Incredible weekend. What a heartbreaking, nerve shaking, exhilarating finale to the Six Nations! England nearly getting the scoreline they needed to win, Stuart Hogg's moment of madness & Wales subsequent demolition of the 14 men on field, and of course, that finale! And in light of the great man who has now left the international stage, you couldn't have hoped for a better finish! Review – Baskerville Hall Acoustic Wednesday – 19/02/2014 “jamming and juggling” A mild night outside and a warm night inside. Geoff Tookey (guitar, vocal, harmonica); Stuart Hogg (guitar, vocal); Paul Redman & Paul the resident (percussion) and Jamie Thomas (flute, guitar) joined me for an excellent evening of collaborative music making. I brought my baritone guitar to the party and we had a very pleasing jazzy jam of my latest song and both Geoff and Stuart played some nice fresh numbers. Stuart is now on Soundcloud – “John Stuart Hogg” – so please check him out. A lovely evening was rounded-off by an impromptu display of juggling by Jamie (is there no end to this lad’s versatility??) swiftly followed by Stuart (hidden talents??) That’s entertainment!! Big thank-you as always to David for looking after us. It, or something similar, or not, will happen all over again at the same time, same place, next week. All welcome.
Ireland v Scotland: Scotland player ratings February 3, 2014 15. Stuart Hogg: 7.5 Hogg looked extremely dangerous in attack which culminated in a couple of half breaks and some impressive offloads. His positioning for opposition attacks was good and a number of times he used fancy footwork to get out of trouble. 14. Sean Maitland: 7.5 Possibly Scotland’s best player until injury unfortunately forced him off around the half-hour mark. He was hungry for the ball, kept popping up in support across the backline and he looked dangerous whenever he received it. 13. Alex Dunbar: 7 He didn’t offer a huge amount in attack but anyone who manages to keep Brian O’Driscoll quiet all match tends to have a good game. He made an inspiring 12 tackles, the majority of which were quite physical. 12. Duncan Taylor: 6 Just like his centre partner, Taylor didn’t offer a lot of options in attack – which is a shame because he impresses for Saracens – but he was fairly solid in defence. Expect Matt Scott to start agai ...
Ireland v Scotland: Ireland player ratings February 3, 2014 15. Rob Kearney: 8 Marked his 50th Irish cap with well deserved try which encapsulated a powerful display at fullback. Kearney ran hard, direct lines all afternoon and showed great awareness to stop a Scottish kick to touch from finding its target. 14. Andrew Trimble: 7.5 Trimble scored the first of three Irish tries on his first Six Nations start since 2011 which gave the game a completely different complexion on the stroke of half time. He was aggressive and competed well for box kicks, although the magnificent Stuart Hogg skinned him on a couple of occasions. 13. Brian O’Driscoll: 7.5 Now Ireland’s most capped international, O’Driscoll was targeted by the Scottish attack on his 129th appearance but the veteran coped well and topped the tackling stats with 14. He gives away half a yard to most backs nowadays but makes up for that with clever lines, and was unlucky that his offload to Chris Henry didn’t go to hand in the first half. 12. ...
Scotland interim head-coach Scott Johnson have announced his thirty-six man squad for the 2014 Six Nations campaign which includes Borderers such as Stuart Hogg, Ross Ford and Greg Laidlaw. The squad also features two uncapped players.
Rabo Pro12: Sean Lamont returns for Glasgow side Sean Lamont returns to the Glasgow Warriors side for tomorrow’s 1872 Cup second leg against Edinburgh Rugby at Scotstoun Stadium. The winger, who has been out of action since November with an ankle injury, comes in on the left wing. Stuart Hogg starts at full-back, with Sean Maitland occupying the right wing berth. Byron McGuigan and Alex Dunbar form a new centre partnership, while Ruaridh Jackson and Henry Pyrgos come into the side at fly-half and scrum-half respectively. In the forwards Ryan Grant continues at loose-head, with Dougie Hall coming in for Pat MacArthur at hooker and Ed Kalman replacing Jon Welsh at tight-head. After starting last week’s 20-16 victory over Edinburgh at Murrayfield, Tim Swinson and Tom Ryder once again combine in the second row. In the back-row Rob Harley continues on the blind-side, Chris Fusaro comes in at open-side and captains the side, while Josh Strauss replaces Ryan Wilson at number 8. Glasgow Warriors head coach Gr ...
2013 in review: Scotland December 18, 2013 All in all, this has been one of Scotland’s better years in recent memory – if you exclude the percentage of wins, that is. Scott Johnson has come in and tightened everything up and player performances have been, mainly, quite good. It helps that Glasgow have been playing well in the RaboDirect PRO12, and now one of Scotland’s main aims should be to increase the amount of talented young players that are starting to come through. Biggest success Coming third in the Six Nations and winning two out of the five games – Scotland’s best placed finish since 2006. It wasn’t the prettiest of campaigns but wins against Italy and Ireland and clinical finishing from the back three of Stuart Hogg, Sean Maitland and Tim Visser kept Scotland ahead of Italy on points difference. Scott Johnson’s term as interim head coach can be deemed somewhat of a success considering the injuries suffered over the year and the opposition played, and the capture of a world-class co ...
Review – Baskerville Hall Acoustic Wednesday – 11/12/13 What a lovely evening. Jamie Thomas, Brecon (flute & guitar (this time!!)) and myself, Cefn Gorwydd (miscellaneous) were joined by globe-trotting Les Covenay, Cilmery (guitar, vocal), - Stuart Hogg, Brecon (guitar, vocal), Alison Harrington, Hereford (bodhran, cajon, spoons), Angela Mango Williams, Hereford (djemba, I think) and Paul Redman, Hundred House (wild bongos). We started early, as there were some guests who had come specifically to hear the music, and played, as usual a range of songs from the quiet and melodic to the rhythmic and raucous. There was a mix of original material and covers from folk to skiffle, bluegrass to rock ‘n’ roll. Everyone entered into the collaborative spirit and we had some interesting instrumental combinations. A big “Thank-you” to all who made the effort to come out and play and to the audience who really entered into the spirit of things. Thanks too, of course, to David and Cally at the Hall for looki ...
EDINBURGH: Scotland's wily Australian coach Scott Johnson has dismissed the Wallabies backline woes by labelling Christian Leali'ifano a better No.12 than Matt Giteau. Leali'ifano has been languishing on the bench for Australia's end-of-season European tour, but will be thrust into the weekend's Test against the Scots due to the loss of their entire three-quarter line. In-form inside centre Matt Toomua was the latest Wallabies back to be ruled out of the Murrayfield clash when he was sent home late on Wednesday with a hamstring strain. Midfield partner Tevita Kuridrani is also out due to a five-week ban for his dangerous tip tackle in the 32-15 win over Ireland, while incumbent wingers Nick Cummins and Adam Ashley-Cooper have been stood down for late night drinking in Dublin last week. To all intents and purposes, the Wallabies' backline is in disarray. But not according to Johnson, who is missing three of his best backs - Stuart Hogg, Tim Visser and Matt Scott due to injury - and has delayed naming his b ...
This is what happens when we don't have Stuart Hogg, Max Evans and Kelly Brown
Heineken Cup 2013-2014: Pool 2 Preview October 8, 2013 Glasgow Warriors This Warriors team is enjoying a rich vein of form at present, sitting atop the Pro12 table after five wins from five games. The balance within the squad is near-perfect, with not only the fine blend of impressive imports and Scotland stars, but also the mixture of experienced pros and hungry youngsters keen to make their mark. Glasgow are excellent defenders, having conceded just two tries in their opening league fixtures, and with a backline boasting the likes of Sean Maitland, Stuart Hogg, Niko Matawalu and DTH Van der Merwe, they are capable of doing some real damage in attack. Though Glasgow are laying down a serious marker for title contention thus far, the squad remains unproven at European level. They are in an undoubtedly strong position heading into the opening round of games, but could come unstuck in such a high-profile arena. Duncan Weir’s return has eased the goal-kicking concerns somewhat, but the Warriors can ill-aff ...

Which of the following players was most under - used by the Lions for you? Matt Stevens, Rory Best, Richie Gray, Conor Murray, Owen Farrell, Manu Tuilagi, Ryan Grant, Sean Maitland or Stuart Hogg ? Notice how all the Scots are on that list..
So nice to actually watch a Lions game on the tele, so much better view of the game and how we technically play. Good effort against the Rhebels, lot of intensity and clear assistant coach Rowntree had a word with the boys about last Tuesday's Brumbies inept, boring performance. Good to see us playing for touch rather than kick, a much more entertaining game - however granted weaker opposition. Stand outs for me were Falatau, My pal Gray, Farrell and Zebo. Other good shouts for 2nd test squad inclusion are O'Brian (shidder permitting), Honourary scot Maitland and the scrum half Murray. Twiglets was anonymous - if he gets anywhere near the 23 squad I'll be havin kittens. Stuart Hogg's 21st lately - however he'll be back later in 4 years time. No where near the squad but he's a talent. Feel sorry for the fact he is asked to play 10 all of a sudden, but can't harm him in the long run. Esp got the scots. Onto Saturday and its a major loss with big O'Connell's arm fracture. He is a stalwart and I'm sure Milne ...
5 Reasons the Lions will win the series Posted on Jun 21, 2013 Leigh Halfpenny’s right boot If Folau can win a game for Australia, Leigh Halfpenny can do so for the Lions, albeit in an entirely different manner. The Welshman’s metronomic boot shows no sign of tiring, having been off target just once so far this tour. It is an astonishing record, and in a series that is likely to be decided by the smallest of margins, having the most reliable goal-kicker in world rugby on your side is a huge advantage. To say he is just in the team for his kicking would be to do him a disservice, however, as there is no doubt that when given the chance he is a potent attacker. Sean Maitland’s presence on the bench in favour of Rob Kearney or Stuart Hogg points to – barring a calamitous injury – Halfpenny playing all 240 minutes of test rugby. The pack There’s no getting around it – and as much as backs would like to think they influence a game just as much – the majority of games are won and lost up front. ...
Leigh Halfpenny misses a kick.he just needed to get the 1st one out of his system. Stuart Hogg misses a kick.getting slagged left, right and centre!
Brumbies v British and Irish Lions: Preview and prediction Posted on Jun 17, 2013 The final tour game prior to the beginning of the test series sees the Lions travel to Canberra to take on the Brumbies, and given the strengths of the two squads selected, it could well be their biggest challenge to date. British and Irish Lions It’s been a busy week for Warren Gatland’s side who, thanks to a number of injuries, have had to call up the likes of Christian Wade, Billy Twelvetrees and Brad Barritt as cover, whilst Welsh legend Shane Williams has been drafted in with the sole purpose of taking on the Brumbies, and allowing other Lions the chance to rest up ahead of the first test. All four of these players start against the Brumbies, whilst full-back Rob Kearney makes his first start on tour, and Stuart Hogg and Ben Youngs get their last opportunities to try and force their way into Gatland’s test squad. They face the talented duo of Jesse Mogg and Henry Speight in the Brumbies back line, and if they can ...

British & Irish Lions Match Analysis by ESPNscrum's Graham Jenkins Man of the Match: Stuart Hogg was handed the fly-half role for the first time since a club outing for Hawick a few seasons ago and passed the test with flying colours. He may not have been up against the highest quality opposition but his game-management was excellent with the help of some of the experienced heads around him. His ability with the boot was there to be seen - including four conversions - while his pace and vision also carried him to a notable try. Key Moment: This game was always going to be one-sided and while Combined Country will not have held out much hope for a win, they would have set their sights on a try. Midway through the first half, with the hosts trailing just 19-0, it looked like they may get some reward with a sustained spell of pressure inside the Lions' 22. But a turnover gifted possession to the Lions and fullback Sean Maitland and winger George North sped up field for a classic counter-attack score that wil ...

Reds v Lions: Lions player ratings Posted on Jun 10, 2013 15. Stuart Hogg: 6 Looked solid in defence, including one try-saving tackle on Tapuai, but has yet to dazzle the way he did in a Scotland shirt in the Six Nations. Plenty more to come, you sense, but time is running out. 14. Alex Cuthbert: 6.5 Made 94 metres from nine carries, which is an impressive return, but would have been very disappointed not to have finished after Bowe’s superb break in the first half. Was also caught out rushing up in defence for Morahan’s try. 13. Manu Tuilagi: 5.5 Didn’t have sufficient time to influence proceedings before being forced off with a ‘stinger’ to the shoulder. 12. Jonathan Davies: 6.5 Looked comfortable at 12, where he made his tackles and distributed well. Didn’t do anything to really press his claims ahead of the other three contenders, however. 11. Tommy Bowe: 8 Bowe was simply sublime before suffering the cruelest of fates and being forced off not just the field but the tour itself with a brok ...
.for the second time in six days when they take on a Combined Country selection on Tuesday in Newcastle. The former Ireland skipper is joined by three more Irishmen, including his successor as Irish captain, Jamie Heaslip, Sean O’Brien and Conor Murray. Rory Best will hope to get a chance to prove his worth off the bench. O’Driscoll will, for the first time since 2009, renew his centre partnership with Jamie Roberts in a squad with no recognised experienced out-half. Stuart Hogg starts at number 10 after being designated third choice for that role behind Owen Farrell and Jonathan Sexton. The two leading out-halves have been involved in all three tour matches to date and, during yesterday’s 12-22 win over the Reds, Sexton complained of a tight hamstring. Hogg will be one of four starters who also played a large part in Brisbane. Alex Cuthbert is given another chance on the wing, opposite George North who played over an hour against Queensland following a stinger injury to Manu Tuilagi’s shoulder. L ...

Warren Gatland has selected 11 Welshmen in his squad to face the BarbariansWales will dominate the opening match of the 2013 British & Irish Lions with nine players selected to start against the Barbarians in Hong Kong. Centre pair Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies continue their winning Test partnership in midfield alongside Six Nations try hero Alex Cuthbert. Three Ospreys forwards will start at Hong Kong Stadium including front-row pair Adam Jones and Richard Hibbard as well as flanker Justin Tipuric who gets the nod after tour captain Sam Warburton was ruled out with a knee injury. Dravid: 'I thought it was a clinical performance. Shane Watson picked up an injury and Stuart Binny fell on the field. We were under a bit of pressure then. I think Rahane's playing brilliantly. He's making all the right noises with the bat. He's taking the non-selction for the Champions trophy really well. I enjoy batting with him. I took Brad Hogg in the last game because I did not want to be the oldest player playing the tournament (laughs). Tambe came in because we needed a leg spinner. He came in and did nothing wrong.'

Seymour Once Again Gets Scotland Invite It looks as if Tommy Seymour will finally earn his first international cap this summer after being included in the Scotland side that will tour South Africa this summer. The Glasgow winger qualifies for Scotland, Ireland, and the United States. He had been called into the Scotland assembly last November but the plethora of options on the wing for Scotland meant that he never saw time with the team. Further, an injury prevented him for appearing for Scotland ‘A,’ which would also have cap tied him. With upcoming matches against Samoa, South Africa, and possibly Italy, and with Stuart Hogg and Sean Maitland out with the British & Irish Lions, it appears that Seymour will finally see time...
Stuart Hogg must be pretty proud considering he has been picked for the Lions when he is only 20!
he also mentioned no X factor. I can't wait to see Stuart Hogg side step, once, twice, 3 times, 80 yards later!

Stuart Hogg maybe but Zebo, Madigan or Wade would have brought it in spades.
I can see Stuart Hogg and Tuilagi potentially being an X-Factor. True X-Factor would be Wade or Steffan Armitage.
...I'd think that players like George North, Stuart Hogg etc have more X Factor qualities than the shows previous

Stuart Hogg and Sean Maitland came off the bench to inspire the visitors.
Stuart Hogg is only 20.. Now I feel like a complete failure.
I would have taken laidlaw a 9 who can cover 10 then Stuart Hogg wouldn't be the dedicated cover for 10
Have you seen much of Scotland's Stuart Hogg David? Your type of player I'd imagine, very exciting runner from full-back.

- Great kick by Stuart Hogg to put the Warriors up by 10. But as it stands it'll be a 2012 playoff semi-final repeat, at the RDS.
We win a penalty and Stuart Hogg is going to kick!
Congratulations! to Stuart Hogg all the best with the lions and we hope you enjoyed your dinner here at the Woll
Stuart Hogg is more freckly than me...
THE sight of Stuart Hogg leaping around and “screaming like a girl” on the Scotstoun pitches in Glasgow yesterday provided some idea of what it means to be selected for the British and Irish Lions.

I've made it my mission to meet either Richie Gray, Stuart Hogg, David Denton, Leigh Halfpenny, Kelly Brown or Greg Laidlaw. It will happen.
Rob Kearney hasn't been consistent this season. Stuart Hogg is similar to Robbie as they're both still very young. I don't rate Alex Goode
Fair play to Stuart Hogg. That must have been like tackling both Hairy Bikers at once.
Six Nations Scotland v Wales: Scotland player ratings Posted on Mar 11, 2013 15. Stuart Hogg – 6 A quieter weekend for Hogg, who did little more than defend well. Positionally was always in the right place at the right time but was unable to mount any real sort of attack. Short of the high standards he has set thus far in the championship. 14. Sean Maitland – 5.5 Looked dangerous when the ball came to him but, like the rest of the back three, was barely used. Lots of up-and-unders meant that the wingers and fullbacks were under high ball pressure more often that not. Maitland is a positive runner but Scotland needed to find him more. 13. Sean Lamont – 5 The big man was silent throughout. He did little of any merit in attack, but at least his defense was solid. He kept Wales pinned back but his usually strong running was lacking. 12. Matt Scott – 5 Like the rest of the backs his defense was strong, always working hard to slow the Welsh attack. He was, however, found isolated on a number of occasion ...
Early indications suggest Richie Gray out for the season. Pretty much rules him out of Lions if the case. Would he have made it anyway? Which other Scots have a chance? I would say Kelly Brown the strongest candidate with Stuart Hogg another possible...
If I was living in Scotland I WOULD marry Stuart Hogg but I'm in wake and I would marry Leigh Halfpenny loves him
I'm so glad that Stuart Hogg is playing hoping Leigh is playing and Scotland then are going down ! We are going to beat them
Jonathan Davies says Scotland's Stuart Hogg should be the 2013 Lions' full-back rather than Wales' Leigh Halfpenny.
Six Nations 2013 Scotland vs Ireland: Scotland Player Ratings Posted on Feb 25, 2013 15. Stuart Hogg – 7 An excellent defensive display from a player who is increasingly looking like an elite full-back. Stopped anything that came near him with strong tackling while also trying his hardest to get Scotland counter attacking. 14. Sean Maitland – 7 Not able to show much of his attacking threat over the course of the match but did well to stop Ireland from making any major gains. Did excellently to to prevent O’Driscoll cutting through Scotland’s defense. 13. Sean Lamont – 6 Another player who poses a real threat going forward but was mainly used as a defensive blocker, stopping O’Driscoll et al before they could get motoring. Scotland need him to find more gaps and utilise his size and power. 12. Matt Scott – 7 Defended brilliantly, slowing Ireland down and preventing any sort of Irish momentum to gain any speed. Withstood early pressure to hold firm and stop any Irish threats. Scott looked pois ...
Jonathan Davies has said he'd pick Stuart Hogg's attacking abilities over Halfpenny at Lions full-back Clearly very close?
Save up to 70% on Inkjet and Toner Supplies!
Stuart Hogg should be full-back - and not Leigh Halfpenny - according to Jonathan Davies. Glasgow man in outstanding form.
Anybody that has Rob Kearney/Stuart Hogg ahead of in the Lions 15 Jersey is out of their mind
"Don't get involved when the forwards are doing that". Great advice from Wayne Barnes to Stuart Hogg, the wee man.
Six Nations 2013 Team of the Week: Round 2 Posted on Feb 12, 2013 15: Stuart Hogg (Scotland) We saw glimpses last year of this man’s potential – he is showing us now just how good he could be. The awareness to intercept a try-scoring pass was impressive in itself, but the dazzling 80 metre dash that followed? Breathtaking. 14: Tim Visser (Scotland) The flying Dutchman was anonymous last week, but was back to his best against Italy. A smartly taken try in the first half capped a performance that saw Visser come looking for the ball a lot more than he had previously. 13: Mathieu Bastareaud (France) Probably the only player to come out of France’s weekend with any credit (groundsmen included), Bastareaud completely justified his selction – which is more than can be said for the listless Mermoz inside him. He was a one man-wrecking ball in the midfield, getting France front-foot ball which they managed to squander time and again. 12: Matt Scott (Scotland) Strong, solid and direct, Scott did everything ...
3 players who impressed me on the weekend,Stuart Hogg,Andrew Coombs & Ben Youngs.
The 50,247 fans who were at Murrayfield yesterday for Scotland’s 34-10 victory over Italy in the second round of the RBS 6 Nations Championship, were treated to a wonderfully entertaining match that, together with England's win in Dublin this afternoon, puts Scotland in second place in the championship. It was Scotland's first win on home soil since August 2011 and the first time they had scored four tries in an RBS 6 Nations game since their 33-25 victory over Italy at Murrayfield in 2003. Winger Tim Visser, centres Matt Scott and Sean Lamont and full-back Stuart Hogg got the touchdowns.
Scotland 34-10 Italy. Great work today with tries being scored from Visser, Scott, Lamont and of course the fabulous interception from Stuart Hogg.
Hooker Ross Ford has warned the rest of the Scotland pack SkyBet to expect another test of their physicality and commitment when they take on Italy this weekend. Ford comes into the starting XV, replacing the injured Dougie Hall, for the Murrayfield showdown against an Azzurri side sure to be on a high after their remarkable victory over France. "We won't get it any easier this weekend," warned the 28-year-old. "Italy have a brilliant pack so we need to make sure we front up in the areas England exposed against us. "We've been working in training this week, trying to make sure that doesn't happen again. "We need to put in a performance in those areas that allows us to play the way we want to play, on the front foot." The Scots might have struggled at the breakdown against England but it wasn't all doom and gloom, full-back Stuart Hogg had a fantastic game as did wingers Tim Visser and Sean Maitland on debut.
I mean I personally would have gone for Chris Robshaw, Owen Farrell, Stuart Hogg and Simon Zebo
England v Scotland 6 Nations 2013: Scotland player ratings Posted on Feb 4, 2013 15. Stuart Hogg – 8.5 Scotland’s most impressive performer. He broke the gain-line repeatedly and offered some excellent counter attacking play. Impressive relief kicking and a resilient defender who fought to the last breath. 14. Sean Maitland – 6 Making his debut for Scotland and did not disappoint. Grabbed himself a well-taken try and looked threatening throughout. England tried their best to contain the young winger but his energy, drive and determination were superior to the majority on the pitch. 13. Sean Lamont – 5 In a game which called-out for game changers, Lamont was nowhere to be found. Did his job running the lines and defending but showed little else to spark a Scotland team who needed a leader to take the game to the English. Not one of his best games but not one of the worst – Scotland will need more from the big playmaker. 12. Matt Scott – 6 Performed well, strong in the tackle and ran hard at the ...
Scotland Scotland waiting on Strokosch injury 3 February 2013, 1:18 pmBy Sportsbeat Scotland could be dealt a major blow after it was revealed that Alasdair Strokosch has surfaced a fractured orbit around his eye in the RBS 6 Nations loss to England at Twickenham. The Perpignan flanker lasted just 14 minutes of the clash against Stuart Lancaster’s side before being forced off with the facial injury, to be replaced by David Denton. He then had to sit on the sidelines as Scott Johnson’s men eventually succumbed to a powerful English performance, with tries for debutant Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg providing some consolation in a 38-18 defeat. New Zealand-born winger Maitland had given the Scots the perfect start with his try after just nine minutes as he benefited from a sensational counter-attack by Glasgow teammate Hogg. When Strokosch was forced off, the Scots only trailed 6-5, and they were still in touch at the break despite Chris Ashton’s try giving England an 19-11 lead. However England made t ...
Oh well, I was right to be nervous!! Plenty positives though, including Stuart Hogg, Johnnie Beattie and Dougie Hall!!
Stuart Hogg's dancing feet and Tim Visser's pace show Scotland have a threat if given some space
Wow, Stuart Hogg for Scotland has got a bit of pace...
Stuart Hogg's passed up the Warriors best chance of a try and it wasn't all Wight on the night for Scott as he missed a penalty. Still 10-6.
Mixed night for the Scots in the RaboDirect PRO12. Glasgow take full advantage of an early Treviso red card to secure a bonus point 41-7 win at Scotstoun. Stuart Hogg (2), DTV van der Merwe, Tommy Seymour and Niko Matawalu were all on the scoresheet. Edinburgh, though, were beaten again, 31-16 by Leinster at Murrayfield.
