This is a time when the country and the world are celebrating the 150th Birth Anniversary of some of the renowned personalities like Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Sir Asutosh Mookerjee, Anagarika Dharmapala and Karmayogi Kripasaran Mahasthavir (1865 – 1926). We here at the Bauddha Dharmankur Sabha (Bengal Buddhist Association) feel privileged to have got the opportunity to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of our Founder. Born on 22nd June 1865 in Unainepura in the district of Chittagong in the then undivided India which today is in Bangladesh, he came here in the prime of his youth after being ordained in 1885 and pledged to himself to work for the regeneration of Buddhism and Buddhist culture in the land of its birth which was already in a steady decline and also to unite the scattered Barua Buddhist community which lay scattered and fragmented in different parts of India. Nikola Tesla, a real genious with a heart of a true yogi. - Nikola Tesla and Swami Vivekananda - “In the early 1890s, one of the greatest scientists of the western world worked on a challenge thrown at him by one of greatest Indian philosophers. Nikola Tesla, the extraordinary inventor and father of electricity as we know it today, met with Swami Vivekananda – one of the greatest spiritualists of Hinduism. The Indian Swami offered him a treasure trove of Vedic wisdom about the matters of energy and matter, about how the vedic science considered the universe to be charged. Tesla promised the Swami that he would mathematically demonstrate that force and matter could be equated to potential energy in some fashion. It was at a party given by Sarah Bernhardt that Nikola Tesla first met Swami Vivekananda. Sarah Bernhardt was playing the part of ‘Iziel’ in a play of the same name. It was a French version about the life of Bhudda. The actress upon seeing Swami Vivekananda in the audience, arranged a meeti ...
10 Scientific Studies That Prove Consciousness Can Alter Our Physical Material World Nikola Tesla said it best, “the day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence. To understand the true nature of the universe, one must think it terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” Swami Vivekananda was Tesla’s mentor, an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th century saint Ramakrishna. Science works best when in harmony with nature. If we put these two together, we can discover great technologies that can only come about when the consciousness of the planet is ready to embrace them, like free energy. I want to make it clear that my intention of presenting this information is to demonstrate that thoughts, intentions, prayer and other units of consciousness can directly influence our physical material world. Consciousness can be a big factor in creating change on the planet. Sending thoughts of love, hea ...

Kasar Devi has history and is a legendary place : Read on--- Kasar Devi first became known when in the 1890s, Swami Vivekananda visited and meditated here and has mentioned his experience in his diaries.. Walter Evans-Wentz, a pioneer in the study of Tibetan Buddhism, who later translated The Tibetan Book of the Dead, stayed here for some time. . Then in the 1930s, Danish mystic Sunyata Baba (Alfred Sorensen) came here and lived here the over three decades, as did Ernst Hoffman, who became Tibetan Buddhist Lama Anagarika Govinda and Li Goutami. This lead to a series of spiritual seekers from the west, visiting them. In 1961, Govinda was visited by Beat poets, Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky and Gary Snyder. In later history, at the peak of the Hippie movement, the area also became a part of the Hippie trail. Crank's Ridge, colloquially known as Hippie Hill, which lies ahead of Kasar Devi became a popular destination. It became home to several bohemian artists, writers and western Tibetan Buddhists, and eve ...

Today I was in RKM Chandigarh, talking with a maharajji (monk). 2 senior police inspectors stormed in for approach of their superitendent's kid for admission in RKM School. Now the maharajji humbly scolded them off and never forgot to mention to send his 'words' to the superitendent. After I walked out the 2 policemen signalled me near van asking in shock, what 'approach' these men in saffron have? :D I ended up replying, from an ordinary me to the Prime Minister of India are regular devotees of this place. And all devotees, non-devotees are treated equally at its gate. Unless they carry a letter of approach from the Governor General, Swami Vivekananda or the Emperor, Sri Ramakrishna or a Buddha, Christ, Nanak, Mohammad etc - himself; these men in saffron can't be startled or bombed with however big an authority or name. Next moment, the van was speeding at 60 :D :D
HARI OM A LAND OF DEEPENING MORAL VACUUM Vivekanand Jha Author of Delhi Beckons: RaGa for NaMo Modi's development agenda and his dream to elevate India to the level of Jagatguru will remain inconsequential unless India's moral compass is restructured and redefined and the ever widening gap between the two extreme sides of the moral pendulum is successfully bridged. While delivering a memorable speech in U.S.A, Swami Vivekananda had proudly said that while the western forefathers wandered in the forest as barbarians, their oriental counterparts meditated on god and sincerely endeavoured to realise Him. Although Swami Vivekananda sought to portray a positive image of the wretched India through the prism of spirituality, it still satiated his heart that his motherland had the singular distinction of being the moral guardian of the world which taught the world the concept of morality and god. And he greatly succeeded in his mission: selling the moral and spiritual superiority of orientals to the Americans who ...

Prime Minister Modi to clear up Subhas Bose's mystery: Bangla newspaper Leading Bangla daily Bartman Patirka has carried a front page story in its today's edition. rough translation rendered by Diptasya Jash reads as follows: "At last Narendra Modi has got a chance to pay respect to his role models. Narendra Modi earnestly wants to give tribute to his role models with the highest honour of the country. In that list the first two names are Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. According to sources in BJP Modi has already talked about his desires with several party leaders. Along with these names Madan Mohan Malabya and Atal Vihari Vajpayee's name are also there. There is some debate also going on within the BJP over this matter. The question is even if Modi want to award Bharat Ratna to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for paying the highest order of respect how much is it possible? Swami Vivekananda and Varanasi Swami Vivekananda had a deep and ardent devotion to Vishwanatha and to Varanasi, which is revealed in his numerous utterances and writings on as well as his few visits to Varanasi. Swamiji’s visits to Varanasi are particularly memorable. Here occurred that famous incident, between Sankata Mochana and Durga Kunda: Swamiji was being chased by a group of monkeys, but was unable to escape from them, when an old monk called out to him, ‘Face the brutes!’ Swamiji did just that, and the monkeys beat a hasty retreat, revealing to him the life-long lesson of boldly facing the brute. It was to Sri Pramadadas Mitra, the reputed scholar of Kashi, that Swamiji looked for answers to various scriptural questions during his Baranagar monastery days in the 1880s. He also shared with him his Master’s teachings and hoped that Pramadadas Babu would help him acquire funds for his Master’s memorial in Bengal. Unfortunately, Pramadadas Babu did not approve of Swamiji’s efforts. Subsequ ...

Once Naren (Swami Vivekananda) told his Master, "You are, all the time, thinking of me. Don't you know the story of King Bharata? He always thought of a deer and then he had to become a deer. Don't you know the story?" The other disciples said, "Naren, you are insulting Ramakrishna. You always ignore Ramakrishna, calling him mad and all that." But Ramakrishna immediately took Naren's rebuke seriously for he was, after all, a serious student of Western philosophy, Eastern philosophy, the Indian scriptures, etc. So he went and told his Divine Mother, Kali, what Naren had said if that is True ! Mother Kali told him, "No, you are not running after Naren. You are running after the Divinity that you see in Naren. It is for that you are running. But that Divinity will express itself only in years to come." So Ramakrishna went back to Naren and said, "It is not you that I want; it is the Divinity inside you."

I bow down to the people of Uttar Pradesh. They have given 73 seats for the welfare of India. As many of my friends know, from my childhood, I had great respect and passion for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The so called literate and arrogant people defame them, but I just ignore them. There is no other place in the world where people are so religious. They have the greatest respect for our ancient culture and tradition. Many of my friends know that the reason I have come to IIT Kanpur is that it is situated in Uttar Pradesh- this sacred land of Ramchandra, Sri Krishna,... the playground of Child Gopal. academics is NOT the ONLY reason. And of course, after coming to IIT Kanpur, I feel the same. Swami Vivekananda spent most of the time here while travelling accross India as a mendicant monk. "Arise! awake! And stop not till the goal is reached."- Swami Vivekananda
No impure soul can be really religious. Purity in thought, speech, and act is absolutely necessary for any one to be religious. As to the thirst after knowledge, it is an old law that we all get whatever we want. None of us can get anything other than what we fix our hearts upon. To pant for religion truly is a very difficult thing, not at all so easy as we generally imagine. Hearing religious talks or reading religious books is no proof yet of a real want felt in the heart; there must be a continuous struggle, a constant fight, an unremitting grappling with our lower nature, till the higher want is actually felt and the victory is achieved. It is not a question of one or two days, of years, or of lives; the struggle may have to go on for hundreds of lifetimes. The success sometimes may come immediately, but we must be ready to wait patiently even for what may look like an infinite length of time. The student who sets out with such a spirit of perseverance will surely find success and realisation at last. ...
This is a video from Swami Vivekananda Subharti University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. Yes this is India where Kashmiri students are celebrating victory of Pakistan over India in a cricket match. The noise you hear is a mixed bag of "Pakistan zindabad" and "allahu Akbar". What kind of Indians are they ? Do you really expect these guys to stand for our nation? Here they are, the separatists. They feed off our national wealth and use it to support our enemy nation and the terrorists they send to kill our soldiers. What you see and hear in this video is a clear proof of the fact that this nation needs to address this problem in a stern manner. Read this if you're still confused:
Strength is life, weakness is death. Strength is felicity, life is eternal, immortal; weakness is constant strain and misery; weakness is death.---Swami Vivekananda
Swami Vivekananda We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act. Men generally lay all the blame of life on their fellowmen, or failing that, on God, or they conjure up a ghost, and say it is fate. Where is fate and who is fate? We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else has the blame, none has the praise. The wind is blowing; those vessels whose sails are unfurled catch it, and go forward on their way, but those who have their sails furled do not catch the wind. Is that the fault of the wind? Say, "This misery that I am suffering is of my own doing, and that very thing proves that it will have to be undone by me alone." That which I created, I can demolish; that which is created by someone else, I shall never be able to destroy. The ...

The Great Speech by Swami Vivekananda At the World's Parliament of Religions, Chicago 11th September, 1893 I will tell you a little story. You have heard the eloquent speaker who has just finished say, "Let us cease from abusing each other," and he was very sorry that there should be always so much variance. But I think I should tell you a story which would illustrate the cause of this variance. A frog lived in a well. It had lived there for a long time. It was born there and brought up there, and yet was a little, small frog. Of course the evolutionists were not there then to tell us whether the frog lost its eyes or not, but, for our story's sake, we must take it for granted that it had its eyes, and that it every day cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists. In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. Well, one day another frog that lived in the sea came and fell into the well. "Where are you from?" ...

Just wondering - Bengal gave us many nationalists such as Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Netaji Bose, BJP founder member Shyama Prasad Mukharji...who all inspired us immensely for nationalism... and it also gave us many ''intellectual liberals'' such as Sagarika, Arundhati, Barkha, Nandita, Pritish Nandi, Amrtya Sen... to name a few What was god thinking of - a balancing act.
Narendra Modi, the man who used to sell tea at Vadnagar Railway station in Gujarat, is all set to become the 14th Prime Minister of India. The journey of Narendra Modi from ‘Vadnagar’ to the likely occupant of 7, Race Course Road has been truly remarkable. Modi has seen many ups and downs in his life and career. Before taking over as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, Modi was a purely organizational man who had never contested any elections. But once he was anointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, there was no looking back for Modi and he won three state elections in a row. Nobody can explain what exactly makes him so popular among hoi-polloi. At the same time, he is widely known as a person who wears his heart on his sleeves. Even his opponents admire him for his bold and fearless stand on sensitive issues that can dent his carefully crafted image of a no-nonsense man. No other Chief Minister in India evokes as much hatred as Narendra Modi but at the same time no other Chief Minister commands as . ...
Hindu Religion does not consist in struggle and attempts to believe a certain doctrine or dogma, but in realizing not in believing ,but in being and becoming. -Swami Vivekananda :)
Each Work has to Pass through these Stages-Ridicule, Opposition, and then Acceptance. Those who think ahead of their Time are sure to be Misunderstood. -Swami Vivekananda.
If faith in ourselves had been more extensively taught and practiced, I am sure a very large portion of the evils and miseries that we have would have vanished. ~ Swami Vivekananda
Behind my hard work and success are due to inspiration from Swami Vivekananda and Narendra Modi . My slogan - Go ahead don't look back. I got message from Modi for our conference which was grand success.
An All India Youth Convention was organised by Ramakrishna Mission at Belur Math as a part of its centenary celebration (Ramakrishna Mission was started in 1897 by Swami Vivekananda)on 3 and 4 February, 1898 in which more than ten thousand youths participated.I was in the panel during the question-answer question. An interesting question came up - "We, the youths have great regard and confidence in the monks of Ramakrishna Mission, the condition of the nation is pathetic, why the monks of Ramakrishna Mission are not coming forward to join Politics and occupy important positions and bring about transformation in the country?"I replied - " Thank you for the compliments, but we can not enter Politics because Swami Vivekananda who started Ramakrishna Mission, said that it was purely a spiritual organisation and the members of this organisation will have nothing to do with Politics, even Sister Nivedita (Miss Margaret Nobel) had to resign because of her active participation in Freedom Moment. But that does not ...

Be perfectly resigned, perfectly unconcerned; then alone can you do any true work. No eyes can see the real forces; we can only see the results. Put out self, forget it; just let God work, it is His business. -Swami Vivekananda

""Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and everything shall be added unto you." This is the one great duty, this is renunciation. Live for an ideal, and leave no place in the mind for anything else. Let us put forth all our energies to acquire that which never fails -our spiritual perfection. If we have true yearning for realization, we must struggle, and through struggle growth will come. We shall make mistakes, but they may be angels unawares." "The Vedanta recognizes no sin it only recognizes error. And the greatest error, says the Vedanta is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, a miserable creature, and that you have no power and you cannot do this and that." "Never say, "O Lord, I am a miserable sinner." Who will help you? You are the help of the universe. What in this universe can help you? What can prevail over you? You are the God of the universe; where can you seek for help? Never help came from anywhere but from yourself. In your ignorance, every prayer that you made and that was answer ...

When Swami Vivekananda went to U.S.A., a lady asked him to marry her. When Swami asked the lady about what made her ask him such question. The lady replied that she was fascinated by his intellect. She wanted a child of such an intellect. So, she asked Swami, whether he could marry her and give a child like him. He said to that lady, that since she was attracted only by his intellect, there is no problem. My dear lady, I understand your desire. Marrying and bringing a child in to this world and understanding whether it is intelligent or not takes very long time. More over it is not guaranteed. Instead, to fulfill your desire immediately, I can suggest a guaranteed way. Take me as your child. You are my mother. Now your desire of having a child of my intellect is fulfilled. The lady was speechless. Great thinking.
"This universe is the wreckage of the infinite on the shores of the finite."- Swami Vivekananda
When everything seems to stand against you, when the ground under feet seems fast eroding, there comes a magic word from Swami Vivekananda that gives a cyclonic push to the soul and suddenly you start laughing at the crisis saying, "what folly ! When was I weak and helpless ? Isn't divinity playing trick with me ? In presence of ever acting Divinity, who cares for sparrow's fall ?" And you realize that, by thinking of yourself as weak & helpless, you were dangerously self-hypnotizing yourself !!!
“ Shivaji was the greatest Hindu king that India had produced within the last thousand years; one who was the very incarnation of lord Siva, about whom prophecies were given out long before he was born; and his advent was eagerly expected by all the great souls and saints of Maharashtra as the deliverer of the Hindus from the hands of the Mlecchas, and as one who succeeded in the reestablishment of Dharma which had been trampled under foot by the depredations of the devastating hordes of the Moghals”… Swami Vivekananda
I am surprised to hear BJP's interpretation of the word 'Secularism ' . They are trying to explain the word 'Secularism' as 'Adharma' i.e. lack of religion . I don't quite know which dictionary they fallow. They demand themselves to be the followers of Swami Vivekananda but unfortunately they don't believe or don't want to accept Vivekananda's concept of 'Secularism' - " As different streams having different sources all mingle their waters in the sea, so different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to God." 'Hindutwa' is a term coined by BJP , which they try to hold up as the synonym of Hinduism . But Hindutwa is actually an idea to use Hindu sentiment as a weapon of political gain . In the same fashion they are trying to confuse Narendra Modi with Narendranath Dutta . They are trying to confuse RamdevJi with Swamiji . It is a tragedy or bad luck that today we are to take lesson on Hinduism from BJP .
Dear friends, elders, I bow down to all of you for bringing this historic change in India. Feel proud that it is you who have contributed for vibrant India. But of course, your duties have not come to an end. "Sabka sath sabka vikash"- this is the art of democracy. So please join hands with the government of India.. click on the following link and participate in this project : "rebuild India." Vivekananda's blessings are always with you. You have already become a soldier of him. now march on! I owe a lot to Indranuj da, who has made me aware of this.
My views on Obama's invitation to Modi, and let there be a debate. To start with let me be clear, as a follower of Sri Aurobondo and Swami Vivekananda, I strongly believe that the future of the world lies in the alliance of India and USA. They are natural allies and destined partners in the future of New world order. But, Many of my friends and family members believe that Modi, if he is a true nationalist should not allow his EGO to come in the way of having good relations with America and patch up for the good of the Nation. My views are if Modi is a true Nationalist then he should not even perceive it as a rejection of his visa, but an insult to the very democratic fiber of India as a nation, an insult to the entire nation and its people, an insult to the entire judiciary system of a largest democracy. Its the same disregard for the judiciary that made them lift the family of the maid of a Deviyani Khobragade. All is not kosher just because he is personally invited by white house. Whitehouse has to come ...
A few things you may or may not know about India's future Prime Minister (excuse the grammar, not mine). Some are interesting, some are silly. Not sure how much fact, how much fiction: 1. Vadnagar, an ancient city that’s almost 2,500 years old, is Narendra Damordas Mulchand Modi’s birthplace. Indians strongly identify themselves with their janambhoomi, and Modi is no different. He likes the Hatkeswar Mahadeo temple, built in the 15th century, in his village. His birthplace is unique in that it saw both Hinduism and Buddhism flourish. It is also a highly cultured town that is famous for singer-duo Tana and Riri who stumped none other than the legendary Tansen in the Mughal king Akbar’s durbar. Vadnagar was once the capital of Gujarat and has a proud place in history also because the Chinese scholar Hsüan-tsang visited it during his 17-year journey through India in the seventh century and has narrated Vadnagar in detail in his fascinating memoirs. 2. Modi was born on September 17, 1950. He makes it a ...
Unlike many Indian politicians, though, Modi doesn’t put his faith on display. There are no religious icons in his office; the only adornments are two statues of his hero, the philosopher Swami Vivekananda. Everything about Modi and his surroundings is carefully manicured and controlled. He gives the impression of an autodidact who has methodically plotted his journey from small-town boy to CEO of Gujarat. A key message is that he is a self-made man, succeeding without family connections or fancy education, and his appeal is obvious in a nation of strivers." Jyoti Thottam 26.3.2012 - Time Magazine.

Pride of India summed up by SV - If there is any land on this earth that can lay claim to be the blessed Punyabhumi, to be the land to which all souls on this earth must come to account for their Karma, the land to which every soul wending its way godward must come to attain its last home, the land where humanity has attained its highest towards gentleness, towards generosity, towards purity, towards calmness, above all, the land of introspection & sprituality,.it is India! - Swami Vivekananda I feel India can return back to her elements of spirituality. Congress never had this sort of vision for India. Now that we all have removed congress from power, India can resume its path on being the spiritual capital of the world and return back to its glory of richness as in the past supporting one and all, all around the world in the quest of understanding where we come from, what are we doing here on earth & how we can transcend into the higher plane of divinity and spread the fragrance of divinity around the . ...
Dear Narendra Modi ji, Namaskar. People are celebrating victory of democracy across India and your party is also celebrating. You said now elections are over and it is time to work. We Indians feel that you are the ONLY "ray of hope" for India and hence elected you with this thumping majority to your party. However, we are worried that the government may be paralyzed if you & your MPs focus on getting power in 4-5 states which will go for elections in next 6 months. In addition to these turmoil in Bihar and Delhi governments. Added to these you do not have opposition - No other party got 10% total seats in parliament to be in opposition. Following attributes of yours are the reason for this victory with high responsibility. 1. CEO like working style : You worked as CEO of Gujarat rather than CM and managed campaign also like CEO. This is the main reason for people electing some of the corrupt leaders from your party as MPs. 2. Respect for legal and constitutional bodies: You started talking about seva to ...

The protracted, arduous journey of Hindu Nationalism for more than a century originating from the pen and lofty aspirations of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, through the Uttarpara Speech of Aurodindo Ghosh, fiery speeches and acts of Swami Dayanada Swraswati , Swami Vivekananda, Swami Pranabanada ji, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, Lala Lajpat Rai, Pandit Madan Mohan Malavya, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Dr. Hedgewar, Sri Golwalkar, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, Balasaheb Thackeray reaches the second stage of evolution with the ascension of Nardendra Modi to the Prime Minister of India. 5 years is not a long duration and to history it is not worth to an eyelid even. The first time Narendra Modi publicly entered 7, Race Course Road, Delhi, was on August 18, 2001. He was then based inDelhi as BJP's national general secretaryand was there to launch his biography onLakshmanrao Inamdar, his mentor in RSS. In Setubandh, Modi compared Inamdar, who passed away in 1984, to the mythical bridge Lord Ram built to Sri Lanka. Then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee burnished his credentials as the first RSS pracharak-turned-PM by paying a glowing tribute to the veteran Sangh worker. Over a decade later, Modi jets across the country, addressing whirlwind rallies, perhaps eager for a chance to thank his mentor again from the Prime Minister's residence.Master and protegeThe Modi narrative is a singular one. The stubborn, strong-willed son of a tea-vendor, Damodardas Modi, from Gujarat's Vadnagar town who, by sheer hard work and dedication, rises through RSS and then, within BJP. When people said Mr. Modi is a polarizing figure, I said that it's the case with all the great leaders. Any leader - be he/she a Spiritual giant, a politician or a businessman or even a social activist for that matter - they are all polarizing figures. Look at Buddha, look at Swami Vivekananda, look at Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Anna Hazare etc. What they did? They draw people unto themselves. you can't help it. We may not like polarization but people always rally behind a leader. It has been the history of mankind.
I had a debate with a Brahman, and he said people like Swami Vivekananda (original name Narendra Nath Dutt) was born in a Kaesto (a caste lower than Brahman) family by mistake. He was supposed to be born in a Brahman family. I don't know whether or not the message was conveyed to him by any angel or any demon. I could not finish the list of non-Brahman maestros before he left: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Prof Satyen Bose, Satyajit Roy, Partha Pratim Majumder, Jibananda Dash, Amartya Sen, Master da Surjo Sen, Charan Kobi Mukundo Das, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Dr Bidhan Roy. All men are created equal. We no longer live in the middle age or any other age of discrimination.
No man should be judged by his defects never forget the glory of human nature. Swami Vivekananda

Preface Subhash Chandra Bose was one of India's greatest freedom fighter. He was the founder of the Indian National Army, popularly known as 'Azad Hind Fauj'. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had visited London during pre-independence period to discuss the future of India, with the members of the Labor party. His sudden disappearance from Taiwan, led to surfacing of various theories, concerning the possibilities of his survival. Life of Subhash Chandra Bose Subhash Chandra Bose was born on 23 January, 1897 in Cuttack (Orissa) to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi. Janakinath Bose was one of the successful lawyer in Cuttack and received the title of "Rai Bahadur". He, later became a member of the Bengal Legislative Council. A comment by Madan Mitra today has shocked me . He described Mamata Banerjee as " reincarnation of Maa Sharadha . " Maa Sharadha was the guiding spirit behind Swami Vivekananda . She is held in the highest esteem by millions of people across the world. Madan Mitra's statement is highly deplorable & shocking . Demand unconditional apology from the TMC leadership and strictest action against Madan Mitra .
THE DEBRIEF VIDEO: SWAMI YUKTATMANANDA participates in the NBC show The DeBrief with David Ushery. The Christmas Day roundtable interfaith discussion by a panel of religious leaders covered a range of issues. Swami Yuktatmananda focused attention on true spiritual values, as lived and taught by Swami Vivekananda and his Master, Sri Ramakrishna. The show aired in New York on Sunday, Dec. 25 on WNBC Channel 4. See full interview at
Some similarities: Today, finished reading short book on "story of Swami Vivekananda". This reminds me that some behaviors of mine seems to be in line with Vivekananda, i.e. Questioning/trying to find logic for everything. While my wife Vasundhara's behavior seems to be that of Sri Ramakrishna, ie, accept the facts as is ( spiritual thinking and not logical). Moreover, another interesting fact is, I was born on 13Jan ( a day after Vivekananda jayanti) and wife on 18Feb, same day as Sri Ramakrishna jayanti) :-)

Let us pay our homage to The Jagadguru by Remembering our True-nature- 'Tattvamasi'( Thou art That)! |" Brahma satyam Jaganmithya; Jivo Brahmaiva naaparah"| Let us, also, pay due respect to Our Gurus like Swami Vivekananda, Ramana Maharshi, Sw Sivananda ...Etc, who have preserved his tradition, on this auspicious day. "SATYAMEBA JAYATE" "Cinema, Theater etc be not only a part of entertainment but also the people of our society are made conscious through them. Most of all great men like Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas, Vishwakabi Rabindranath, Vidrohikabi Nazrul etc were dishonoured and also reviled by a front of some political parties in Bengal for 35 yrs. The great legendary Indian politician respected Ms. Mamata Banerjee has broken that immoral tradition made by them (front) and has given appropriate honour and love to all Indian great men irrespective to their parties & opinions. In Indian 16th Parliament Election, we, the Maa-Mati-Manush of Bengal, have observed that the so-called Front-Leaders have been unable to come out from their these types of narrow thinking. As for example, All India Trinamool Congress has selected near about one-forth candidate from various professions(who were not involved or semi-involved with politics) in Bengal for Indian 16th Lok Sabha Election. But, the Front-Leaders have neglected, ...

Swami Vivekananda ...These old people were all messengers of God. I fall down and worship them; I take the dust of their feet. But they are dead! ... And we are alive. We must go ahead! ... Religion is not an imitation of Jesus or Mohammed. Even if an imitation is good, it is never genuine. Be not an imitation of Jesus, but be Jesus, You are quite as great as Jesus, Buddha, or anybody else. If we are not ... we must struggle and be. I would not be exactly like Jesus. It is unnecessary that I should be born a Jew. ... The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature. Have faith in yourselves! If you do not exist, how can God exist, or anybody else? Wherever you are, it is this mind that perceives even the Infinite. I see God, therefore He exists. If I cannot think of God, He does not exist [for me]. contrary to what you may be tempted to assume, that brahmins and kshatriyas always work hand in glove, the kshatriyas had repeatedly revolted against egregious brahminic legislations in the vedic era (Buddha was kshatriya by birth as was Swami Vivekananda), Babasaheb counted no less than 8 major revolutionary purges led by kshatriyas. the Basus of Bengal are known to have a crazy streak, I can't tell you how perfectly Uttam Kumar nailed it in 'Basu Parivar' from 1944
BJP’s Hindutva has nothing to do with Hindu religion per se We have also shown in details in our previous articles that Hindutva preached by the RSS-BJP has nothing to do with Hinduism. It simply reeks of gore inciting communal hatred against the religious minorities. But now when power is beckoning them, the wolves are wearing sheep’s clothes. Though the RSS has all along skirted any proximity to Vivekananda and his teachings lest that should blunt their politics of spitting venom, persecution and killing, the BJP leadership has been having Swami Vivekananda on its lips, as if the Hindutva preached by them is what Vivekananda stood for. This is not just a lie but indulgence in criminality. Everyone knows that Vivekananda was a believer in monotheist Vedanta and his thought process was guided in accordance therewith. His preaching of Hindu religion was not from the perspective of any fanaticism or inciting communal passion or spreading disaffection towards other religions. He honestly believed that Ve ...
Plaque in the Chicago Arts Institute, where Swami Vivekananda delivered a famous speech on 9/11/1893:
Near the Friends United Club and Vivekananda's ancestral house, is Shimla Byayam Samiti, once controlled by Anushilan Samiti. It grew as an akhara of the young revolutionaries of Agniyug. Its founder ATINDRA NATH BASU was famous in boro lathi-khela, the tradition of which was continued by his son Amar Basu till late 1960's. After that it became a centre of political rivalry. But some of its traditions still survives in one form or the other. For example, the Durga Puja, started by Atindra Nath himself and Birastami, started by Sarala Devi. Other attractions include a 400 years old Bajrangbali statue, in front of which the wrestlers used to take oath before fighting the British officers. The old akhara is no more, now transformed into a gym. One of the frequent visitors of Agniyug was Mahendra Nath Dutta, the brother of Swami Vivekananda, as well as Tarak Nath Das. Swami Vivekanda Milan Mela, organised by Vivekananda Pathachakra, in January, is a humble effort to restore its lost glory. With the end of Agn ...

Modi has done great sacrifice like Gautam Budha and Swami Vivekananda to serve the country & Rahul and congress are doing blunders
My letter to TOI which they noted 'was inappropriate for publishing' on their lead story of RSS growth due to Modi wave - The sticky eye catching value of your P1 story is fantastic, but as an insider and a person who has written a book 'Secrets of RSS' after years of observations, let me tell you that it is nothing more than an easy attempt at catching readers' fancy. RSS shakhas don't 'sprout' so easily. You require committed a couple of workers who will stand there every day and collect people to attend it. It takes years of painstaking efforts to 'create' such a worker who will open a shakha. Shakhas have grown over years steadliy in slow manner because of nature of work and not sprouted overnight as you guess. If at all, one has to find reason for this upsurge it lies in huge ground work done during Swami Vivekananda's 150 year celebrations when RSS reached out to each and every cross section of Indian society. It undertook massive mobilization drives. That year saw huge rallies and camps across Indi ...
Swami Vivekananda on Islam : (Famous Philosopher and Preacher of modern India, Founder of Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math) Taught Love and Equality "The Hindus may get the credit of arriving at it earlier than other races, they being an older race than either the Hebrew or the Arab; yet practical Advaitism, which looks upon and behaves to all mankind as one's own soul, was never developed among the Hindus universally. On the other hand, my experience is that if ever any religion approached to this equality in an appreciable manner, it is Islam and Islam alone. Therefore I am firmly persuaded that without the help of practical Islam, theories of Vedantism, however fine and wonderful they may be, are entirely valueless to the vast mass of mankind." "(Islam) came as a message for the masses. The first message was equality. There is one religion - love. No more question of race, colour, (or) anything else. Join it! That practical quality carried the day. The great message was perfectly simple. Believ ...
Dr. Subramanian Swamy After years of silence, NaMo declared he was a married man & his wife is Jasodaben. Marriage was forced on a teenaged Narendra, however he left home in response to an inner call to work for the nation inspired by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and martyrs like Bhagat Singh. Though he was silent on the issue, he never lied about it. Jasodaben also has no grievances against him, Modi helped in her education and she is nowa teacher. She is on pilgrimage to pray for Modi. Hats off to Narendra Modi.History will remember that there was a man who loved his Motherland more than himself, his family and his life. The silent selfless sacrifice of this Holy Couple cannot be understood by cheap minded communists and paid media which has no patriotism within them. Understand his sacrifice, the way he gave up his worldly pleasures & life in service of the motherland. Swami Vivekananda, Gautam Buddha, Kabir and Lao Tzu - Great personalities and I love to read about them and their teachings.
Cannot understand that charge against NaMo that he abandoned his family .. By the same yardstick 1) Swami Vivekananda left his poor mother and sister for the sake of our nation 2) Gautam Buddha 'abandoned' his wife and kids to preach humanism to the world 3) Mahavira left his family for spiritual awakening 4) Many theories claim that Jesus Christ had a family which was never acknowledged. I will not get into the relationships of Einstein, Gandhi, Churchill and many others with their spouses. NaMo is the victim here who like many in India was forced into a marriage by his family when he was a kid. The relationship ended with dignity and grace.
Early morning electoral exercise. Download the manifesto of the Left, the AAP, the BJP and the Congress. Read. Run a word search for 'AFSPA' and Sec 377. Be amazed to note that BJP and Congress do not mention them, AAP talks aggressively about the problems of AFSPA and the Left talks about both the issues. Judging from the Manifestos alone, the AAP and the CPIM are at least two levels above the BJP and the UPA in good governance, who simply use rhetoric in their manifesto. Mandir, Ban on Beef, Bullet trains, Public wi-fi, broadband in villages, employment, Gujarat Gujarat Gujarat, great designing, formatting errors, Modi smiling, saffron saffron saffron, a green corner, quotes of Mandela and Swami Vivekananda and National modernization of Madrasas- kya baat hai. That is what it is all about. Same old 'we will start Rajiv Gandhi XYZ plan' and nothing really substantial. Such a brilliant one. Swami Vivekananda about Brahmin THE FUTURE OF INDIA Volume 3, Lectures from Colombo to Almora The Brahminhood is the ideal of humanity in India, as wonderfully put forward by Shankaracharya at the beginning of his commentary on the Gitâ, where he speaks about the reason for Krishna's coming as a preacher for the preservation of Brahminhood, of Brahminness. It is the duty of the Brahmin, therefore, to work for the salvation of the rest of mankind in India. If he does that, and so long as he does that, he is a Brahmin, but he is no Brahmin when he goes about making money. You on the other hand should give help only to the real Brahmin who deserves it; that leads to heaven. But sometimes a gift to another person who does not deserve it leads to the other place, says our scripture. You must be on your guard about that. He only is the Brahmin who has no secular employment. Secular employment is not for the Brahmin but for the other castes. To the Brahmins I appeal, that they must work hard to raise the Indian ...

The Story of the Birth of The Indian Institute of Science Swami Vivekananda - Where Hi Tech met Hi Touch Posted by Prof. KCR Raja In 1893, in a boat that sailed from Yokohama to Vancouver, two great Indians, one, a monk and the other, an industrialist met for the first time. The monk was Swami Vivekananda, who was to take and interpret to the West, more effectively than anyone else, the religious and philosophical traditions of India. The industrialist was Jamshedji Tata, the father of Indian industry. As they got talking, Vivekananda explained his mission of preaching in the US, the universality of all religions. Jamshedji said he was in search of equipment and technology that would build the steel industry and make India a strong industrial Nation. Vivekananda blessed Jamshedji, and remarked “How wonderful it would be if we could combine the scientific and technological achievements of the West with the asceticism and humanism of India!” They never met after that journey. But these words struck a c ...

Please read The Great Hindu Monk understanding on and His analysis about Islam. “Now, the Muslims are the crudest in this respect, and the most sectarian. Their watch-word is: there is one God (Allah), and Mohammed is His Prophet. Everything beyond that not only is bad, but must be destroyed forthwith, at a moment’s notice, everyman or woman who does not exactly believe in that must be killed; everything that does not belong to this worship must be immediately broken; every book that teaches anything else must be burnt. Education is not only for getting job, but for making better society, better nation, being human-Swami Vivekananda told by Bodhamayananda
"Each thought has two parts--the thinking and the word, and we must have both. Neither idealists nor materialists are right. We must take both idea and expression." ~ Swami Vivekananda, from Retreat given at the Thousand Island Park, USA. June 30, 1895. Complete Works, 7. 21.
Swami Vivekananda said that a bird cannot fly with only one wing, similarly a nation can not develop without development of women, he also said that women power will rise in India after the advent of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi , the Divine Mother of the Universe resides in all women according to Durgasaptashati, hence all women should be respected according to Sri Ramakrishna. The best way to celebrate International Women's day is to offer our salutations to the Divine Mother residing in all women and to be proactive as regards education of the women and rights of the women
Swami Vivekananda considered Sita as the ideal Indian woman. He also told, "The ideal womanhood of India is motherhood— that marvellous, unselfish, all suffering, ever-forgiving mother."
the Holy Mother represents the ideal of contemporary womanhood, the perfect example of fully awakened, fully illumined Shakti power. As Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda removed the veils of weakness and ignorance covering the minds of human beings everywhere, the Holy Mother opened the floodgates for divine feminine expression showing a way to liberation and acting as an example for women the world over to follow. In Her is seen the exquisitely balanced blend of power and modesty, strength and humility, detachment and compassion, purity and practicality. By accepting Her as the ultimate standard for the women of contemporary times, immaculate Shakti power will emerge and homes, families, schools, workplaces and spiritual centers will again become pure and divinized. Happy women's day
A true Christian is warm-hearted, turns into Mother Teresa. A true Hindu is a deep-thinker, like Swami Vivekananda. A true Jew contributes great things to society, like Paul Ehrlich. A true Buddhist propagates the message of peace, like Buddha. A true Sikh is brave, and fights for truth, turns into Guru Nanak. A true Muslim follows the Qur'an, practises Jihad and will "cast fear in the hearts of disbelievers.", and turns into Osama Bin Laden.
President of India's message on the occasion of international women's day The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in his message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, which is observed every year on March 8, has said: - “On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, I extend warm greetings and good wishes to women in all parts of our country. I thank them for their invaluable contribution in the making of our great nation. Women in India have attained greatness through the ages – in political, academic and spiritual spheres. They enjoyed freedom and equal participation in public life in ancient India. In the Rig Veda, women are placed at the highest pedestal – ‘Yatr nariyastu poojayante ramante tatr devah’ or where women are worshipped, Gods preside there. The Taittriya Upanishad teaches us ‘Matridevo bhava’ or ‘Let your mother be God to you’. Swami Vivekananda rightly said, “All nations have attained greatness by paying proper respect to women. That country and t ...
Anna Hazare has once said about Arvind Kejriwal, "we worked good together. He was like my Hanuman". Anna is religiously right-winger and see how matter-of-factly believes in feudal idea of discrimination! To him he is elder, so virtuous commander and Kejriwal is younger - so a foot soldier, a servant!! (while in reality Anna served Kejriwal in his grand design of political power.) I call this right wing philosophy, because all Hindutva people are comfortable with this idea of master & servant. Even Vivekanada. Refer to this assertion by Jyotirmaya Sharma (an academic, political science) that Swami Vivekananda created the foundational basis for political Hindutva. Jyotirmaya says "He (vivekanand) was against untouchability. But he was also a radically empathetic proponent of re-establishing the caste system. In his conversation with a disciple, he says the Dalits should be taught the Bhagwat Gita and Sanskrit so that they learn to respect Brahmins and the upper castes better. The disciple asks, what if the ...

DEFINITIONS Since time immemorial, education is estimated as the right road to progress and prosperity. Different educationists’ thoughts from both Eastern and Western side have explained the term ‘ education’ according to the need of the hour. Various educationists have given their views on education. Some important definitions are: 1. Mahatma Gandhi – “By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in man – body, mind and spirit.” 2. Rabindranath Tagore – “Education enables the mind to find out the ultimate truth, which gives us the wealth of inner light and love and gives significance to life.” 3. Dr. Zakir Husain – “ Education is the process of the individual mind, getting to its full possible development.” 4. Swami Vivekananda – “ Education is the manifestation of divine perfection already existing in man.” 5. Aristotle - “Education is the creation of sound mind in a sound body.” 6. Rousseau - “ Education is the child’s development from within.” 7. ...
Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata organised a fabulous session titled ‘Sri Ramakrishna and the all time favourite Bengali songs’ which was compiled, anchored and sung by the Eminent Singer Sri Debasish Dutta. This was performed in presence of the Head of the Math, Srimat Swami Purnatmanandaji Maharaj, at the very Holy place where Swami Vivekananda was born. It was a well researched programme on the history and evolution of the very foundation of the 19th century devotional songs and how that helped in carving a niche in the society. The clarion call of Bengali literature actually began with songs like ‘Baishnab Padaboli kirtan’ etc. He emphasized the pivotal contribution of Sri Ramakrishna and the usage of these songs for education and spiritual upliftment of the masses. Sri Dutta shared some of the statistics which he gathered meticulously from various sources which is a ready reckoner to all of us: Sri Ramakrishna sang close to 182 songs. In . ...
Reminiscences of Swami : Ida Ansell = In the morning classes we were studying Swami Vivekananda's Raja-Yoga (it had been published in New York during his earlier visit to the West) when the Swami, then in Los Angeles, accepted an invitation from Rev. B. Fay Mills to give some lectures in the First Unitarian Church in Oakland. There I went with Miss Bell and other friends, early in February 1900, and we were startled and astonished at what we heard, amazed and enraptured at the Swami's appearance. He was surely a Mahatma or a divine being, more than human. No one had ever been so sublimely eloquent or so deliciously humorous, such an entrancing story-teller, or such a perfect mimic. When I saw and heard him and thought of the interpretation we had been given of the civilization that had produced him, I felt almost ashamed that I was an American. I went to most of his lectures with Miss Bell and to some with other friends and met the same glowing enthusiasm in all, though with some it was the man rather tha ...

Ennappadam Venkatraman Sundaram Articles about Art, Music, Poetry, Literature, Biography and Book reviews Friday, May 7, 2010 SRI RAM SWARUP - A FEARLESS INTELLECTUAL SEER OF MODERN HINDU INDIA V SUNDARAM I.A.S Sri Ram Swarup(1920-1998) Sri Ram Swarup (1920-1998) is perhaps the greatest Hindu intellectual of post-independent India. His most outstanding disciple was Sita Ram Goel, an 'Intellectual Kshatriya'. The intellectual and emotional relationship that existed between them for more than five decades is a glorious chapter in the history of Hindu revival after 1947. The intellectual relationship between these two great men was similar to the spiritual relationship between Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda in the latter half of the 19th century and the Hindutva relationship between Dr Hedgewar and Sri Guruji Golwalkar in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century. Sita Ram Goel often used to acknowledge the fact that he came back to the fold of Hinduism from the concentration camp of communism only ...

Further information: Purulia arms drop case Purulia entered the news in December 1995, when a Latvian aircraft dropped a consignment of arms in its vicinity. Several days later, when the plane re-entered Indian airspace, it was intercepted by a Mig21 of the Indian Air Force, and its crew were captured. It was believed that the arms were intended for the Hindu cult Anand Marg ("Happy Path"), but proof of this could not be established. The crew of the aircraft consisted of five Latvian citizens and Peter Bleach, a British citizen. They were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. Following the intervention of Russian authorities, the Latvian crew (ethnic Russians) were pardoned and released in 2000. Swamiji’s Contributions to India:: In spite of her innumerable linguistic, ethnic, historical and regional diversities, India has had from time immemorial a strong sense of cultural unity. It was, however, Swami Vivekananda who revealed the true foundations of this culture and thus clearly defined and strengthened the sense of unity as a nation. Swamiji gave Indians proper understanding of their country’s great spiritual heritage and thus gave them pride in their past. Furthermore, he pointed out to Indians the drawbacks of Western culture and the need for India’s contribution to overcome these drawbacks. In this way Swamiji made India a nation with a global mission. Sense of unity, pride in the past, sense of mission – these were the factors which gave real strength and purpose to India’s nationalist movement. Several eminent leaders of India’s freedom movement have acknowledged their indebtedness to Swamiji. Free India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru wrote: “Rooted in the past, f ...

Read 'an Indian Pilgrim', unfinished auto-biography of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. It was written during 1937 timeframe (When Netaji was president of Congress). He wrote his story only till he completed his ICS exam. It is nice to know his childhood memories & stories. Author explains well his inner war on the thoughts of spirituality, trying to get the meaning for his life. Interesting to know how reading Swami Vivekananda can guide people in the right direction, clearing their long haunting doubts :). People interesting to read this book, please get the one from Jayashree Publications only. It is unedited version of what Netaji had written. Other publishers are selling edited versions, which may mask the thinkings of Netaji.

NOT-TO-BE FORGOTTEN HERO Sadly, Netaji Subhas Bose remains sidelined Marginalised by establishment historians, Subhas Chandra Bose was undoubtedly one of modern India's tallest leaders. His contribution to the country's independence struggle was unparalleled, his role in firming the foundations of a young nation-state unmatched. Yet, few meaningfully remember him, even on his birth anniversary — which fell on Thursday. Fewer still have any understanding of his life's work that was defined by the principles of spiritual nationalism as enunciated by Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo. Netaji, as he was known to his followers, once inspired an entire people to rise against oppression and foreign rule, and yet today he hardly commands space more than a few paragraphs in our history text books. Occasionally, conspiracy theories relating to his death in mysterious circumstances make it to the inside pages of our newspapers but for the most part, his memory has been relegated to yellowing framed pictures in B ...

151 years ago on this day Narendranath Dutta later known as Swami Vivekananda was born. The logo of the Ramakrishna Mission was conceived by him. The ocean ripples symbolise the chitta or mind stuff. By controlling our mind we practice Karma Yoga. The lotus represents Bhakthi. Complete surrender to God is Bhakthi Yoga. The sun represents Gnana Yoga. Once knowledge dawns our doubts vanish and we realise the Truth. The snake represents Raja Yoga. By controlling all the sense organs oneness is realised and there is nothing called second. If we practice any one of them or combination or all of them we will have the power of discrimination symbolised by Swan - Anna Pakshi. Swan has the power to separate milk and water! The discrimination is VIVEKA & VAIRAGYA. These are the 2 wings for us to fly to Moksha! What a grand idea Swamiji had given!

He is the perfect role model for the youth of this country and it is under his banner that the Indian youths can safely march towards their cherished goal holding their head high among the comity of nations _ Swami Vivek ...
