAI RAM. Belur Math Belūr Maṭh or Belur Mutt is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, a chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It is located on the west bank of Hooghly River, Belur, West Bengal, India and is one of the significant institutions in Calcutta. This temple is the heart of the Ramakrishna Movement. The temple is notable for its architecture that fuses Hindu, Christian and Islamic motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions. In January 1897, Swami Vivekananda arrived in Colombo with his small group of Western disciples. Two monasteries were founded by him, one at Belur, which became the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission and the other at Mayavati on the Himalayas, near Almora called the Advaita Ashrama. These monasteries were meant to receive and train young men who would eventually become sannyasis of the Ramakrishna Mission, and to give them a training for their work. The same year the philanthropic activity was started and relief of t ...
the Holy Mother represents the ideal of contemporary womanhood, the perfect example of fully awakened, fully illumined Shakti power. As Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda removed the veils of weakness and ignorance covering the minds of human beings everywhere, the Holy Mother opened the floodgates for divine feminine expression showing a way to liberation and acting as an example for women the world over to follow. In Her is seen the exquisitely balanced blend of power and modesty, strength and humility, detachment and compassion, purity and practicality. By accepting Her as the ultimate standard for the women of contemporary times, immaculate Shakti power will emerge and homes, families, schools, workplaces and spiritual centers will again become pure and divinized. Happy women's day
A true Christian is warm-hearted, turns into Mother Teresa. A true Hindu is a deep-thinker, like Swami Vivekananda. A true Jew contributes great things to society, like Paul Ehrlich. A true Buddhist propagates the message of peace, like Buddha. A true Sikh is brave, and fights for truth, turns into Guru Nanak. A true Muslim follows the Qur'an, practises Jihad and will "cast fear in the hearts of disbelievers.", and turns into Osama Bin Laden.
President of India's message on the occasion of international women's day The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in his message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is observed every year on March 8, has said: - “On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to women in all parts of our country. I thank them for their invaluable contribution in the making of our great nation. Women in India have attained greatness through the ages – in political, academic and spiritual spheres. They enjoyed freedom and equal participation in public life in ancient India. In the Rig Veda, women are placed at the highest pedestal – ‘Yatr nariyastu poojayante ramante tatr devah’ or where women are worshipped, Gods preside there. The Taittriya Upanishad teaches us ‘Matridevo bhava’ or ‘Let your mother be God to you’. Swami Vivekananda rightly said, “All nations have attained greatness by paying proper respect to women. That country and t ...
Anna Hazare has once said about Arvind Kejriwal, "we worked good together. He was like my Hanuman". Anna is religiously right-winger and see how matter-of-factly believes in feudal idea of discrimination! To him he is elder, so virtuous commander and Kejriwal is younger - so a foot soldier, a servant!! (while in reality Anna served Kejriwal in his grand design of political power.) I call this right wing philosophy, because all Hindutva people are comfortable with this idea of master & servant. Even Vivekanada. Refer to this assertion by Jyotirmaya Sharma (an academic, political science) that Swami Vivekananda created the foundational basis for political Hindutva. Jyotirmaya says "He (vivekanand) was against untouchability. But he was also a radically empathetic proponent of re-establishing the caste system. In his conversation with a disciple, he says the Dalits should be taught the Bhagwat Gita and Sanskrit so that they learn to respect Brahmins and the upper castes better. The disciple asks, what if the ...

There are three kinds of violence: one, through our deeds; two, through our words; and three, through our thoughts. ... The root of all violence is in the world of thoughts, and that is why training the mind is so important." -- Eknath Easwaran While there's plenty of violence in the world, not many of us engage in violent actions. But are we violent at times with the words we speak? How often do we think vicious thoughts? We may assume our thinking is an internal matter that has no bearing on the quality of life in the world. Perhaps we need to think again. "The ancestor of every destructive action, every destructive decision, is a negative thought." -- Eknath Easwaran "We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far." -- Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda, known in his pre-monastic life as Narendranath Datta, was born in an affluent family in Kolkata on 12 January 1863. His father, Vishwanath Datta, was a successful attorney with interests in a wide range of subjects, and his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Devi, was endowed with deep devotion, strong character and other qualities. A precocious boy, Narendra excelled in music, gymnastics and studies. By the time he graduated from Calcutta University, he had acquired a vast knowledge of different subjects, especially Western philosophy and history. Born with a yogic temperament, he used to practise meditation even from his boyhood, and was associated with Brahmo Movement for some time. With Sri Ramakrishna At the threshold of youth Narendra had to pass through a period of spiritual crisis when he was assailed by doubts about the existence of God. It was at that time he first heard about Sri Ramakrishna from one of his English professors at college. One day in November 1881, Narendra went to meet Sri ...
DEFINITIONS Since time immemorial, education is estimated as the right road to progress and prosperity. Different educationists’ thoughts from both Eastern and Western side have explained the term ‘ education’ according to the need of the hour. Various educationists have given their views on education. Rabindranath Tagore – “Education enables the mind to find out the ultimate truth, which gives us the wealth of inner light and love and gives significance to life.” 3. Dr. Zakir Husain – “ Education is the process of the individual mind, getting to its full possible development.” 4. Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata organised a fabulous session titled ‘Sri Ramakrishna and the all time favourite Bengali songs’ which was compiled, anchored and sung by the Eminent Singer Sri Debasish Dutta. This was performed in presence of the Head of the Math, Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj, at the very Holy place where Swami Vivekananda was born. It was a well researched programme on the history and evolution of the very foundation of the 19th century devotional songs and how that helped in carving a niche in the society. The clarion call of Bengali literature actually began with songs like ‘Baishnab Padaboli kirtan’ etc. He emphasized the pivotal contribution of Sri Ramakrishna and the usage of these songs for education and spiritual upliftment of the masses. Sri Dutta shared some of the statistics which he gathered meticulously from various sources which is a ready reckoner to all of us: Sri Ramakrishna sang close to 182 songs. In . ...
Reminiscences of Swami : Ida Ansell = In the morning classes we were studying Swami Vivekananda's Raja-Yoga (it had been published in New York during his earlier visit to the West) when the Swami, then in Los Angeles, accepted an invitation from Rev. B. Fay Mills to give some lectures in the First Unitarian Church in Oakland. There I went with Miss Bell and other friends, early in February 1900, and we were startled and astonished at what we heard, amazed and enraptured at the Swami's appearance. He was surely a Mahatma or a divine being, more than human. No one had ever been so sublimely eloquent or so deliciously humorous, such an entrancing story-teller, or such a perfect mimic. When I saw and heard him and thought of the interpretation we had been given of the civilization that had produced him, I felt almost ashamed that I was an American. I went to most of his lectures with Miss Bell and to some with other friends and met the same glowing enthusiasm in all, though with some it was the man rather tha ...

Ennappadam Venkatraman Sundaram Articles about Art, Music, Poetry, Literature, Biography and Book reviews Friday, May 7, 2010 SRI RAM SWARUP - A FEARLESS INTELLECTUAL SEER OF MODERN HINDU INDIA V SUNDARAM I.A.S Sri Ram Swarup(1920-1998) Sri Ram Swarup (1920-1998) is perhaps the greatest Hindu intellectual of post-independent India. His most outstanding disciple was Sita Ram Goel, an 'Intellectual Kshatriya'. The intellectual and emotional relationship that existed between them for more than five decades is a glorious chapter in the history of Hindu revival after 1947. The intellectual relationship between these two great men was similar to the spiritual relationship between Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda in the latter half of the 19th century and the Hindutva relationship between Dr Hedgewar and Sri Guruji Golwalkar in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century. Sita Ram Goel often used to acknowledge the fact that he came back to the fold of Hinduism from the concentration camp of communism only ...

Several days later, when the plane re-entered Indian airspace, it was intercepted by a Mig21 of the Indian Air Force, and its crew were captured. Swamiji’s Contributions to India:: In spite of her innumerable linguistic, ethnic, historical and regional diversities, India has had from time immemorial a strong sense of cultural unity. It was, however, Swami Vivekananda who revealed the true foundations of this culture and thus clearly defined and strengthened the sense of unity as a nation. Swamiji gave Indians proper understanding of their country’s great spiritual heritage and thus gave them pride in their past. Furthermore, he pointed out to Indians the drawbacks of Western culture and the need for India’s contribution to overcome these drawbacks. In this way Swamiji made India a nation with a global mission. Sense of unity, pride in the past, sense of mission – these were the factors which gave real strength and purpose to India’s nationalist movement. Several eminent leaders of India’s freedom movement have acknowledged their indebtedness to Swamiji. Free India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wrote: “Rooted in the past, f ...

Read 'an Indian Pilgrim', unfinished auto-biography of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. It was written during 1937 timeframe (When Netaji was president of Congress). He wrote his story only till he completed his ICS exam. It is nice to know his childhood memories & stories. Author explains well his inner war on the thoughts of spirituality, trying to get the meaning for his life. Interesting to know how reading Swami Vivekananda can guide people in the right direction, clearing their long haunting doubts :). People interesting to read this book, please get the one from Jayashree Publications only. It is unedited version of what Netaji had written. Other publishers are selling edited versions, which may mask the thinkings of Netaji.

NOT-TO-BE FORGOTTEN HERO Sadly, Netaji Subhas Bose remains sidelined Marginalised by establishment historians, Subhas Chandra Bose was undoubtedly one of modern India's tallest leaders. His contribution to the country's independence struggle was unparalleled, his role in firming the foundations of a young nation-state unmatched. Yet, few meaningfully remember him, even on his birth anniversary — which fell on Thursday. Fewer still have any understanding of his life's work that was defined by the principles of spiritual nationalism as enunciated by Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo. Netaji, as he was known to his followers, once inspired an entire people to rise against oppression and foreign rule, and yet today he hardly commands space more than a few paragraphs in our history text books. Occasionally, conspiracy theories relating to his death in mysterious circumstances make it to the inside pages of our newspapers but for the most part, his memory has been relegated to yellowing framed pictures in B ...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE (REAL HERO OF INDIA) Subhash Chandra Bose was one of the greatest freedom fighters of India. He was born on January 23, 1897 at Cuttack in Orissa. His father, Jankinath Bose was a renowned lawyer of the area. His mother, Prabhavati, was a highly learned religiously-minded lady. Subhash Chandra imbibed many of his religious views from her. Some other persons who influenced him greatly were his teacher Beni Prasad Madho, C.R. Das and Swami Vivekananda. He was a very intelligent, precocious, patriotic child with revolutionary ideas in his mind from the very beginning. He did his graduation from the Presidency College in 1919. Later, he appeared and passed the ICS examination only to please his father. But actually his heart was framed for serving his motherland and getting it liberated from the foreign rule. In politics, his real mentors were Lokmanya Tilak and Sri Aurobindo Ghose more than Gandhi. Hence he was not much attracted towards the Non-Cooperation Movement which ...

151 years ago on this day Narendranath Dutta later known as Swami Vivekananda was born. The logo of the Ramakrishna Mission was conceived by him. The ocean ripples symbolise the chitta or mind stuff. By controlling our mind we practice Karma Yoga. The lotus represents Bhakthi. Complete surrender to God is Bhakthi Yoga. The sun represents Gnana Yoga. Once knowledge dawns our doubts vanish and we realise the Truth. The snake represents Raja Yoga. By controlling all the sense organs oneness is realised and there is nothing called second. If we practice any one of them or combination or all of them we will have the power of discrimination symbolised by Swan - Anna Pakshi. Swan has the power to separate milk and water! The discrimination is VIVEKA & VAIRAGYA. These are the 2 wings for us to fly to Moksha! What a grand idea Swamiji had given!
Call to the Youth of India Excerpts from the lectures of Swami Vivekananda India’s Heartbeat If there is any land on this earth that can lay claim to be the blessed Punya Bhumi, to be the land to which all souls on this earth must come to account for Karma, the land to which every soul that is wending its way Godward must come to attain its last home, the land where humanity has attained its highest towards gentleness, towards generosity, towards purity, towards calmness, above all, the land of introspection and of spirituality — it is India. Hence have started the founders of religions from the most ancient times, deluging the earth again and again with the pure and perennial waters of spiritual truth. Hence have proceeded the tidal waves of philosophy that have covered the earth, East or West, North or South, and hence again must start the wave which is going to spiritualise the material civilisation of the world. Here is the life-giving water with which must be quenched the burning fire of material ...

Today is the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda
India today is poised for a giant leap from the ranks of developing countries to developed countries. Our economic growth is robust and we boast of a very high percentage of youth population among the nations of the world. But, all these would be really fruitful and meaningful only if we can ensure that the benefits of prosperity and growth percolate down to the level of the masses across the length and breadth of the country. This is where many of the serious thinkers and well-wishers of this country are really apprehensive. The growth seems to be lopsided and the distribution of the benefits inequitable. Unless we address this concern very urgently, the situation may turn grave and disastrous. It is in this regard that we have a very wonderful remedy in the message of Swami Vivekananda. He is the perfect role model for the youth of this country and it is under his banner that the Indian youths can safely march towards their cherished goal holding their head high among the comity of nations _ Swami Vivek ...

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA 150 Birth Anniversary Org.by Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi Sri.G .RAGHAVA REDDY (VHP International Honorary President and BGUS President) in his address said that today many forces are working to divide the society, particularly the Hindu society. Building Prosperous India There are some people who consider Indian Muslims a liability. This is a view opposite to the role that any creative minority is destined to play in accordance with the infallible law of nature. The British historian--Arnold Toynbee, in his famous book “Study of History” theorises that it is always the creative minority that plays a revolutionary role in any civilization or society. What should the Indian Muslims do to play the creative minority role? They should simply give up a life-style marred by agitation and protests and learn to live as a creative group. In this country, they should not be a 'taking group' but a 'giving group'. Swami Vivekananda said in 1889 that the India of the future would be a glorious India and this glorious India would be built by Hindus and Muslims together. This is undoubtedly true.
The education board is now roping in the Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, to start "value education" for classes VII, VIII and IX.
HISTORY Kasar Devi first became known when in the 1890s, Swami Vivekananda visited and meditated here and has mentioned his experience in his diaries.[1] Walter Evans-Wentz, a pioneer in the study of Tibetan Buddhism, who later translated The Tibetan Book of the Dead, stayed here for some time. [2] Then in the 1930s, Danish mystic Sunyata Baba (Alfred Sorensen) came here and lived here the over three decades, as did Ernst Hoffman, who became Tibetan Buddhist Lama Anagarika Govinda and Li Goutami. This lead to a series of spiritual seekers from the west, visiting them. In 1961, Govinda was visited by Beat poets, Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky and Gary Snyder.[3][2] In later history, at the peak of the Hippie movement, the area also became a part of the Hippie trail. Crank's Ridge, colloquially known as Hippie Hill, which lies ahead of Kasar Devi became a popular destination. It became home to several bohemian artists, writers and western Tibetan Buddhists, and even visited by mystic-saint Anandamayi Ma. Th ...

Swami Vivekananda - Daily Quote 256: The mistake is that we cling to the body when it is the spirit that is really immortal.
[ Shri Surendra Nath Das Gupta ] One day, with some of my young friends belonging to different colleges, I went to the Belur Math to see Swamji ( Swami Vivekananda ). We sat round him; talks on various subjects were going on. No sooner was any question put to him than he gave the most conclusive answer to it. Suddenly he exclaimed, pointing to us, " You are all studying different schools of European Philosophy and metaphysics and learning new facts about nationalities and countries; can you tell me what is the grandest of all the truths in life ? " We began to think, but could not make out what he wanted us to say. As none put forth any reply, he exclaimed in his inspiring language: " Look here - we shall all die! Bear this in mind always, and then the spirit within will wake up. Then only, meanness will vanish from you, practicality in work will come, you will get new vigor in mind and body, and those who come in contact with you will also feel that they really got something uplifting from you." - Swami ...

BEST FRIENDS OVER THE YEARS-is a saying, tell me who your friends are, and I'll tell you who YOU are. When I was at school, a teacher of mine asked my class to think of and make a list of ten people who we thought to be our ideal human-beings. I have made such lists on every new-year day ever since that first list of mine. There have been few changes on my lists over the years. They have included nearly the same ten people. Here is my last such list: 1. Gautam Buddha 2. Lao-Tze or Laozi 3. Socrates 4. Jesus 5. Baruch Spinoza 6. Leo Tolstoy 7. Bertrand Russell 8. Mahatma Gandhi 9. Jawaharlal Nehru 10. Albert Einstein { Others on my lists over the years have been: Plato, Descartes, Kant, Swami Vivekananda, Mother Teresa, Akbar, Krishna, Adi Shankara, Sri Aurobindo, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Maharana Pratap, Shivaji, Niels Bohr, Max Planck, Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci, Issac Newton, Søren Kierkegaard, Andrei Sakharov and Charles Darwin }

We who have come from the East here have been told day after day in a patronizing way that we ought to accept Christianity because Christian nations are the most prosperous. We look about us and see England as the most prosperous nation in the world, with her foot on the neck of 250 million Asiatics. We look back in history and see Christian Spain's wealth beginning with the invasion of Mexico. Such prosperity comes from cutting the throats of fellow men. At such a price the Hindu will not have prosperity. -- Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, at the Parliament of the World's Religions, 1893
Necessity For A Guru Ishvara (God) is Guru of gurus. He removes the veil of ignorance and blesses the ignorant jiva (soul). The aspirant should regard his immediate guru—in the physical form—as an incarnation of that Guru of all gurus. He should have equal devotion to him. Guru in physical form is the main source and embodiment of all good and happiness that accrues to the disciple. The disciple should realise the supreme necessity for obeying the guru's commands and behests. He should keep his faith in the guru unsullied and staunch. Lay bare to your guru the secrets of your heart. The more you do so, the greater the sympathy. And this means an accession of strength to you in the struggle against sin and temptation. A spiritual teacher actually transmits his spiritual power to his disciple. A certain spiritual vibration of the satguru is actually transferred to the mind of the disciple. Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa actually transmitted his spiritual power to Swami Vivekananda. Lord Jesus did the same ...

Why India is great country? Are we making the country Proud? An incident happened to my friend made me to think about it. She works in USA and her office colleague is coming to India for inspection work at their plant in Aurangabad. She asked him, how he is feeling? She was shocked with his reply, it was “What’s there to feel? And even I want to come back as soon as possible.” She tried to make him aware of India’s contribution by saying Aryabatta’s invention of ‘0’. About Vedas, Upanishads, Sutras and their contribution. About The world's first university at Takshila. About Brahmagupta and Bhaskara 2’s gravity concept, World’s first navigation (was born in the river Sindh) and Ashoka’s care of Environment. And with contributions of contemporary personalities like Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, Abdul Kalam, Amartya Sen etc.. As I turn a quarter of a century, I contemplated on some of the people who have influenced me the most in my spiritual path. The obvious few would be Swami Vivekananda, with his Guru Paramahamsa Ramakrishna, Adi Shankara, Appar, Yogananda, Ramana Maharishi and ofcourse my own self perception on various scriptural dogmas. I wanted to thank someone/god or being for bringing me this far in life with both intellect and philosophical inquiry. As such I thought about writing a short biography of one the above saints only to realize that they are already infinitely famous (at least within Hinduism) and there would not be much of a tribute to my system of thought and as such I decided upon the patron saint Vidyaranya. He is not very well known amongst most Hindus but his very existence is one of the core reasons for the existence of Hinduism itself. Though I dont believe my humble efforts would even make a dent, it would bring great joy to me if my fellow peers took the pain to read this.     This great swami ...
Good morning from South India. Here is a great photo of the end of India,Kanyakumari. Kanniyakumari (or Kanyakumari) is a town on the southern most tip of the main land of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is also known as Cape Comorin. India has high mountains on one side and oceans and sea shores on the others. - The Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. And the confluence of these three seas can be witnessed in Kanyakumari. This unique geographical phenomenon has made this little town in the southern most tip of mainland India one of the significant destinations in any religious or pleasure trips that one seeks to undertake in this country. The fame of Kanyakumari attracts prominent people from across the world, including names such as Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi. Its not by coincidence that there are memorials named after these two figures. Moreover, Kanyakumari is one of the few places in the world where one can witness both the sunset and sunrise at the same beach due to t ...

Sensitizing your Core energy for Integration to Perfection & ultimate Happiness The recent blog on Times of India about Chinese CEO going for Mind sensitization workshops opens up a new arena for research in human journey to cosmic energy. This further strengthens Dr Murali Manohar Joshi’s initial attempts in early 2001 of attempting the inclusion of Vedic science and astrology as a scientific subject matter for study and research though the later was in controversy from all laureates of that time not only through globe but also within country itself. Newton’s third law states that energy can neither be destroyed nor created but transforms from one form to another form. So is the divine energy too to which common man term it as Divine power the ultimate truth or almighty. The universe is nothing but dynamic energy transformation process. And so is all living creator starting from plants to animals. Swami Vivekananda on his Chicago visit wowed out the self realization and its power. He insisted that tr ...
Indian National Movement | Freedom Movement in India It has been observed that the struggles for Freedom in India had been a merger of a whole series of political events spreading over many decades. The contribution of various social and religious leaders made the people conscious of India's rich cultural heritage and helped to eradicate the social evils prevented in society. Raja Ram Mohan Roy (1772 - 1833) Mrs. Annie Besant (1847 - 1933) Swami Dayanand Saraswati (1824 - 1883) Sir Syed Ahmed Khan (1817 - 1898) Mahadev Govind Ranade (1842 - 1901) Ramkrishna Paramahamsa (1836 - 1886) Swami Vivekananda (1863 - 1902) Vinoba Bhave: (1895 - 1982) Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (1820 - 1891) B. R. Ambedkar: (1891-1956) The spirit of nationalism in Indian society was very much influenced by the socio-religious reforms propagated by these eminent personalities. The year 1857 witnessed mutiny and revolt throughout northern India, which is considered as the first milestone in opposition to British rule. Further extremis ...
India is proud of being the birth place of great national heroes like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Lal Bahadur Shastri etc. Among them I choose Mahatma Gandhi as my favourite National hero. The title “Mahatma” i.e. a great soul was given to Gandhiji by the people. Gandhiji begged the people not to call him 'Mahatma'. He said that he was only 'Alpatma' means low spirit. Mahatma Gandhi Image courtesy: www.wikipedia.com He became great by reason of the way in which he ordered his life. Deeds are better than words. A man is to be managed by his nature and conduct. He had a faith in deeds, not in words. Man cannot be judged by the opinions he holds. He ordered his life to do as he wished. He would ask himself during the day if he said or did anything which was unworthy. If he did some mistakes, he would pray to God that he should be saved from doing wrong. People thought of him as a perfect man ...

Patel was pro-Hindu, not anti-Muslim sk sadar nayeem BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's appreciation of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is part of a specially designed strategy aimed at achieving political objectives. The Sangh Parivar has recast the political discourse on Sardar Patel in order to portray that he practised the 'Hindutva brand of secularism'. To prove this point, BJP and RSS leaders operate cleverly behind the fog of confusion, and this isn't the first time they are doing so. Some years ago, BJP tried to uphold Swami Vivekananda as a 'champion of militant Hinduism' and his messages as the very basis of the Savarkar-Hedgewar-Golwalkar brand of Hindutva. But unlike RSS leaders, Vivekananda lambasted religious bigotry and fanaticism in the name of Hinduism. Sardar Patel's utterances, policies and actions as India's deputy prime minister may be seen as blunt and ruthless, but they were never anti-Muslim. It is true that after partition, he seemed to have become pro-Hindu, having been ...

Fountain at Kanniyakumari Kanyakumari district, which lies in the southern most tip of Peninsular India, is famous for its majestic hills, virgin beaches, pristine rivers and meandering rivulets. The district has a fragrance of architecture culture and customs of neighbouring Kerala mixed with the rich deep traditions, culture and architecture of Tamil Nadu. However, for want of promotional campaign and lack of basic amenities most of the tourists coming to this district return back after seeing just Kanyakumari and Padmanabhapuram Palace. It was at this juncture that the district administration decided to take up tourism promotion initiatives in a major way. Attempt has been made to put up basic amenities at the virgin beautiful spots so as to facilitate the inflow of the tourists. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial The place has been associated with great men like Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi in whose names memorials have been here. Vivekananda’s contributions to World Culture Making an objective assessment of Swami Vivekananda’s contributions to world culture, the eminent British historian A L Basham stated that “in centuries to come, he will be remembered as one of the main moulders of the modern world…” Some of the main contributions that Swamiji made to the modern world are mentioned below: 1. New Understanding of Religion: One of the most significant contributions of Swami Vivekananda to the modern world is his interpretation of religion as a universal experience of transcendent Reality, common to all humanity. Swamiji met the challenge of modern science by showing that religion is as scientific as science itself; religion is the ‘science of consciousness’. As such, religion and science are not contradictory to each other but are complementary. This universal conception frees religion from the hold of superstitions, dogmatism, priestcraft and intolerance, and makes religion the highest and noblest pursuit – the p ...

SHRI . ARUN SHOURIE'S BOOK " WORSHIPPING FALSE GODS " - 'There is not one instance, not one single, solitary instance in which Ambedkar participated in any activity connected with that struggle to free the country' Arun Shourie's book 'Woshipping False Gods' The furore following the desecration of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar's statue in Bombay has largely been interpreted as the resurgence of the dalit movement in India. A phenomenon which first saw its genesis in the philosophy and personality of Dr B R Ambedkar 50 years ago. In his book, Worshipping False Gods, Arun Shourie challenges Dr Ambedkar's contribution to Indian Independence. The book has already run into controversy and several dalit organisations in Maharashtra want it banned. Ambedkar's public life begins in a sense from a public meeting held at the Damodar Hall in Bombay on March 9, 1924. The struggle for freeing the country from the British was by then in full swing. Swami Vivekananda's work, Sri Aurobindo's work, the Lokmanya's work had already ...

“Let me tell you frankly that I am now convinced that you have a great future in the work for India. What was wanted was not a man, but a woman—a real lioness—to work for Indians, women especially. India cannot yet produce great women; she must borrow them from other nations. Your education, sincerity, purity, immense love, determination and above all, the Celtic blood make you just the woman wanted." Swami Vivekananda could foresee her future role in India and narrated to her the pitiable condition of the women in India. He was a great visionary of India and his thoughts were based on 'look forward' visions. Presently, condition of women is in progress. In comparison, conditions are same in proportionate to the growth of population. To improve upon the condition of women under the British rule, she was chosen for the role of educating Indian women. Sister Nivedita (Margaret Elizabeth Noble) born on 28 October 1867. On the eve of her birthday, our heartfelt gratitude to her from the place, Roy Villa ...
"Instead of succumbing to division, you have shown that the strength of India—the very idea of India—is its embrace of all colors, castes and creeds. It’s the diversity represented in this chamber today. It’s the richness of faiths celebrated by a visitor to my hometown of Chicago more than a century ago—the renowned Swami Vivekananda. He said that, “Holiness, purity and charity are not the exclusive possessions of any church in the world, and that every system has produced men and women of the most exalted character." — Barack Obama

What we want are Western science coupled with Vedanta, brahmacharya as the guiding motto, and also shraddha and faith in one's own self. Vedanta says that within man is all knowledge even in a boy it is so and it requires only an awakening, and that much is the work of a teacher. But the root is religion. Religion is as the rice, and everything else, like the curries. Taking only curries causes indigestion, and so is the case with taking rice alone. - Swami Vivekananda
" The present Hindu society is organised only for spiritual men, and hopelessly crushes out everybody else. Why? Where shall they go who want to enjoy the world a little with its frivolities? Just as our religion takes in all, so should our society. This is to be worked out by first understanding the true principles of our religion and then applying them to society. This is the slow but sure work to be done. " - Swami Vivekananda

So far we see that it is hard to find any universal features in regard to religion, and yet we know that they exist. We are all human beings, but are we all equal? Certainly not. Who says we are equal? Only the lunatic. Are we all equal in our brains, in our powers, in our bodies? One man is stronger than another, one man has more brain power than another. If we are all equal, why is there this inequality? Who made it? We. Because we have more or less powers, more or less brain, more or less physical strength, it must make a difference between us. Yet we know that the doctrine of equality appeals to our heart. Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda – Vol. II P. 380-381
Lord Rama Lord Rama is known as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Rama, the perfect avatar of the Supreme Protector Vishnu, has always been popular among the Hindu deities. Rama is the symbol of courtesy and virtue, a man of values and morals. Ramachandra is Maryada Purushottama, which means the perfect man. Lord Rama is considered to have taken birth on the earth to destroy the evil forces of the age. Lord Rama, in the words of Swami Vivekananda, is "the embodiment of truth, of morality, the ideal son, the ideal husband, and above all, the ideal king". Rama is widely accepted to be an actual historical figure - a "tribal hero of ancient India" - whose deeds form the great Hindu epic of Ramayana or The Romance of Rama, written by the ancient Sanskrit poet Valmiki. According to the Hindus belief, Rama lived in the Treta Yug. Although historians are of the conviction that Rama was not particularly deified until the 11th century AD. Tulsidas' wonderful version of the Sanskrit epic "Ramayana" into "Ramc ...
Impression on ' Swami Vivekananda ' in Chicago . In his deep voice, he began, Sisters and Brothers of America'- and the entire audience, many hundred people, clapped and cheered wildly for two minutes. No doubt the vast majority of those present hardly knew why they had been so powerfully moved. The appearance, even the voice, of Vivekananda cannot fully explain it. A large gathering has its own strange kind of subconscious telepathy, and this one most have been somehow aware that it was in the presence of that most unusual of being, a man whose words express exactly what he is. When Vivekananda said, Sisters and Brothers' he actually meant that he regarded the American women and men before him as sisters and brothers; the well-known orational phrase became simple truth. - By Christopher Isherwood, in What Religion Is in the words of Swami.

"...Our universe is that portion of existence which is characterised by what the Sanskrit psychologists call Desha-kala-nimitta, or what is known to European psychology as space, time, and causation. This universe is only a part of infinite existence, thrown into a peculiar mould, composed of space, time, and causation. It necessarily follows that law is possible only within this conditioned universe; beyond it there cannot be any law. When we speak of the universe, we only mean that portion of existence which is limited by our mind–the universe of the senses, which we can see, feel, touch, hear, think of, imagine. This alone is under law; but beyond it existence cannot be subject to law, because causation does not extend beyond the world of our minds. Anything beyond the range of our mind and our senses is not bound by the law of causation, as there is no mental association of things in the region beyond the senses, and no causation without association of ideas. It is only when “being” or existence ...

The validity of the excerpts from the biography of Swami Vivekananda may be checked ,"Being the foodie he was, he would eat lot of junk food. “I would add chunks of meat in boiling water with some spices and serve a dish to Thakur (Paramahamsa). Whereas, Naren (Vivekananda) would cook varieties of non-vegetarian dishes”, says Sharadadevi in one of her writings. Sister Nivedita has also elaborately documented the culinary skills of Vivekananda, comprising of national and international recipes. The day he died is when the Hilsa fish had entered the Hoogly river; he had got it cooked, had it for lunch and later in the day when he was resting is when he breathed his last that night."
The trend of hiding the truth and teachings of personalities nd promoting biased history books have taken the number of dieties in India to crores. Projecting Swami Vivekananda, a Shudra by birth as a brand ambassador of Hinduism where a Sudra is meant only for serving the upper caste is so opportunistic. How can a non vegeterian Swami be a religious leader of so called vegeterian society. In real terms, he was a true philosopher who seeks to unravel the mystery of nature.
The beggar is never happy. The beggar only gets a dole with pity and scorn behind it, at least with the thought behind that the beggar is a low object. He never really enjoys what he gets. We are all beggars. Whatever we do, we want a return. We are all traders. We are traders in life, we are traders in virtue, we are traders in religion. And ! we are also traders in love. - Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda said - By whatever path you go, you will have to lose yourself in the One.
We will illustrate love by a triangle, of which the first angle at the base is fearlessness. So long as there is fear, it is not love. Love banishes all fear. A mother with her baby will face a tiger to save her child. The second angle is that love never asks, never begs. The third or the apex is that love loves for the sake of love itself. Even the idea of object vanishes. Love is the only form in which love is loved. This is the highest abstraction and the same as the Absolute. Written during first visit to America, in response to questions put by a Western disciple. The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Part-8. Page-154.

Once Swami Vivekananda told about Indian culture that when our saints cultured the philosophy and religion, the western were still naked. One more quote from Swami Vivekananda, for Mahesh Mahi: "The Vedanta recognizes no sin it only recognizes error. And the greatest error, says the Vedanta is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, a miserable creature, and that you have no power and you cannot do this and that."
Santana [To Brittany]: "When did you get so smart?" its way through a thousand difficulties, Swami Vivekananda

If there is one word that you find coming out like a bomb from the Upanishads, bursting like a bombshell upon masses of ignorance, it is the word “fearlessness.” This will only come if you do unconditional cheerful surrender to "THE GURU" (SWAMI VIVEKANANDA)
Because of its rock-star status, I’ve developed the acronym Y-O-G-A to give you a memorable overview on what this practice entails. “Y” reminds us that the word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit word “yogah,” which means “to yoke or to unite.” Indeed, the goal of yoga is to uncouple oneself from the material world and to unite oneself with the god of Hinduism, commonly understood to be Brahman, the impersonal cosmic consciousness of the universe. Put another way, yoga is the means by which the user’s mind is merged into the universal mind. “O” represents the Hindu mantra “Om”—a sacred Sanskrit syllable cherished by Hindu yogis as the spoken quintessence of the universe. Repeating such mantras as “Om” over and over is a principalmeans by which yoga practitioners work their way into altered states of consciousness. The objective of achieving an altered state of consciousness is always the same: to dull the critical-thinking process because the mind is seen to be the obstacle t ...

The Vedanta philosophy, as it is generally called at the present day, really comprises all the various sects that now exist in India. Thus there have been various interpretations, and to my mind they have been progressive, beginning with the dualistic or Dvaita and ending with the non-dualistic or Advaita. The word Vedanta literally means the end of the Vedas — the Vedas being the scriptures of the Hindus. Sometimes in the West by the Vedas are meant only the hymns and rituals of the Vedas. But at the present time these parts have almost gone out of use, and usually by the word Vedas in India, the Vedanta is meant. The Vedanta, then, practically forms the scriptures of the Hindus, and all systems of philosophy that are orthodox have to take it as their foundation. All the Vedantists agree on three points. They believe in God, in the Vedas as revealed, and in cycles. All the books contained in the Upanishads have one subject, one task before them — to prove the following theme: "Just as by the knowledg ...
Did You Know? Apart from Swami Vivekananda , George Harrison from The Beatles also introduced Yoga to the West!
"Take Risks in Your life.. If You succeed, You can lead others.. If You fail, You can guide others.!!". Swami Vivekananda.
To succeed, you must have tremendous perseverance, tremendous will. 'I will drink the ocean,' says the persevering soul, 'at my will mountains will crumble up.' Have that sort of energy, that sort of will, work hard, and you will reach the goal. - Swami Vivekananda
9 October : The day in the life of Swami Daily Free Press dt October 09, 1893 writes about Swami Vivekananda's talk on Hindu civilisation : the India of today was the same India that had watched for centuries the meteoric nations of the world flash across the horizon and sink into oblivion. In common with the people, he loves the past. He lives not for self, but for God. In his country a premium is placed on beggary and tramps. When the meal is prepared, they wait for some man to come along who is first served, then the animals, the servants, the man of the house and lastly the woman of the household. Boys are taken at 10 years of age and are kept by professors for a period of ten to twenty years, educated and sent forth to resume their former occupations or to engage in a life of endless wandering, preaching, and praying, taking along only that which is given them to eat and wear, but never touching money. Vivekananda is of the latter class. Men approaching old age withdraw from the world, and after a pe ...
Swami Vivekananda's morality is at stake!
"The world is the great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong." - Swami Vivekananda
Thought of the day- Strength is life, weakness is death. Strength is felicity, life eternal, immortal; weakness is constant strain and misery; weakness is death. - Swami Vivekananda
The spiritual can never be attained, until the material has been extinguished. ~Swami Vivekananda
"If money help a man to do good to others, it is of some value; but if not, it is simply a mass of evil, and the sooner it is got rid of, the better." Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda - Religion is neither talk, nor theory, nor intellectual consent. It is realisation in the heart of our hearts; it is touching God; it is feeling, realising that I am a spirit in relation with the Universal Spirit and all Its great manifestations.
“The greatest sin is to think yourself weak” - Swami Vivekananda
