"And the walls come crumbling down". Four words that could deep-six Obamacare WASHINGTON — The most serious challenge to President Obama's Health Care law since it survived the Supreme Court by a single vote in 2012 isn't a balky website, public opinion or the Republican takeover of Congress. It's the Supreme Court — again. In a case likely to be heard in March and decided in June, the justices will dissect the meaning of four words on page 95 of the 906-page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — four words that could render health insurance premiums unaffordable for millions of Americans. Here's a look at the issues in King v. Burwell: Question: Why the fuss over four words? Answer: The law states that tax credits will be available through so-called exchanges, or online marketplaces, "established by the State." When it was being crafted, it was assumed that all 50 states would create their own exchanges. After it passed in March 2010, it became clear that many states would rely on the federa ...

Based on the recent Supreme Court finding that the U.S. government has unlimited power of taxation (see John Roberts' ruling, Re: ObamaCare "penalties") Barack Obama today issued an Executive Order imposing a fine, sorry a tax, on respiration. Respiration has been found to be the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and global warming. American citizens will henceforth be allowed to inhale an unlimited amount of air, but no exhalation shall be permitted without penalty, err, "tax.".
John Roberts, Supreme Court Justice - Left us an out, Seems no Lawyers or Congressman are willing to do it. Obama Care was instituted and placed into law and passed the Supreme Court because it was considered a TAX. Just one problem, Congress EXEMPTED Themselves. Here's the UNCONSTITUTIONAL part. "Why hasn't the media discovered this?" Congress can make no law that also doesn't apply to them. They CAN'T TAX you and I without having the same tax on themselves. If Obama Care according to Chief Justice Roberts is legal because it's a tax, Then Congress either has to include themselves or We don't have to participate! I need some smart *** Lawyer to debate this, Where is O'Reilly and Napalatono?

Dear Robert, California’s 9th Circuit is at it again. But this time they’re not forcing homosexual “marriage” on the people of California. They’ve now launched an all-out war on ALL Christians by ordering the Mount Soledad Memorial Cross be ripped up and torn down. Robert, I’m going to stand up and DEFEND the cross. And I’m counting on you to stand with me and defend the cross by signing your Mount Soledad Cross Statement of Support to Chief Justice John Roberts IMMEDIATELY. As you’ll see, your Statement of Support -- which cc’s the ENTIRE U.S. Supreme Court -- urges John Roberts to review the 9th Circuit’s outrageous decision and overrule this blatant attack on our Christian faith. But before I give you the link to sign your Statement of Support, let me explain why this fight is so important -- and how you and I can stop the Mount Soledad Cross from being torn down. For nearly 60 years, this 29 foot cross has stood as the centerpiece of the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial in San Diego ...
John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, Sam the Sham Alito, Clarence Thomas and Justice Kennedy the most corrupt Supreme Court in history
Curious to hear my conservative friends take on the Supreme Court ruling yesterday. just wanna hear some opinions.here it is... Today, in a 5-4 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the Supreme Court in “McCutcheon vs. Federal Election Commission,” went beyond “Citizen’s United” to strike down overall limits on how much an individual may contribute in one election cycle to innumerable federal candidates and to party committees. Overturning 40 years of national policy and 38 years of judicial precedent, the Court’s decision allows federal officeholders to solicit and individual donors to pour as much as $3.6 million directly into federal campaigns every election cycle – buying unparalleled personal influence in Washington and drowning out the voices of ordinary citizens. (It gives me no satisfaction that I testified against John Roberts at his confirmation hearing years ago.) This is the most brazen invitation to oligarchy in Supreme Court history.
I hate to have to admit it, but I was wrong about George W. Bush after all. I've always predicted that his legacy would be written by his two failed wars, the invisible WMDs, and the Great Recession of '08. But it won't. He managed to plant two time bombs that went off five years after he slithered his way back to Texas, that are only now doing their damage; "Justices" Sam Alito and John Roberts. I use the word justices in quotes, because their presence on the Supreme Court has made a mockery of the very word. The 5/4 ruling this morning, the conservative member's latest attempt to nullify decades of campaign finance reform legislation will hand even more power to the monied interests, and leave the rest of us politically impotent. I never thought I'd see this day; a billionaire casino magnate can give millions of dollars to the candidate of his choosing -- one who will do his political bidding -- and all We the People can do is watch as our Democracy unravels. The era of unregulated corruption began with ...

I think racism, sexism and homophobia should be an impeachable offense in public office. I think at the very least someone needs to explain, how can a bigot uphold their oath of office when they or not culturally or emotionally capable of representing all Americans. People like Ted Cruz, Jeffery Beauregard Sessions, Jon Kyl, Tom Coburn and Richard Shelby are white Supremacist. They see Blacks and other people of color as subservient life forms. How can we move forward in the 21st century with such a low standard of legislative representation? You have several members of congress that are racist. They may serve the fears and frustrations of their white constituencies but they only serve as terrorist to their Black and Brown citizens in their home states. The same thing can be said about the current US Supreme Court. You have a Chief Justice, John Roberts and Associate Justices Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito who have a knowable history of racism. The US Senate has a history of confirming justices that have ...

Did you know John Roberts is also Chief Justice of the NSA’s surveillance state? By Ezra Klein, Published: July 5, 2013 Chief Justice of the United States is a pretty big job. You lead the Supreme Court conferences where cases are discussed and voted on. You preside over oral arguments. When in the majority, you decide who writes the opinion. You get a cool robe that you can decorate with awesome gold stripes. Oh, and one more thing: You have exclusive, unaccountable, lifetime power to shape the surveillance state. Chief Justice John Roberts decides who watches the spies. To use its surveillance powers — tapping phones or reading e-mails — the Federal Government must ask permission of the court set up by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. A FISA judge can deny the request or force the government to limit the scope of its investigation. It’s the only plausible check in the system. Whether it actually checks government surveillance power or acts as a rubber stamp is up to whichever FISA judg ...
We spend millions of dollars trying to propagate Democracy throughout the world and yet we don't have a democratic system here in America. During the 2012 election year Republican Governors tried to disenfranchise as many minorities, the elderly, and poor people as they could. They passed laws that they knew would hurt the above people's opportunity to vote. Now the Supreme Court cancelled proposition 5 from the Civil Rights Act saying the country has changed. Led by John Roberts and the all time traitor to African American people Clarence Thomas they made it possible for Republican Governors to enact these laws because the Republicans know they can never get a majority in America unless they disenfranchise a certain segment of the country. That is why the Republicans in the House will never pass the immigration law because they don't want Hispanics gaining full citizenship. From the very beginning this country has never been a full Democracy. When my enslaved ancestors were freed we had to battle for a h ...
It's awesome that we have such a weak-willed, spineless coward as our Chief Justice. I find it amazing that John Roberts consistently rules determining what will or won't get him in trouble. Our Supreme Court (our government for that matter) needs to rule on the side of what's right, and not what is legal. And before I hear a bunch of folks quoting "obey them that have the rule over you" just remember. The Founding Fathers became criminals once they drafted the Declaration. To even begin the process of bringing about our Constitution, they had to ILLEGALLY scrap The Articles of Confederation which required UNANIMOUS consent from the states to be even slightly changed. The Apostle Paul was a fugitive because he refused to stop preaching Jesus Christ. It is illegal for a 14 year old girl to lead prayer in a public classroom. However, it is legal for that same 14 year old girl to murder a human growing inside her. For those of you wondering what I'm ranging about, the Supreme Court, namely Chief Justice Robe ...
Everything you need to know about the nominations showdown, in one FAQ By Dylan Matthews, Published: June 3, 2013 It was funny when Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Chuck Grassley equated Obama filling D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals vacancies with “court-packing.” But that’s not the last we’re going to hear from the Senate about judicial appointments. According to my colleague Juliet Eilperin, Obama is gearing up to appoint three more judges to the D.C. Circuit, which currently has eight confirmed judges but a total of 11 seats. If approved, Obama’s new nominees would put the court at full capacity for the first time since a brief period in 2005, before John Roberts left to become Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The last time the court was full before that was in 1991 — but then Clarence Thomas left to join the Supreme Court. And whether or not those judges make it onto the court could make or break Obama’s second-term agenda. They’ll be the ones ruling on decisions coming from ...

There is no 2nd Amendment. In 1954 the Supreme Court threw The Constitution out of the window. Earl Warren then, John Roberts now
Tell Chief Justice Roberts: Don't let Justice Scalia's Republican activism on the bench drag America back to the racist Jim Crow Era The petition to Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts reads: "Put your country and the Constitution before partisan politics. If you overturn the Voting Rights Act with support from Justice Scalia, you put the credibility of the Supreme Court — and your legacy — at risk. Ensure history remembers the Supreme Court under your leadership as Chief Justice as 'the Roberts Court' not 'the Republican activist Court' that returned us to the era of Jim Crow." As one of the youngest Chief Justices appointed in U.S. history, the conservative jurist John Roberts has long been expected to leave his distinct stamp on the Supreme Court. But will his legacy be one of conservative jurisprudence or Republican judicial activism in the tradition of Jim Crow? Will his leadership be known in history books as "the Roberts Court" or "the Racist Court"? That distinction may very well hinge on ...

Robert Bork: His reputation never sullied by being on the Supreme Court. Got that, John Roberts?
The ultimate administration goal of the General Petraeus scandal outcome I believe is to take down the last obstacle between Barack Obama and our Constitutional government, our American Military. Obama ignored the Congress operating with zero budgets, never providing semiannual reports on proposed executive branch initiatives, and plainly his intention to act alone by Executive Order if Congress did not give him what he wants. He harassed the Supreme Court over the rumors that it would overturn Obama Care and continued to say his health plan was not a tax even after Chief Justice John Roberts caved to White House pressure and said the law was legal if considered a tax. None of Obama’s infringements on those serious issues that have defined our separation of powers and deemed essential for the continuance of our Republican form of government for 236 years swayed the American electorate last week! Of course the dead main stream media never raised a voice in defense of our Constitution but looked the o ...
Breaking from Newsmax.com President Barack Obama IS LIKELY TO PUT GREATER IMPRINT ON THE SUPREME COURT OF US . Barack Obama, already the first president to appoint two female justices, may have a chance to name a third during his second term in office and deepen his imprint on the U.S. Supreme Court. With four justices 74 or older, actuarial tables alone suggest Obama will have another vacancy or two to fill before he leaves the White House in January 2017. The oldest of the court’s nine members, 79-year-old Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has indicated she might retire in the next few years. Names of possible successors are already circulating in Democratic circles. California Attorney General Kamala Harris, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Virginia Seitz, and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan are high on the lists. Obama almost certainly would choose a woman to succeed Ginsburg, ensuring the court continues to have three female justices, said Amy Howe, a lawyer at Goldstein & ...
I still put the blame on Obamacare's passage on Bart Stupak and Bill Nelson. However, I put proper blame on two Republicans, who helped it get passed and upheld. Olympia Snowe of Maine, could have killed it in committee. But, she voted to pass it, because she felt it should be fair, to discuss it on the Senate floor. Chief Justice John Roberts, was the deciding vote, for the Supreme Court's upholding. This man was appointed by President G.W. and made CJ, by G.W. Stupak answered for his mistake and Nelson's day will come. But, the same will come to Snowe and Roberts. God have mercy on them.
thinks it's funny how it's taken Republicans a mere 3 days to bring a challenge to the historic 'Voting Rights Act' to the Supreme Court, as they did 4 years ago; it's an outright admission on their part that "unless we can suppress the votes of Minorities and Women, we may never win again." The question is, what will John Roberts do? He did the right thing last time; will he do the 'Right' thing this time?
Most conservatives are worried and upset about having Obama as President for four more years, as well they should be. However, the Presidency isn't the only branch of government that warrants our concern...we must not forget the importance of the Supreme Court and the role Obama might play in how it deals with social issues for decades to come. Of course, the President nominates potential justices. There are four conservative judges right now, with Anthony Kennedy quite often serving as a "Swing Vote". Three are relatively young: John Roberts is 57; Clarence Thomas is 64; Samuel Alito is 62. However, the aforementioned Kennedy and Antonin Scalia are both 76. We need to pray that they can hang around until the age of 80, or othewise Obama will replace them with liberals, and we sure don't want that, as liberals would then control the Court.
—This is why Scalia should be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and not John Roberts. I love this man.
THIS IS WHY NATIVE AMERICANS MUST VOTE FOR OBAMA..IF YOU VOTE ROMNEY U JUST SCREWED YOUR OWN PEOPLE! Governor Romney says that he would repeal the Affordable Care Act on his first day in office. Not only would his actions jeopardize Health Care coverage for all Americans, it would also mean the end of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. And while President Obama supports reauthorizing a Violence Against Women Act bill that would allow Indian tribes to prosecute non-Indians who assault our Indian women, Governor Romney has said he will not support expanded protections for Indian women, LGBT persons, and immigrants. As President, Romney would also have the power to appoint new conservative Supreme Court Justices. Indian Country has already been battered by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts. The future of our tribal sovereignty depends on who gets appointed to the Court. Only President Obama is going to appoint Supreme Court Justices who understand and support Indian Country like Sonia S ...
(Thanks to Howie Klein for posting this:) "On his website, Romney pledges he’ll send to the Court nominees in the mold of Justices Samuel Alito, John Roberts, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence Thomas." These are four of the worst Supreme Court Justices in the history of the Court. Two of them, Scalia and Thomas are utter disgraces. If this doesn't motivate fair-minded people to vote AGAINST Romney, then they are responsible for America becoming a lost cause for freedom and liberty. This quote should send a chill through your spine.
According to Rice University president David Leebron, the legal career of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts really took off in law school, when the jurist was named managing editor ...
The lack of bipartisanship is not because we have leaders of ill will, but because the gap in ideas and vision has become so wide. This is reflected in our elections, in Congress and in the Supreme Court. Barack Obama and John Roberts personify the apex of that divide. Jeffrey Toobin expalins it to me:
So here's my prediction: Mitt Romney will win the POPULAR vote Nov 6th, but Obama will hold onto Ohio (mainly because of the auto bailout) and deprive Romney of the necessary 271 Electoral College votes. But it gets better: Ohio being Ohio, some delegates will bolt on Dec 6th when they meet to vote. They may swing the electoral vote count to Romney or result in a tie, which would send the election to the US House. The Democrats will sue..but unlike 2000 when the Supreme Court gave the election to Bush, John Roberts will side with the liberals because he wants to be the 21st century Oliver Wendell Holmes. You heard it here first.
I have some dear friends -- and relatives -- who are importuning me to vote for Romney on the grounds that he is the lesser of two evils in the upcoming Presidential election. These are people I respect, and so I am tempted to say, "All right, I'll do it." Their most persuasive argument is that Romney will make better Supreme Court nominations, and they point to the Democratic appointees, the Ginsburgs, Kagans and Sotomayors with whose decisions we are now saddled. It's a good point. But then I go one step further: look at the now-dead or -retired David Souter, John Paul Stevens, Harry Blackmun, William Brennan, Earl Warren -- all Republican appointees, all disgraces to their office. And just a couple of months ago, Bush-appointee John Roberts endorsed the Obamacare mandate. So the Republicans have not always come through on this matter -- although in fairness I have to admit that Republican appointees Thomas, Scalia, and Alito have done themselves proud. Still, minor party is the way to go, what with Ob ...
Every election cycle, the Democratic presidential nominee inexplicably fails to talk about the consequences of the next Supreme Court Justice being appointed by a Republican president. The only time I ever heard John Kerry address the issue was at a private fundraiser. He never made an issue of it in his campaign ads or during the debates. And look what happened: John Roberts and Sam Alito. And a succession of ghastly, "activist" right wing ideological decisions inevitably followed. Lilly Ledbetter and Citizens United were just the ones that received the most attention from the press. But there were numerous other 5-4 atrocities that were shocking in their disingenuousness, their brazen ideological bent, and the downright cruelty of their effects. Essentially, the court was dispensing miscarriages of justice at a pace approaching the speed of light. The one campaign promise that George W. Bush made good on was that he would "appoint justices in the mold of Scalia and Thomas." That he did. The result was f ...
This chart is good news ... if you think a small handful of wealthy people should dominate American elections. Citizen United will go down as perhaps the worst Supreme Court decision ever, right next to history's worst Chief Justice, John Roberts.

When President George W. Bush nominated John Roberts and Samuel Alito for the Supreme Court, women's groups mobilized to no avail. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refused to filibuster either nomination despite personal pleas from feminist leaders. Our main worry was reproductive freedom.
"This is really making me crazy," he said. "The Federal Reserve gets questioned now for politics these days, the Supreme Court, John Roberts. We have corroded." Todd lowered his voice, which grew shaky. "What we're doing, we're corroding trust in our government in a way, and one time responsible people are doing to control it. And the idea that Donald Trump and Jack Welch, rich people with crazy conspiracy, can get traction on this, is a bad trend." --Chuck Todd America, Chuck Todd is absolutely right on that one. You are being bamboozled by the rich and powerful who simply want to keep the playing field slanted in their favor. They want an America that continues to export jobs overseas so that the Americans who can partner with the Chinese can make as much money as possible. Who do you think will be squeezed out of that deal? The Middle Class. If you fall for the Romney ruse, someone will soon sell you the Brooklyn Bridge as well.
What is this country coming to? I cannot BELIEVE the Voting Rights Act is being challenged and worse that the Supreme Court think it's actually worth reviewing. In 1965, when blacks were being turned away from voting booths in the South, the law was enacted so that the Federal Government could overrule states that discriminate in their voting practices. So now, that provision is up for grabs again. And guess who is bringing it to court? All the southern states. John Roberts said the times are different now. But they aren't different at all. Sure, we may no longer have civil riots in the streets but racism is alive and well. It's just more subtle. I can't believe in 2012, basic rights are being challenged all over again.
Who needs them? 9/24/12 By Dan Brillman Is something in the water over at the Supreme Court? Last week, we reported on a volley of name-calling , rebuttals , and counter-rebuttals between Justice Antonin Scalia and 7th Circuit judge Richard Posner. Scalia was also reportedly " enraged " at John Roberts' switch on healthcare. And in an interview with Reuters' Editor-in-Chief, Steven Adler, Scalia even dissed the French . Well, maybe it's just Scalia's way. But now Clarence Thomas is getting into the backbiting act with some choice words for U.S. News' vaunted law school rankings . Speaking to University of Florida law students last week, Thomas said that he goes out of his way to select clerks from schools that are not normally considered "first tier," and he compared the practice of only selecting clerks from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc. to racial and gender discrimination. "My new bias," he said, "is that I don't eliminate the Ivies in hiring, but I intentionally prefer kids from regular backgrounds and ...
The book, "The Oath, The Obama White House and the Supreme Court" is a disinformation book designed to make you think that Justice Robert's ruling, upholding Obama Care (June 28th 2012, a day that will live in infamy) was the act of conservative genius on the part of John Roberts. This deception was created on the day of the ruling with headlines by all the NeoCon Talking Heads, "Justice Robert's Ruling, The Work of a Genius" - and similar titles. This is propaganda, not fact and is explained at this link:
So, this afternoon I found a flyer on my car about how Obama is requiring us all to have a microchip implanted in our arms that the Bible describes as the mark of the devil. I noticed 5 things that irritated me: (1) it was on my window to begin with, (2) it was in broken English, (3) it called Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Roberts, (4) it was full of Conspiracy Theory nonsense, and (5) it told me I was going to *** and then asked me to go to church. I respond as follows: (1) do not put things on my car, a man's car is his shrine, (2) if you're going to transact in English (this includes being a nutter), learn to write proper English (many native speakers fail this), (3) John Roberts is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Bush nominated him, Republican Senate confirmed him. Don't trivialize it because you're angry. (4) the foolishness about HAARP, shadow governments, and corporations eating our souls has to stop. This particular microchip was approved in 2004 (again Bush-era so why is this Obama ...

Citizenship exam practice question Q: Who is he current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court? A: John Roberts
The recent Supreme Court decision to uphold the major provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), as Chief Justice John Roberts implied, does not make the law necessarily good policy or good politics. The evidence so far overwhelmingly refutes the law’s supporters on both fronts.
New law counters Westboro protests By Bryant Jordan Monday, August 6th, 2012 10:45 pm Posted in Policy Congress took action where the Supreme Court didn’t to curb Westbooro Baptist Church’s followers from protesting the funerals of fallen troops and veterans. President Obama signed into law Monday the Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act that includes language aimed at protecting service members funerals. The church based in Kansas is best known for staging protests at service members funerals to protest the service of homosexuals in the military. In 2011, the Supreme Court ruled the First Amendment protected Westboro’s right to protest the funerals. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that “as a nation we have chosen … to protect even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate.” Sen. Olympia Snow, R-Maine, introduced legislation three months following the Court’s ruling that gives the government the ri ...
This a well written nonfiction book about a branch of government (The Supreme Court) that has an immense effect on us but I, at least, knew little about. Thom Hartmann says that the Supreme Court is by far the most powerful branch of government and reading this book you get a sense of why. There is this very popular thought pushed for many years and now advocated by John Roberts that the Supreme Court are umpires--they don't make balls and strikes, they just say which are which. As the book points out this is, of course, completely ridiculous. He says at one point: "There is, for example, no meaningful difference between Scalia and Ginsburg in intelligence, competence or ethics. What separates them is judicial philosophy--ideology--and that means everything on the Supreme Court." He focused about half of the book in the middle on Sandra Day O'Connor, her role in Bush v Gore and how that changed her. Most of this was all new to me and fascinating reading. I don't read near as much nonfiction as ficti ...
The liars and thieves called Congress are about to head out for their FIVE WEEK August vacation. How much is your crook getting paid for his/her vacation from the sweat off your back? Members of Congress: House members (all yearly): $174,000. That means for five weeks (if my math is correct) he/she receives a $16,730.75 "recess"for doing absolutely nothing besides going to fund raisers and junkets. Speaker of the House: $223,500. Boehner's cut for those five weeks: $21,490.40 Majority and Minority Leaders and President Pro Tempore: $193,400 or $18,596.15 The U.S. Supreme Court is "in session" preparing for October - or so legend goes. After John Roberts issued one of the most dishonest opinions in the Obamacare mess, he high tailed it to Malta to teach classes for two weeks. Guess who pays his salary ($223,500) for the year? Justice Roberts is Right: The Plan Won’t Work July 30, 2012 - 5:26pm — europac admin By: Peter Schiff Monday, July 30, 2012 Now that the Supreme Court has given its narrow blessing to the Affordable Care Act, the big question is whether it will deliver the benefits that its proponents promise. Unfortunately, as it is now constructed, the plan will backfire causing fewer healthy people to buy insurance, raise premiums for those who do, destroy employment opportunities, cripple the health insurance industry, and weaken the economy. In order to guarantee insurance to all, regardless of age, health or pre-existing conditions, the framers of the plan concede that it is essential that the young and healthy (who are less likely to be heavy users of Health Care) pay into the insurance pool. The surplus generated from their premiums compensates for the money lost to those receiving more in services than they pay in premiums (e.g. older people and those with medical conditions). But the ACA has given these heal ...

July 19, 2005 John Roberts nominated as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Books on him are found in Biographies under ROBERTS.
Of the millions of words written and spoken about the Supreme Court's decision in the Affordable Care Act case, too many have focused on labels and politics, too few on the principles of judging. Chief Justice John Roberts' decision, regardless of anyone's opinion of whether he was "right"...
James C. Capretta & Yuval Levin write on NRO: Last month’s Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare left champions of that law breathing a sigh of relief, while its opponents — a majority of the public — were left frustrated. It seemed at first glance as though the Chief Justice’s tortured opinion had save...
Shame on the Supreme Court and John Roberts! Chief Justice Roberts decision was cowardly!
In her latest nytimes.com column, posted Wednesday night, "The Mystery of John Roberts," Linda Greenhouse, former Supreme Court reporter for the Times, retraced previous conservatives losses at the Supreme Court from the pre-Internet days of the early '90s and the relatively muted response of conser...
Must read analysis of Supreme Court dynamics, decision by Linda Greenhouse: The Mystery of John Roberts
Date: Jun 28, 2012 3:32 PM Hey Folks, I'm sure that I'm like most of you and disapprove of the individual mandate ruling. But, you must read this. Roberts may be is a wily fox. Read this op-ed, in detail, and see if you agree with Mr. Erickson. His perspective is note worthy. Bottom line: the ruling John Roberts, this is an absolute must read. puts Obama, and the Dems running for re-election, having to defend a 'new tax,' not s 'fine.' This is strong fuel for the Republican arguments of those running for office, including Romney. Don of Indy Subject: John Roberts Dear RedState Reader, As you have no doubt heard by now, the Supreme Court largely upheld Obamacare with Chief Justice John Roberts writing the majority 5 to 4 decision. Even Justice Kennedy called for the whole law to be thrown out, but John Roberts saved it. Having gone through the opinion, I am not going to Beat Up on John Roberts. I am disappointed, but I want to make a few points. John Roberts is playing at a different game than the rest of ...

Linda Greenhouse on "The Mystery of John Roberts." Can we appoint her to the Supreme Court?
Here is new legal twist Obamacare is really not constitutional (tax or no tax). Kagan should have not been allowed to vote because she was part of making the law or bill. Any "normal, ethical" justice would not have voted on it, were they Kagan. That *** John Roberts did not call her on that as he should have. Anyway, with Kagan not voting the law could not be held constitutional becuase it would have been 4 votes to 4 votes --- tie vote means it is not upheld! Take that: John Roberts you have usurped and shamed the Constitution --- of course I would expect no less dastardly deed from Elena Kagan! Under John Roberts, this is a lawless Supreme Court!
Often the first question the lawyers Ted Olson and David Boies get when they talk about their effort to overturn California’s anti *** Proposition 8 is this: Are there five votes on the Supreme Court for their case? Olson, a...
Fascinating op-ed by Judd Gregg on how the Supreme Court's Health Care ruling benefits conservatives.
There are still a lot of questions about last week's 5-4 Supreme Court decision upholding the Affordable Care Act . What does this mean for the Commerce Clause? How many states will refuse to expand Medicare ? What does it say about John Roberts ?
On the last possible day, the Supreme Court upheld most of the Affordable Care Act. (Here’s a pdf of the opinion.) Who won, then? John Roberts, the Chief Justice, who put himself in the majority with the Court’s four...

He has worked to promote an approach to politics based on the initiative of citizens of goodwill consonant with the with the principles of God-endowed natural right.Less ↑ When the U.S. Supreme Court announced its Obamacare decision, many conservatives professed to be shocked, even stunned, to hear that G.W. Bush appointee John Roberts wrote the decision in which he and the Supreme Court’s anti-constitutional leftists upheld the individual mandate provision that, for many conservatives, is its most offensive feature. Some so-called conservatives, mechanistically clinging to the GOP delusion, have scrambled like startled hens, awkwardly looking for some rationale that allows them to portray Roberts’ ...

Just finished reading Time Magazine's article on th Supreme Court ruling on Affordable Health Care and John Roberts. Very interesting and informative. I still think the final decision was politcal but it did disarm both political parties and that may be to the benefit of America. I found particularly interesting the opinions of former leading legal experts but the best and thought provoking was the one written by Ted Olson, you remember him, i think he defended Bush in the 13200 Bush vs. Gore case. The least impressive was the one written by Ken Starr, that poor excuse for a human being. Read it if you can get it.
Just got home... It's hot outside but it's cool inside. The air conditioning is working just fine. We are already fighting with State Farm Insurance about payment. We differ by thousands of dollars on the repair. I think the Supreme Court will handle our case and we have John Roberts on our side.
During a Republican debate in December, Mitt Romney was asked to name his favorite Supreme Court Justice. The first name he came up with? John Roberts. And on his campaign website, the presumptive Republican nominee for president vows to nominate justices "in the mold of Chief Justice Roberts." Now, in the wake of Roberts' key vote to uphold President Barack Obama's Health Care law, lets all watch Romney do yet another flip-flop and say something like: "Well, I didn't mean THAT John Roberts, I was referring to my neighbor down the street whose name happens to be John Roberts".
On Monday's Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, guest host Ezra Klein of The Washington Post defended liberals for "all that freaking out" about the Supreme Court throwing out Obamacare -- before John Roberts sealed the win for the liberals. Forget the end result, Klein announced -- the court almost ruled ...
George Will doesn't believe John Roberts will vote for *** marriage, but added that the Supreme Court would side with advocates
The right's meltdown over the Supreme Court's healthcare ruling took a new turn today as Rush Limbaugh compared John Roberts to Rodney King and Mark Levin took to Fox News to call him a tyrant.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell dropped by Fox News Sunday today to give his reaction to the Supreme Court ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act. McConnell touted reconciliation as an option to repeal the Health Care mandate based on John Roberts' ruling that it is a tax. Chris Wallace, *** ..
Why John Roberts is Mitt Romney's Secret Weapon By Kevin McCullough 7/1/2012 I would caution my fellow conservatives on the frustration they may be enticed to express at Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. It is unwarranted, and it is unwise. The reason I state such is that it is my firm belief that the Roberts' decision on the Obamacare mandate will without question bring about ultimate doom to the government control of healthcare, and through the best means possible--not judicial activism--but through the democratic process. In boxing terminology no one has pulled a "rope-a-dope" this effective since Muhammad Ali himself. In doing so, it is clear that John Roberts duped the liberal wing of the Supreme Court into agreeing with him on calling out President Obama as legislatively dishonest, while assisting the conservative wing of the court into dismantling punitive measures against the states, and greatly limiting the ability of the legislature to use the powers of the Commerce Clause of the constit ...
The commentary on John Roberts's solo walk into the Affordable Care Act wilderness is converging on a common theme: The Chief Justice is a genius. All of a sudden he is a chessmaster, a statesman, a Burkean minimalist, a battle-loser but war-winner, a Daniel Webster for our times. Now that we've had more time to take in Chief Justice Roberts's reasoning, we have a better summary: politician. In fact, his 5-4 ruling validating the constitutional arguments against purchase mandates and 5-4 ruling endorsing them as taxes is far more dangerous, and far more political, even than it first appeared last week. This is a minority view. By right-left acclaim, at least among elites, the Chief Justice has engineered a Marbury v. Madison-like verdict that camouflages new limits on federal power as a reprieve for President Obama's entitlement legacy and in a stroke enhanced the Supreme Court's reputation—and his own. This purported "long game" appeals to conservatives who can console themselves with a moral victory, ...
My fellow Americans, do we have our priorities straight? Hundreds, maybe thousands of Syrian civilians are being slaughtered by the Assad regime, but, it's John Roberts decision to uphold The Affordable Care Act that is all the news twits are talking about; Iran is a week closer to becoming a nuclear power, but, Obama's healthcare is the talk in the tabloid newspapers; more American soldiers are dying in Afghanistan, and the focus is on whether this new healthcare bill will propel Obama to a second term; Fires are still burning out of control in Colorado, but, the Senate Minority Leader only wants to discuss how he plans to defeat this Health Care victory handed to the Democrats by the Supreme Court; Muslim fundamentalists are awarded the power to rule Egypt, but, we've got to listen to Joe Biden make a total *** of himself, because he doesn't quite get it yet. While I was an active duty soldier, I didn't give a hoot about the price of tea in China, but, I did have my concerns about what was happening to ...
June 29, 2012 Trump Says John Roberts’ Birth Certificate is Fake Traces Chief Justice’s Birth to Village in Kenya New York (The Borowitz Report) – Controversy swirled around John Roberts today as billionaire Donald Trump claimed that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court had a fraudulent Birth Certificate. Mr. Trump said that these are the findings of a team of personal investigators he retained just after ten o’clock yesterday morning. According to these investigators, Justice Roberts, who claims to have grown up in Indiana, was actually born in a mud hut in a tiny rural village in Kenya. Furthermore, Mr. Trump claimed, “So-called John Roberts’ father was a village witchdoctor who forced all of the villagers to submit to his shamanic treatments, whether they wanted them or not.” While most of the mainstream media seemed skeptical of Mr. Trump’s allegations, Sean Hannity of the Fox News Channel called them “very concerning,” adding, “It’s time that the American people learned the ...

Life is not black and white. It is shades of gray. (Not necessarily 50.) John Roberts is well-known to be a very conservative jurist in his capacity as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, yet because he ruled in favor of the Affordable Health Care Act, too many from the left want to throw him a parade, and an equal number of those from the right would rather throw him under a float. Let me remind everyone that this is the same Chief Justice who voted in favor of the Citizens United decision, making every corporation a person in the eyes of the law and directly causing the onslaught of nasty election ads across the board (and remember, we have over 4 months of THOSE to put up with). I am reminded of the wisdom of a line from the final episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," a quote which I often refer to. In response to Ted Baxter showing an unusual amount of courage in defense of his coworkers, head writer Murray Slaughter remarked "...you don't get mad at a flying donkey when it doesn't stay up ver ...
Oh the irony: Senator Barack Obama voted against John Roberts for the Supreme Court.
John Roberts is said to be quite concerned about the way in which history will view his tour of duty as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. A Game-Changer For Romney By LAWRENCE KUDLOW Posted 05:41 PM ET In the hours following the Supreme Court's decision to ratify ObamaCare, Mitt Romney got $4.6 million in donations from 47,000 individuals. The tide is with him. The Supremes are a game changer. But Romney has to make the case. He needs to link the anemic jobs and economic situation to the ObamaCare tax, spend and regulate fiscal drag. And he has to add to that mix the dangers to our freedoms embodied in Justice John Roberts' expansion of the power to tax our personal behavior. Scott Rasmussen says the idea of ObamaCare repeal has held steady at around 54% ever since its passage in March 2010. This reveals the dynamic political opportunity that Gov. Romney has. Again, it's a three-pronged attack: The anemic economy, the ObamaCare costs that are stifling the economy and the John Roberts expanded power of taxation that will bring us more mandates, more entitlements and less personal freedom, all of which will further cripple the economy. One wa ...
thank you, John Roberts! Well, maybe, at least. Posted by Vern Shotwell on June 29, 2012 at 12:42pm in Tea Party Nation Forum Wow, the past day has been a Wild Ride, hasn't it? We were all prepared for a win, while steeled for a loss. Then the Chief Justice threw a curve ball, stating ObamaCare was indeed constitutional, but only if funding is a tax! One of the first reactions, within minutes, was a rather erudite, heavily linked, article here entitled "DID THE SCOTUS CREATE A NEW TAXING AUTHORITY NOT IN THE CURRENT CONSTITUTION?" Go here if you are interested. Poor Judson Phillips has been hanging out at the Supreme Court for a couple of weeks in anticipation. Wasted money on an unused Football yesterday. Hope it was Chinese, so it didn't cost too much! See The football that was not spiked if you are interested. I'll not list all the articles published here yesterday. Or the hundreds of emails I received. Me? I said very little yesterday. I was too flabbergasted to say much. Now, I've had a bit of time f ...
Can we all agree that nominating John Roberts to the Supreme Court now replaces No Child Left Behind as George W. Bush's WORST PRESIDENTIAL DECISION?
The key Supreme Court vote which decided that Obamacare was legal was cast by John Roberts - a Republican (should that be capitalized?) who was appointed by none other than George W. Bush. If you don't like Obamacare blame Obama and Bush not just Obama :D
In the past twenty-four hours I have gotten a lot of heat from friends over my take on what John Roberts did. What’s done is done and I really could not get all worked up about it because Obamacare in the Courts has been such a distraction. Yet again the GOP expected a court to save them from something they did not like. The GOP has largely turned its nose up at the tea party, which is its salvation. The tea party movement provided the GOP with the energy, man power, and money to take back the House in 2010 and come close in the Senate. For that, the GOP has routinely given the tea party the middle finger and, instead of fighting for repeal of Obamacare, excused itself while the Supreme Court did the heavy lifting. John Roberts, the man who gave us the Citizens United case has now, with a laughably inane ruling, told us we have to fight politically. The millions of people who joined the tea party in 2009 only to go back to their jobs and families after the 2010 election are now awake. In waking, what th ...

I would like to thank former President Bush for his wise and thoughtful nomination of John Roberts to be Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court following the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist in 2005. (He was actually nominated to replace Associate Justice Sanda Day O'Connor) Also, excellent confirmation process led by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) in the US Senate, and a 78-22 vote in the full Senate.
IS JOHN ROBERTS THE SHREWDIST MAN IN AMERICA John Roberts is the most hated man in conservative America. Maybe, but is he the shrewdist man in America.? When the Chief Justice sided with the liberal judges in upholding Obamacare, everyone who calls themselves a conservative when off the deep end. But is there something else at work here? Put yourself in Robert's shoes. Do you really think he likes Obama? I don't. So one of two things happened here. Roberts was indeed intimidated by Obama, and his goon squads, or, he played Obama as a sucker. I think the latter. Remember when Obama dissed the Supreme Court over campaign finance legislation in his State of the Union speech, while the Justices were sitting right in front of him with both houses of congress, and a national TV audience. It was the first time that anyone can remember that a sitting president has done such a thing. And you don't think Roberts remembers this? So if you ask me, Roberts has a little payback due. And he may have just gotten it. Look ...
Five Reasons Why the Obamacare Decision Might Not Be As Bad As You Think -- a good read! Ever since the shocking ruling by the Supreme Court today that labeled Obamacare’s highly controversial individual mandate a “tax” was handed down, conservatives have been reacting with a mixture of depression and cold fury, especially toward the man who made it possible, Chief Justice John Roberts. Branded a “coward” in some corners, and a traitor by many, Roberts has been relentlessly criticized for a decision which many see as eroding the last obstacle to an overpowered government, and which certainly has the potential to do just that if the political philosophy that has so dominated the current administration continues unabated. However, sympathetic though we are to these admittedly weighty fears of increased state power, we think one fact may have been a bit obscured by this response – this is still a decision by John Roberts. And John Roberts is still a Bush appointee, with a judicial philosophy that ...
Dear Editor Marijuana is ilegal under Federal Law based on the Interstate Commerce Clause of the Constitution. The Justices ruled that someone might break in your house, steal your marijuana, transport it across state lines, sell it and thus be involved in interstate commerce, thus be under Federal control! John Roberts took one for the team. The Interstate Commerce Clause is the Federal glue for the states. Even conservatives, the ones who can read, don't want the United States to become Europe. Because they are bound financially and not politically individual states might, may and do act in their narrow self interest weakening the whole and it is he combined might of the states in America which molds our great power. Most all Federal Law depends on the Interstate Commerce Clause of the Constitution and fights between states or entities are usually associated with commerce or criminality or both without the ICC the Supreme Court would have precious little to do! In criminality the only question is do the ...
The United States government does not have power to compel you to enter a market, but it has the power to tax you if you don't enter a market. James Madison vehemently argued against the General Welfare clause being an enumeration of power, and rather referred to it as an introductory statement. All enumerated power which follows thereafter cannot be effective without the power to lay and collect taxes. John Roberts' interpretation of the power to tax, and all precedent agreeing with it, is arbitrary use of power. The unfortunate situation is men like Ron and Rand Paul get labeled *** when in reality, the problem is too many Americans lack the education necessary to understand why five Supreme Court Justices are eligible for impeachment.
Earlier this week I posted My Quote of the Day: “Happy Moments – Praise God; Difficult Moments – Seek God; Quiet Moments – Worship God; Painful Moments – Trust God; Every Moment – Thank God!” After the Supreme Court decision on the Obama-nable Health Care law and how Chief Justice Roberts defected from common sense to cast the deciding vote, I especially need the part of my quote that said “Painful Moments – Trust God.” Nearly Two thirds of Americans disapproved of the partisan law that was partially written by the radical George Soros funded think tank “Media Matters,” and passed so dishonestly, that will add trillions more to our staggering debt load, and that was recently learned to require religious entities to compromise their moral principles. John Roberts used the language that not even the Obama lawyers wanted to employ to justify his decision calling the mandate a “TAX” so he could make it fit within the constitutional authority of Congress. Obama said the mandate w ...
I am proud of the Supreme Court today for choosing to ditch political ideology and instead choosing to uphold, as constitutional, the Affordable Care Act. In particular, I single out Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative Bush appointee who chose to save the institution of the Court rather than vote along ideological lines. The legislature passed it, the President signed it, and the Court has upheld it. Chief Justices do this from time to time...making significant statements in profound cases.John Marshall did it in Marbury v. Madison, Earl Warren did it in Brown v. Board of Education, and now John Roberts does it in U.S. v. Florida.
In his White House memoir, “Courage and Consequence,” Karl Rove recalls being the lone non-lawyer among the group of George W. Bush aides who initially interviewed John Roberts for the Supreme Court in 2005. Rove asked Roberts to go back in history to name the justice whom he most revered. Roberts’ ...

ObamaCare Ruling Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel for the American Center for Law & Justice, David Limbaugh Attorney and Author of " The Great Destroyer," and Congressman Randy Forbes of Virginia, joined Sean in the second hour of the show to discuss the ObamaCare ruling. "This is the largest increase on the middle class in American history," Sekulow told Sean. "John Roberts is right, it is not the job of the Supreme Court to protect the people from their political choices," explained Sekulow, but he strongly disagreed with Roberts on his defense of this law. Limbaugh felt that the ruling is incredibly invasive on the American people as it sets a precedent for Congress to implicate taxes moving forward on American citizens. Sekulow added that this ruling might be constitutional but it is not good law. Forbes explained that the freedoms we believed in dividing the powers of an over reaching government and the judicial arm of government has been extinguished. Sean explained that this is a huge deciding vote for t ...
I'd like to give a big thumbs up to the U.S. Supreme Court for upholding President Obama's Health Care bill. And way to go John Roberts for siding with liberals on the vote. Today was a good day. Now if we can just beat that fathead Mitt Romney in November...
Ayn Rand famously asked repeatedly in her book, Atlas Shrugged, "Who is John Galt?" It was a question those in the book asked when they pondered the desperate state they were in and had no answer for it. In light of today's awful Supreme Court decision, perhaps that question should be changed to "Who is John Roberts?" For those who have not ventured into the world of Atlas Shrugged.buy it and read it before the election in November. You will view our elaborate, over-reaching Federal Government as the leviathan it has become. And remember, Rand wrote it in 1957 as a warning. Sadly, it's coming true.
Time to move to the Cayman Islands. Here's a quote from Natural News: This is a special breaking news alert: The U.S. Supreme Court has rendered its Obamacare decision today, upholding the "individual mandate" portion of Obamacare by calling it a TAX: "The Affordable Care Act's requirement that certain individuals pay a financial penalty for not obtaining health insurance may reasonably be characterized as a tax," wrote Chief Just...ice John Roberts. Regardless of what you think about Obamacare itself, the red alert in all this is that, with this decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has granted the Federal Government unlimited power over your take-home paycheck. The government can now FORCE you to buy things you may not even want or need, and there is no limit to what the government can now force you to buy. Even worse, the Obamacare system excludes natural medicine. There is no freedom to choose nutritional therapies, herbal remedies, naturopathic medicine or the Healing Arts. The entire system is focused on ...
Republican Security Council Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) “It is now up to Congress – and hopefully a new President – to repeal this unpopular monstrosity and replace it with free market reforms that will actually improve the quality and restrain the cost of Health Care in America." Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC) "The American people have been misled as to what the individual mandate was, and today the veil has been lifted – it is a tax on... hardworking, blue collar American families." Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ), the GOP Whip, “Because the Supreme Court did not strike down the most onerous provisions, it appears that the American people themselves will have to overturn the law by the choices they make in November’s election.” Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) “I was pleased to see that the Supreme Court struck down the Medicaid expansions that states cannot afford.” Erick Erickson, RedState: "John Roberts concluded the mandate is a tax, but Democrats cannot filibuster Obamacare's repeal. This is because of the reconcili ...
Okay...I'm already breaking my own decision to keep dialogue down about the power-grab just dumped on us by the Supreme Court. I just wanted to point out a couple of things: 1.) Thanks to the Obamacare decision, the gubmint can now come and seize your personal, Private Property if you refuse to buy healthcare insurance (the Campbells have healthcare insurance, BTW...but there ARE folks who don't and actually pay for it in cash, in addition to those who go to the ER w/o insurance). More "spreading the wealth" to those who don't work for it. 2.) John Roberts was the deciding vote. Remember that Justice Roberts was a George W. Bush nominee. Democrats SCREAMED that he was "too conservative" to sit on the SCOTUS. Reckon they STILL think that?
John Roberts appointed by George W. Bush Stephen Breyer appointed by Clinton Ruth Bader Ginsberg appointed by Clinton Elena Kagan appointed by Obama Sonia Sotomayor appointed by Clinton These are the judges that just put the stamp of approval on Obamacare. If the Supreme Court is shredding the Constitution, what's left??
I am totally disgusted that John Roberts was ever appointed to the Supreme Court. We cannot do anyhting about that until he drops dead. But we can get rid of Barak Obama and makes sure he is not re-elected as President!
Waiting for Rep. Allen West to reveal the names of the five Communists on the Supreme Court. Or for John Roberts to finally admit that he was born in Kenya.
God Bless John Roberts, who with today's decision to join a Supreme Court majority upholding President Obama's 2010 Affordable Care Act, now ranks as arguably the greatest Chief Justice in the history of the court, far surpassing the early 19th century jurist John Marshall, Earl Warren, and -- dare we say it? -- even William Rehnquist.
Politico Warns Chief Justice Roberts June 26, 2012 BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: The Politico has a story today warning John Roberts: "You can be lionized and be the biggest hero in this town, or we can make your life miserable. It's up to you." Now, those are my words, but that's the point of the Politico story: You can be the biggest, most prominent, most loved and revered Chief Justice in the history of Chief Justices, or you can be dirt. It's up to you, Judge. He's supposed to swing Obamacare. Exactly right. I've got that story in the Stack here. I'm getting way ahead of myself here. I had this stuff all laid out. "John Roberts's Big Moment -- Chief Justice John Roberts pledged during his Supreme Court hearings to be a mere umpire of the law. But as a legacy-defining decision nears, Roberts is emerging as the court’s most intriguing player. Justices are expected to rule Thursday -- during their final public sitting of the term -- on the fate of President Barack Obama’s signature health law. While much of ...
Mr. Adelman offers $100 million to Chief Justice Robert's friend Mr. Romney? I know rich men like to play one upmanship...so if Mr. Adelman gets real and offers one billion to elect Mr. Romney or...maybe 2 billion...he will win the contest as The Man and will qualify to have lunch with John Roberts in a quiet corner of the Supreme Court lunch room? Also, Justice Thomas and his wife should be invited. I have read that rich men have one thing in common...many of them like to wade in the ethically gray areas of the political swamp.

Scott Walker got lots of help--the Koch brothers, Adelson. But don't forget John Roberts and the Supreme Court. They made it all possible!
Today is June 1. I doubt it will be today, but sometime this month the Supreme Court will announce it's ruling on the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). I know John Roberts is a conservative, but he's also a intelligent man of the law. I just can't see him playing politics and throwing the entire Health Care law out. It's plausible he'll throw the individual mandate out, but not the whole entire law. We'll see .
Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is one of the Republican Party's strongest and most conservative voices. He talks about his new book, It Takes a Family, where he discusses the politics of intelligent design, and what he'd like to hear from Supreme Court nominee John Roberts.
