24th January 2013. THE CHIME SAGA; OUR CASE AND STAND. When on the 7th of January 2013 we wrote to the Acting Governor of Enugu State, Mr Sunday Onyebuchi and copied the Speaker of the State House of assembly, we were inspired by the best of intentions. We sincerely believed that the mystery surrounding the prolonged absence, which was one hundred and twelve days on that day, of our dear Governor H.E. Sullivan Iheanacho Chime should be lifted without further delay. The gist of that letter was that the question, where is Governor Chime should be answered by the Enugu State Government within two weeks. To facilitate this query we proposed that the state government should constitute a delegation of eminent sons and daughters of the state to seek out the Governor and verify his status and report back to the people of Enugu State. We made this proposal in the light of the loss of confidence in the excuses and spin emanating from government information mangers. The government response was to bad mouth us and qu ...

After 135 days of absence from office, Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State finally breaks silence: assures Nigerians and the people of Enugu of his return soon. The Gov gave the assurance while receiving Governors Gabriel Suswam of Benue state, Obong Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom and Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State who paid him a visit in the UK, a visit not unconnected with finding out how the governor is faring after a lot of criticisms and controversies had trailed his continued absence from office... It became obvious after yesterday's encounter with colleagues from the Governors' Forum that Sullivan Iheanacho Chime is indeed in perfect condition and has fully recovered from the supposed illness that took him out of the country since September, 2012... But the question on the lips of many observers including my humble self is When exactly is Mr. Governor coming home? Well, special thanks to the Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo Fø̲̣̣я̅ his leadership dispositions and di ...
EDITORIAL ABSENTEE STATE GOVERNORS Absentee state governors FRIDAY, 18 JANUARY 2013 00:00 EDITOR OPINION - EDITORIAL IT is an all-too-familiar spectacle: the governor is hospitalised and the entire state is on the bed with him; the governor travels abroad and the state is in checked-in luggage. When the carousel malfunctions, the people’s destiny, of course, languishes in airport storage. This would be funny if it were not true. But this, sadly, is the story of Nigerians in the hands of their governors. The continued absence of some state governors, Sullivan Iheanacho Chime of Enugu and his counterpart in Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, especially from their duty posts for months without proper explanation and proper hand-over to their deputies, illustrates the disrespect with which leaders treat their electors and the country’s constitution. It also shows the predilection of the governors to turn their states into their private estates even before the ink dries up on their signatures on the oath of . ...

The 29th of May 2007 and 2011 respectively ushered in a new democratic dispensations in Enugu State. It was on this date, that Barr. Sullivan Iheanacho Chime was sworn into office as the third civilian governor of our dear state, Enugu. He described his vision for Enugu State in his inaugural speech to the citizens of Enugu State at Michael Okpara Square. Thus: I see an Enugu State where government is open, accountable and responsive to the genuine yearning of the people and takes action to improve the lives of the people. I see an Enugu State where health care, quality education, portable water, electricity, transportation and communication will become available to all our people no matter where they are in the state. A state where security of life and property will be reality'' The political ideology of Governor Sullivan Chime and his administration is best described as humane.
