BUHARI: ENEMY OF IBOS When Buhari overthrew the legitimate government of Shehu Shagari, he constituted a Supreme Military Council (SMC) that did not have a military officer of Igbo extraction. Buhari placed President Shehu Shagari, the man at whose desk the buck ended, under house arrest while the vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, an Igbo man, was consigned to Buhari’s gulag at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison But in a curious twist of fate, Buhari’s probe panel not only found Ekwueme clean, it returned the uncommon verdict that the former vice president left office a poorer man than when he started out. Can candidate Buhari explain to the Igbo race why Ekwueme was treated with so underserved disdain and wickedness?

MUHAMMADU BUHARI Born on December 17, 1942 in Katsina state, Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari is a Nigerian politician who served as the military ruler of Nigeria (December 31, 1983 - August 27, 1985). In 1983, Major-General Buhari and Major-General Tunde Idiagbon were selected to lead the country by middle and high- ranking military officers after a successful military coup d'etat that overthrew civilian President Shehu Shagari on December. In 1985, Buhari was himself overthrown in a coup led by General Ibrahim Babangida on August 27th, and other members of the ruling Supreme Military Council (SMC) ostensibly, because he insisted on investigating allegations of fraudulent award of contracts in the Ministry of Defence (Please refer to Gen. Chris Alli's memoir - The Republic of Nigerian Army). Buhari contested the Presidential election as the candidate of the All Nigeria People's Party on 2003. On 18th December 2006, Gen. PHOTO: EARLY 70'S NIGERIAN POLICE WITH THE NOTORIOUS ISHOLA OYENUSI. One of the fall-outs from the Nigerian Civil War that took place from 1967 to 1970, was the exponential rise in criminal activities in the country, especially armed robberies. To check the menace, then Head of State, Maj. General Yakubu Gowon and the Supreme Military Council (SMC), promulgated a decree that was to set the stage for a long list of celebrated executions. The junta came up with Decree 47 of 1970, which prescribed public executions for anyone arrested, prosecuted and found guilty of armed robbery. Following this, the first casualty was in the person of the notorious ‘Dr’ Ishola Oyenusi , who was executed the a year after the decree came into being. Oyenusi’s arrogance was also legendary. In 1971, he was arrested and handcuffed by a police officer. As the policeman was ordering him around, Oyenusi blasted him and thundered: "People like you don’t talk to me like that when I am armed. I gun them down." Another dare-dev ...

Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, Ghana The Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) was the government of Ghana from June 4, 1979 to September 24, 1979. It came to power in a bloody coup that removed the Supreme Military Council, another military regime, from power. The June 4 coup was preceded by an abortive attempt on May 15, 1979 when Flt. Lt. Jerry Rawlings and other ranks were arrested. Their trial only served to make them popular till they were eventually released on the morning of June 4 by young officers and noncommissioned officers inspired by Rawlings. The regime started a 'House cleaning' exercise against corruption. Three former military leaders of Ghana, Lt. Gen. Afrifa , Gen. Acheampong and Lt. Gen. Akuffo were all executed together with five other senior officers [1] deemed to have been corrupt by the special courts set up by the government. [2] Numerous business entrepreneurs were also targeted and unlawfully had their assets confiscated by the AFRC government including J. K. Siaw. The ...

The former chief-of-staff of the so-called Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) Supreme Military Council Salim Idris has called Ahmad Jarba “Syria’s new dictator,” Egyptian daily Youm 7 reported on its website. Idris lashed out at Jarba, the head of the so-called Syrian National Coalition (SNC), in a televised interview. Idris was sacked and replaced by Abd al-Ilah al-Bashir on February 17. The decision to replace the former Syrian general was made after a meeting of FSA’s Supreme Military Council in Turkey. Slamming the Saudi-backed Asaad Mustafa, Idris also said that he did not recognize Asaad Mustafa as the defense minister of the SNC. Syria sank into a foreign-sponsored war in 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states. The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. M.D

Free Syrian Army replaces commander // The head of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Brig. Gen. Salim Idriss has been removed from his post, the Supreme Military Council announced. He is to be replaced by Brig. Gen. Abdul-Ilah Bashir Al-Noeimi, a field commander in southern Syria. Idriss was removed because of setbacks “suffered over the past few months” and due to “difficult circumstances” on the field, the statement read. Idriss has headed the Free Syrian Army for the past 14 months.
New FSA leader appointed: report 16-02-2014: The Free Syrian Army is reportedly set to announce that Brigadier General Abdel Illah al-Bashir, formerly the head of the FSA's Supreme Military Council (SMC), is to be promoted to FSA Chief of Staff, taking over from General Salim Idriss as the commanding officer of the FSA, according to a senior media source within the Syrian interim government in exile.
MURTALA CONTINUED: A NO NONSENSE LEADER The Colonels decided that three of their superior officers: Brigadiers Murtala Muhammed, Olusegun Obasanjo and Theophilus Danjuma would lead the new regime. They explained to the three Brigadiers that decisions of the Supreme Military Council would only be taken with the concurrence of a majority of its members. Murtala immediately objected and insisted that as Head of State, he should be given a free hand to govern unrestricted by his colleagues. After some calming words from Danjuma and Obasanjo, Murtala agreed to the Colonels’ proposal. However, in typically forthright manner, Murtala told the Colonels that once in the hotseat, he would not allow himself to be a stooge of, or be dictated to by, the officers who had got him there. Murtala made it clear that he would be independent, would govern the country as he saw fit and that nobody would push him around. The unspectacular but efficient Brigadier Olusegun Obasanjo (then the Minister of Agriculture) repl ...

Demonstrating yet again the jihadist nature of the so-called Syrian “rebellion” as well as the fracturing command structure the top “rebel” commander, General Selim Idriss, has fled Syria as a result of attacks by the more extreme jihadists of the Islamic Front. According to the Wall Street Journal, TIME, UPI, and a host of other mainstream sources, Idriss fled Syria into Turkey after Islamic Front jihadists overran his weapons warehouses full of US-donated military gear as well as his own headquarters located near the border of Syria and Turkey. From Turkey, Idriss flew to Doha, Qatar. The warehouses were controlled mainly by the Supreme Military Council, the loose umbrella group which contains the FSA. Reports of Idriss’ flight were corroborated by both an anonymous senior U.S. Official and a spokesman for the Islamic Front

Jerry John Rawlings (born 22 June 1947) [3] is a former air force officer and the current African Union envoy to Somalia. Rawlings initially came to power in Ghana following a coup d'état in 1979 and, after initially handing power over to a civilian government, took back control of the country on 31 December 1981, as the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council. He remained in power in this way until 1992, when he resigned from the Armed Forces, founded the National Democratic Congress and became the first president of the Fourth Republic. He was re-elected in 1996 for a further four years. [4] Rawlings initiated his debut coup d'état on 15 May 1979, leading a group of military personnel in a coup attempt on General Fred Akuffo which resulted in him arrested , imprisoned and facing a death sentence. On June 4, soldiers sympathetic to his motivations broke him out of jail, and he led a revolt of both the military and civilians which overthrew General Akuffo and the Supreme Military Council, e ...
The Second Republic (cont) On December 31, 1983, the military overthrew the Second Republic. Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari emerged as the leader of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), the country's ruling body. He accused the civilian government with economic mismanagement, widespread corruption, election fraud, and a general lack of concern for the problems of Nigerians. He also pledged to restore prosperity to Nigeria and to return the government to civilian rule but proved unable to deal with Nigeria's severe economic problems. The Buhari government was peacefully overthrown by the SMC's third-ranking member, Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, in August 1985. Babangida cited the misuse of power, violations of human rights by key officers of the SMC, and the government's failure to deal with the country's deepening economic crisis as justifications for the takeover. During his first few days in office, President Babangida moved to restore freedom of the press and to release political detainee ...

PROMOTING NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT at 53: ABOLISHING REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS WAS A MISTAKE In a nation-wide broadcast on 24 May, 1966, Gen. J. T. U. Aguiyi-Ironsi, Chairman, Supreme Military Council, announced the abolishment of the then existing three Regional Governments of Southern Region, Eastern Region and Northern Region through the promulgation of Military Decree No. 5. By the same Decree, the prefix ‘Federal’ in the name of our country was dispensed of. Our country’s name became simply the “Republic of Nigeria”. In the words of the General, the old Provinces became the administrative units for governance. He concluded his speech by saying, “The provisions of the Decree are intended to remove the last vestiges of the intense regionalism of the recent past, and to produce the cohesion in the governmental structure which is so necessary in achieving and maintaining the paramount objective of the National Military Government, and indeed, every true Nigerian, namely, national unity.” Gowon ended ...
Does the National Association for Gun Rights even have a clue as to why the US is considering supplying small arms to the rebels? And why it is wary? Do you think the National Association for Gun Rights does any background checking itself? Apparently not: NPR: " There is meetings in Turkey, Western officials with Salim Idris. The White House said Friday that it will take weeks to deliver weapons and ammunition to Syrian rebels despite the rising death toll in the Civil War and pleas for speedy assistance from anti-government forces. The United States has created supply pipelines and set up intermediaries to deliver humanitarian aid to the opposition for several months and will use them to send direct military assistance to the Supreme Military Council, an umbrella group of rebel factions, Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes said. “In terms of timelines, we’ve established these pipelines, so I think you should see this as a continuum,” Rhodes said. “There’s already material that has been flowing in to the opposition, and that will continue to be the case in the weeks to come. So, we don’t anticipate that this is something that is far off into the future.” Another administration official confirmed that the administration is talking about delivery in a matter of weeks, not months. They follow recent rebel lo ...
The Telegraph How President Barack Obama became convinced of need to arm Syrian rebels Barack Obama grew convinced that the US should arm Syria's opposition forces due to Iran and Hezbollah's increased involvement in the country's Civil War, as a senior aide repeatedly told him: 'Superpowers don't bluff'. The White House announced on Thursday that America would provide "military support" for the Supreme Military Council (SMC) after tests confirmed that Bashar al-Assad's regime had killed up to 150 people with sarin, the lethal chemical weapon. Under a classified order from Mr Obama – made after two years of pressure from rebel leaders, European ministers and US congressmen for him to act – the CIA is to funnel small arms and other military equipment to rebel fighters via Jordan, one of Washington's closest allies in the region. White House officials have repeatedly declined to detail what weapons would be provided, saying only that the move represented a shift in US support in both "scope and scale". ...
It's like yesterday and I can still remember the day just like a fresh spring water. It was in the late afternoon of 1985 in Osogbo, my office, Nigeria Machine Tools. It was a day after Major General Ibrahim Babangida and his co adventurers into Nigeria political landscape torpedoed the military regime of Buhari and Idiagbon. A regime to some of us, though military, of hope development and betterment in the lives of the ordinary people. And to some a harsh military regime that should just go. Buhari regime introduced a panacea to Nigeria problems. DISCIPLINE. All developed countries imbibed discipline for them to get to where they are today. As we sat down discussing the coup, myself, Ayo Oladele and Kayode Bamidele, one of the company's drivers came in from Lagos with the Evening Times of that day. Opening the paper, we saw the picture of the new members of the Supreme Military Council headed by Babangida seated. In the picture was the Military President Babangida, Mamman Vatsa, Abacha with his large sun ...
While in government, various programmes were introduced. Among them are the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) which oversaw and the National Environmental Sanitation which is still in force. The Buhari war against drug trafficking, the war against the press and the repression of ousted politicians were the anti-climax of the regime. The regime's incarceration of many politicians was condemned as barbaric. In fact, many of the jailed governors -Professor Ambrose Ali, Aper Aku, Tatari Ali, Zabo Barkin Zuwo and Alhaji Busari Adelakun died in detention. Also, the death of Chief Bisi Onabanjo was not unconnected with his prison experience. While the conservative British newspaper castigated the junta abroad, the Nigerian Bar Association, Lagos, on Monday 13 August 1984, issued a communique after its meeting in Lagos expressing concern that decrees that were being churned out of then Supreme Military Council threatened the jurisdiction of courts.
The recent furore surrounding US senator John McCain’s illegal trip inside Syria, and the supposed ‘rebels’ he was seen posing with alongside Supreme Military Council (SMC) Chief Salim Idriss, have shed further light on what appears to be another corrupt ‘NGO’ enterprise. After the worldwide publication of the photographs, McCain was quick to try to dispel rumours that the Syrian ‘rebels’ were the very people responsible for the kidnapping of 11 Lebanese pilgrims inside Syria, who still remain in captivity to this day. Contrary to McCain’s – and his media apologists – desperate attempts to refute the claims; many reports suggested it was indeed the kidnappers he was seen posing with. Furthermore, in one report in Lebanon’s Al Akhbar, it is claimed McCain even went so far as to ask the kidnappers to hold some of the captive pilgrims, as they are suspected members of Hezbollah. According to a source who had previously been in contact with the kidnappers, McCain was allegedly there “ ...
The June 4 Uprising The June 4, 1979 uprising in Ghana was the outcome of a spontaneous outburst of anger and disenchantment nurtured by junior military officers toward the then Akuffo-led Supreme Military Council. It brought an end to a corrupt, inept and insensitive ruling military hierarchy that had plunged the country into a state of economic and social chaos. The malice of the junior officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces toward the military leadership was so deep-seated that when the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council succeeded in taking over power, the junior ranks publicly executed eight senior officers including three former military heads of state. Not surprisingly, huge crowds of Ghanaians erupted with chants of “let the blood flow.” General Akuffo had removed General Kutu Acheampong, SMC I, from office in a palace coup and his SMC II government was preparing to return the country to civilian rule. The leadership of the uprising assured the nation that they had not come to hang on to po ...

WHY HAVE THE MUSLIM SCHOLARS CONDEMNED KHOMEINI TO BLASPHEMY? (PART 3) HOW DID 'THE GUARDIANSHIP OF THE JURIST' DOCTRINE ENTER SHIITE; THOUGHT? Khomeini wrote his book 'The Islamic Government' shortly before the outbreak of the Iranian revolution. We must work from now on for his appearance, to prepare the land for him, so that when he does appear he will find conditions in order and the government already established!" He suggested a different use of the fifth or 20% of the annual income of every Shiite to be paid to al-albeit, saying, "Bani Hashim, who deserve the fifth, are sufficed by a tenth of a tenth of this amount. What are they doing with these piled millions? We can commence Jihad now, and use this wealth to establish the Islamic state?" REVOLUTION OF POST INDEPENDENCE GOVERNANCE IN GHANA Ghana became the first African country South of the Sahara to gain political independence from Britain on March 06, 1957. The 1957 Constitution which was modeled after the Westminster system suffered repeal in 1960 when Ghana became a Sovereign Unitary Republic under the 1960 first Republican Constitution. The 1960 Constitution reflected a system of governance in the USA. This constitution however could not survive a 24th February, 1966 coup d’état which ushered in the first Military Government in Ghana (the National Liberation Council, NLC). The NLC vested both Executive and Legislative power in itself, but preserved Judicial functions in the judiciary. In 1969, the 2nd Republican Constitution was introduced. This constitution was explicit in separating the three arms of government (1960 Constitution over concentrated power in the Executive President). The ‘69 constitutional arrangement created a split executive (Head of State and Head of Governmen ...
As we approach December 7, 2012 Polls, we need a Chairman of the EC with the courage of a Justice Abban (dec), who defied every intimidation by IK Acheampong, then Chairman of ruling Supreme Military Council, to make the people's vote of "NO to UNIGOV" stand. When the need arose, he simply scaled the walls of the Electoral Commission with the results intact, to escape a possible 'extermination'. There was also an Ofori Boateng at the EC. Presently, the EC Chairman is a complete mix-up.
THE MOMENT OF TRUTH. Fellow Nigerians, this indeed is the moment of truth. My colleagues and I in the Supreme Military Council must be frank enough to acknowledge the fact that @ the moment, an accurate picture of the financial position is yet to be determined. We have no doubt that the situation iz bad enough. Inspite of this, every effort will be made to ensure that the difficult and degrading conditions under which we are living are ameliorated. Major General Muhammadu Buhari's first address to the nation on january 1, 1984.
Boko Haram insisted yesterday that it did not kill Civil War veteran, Major Gen. Mamman Shuwa (rtd). The assassination occurred barely 24 hours after the sect’s offer of a ceasefire. Shuwa was murdered in Maiduguri, Borno State at the weekend. Gen Shuwa, a Civil War veteran and former member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC), was killed last Friday in his house at Gwange 1, Maiduguri by gunmen. The military Joint Task Force (JTF) said four gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members, appeared at Shuwa’s residence as guests and subsequently opened fire on him. “One of the guests died on the spot while the General died on his way to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital,” JTF said. But in a telephone conference addressed yesterday in Maiduguri by Mohammed Ibn Abdulaziz, one of Boko Haram’s commanders, who had been speaking on behalf of the Islamist sect recently, the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which is also known as Boko Haram, maintained it was not responsible for t ...

The principle of government tells us that a cabinet Minister merely implements decisions of government, as decided at the cabinet meeting, then by the Supreme Military Council, headed by Gowon, which Awo was a member and a finance minister. It is an act of doctrinaire for us to think that Yorubas will not see a debasement of Awo, s person, as a profanation and blasphemy of their deity, same with Igbos on Zik, okpara, or Ikemba. I see we are losing sight of who our enemies are. Those who could not spare Fajuyi, a Yoruba, in his bid to save JTU Ironsi, and both men were murdered in cold blood. As we continue to make mountain out of this anthill, let’s be reminded that the main genocidal policies of those darks yrs were actually executed by our new found alliances from the middle belt and the Hausa/Fulani. They have always used us and abandon us, whether under NPC/NCNC or NPN/NPP accord. This brings me to a worrying political culture among our people. As I take a journey of Nigerian social-political histor ...

Take-over Speech by Lt-General Olusegun Obasanjo following the execution of Murtala Mohammed, May 1976 SATURDAY, 29 MAY 2010 00:33 The Supreme Military Council has been meeting to consider, among other things the conclusions of the Military Tribunal appointed by the Federal Military Government to try those involved in the abortive coup of February 13. The Council has confirmed the sentences passed by the Tribunal. Those condemned to death by firing squad have been executed today. These include Lt-Col B.S. Dimka and Mr J.D. Gomwalk, two of the principal actors of the abortive coup. With these executions and the other sentences confirmed we have now substantially disposed of the major issues arising from the coup attempt. Let me assure the nation that throughout the investigations, scrupulous efforts were made to ensure that all those accused were fully heard and given a fair trial. Indeed it was because of our desire to be meticulous in the pursuit of justice that it took this long to put the issues result ...
